Just got an M8 and noticed the HTC music channel on it--basically allows you to run the visualizations along with lyrics to any song you are listening to--be it through music player or Pandora, for example.
Daughter has my old M7 and I was wondering if it had the same option, sadly it didn't. But google is a good friend and here you go:
Step 1:
-Open ES File Explorer and make sure ES File Explorer has the right permissions. So from the sidebar, tap Root Explorer -> Mount R/W and make sure /system has RW permission.
-Open up default.xml from /system/customize/acc/.
Step 2:
Open the file (default.xml) with ES Note Editor, then scroll all the way to the end of the file to find the line that starts with support_music_channel. Change the value to true, save the changes, then reboot your device
name="support_music_channel">false
<---------------change to >true<, save file, then reboot.
After the reboot, open your Settings app and toggle on Music Channel. Now whenever you play a song through any music app, Music Channel will be activated and will display a visualizer along with the lyrics to your song, as long as GraceNote has it in its library.
Works but for some reason the on screen buttons don't respond
good to see that you fixed the button issue
option not showing up in settings.

Are you sure you typed it up right and, more importantly, saved the file?
Whatever you save must be exactly like this:
name="support_music_channel">true

Yeah I think so. .btw I also changed BoomSound to true and beats audio to false now to just check if there are any changes but there don't seem to be any. .but the default.xml is getting saved yet nothing happens after a reboot. .anyways I've attached a screenshot below of my saved file. .maybe u can make out something from that. .thanks again!

That's weird. .this is only what i could think of. .some songs might not get recognized by the gracenote database. .you could try playing the same song in the stock htc music player and see if you are getting the lyrics for that inside the stock music player itself. .also is there any option to update lyrics like there is in the stock player?it doesnt work with both wifi and mobile data? Also how did you guys get it to work. .the only thing to be changed is the support music channel parameter from false to true right. .maybe you could just check my screenshot in the previous post to see if everything looks alright. .Thanks!
Thanks for sharing!
I wonder what all the other flags are doing.. I guess there's no such thing as a description or any documentation of them is there?

I never had an issue with lyrics on my HTC M7 Music player. I am still on 4.4.2 as my daily use ROM but I imagine that it should be the same for the latest version as well...

Is there any way to separate podcast mp3s from Google music? My podcasts are infiltrating my artist list and recently played view.
I don't think so without changing the genre to podcast or something, though it won't get rid of it from the recently played list
Google does have it's own podcast app called Listen which is pretty old but works. You can dump also your already downloaded episodes to /sdcard/com.google.android.apps.listen/
Just an alternative
Is there a location I can store my podcasts where music spent search?

Put a .nomedia file in the folder where the podcasts are. You might meet to reboot afterwords.

also, if you use beyondpod there's an option to "share media miles" that's enabled by default. Unchecked it then clear user data for the media storage app and reboot/rebuild your library. Can't remember if there's an option like that on dogcatcher but ever since switching to beyondpod its the best podcast player in my opinion.

I use doggcatcher too, and what I did was create a folder in the sd and named it .nomedia
I then moved all my podcast stuff there.
Make sure you go to doggcatcher settings and change the location of your podcasts to that location.
Next you need to go to app settings and delete all google music app data so it can rebuild it's cache and scan the sd card again.

I've seen some references to that online, but it doesn't seem to exist on my copy of BeyondPod (version 2.9.15). After going into Advanced Settings (which is hidden in a very WTF-esque manner), where it allegedly resides, there simply isn't a share podcasts / media files setting to be found.
Where do you find this beastie?

I know this is a really extreme solution but have you tried Pocket Casts? I used to be a huge fan of beyond pod also until I tried Pocket Casts. Its way more pretty and easy to use.

The thing with .nomedia files on ICS seem to work only after you clear the cache in manage apps-> all-> media storage
I switched to BeyondPod, which doesn't have this issue.

I second pocketcasts in terms of ease of use and appearance.
.nomedia file doesn't work with pocket casts, but creating .nomedia folder and moving podcasts there worked.

1) Is it possible to change the sms signal to something other than the default ones?
2) Can I turn off the shutter sound?
3) Am I supposed to be able to turn the screen into landscape mode when looking at apps/widgets and the homescreens?
4) I have copied two .mkv-movie(4-7gb) files to the movies folder on the phone but when I watch them I get no sound, how come?
I have the standard, none edited, newly bought version of the note 2.
1) Mess with the sound settings. Default notification is what you're after.

2) Maybe
3) Thanks, explains that.
4) Oh...I see...any easy way to do that by my own? Any programs that you or someone else can recommend?

1) create a folder named "notifications" on your internal memory, any audio file in that folder should show up in the list for app/messaging notifications.
if you don't want it to show up in the music app you can also place it in /system/media/audio/notifications, but that requires root access.
for ringtones and alarms you can place it in any folder, and set it through the music player.
2) this is illegal in some countries and can be abused for various criminal activities, so this will require modifications to system files.
3) not in the touchwiz launcher, but if you want to rotate the screen you can install a 3rd party launcher like apex, or nova, and enable rotation in their settings screen.
4) try MX player, if the encoding of a video or audio stream is not supported by your phone it can usually still play using software decoding.

Hey,
I tried this on multiple tracks and it doesn't seem to work. I thought I might fix the issue by modifying the .mp3 files and manually setting the correct album, artist, track number etc., but it still doesn't work. Whenever I try updating the lyrics I get the following notification:
Lyrics from LyricFind
Total 1 lyric(s) checked. 0 lyric(s) updated.
Any thoughts on how I could force it to find the correct lyrics? And it's not like I am trying with an obscure artist, it's Led Zeppelin IV for Christ's sake.
I remember this from my One X days. It's a location issue. You have to trick Gracenote to think that you are in the US through a VPN software and then it will work with no problem.
1) Download and install Hotspot Shield Free from play store
2) Run Hotspot Shield and make sure that Virtual Location is: United States.
3) Play a song and you will see lyrics appearing.
4) Un-install Hotspot Shield
5) Play another song and voila, you always have lyrics

Thanks a lot for the tip, mate, but unfortunately it doesn't work for me. The Wi-Fi at work, which I used to download most of the lyrics the phone did manage to recognize, assigns US-based IP addresses, so I should have had no issues to begin with. I went ahead and tried the fix with Hotspot Shield anyways, but to no avail.
What's even more interesting is that it has downloaded lyrics for individual songs within an album. Why it would recognize one track, but wouldn't the very next one from the same album is beyond me.

Wow, I love you (lol). I don't used Hotspot Shield, I used TunnelBear, but it works like a charm!!
Love this device, but there's two things left on my list of things to update/modify which I'm stuck on.
I rooted the device
went through the Xposed catalog
updated to KitKat
downloaded a bunch of apps like Dropbox, Google Drive, Coursera, emulators, games, synced all my e-mail/social accounts, etc. etc.
bought the Samsung OTG adapter to connect a 1TB external HDD (Game of Thrones Seasons 1 - 3!)
Later I plan on getting a controller and keyboard for games and productivity.
So the basis for this entire post;
The last 2 things I'm trying to get on my tablet is flash and Viper4Android.
My GSIII on PacRom (4.3) has flash enabled using an older version of Dolphin Browser (allows me to watch full episodes of the Colbert Report/Daily Show on Comedy Central). Also, Viper4Android works flawlessly.
I can't seem to find a solution for my Note 2014 tho.
My main questions are does anybody here know how to enable flash and install Viper4Android on the Note 2014?
What I've tried so far;
trying to enable Flash
-downloaded Dolphin/Boat/other flash enabled browsers after dl'ing the recommended files from Adobe's official website
-use the old version of Dolphin the same way my phone has it
trying to install Viper4Android
-install to System/apps then another suggestion to install from System/priv-apps (all permissions set as suggested)
-followed a few guides that talked about editing build.prop (found a solution for the Note 3, however, the lines required for me to edit weren't there on the Note 2014)
Mainly I don't expect my tablet to turn into an amazing sound system, but one of my minor gripes is that it's speakers are somewhat quiet. If V4A doesn't work for us, is there a sound hack to increase how loud we can set the volume (especially for movie watching, even MX Player's 200% sound increase is a little lacking for me)
Thanks! regardless even if there's no known solutions yet.

This kind of works! Thanks! With one caveat however, I played a few songs using PlayerPro (bought the full version and is my preferred player) the stock Samsung Music Player, and Google Music Player; but it doesn't seem to fully function. Driver Status says Processing: No.
So I set the FX Compatibly Mode from Normal --> Compatible and selected Force Enable V4A.
Retested the three players on my tablet, and the Google Music Player has an audible difference. I tested this by putting the reverb to some ridiculous setting, and the Google Player was obviously audibly different, while Player Pro and the stock music app were the same. Can't check Driver Status in Compatibility Mode however, but it was clear GMP works with V4A while the other 2 did not.
So now, the problem changes from getting V4A to work (because it does with Google's music app!) to getting it to work with PlayerPro and universally across apps in general. Curious if there's anyway to do this? Im hoping to find a way to get V4A to work with MXPlayer and PlayerPro as well!
