have a problem, An image of an Android with a red triangle appear when I instal the update via OTA. I tried OTA with a stock kernel and it didn't help.
any ideas?
Somehow you replaced your custom recovery with a stock recovery.
Install twrp and you can update

A couple of days ago I was able to unlock the bootloader on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus (GSM Version) and install a custom ROM of Jelly Bean 4.1. Last night I decided to flash an OTA version of 4.1, and being rather new to this, I didn't know that I would loose root to my phone. I have tried several ways to try and reobtain root with no success... When I boot up into recovery mode I get the android lying down with the red explanation mark.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The OTA package probably changed the recovery back to stock as well... You'll have to flash custom recovery again and then restore your nandroid or flash the rooted ROM again.

I try to flash the ClockwordMod Recovery and it says "You must have the ClockworkMod recovery installed before continuing. Install the recovery through ROM manager first"
I did this before I installed the new ROM on my phone but there are no recoveries listed...

You cannot flash CWM with ROM Manager if you do not have root...
You need to plug your device into a computer and use fastboot.exe to flash CWM. I suggest you read up a bit on how to use fastboot. Have you read this sticky?
Thank you! Between the source you provided and a few others I was able to finally get into recovery and reflash to Bigxie ROM! I will be staying far away from OTA versions until I have made myself a more advanced user
Hello, I recently flashed TWRP onto my V with the toolkit in the sticky thread, however I can no longer install system updates, it just boots into TWRP. Can anybody advise me on what to do next?
Kind Regards.

system updated only work woth stock recovery. i think you can flash the stock recovery, take the update, then go back with twrp
Thanks for your help, but I decided to flash over a custom ROM anyway, which is already updated to 4.0.4 and sense 4.1
You realize there are much better versions of Android beyond 4.0.4 available for the one V don't you? Cm 10.1 is currently at 4.2.2 and the latest fully working PACman rom (v19.3) is at 4.1.2, just to name a couple.
Sent from my HTC One V running PACman v19.3

do not double post.
you are currently ON the latest stock firmware for your device. are you wanting to install a custom ROM to get a newer (4.2.2) release?
you can use Rom Manager to update your recovery. once thats done, if you havent done so yet, boot into recovery and make a nandroid (backup). you may need it down the road.
yes!
Yes I want to know how i can update my 4.1.1 once the newer Jelly Bean 4.2.2 update is available.
i have made a nandroid back and i also made a titantiam backup..
is there a newer version of CWM for my phone??rom manager says no.

The 4.2.2 custom roms are located in the Original Android Development section. There is no 4.2.2 update from samsung. Look them over and read up on the flashing process. The link in my signature has some good information.
My Nexus 7 wifi has the 4.4.3 update that has been prompting me to update. I tried doing the update which fails.
I do have TWRP installed, MultiROM, and a customer kernel. I tried flashing a custom kernel which did not resolve the issue.
I currently swap between stock and CM depending on what I would like to play with.

I'd do a nandroid before doing anything.
It might help if you state what the exact contents of the error is, my guess is that you have changed something in /system (unexpected contents error), and flashing a custom kernel won't fix it, in fact you would want to flash a stock 4.4.2 system.img and stock 4.4.2 boot.img if you want to use the OTA method, else you can just skip using the OTA and try and flash a 4.4.3 system.img and 4.4.3 boot.img, either way make sure you clear dalvik and cache before booting up after the system flashes.
You cannot install official updates if your device is modified!
Since you mentioned that you are familiar with CM, why don't you update to the latest CM ROM?

I play with it every once in awhile but I don't know why I enjoy stock but I do. Maybe I will go back to CM.
i like to update to the recent lollipop version but how can I do that (if possible) , not doing it over the Air and not using a connection with usb-cable ( is not working anymore with my nexus 7) to laptop or pc?
Is your Nexus 7 rooted? Do you have a custom recovery?
Yes is rooted
Yes is rooted, don't have custom ron
Since you're rooted, you could install the Flashify app (free) and flash TWRP. **Edit: you also need an unlocked boot loader.** Then make a backup of your current system. If you already have the new bootloader, you could flash Scrosler's rooted stock 5.0.2 ROM (of course here in XDA.) If you don't have the new bootloader, there are flashable zips here in XDA. Note: make sure it's flashable via custom recovery. GROGG88 has posts with the new b/l zip flashable in TWRP.
error while updating to lollipop (OTA) 5.0.2
now i get OTA lollipop update on my nexus 7 and it downloads (is only 389.2 MB), i think i read somewhere it should be around 500 MB).
It restarts and starts installing the update and then i get and error with the little green android guy and an open hatch at his body with an red exclaimation mark on it. I have done a factory reset as well get the update again but also the error again., It is not updating and reboots after a while and goes back to kitkat 4.4.4. Something is definitely wrong here, can you help me out what do I do who do i have to report this... i never got the lollipop update 5.0 or 5.0.1 either.
