Is the over-sharpening strictly an LG stock ROM issue? Would it be eliminated with another ROM, such as an AOSP ROM?
I don't think so, the screen has so many pixels our eyes can't tell them apart.
To my knowledge the sharpening is coded into the kernel/gpu drivers as it works even when people boot into recovery console. The only way to get rid of it is a custom kernel.
Take a look at this

I haven't noticed any major over-sharpening since switching to an AOSP rom

I was considering picking up an LG G3 a while ago, but was initially turned off by the many reports of artificial "over-sharpening". Before I disregard an otherwise-good phone on a bygone problem, my question to the community is simple: is the "oversharpening" problem still an issue on modern ROMs for the G3? How about on non-LG ROMs (such as CyanogenMod)?
I'm on fulmics rom (stock-based) and you can set how much % sharpening you want via aroma before you flash.
Non-LG roms are completely clear of the over-sharpening issue.
Yes, it's still there but after one year of using stock rom I don't notice it anymore.
clean rom!

Wow, that ROM looks incredible! +1 for it being stock-based too. You might've just changed my mind on the G3; thanks for sharing.
Hey everyone!
I solved my camera problems with this crappy phone, so I thought of sharing my experience to save you a little time.
Since day one, back camera didn't focus, made strange noises and didn't took clear pics, specially when used on landscape mode.
You have to change the camera module. Now works great:good:
Things I did before replacing camera:
- Back to stock ROM, some post were saying they had focus issues on custom ROMs. This didn't helped me.
- reset camera, cache, won't work either.
- check gyroscope, not the problem..
So...if this things happened to you waste no more time and find yourself a replacement.
I get it from a phone that was being sold in parts because of board malfunctioning.
Pd. I also had the infinite auto bootloop problem since day one, bit I manage to solve that turning off the big cores following the tutorial, as you know this is the most common of errors in this phone.
You just have to flash a custom kernel.
MarshMallow 6.0 camera focus wont work until you flash a Llama Sweet kernel
Nougat 7.0/7.1 camera focus wont work until you flash Titan Kernel
And about Android 8 and 9. There no need for Custom Kernel, Camera works with stock kernel
Got me a Z5p E6853 over a year ago.
Stock rom is ok, a bit laggy but runs well enough. over time it gets stale and I looked around for Custom roms.
Tried a few, mainly the AOSP roms on this Forum and the Z5 fourm. found some bug or another that didn't sit well with me. custom stock roms causes a display failure on my device for some reason at random times, sometimes more than once a day, others will run for weeks without a problem. happens at the oddest times too so no way to pin down the cause. (plus all the devs from those roms have moved on so little point in requesting help for them)
So my main question is. other than going back to full stock. (with the possibility of xposed in the future) - What are the current best roms for function and Camera.
Stock roms take advantange of the DRM keys saved on your device. AOSP roms don't from what I can understand. is there a Lineage or AOSP type rom that has a better camera than stock?
what have the users here experienced to be their best combination of rom, with long term stability / Camera quality being top priority.
I don't normally ask Questions here, I usually lurk and help people with problems with flashing and such. but my current experiece with the Z5p has been a bit poor. and I would like to use this phone to its full potential. I just don't see that yet with whats currently available. I may have missed an old rom, or some patch fix that someone mentioned somewhere, but i've been reading the threads for the past few months looking for something that stands out.
I feel like I've bought into a dud of a phone. and my only real option is to just go back to normal stock and pass the phone onto a relative and buy a better phone.
Hey there. I used to have an HTC One M9 (I now have the Z5 Premium (E6853))and the best decision I've ever made with that phone is to keep the stock rom, but root it (preferably with magisk). For me this had the best stability with all the perks of rooting it as you could still flash kernels, and use the millions of root apps that boost your phone and clean out bloatware. Maybe just do some exploring into apps that'll completely change the behaviour of your phone, rather than the OS. What I have found in my rom flashing addict days is that the ROMs themselves really only change a couple of things and device performance is never one of them. If you're looking for massive customisation options a custom rom can help, but you should also check out Substratum. I hope it all goes well!
P.S. - I find Lineage OS is probably the most stable custom rom out there but who knows every custom rom can be a real hit and/or miss.

Hi everyone,
I bought my S9 primarily for its camera specs. I tried out Ressurection Remix and Lineage roms, but they didn't let me shoot 4k 60fps it seems (I want to install the "zerocam mod"). So my question: Which Rom has a stock like camera capability? Or which Stock like rom is the best to be had in terms of battery life?
I am currently on rooted stock rom, because of the camera problems with those others custom roms. But being stock samsungs security hits me with the "black screen of death", which locks my phone everytime I go to sleep mode. So, I need to change to a custom rom I guess. That's why I started this thread.
Only Touchwiz based (ie: Stock based)
Just a question. Why do you have a "black screen of death"? Never heard about it.

On a german forum it was mentioned that Samsung built in some mechanic to prevent damage or something from the device.
So when going to sleep the display keeps being shut off. I don't know the details, but I installed the NoSOD app and it kind of works now mysteriously. It never goes to sleep or something now and the problem seems to be solved by it running all the time. Maybe I try another rom stock with touchwiz indeed.
Hello everyone, I'll be getting my Poco F3 tomorrow and I have a few questions. Most of them were asked already but they're relatively old already and I'm unsure whether it got fixed or not. Anyways, here are my questions.
1) Was the proximity sensor issue patched/fixed? Is it any better than the release? I've seen quite a few commentaries regarding it's poor quality.
If it didn't get fixed, what are some workarounds?
2) In Samsung phones (at least a few years back) your camera quality used to be ABSOLUTELY TRASH if you used an AOSP ROM. Does the same happen with this phone? If so, GCam is the only workaround?
3) Is the real world performance (gaming, scrolling, app loading times) lower in AOSP ROMs?
Please reply to this one only if you have measured the performance on both ROMs yourself instead of repeating what somebody else said (we don't know the variables they had during testing).
4) Is it possible to flash an official recovery ROM with a locked bootloader? If so, would this tool be the safest way to do?

5) Is it possible to downgrade a update through flashing a recovery ROM? (e.g. 12.5.7 to 12.5.6).
6) Is the screen dimming when gaming still an issue? If not, are there any workarounds?
7) Are there any other issues that I didn't mention or things you'd like to say?
Notes:
- When I say "AOSP ROMs" I'm mainly thinking about Lineage and MicroG for Lineage.
- Feel free to only reply to one or two of them, I'll be happy as long as the information is legitimate.
1. ROMs based on the ROM that was banned from here due to its name trees generally don't have much issue with it, as long as the hardware goes - it is as inaccurate on MIUI. With some lower quality ROMs it may be better or worse, as with anything else
There was one workaround with disabling the proximity sensor and turning off the screen when in-call, but that's rather a half measure.
2. There is MIUI camera port for Alioth somewhere, but as now most ROMs are based on A12 the compatibility may vary.
Gcam by BSG works well even with default settings and it supports all the hardware, so there's that. Needless to say, it doesn't support upscaling present in MIUI cam (so the front camera will take ~5 Mpix photos, compared to the fake 20 Mpix in MIUI).
3. I've used MIUI and some AOSP/Pixel ROM for some time and although benchmarking apps indeed show a little lower scores on AOSP (at least the few I've tried), AOSP ROMs generally feel more snappy - the difference may stem from the UX itself tho (i.e. janky MIUI gestures vs AOSP gestures).
4. I'd say it's always safer to go with official fasboot ROMs. Alioth is a bit messy when it comes to recovery in general; some ROMs work only with their own recovery images, some are recommended to use with the AOSP recovery, and both official and unofficial TWRPs aren't stable enough (or really worth it, IMO).
5. No idea; I believe Alioth has ARP, so you may need a workaround for it.
6. Never happened to me (MIUI or AOSP), it may be either vendor or screen panel specific.
7. Some people report slow charging speeds, which (as long it doesn't take over two hours) may be considered a feature as constant charging with full power is known to exhaust PMIC chips leading to hardware failures in the long run.
Apart from that, there is the green tint, which may happen in 120 Hz mode on some panels, but it is calibrated in some ROMs. It does occur on MIUI too.
EDIT: Also idle drain, but that's again ROM specific. Iirc LineageOS is generally stable when it comes to that.
Thank you very much for your reply, I have the device for a day and I have no issues with it.
My only qualm is the display panel on low brightness which looks rather bad (colors seem to shift only on certain areas, probably because it's not dimming it evenly) but that's fair considering the price point of the phone.
Also, the camera isn't even as bad as I thought, a happy surprise.
