More than likely the tap-to-pay feature from Google Wallet will be locked like the Note 3. Everything else from the Google Wallet app will work just fine, except for the tap-to-pay feature. You can blame SoftCard (formally ISIS) for this. Well, really it's the 4 major US carriers, who are all in contract with Softcard, blocking this tap-to-pay feature. Why would they allow a competitor into the fold?

Tap to pay has been blocked since the Note 2 unfortunately. They took away access to the secure element, and now the secure element has been moved to the sim, which of course is controlled by the carrier (read softcard)
Someone reported in another thread that Google Wallet works on their AT&T LG G3 - so here is hoping.

This is not true anymore. Any device running kitkat will do tap n pay. They changed Wallet to remove carriers ability to block it. Many will bring up issues with the Note 3, but with the very last update, even it became compatible. The odds of tap n pay working on the Note 4 are about 99.9% in my opinion.

That's great news! I'm not into Nexus's so I just gave up on it after the Note 2 but I'd love to use it again on the 4.. Guess we'll know in a week
I have At&t note 4 and I have tap and pay.
Yep, it's now working on the Note 4! I can even switch back and forth between SoftCard (formally ISIS) and Google Wallet within Android's settings to set the default tap-to-pay service. Yes!

Anyone know if Google Wallet will be able to be ported over to the Galaxy Nexus? I'm going to miss being able to use my phone to pay for things, as I've grown somewhat accustomed to being able to do it. lol I love going to Dairy Queen, or Best Buy, or the drug store and just tapping my phone. I'd love to be able to do it on the Galaxy Nexus.

Should not need to be ported, GNex has NFC
NFC is just a chip. You still need the software to use it. For example, I used Google Wallet on my Nexus S (which has a NFC chip). Without software to use the NFC chip with, it's useless. In other words, you have to have some sort of payment software on the phone in order to make use of the NFC as a form of payment.

For example, only the Sprint Nexus S 4G officially has google wallet. The T-mo Nexus S doesn't. Neither do the SGSII varieties with NFC.
OP, I'd assume that once they have it working for ICS they'll make it happen with an update, but I'm not sure whats holding them from just launching with it.... then again they still haven't given it to the T-mo Nexus S lol so idk what's going on.

While there has been no official announcement, I don't ever think the Verizon version will ever see Google Wallet. Verizon has teamed up with T-Mobile and AT&T to put together Isis, a competitor to Google Wallet. Thats why we only see Google Wallet or Sprint.

Well I have a T-mobile Nexus S that I use Google wallet on. Of course it isn't officially supported, but they ported it over from the Sprint Nexus S. I was just holding out hope that it might be possible to bring it to the Galaxy Nexus. lol of course this is just a hope. I'm not sure what libs or framework is needed for it to work.

I get a little miffed every time I see a google wallet enabled payment system and I can't use it on my TMo nexus s 'officially'.

Yeah you would think that "officially" you'd be able to do it. Heck all Google would have to do is just put the app in the market to be downloaded and they wouldn't have to deal with the carriers at all (I think lol). But hey, gotta love the guys here at XDA, that got us around all that and brought it to the tmobile nexus. I'm just hoping it can be done on the Galaxy Nexus too.
Consider yourselves lucky that you can even use a hacked version on your phones.
What about us poor saps in Australia who can install the app and use it, but can't add any funds to it. I really don't understand why Google choose to operate like this.

Perhaps there are legal issues with it. I have no idea. I just wish a standard would be established already so that we can use it in our day to day. I love using my phone to pay for things! lol

It's a US-only service, yes. It's just an app so nothing is stopping them from supporting it on the GSM/HSPA version.
I thought the Google Wallet app just makes sure the credit card data travels a save way from the NFC sender to NFC receiver. I don't see how it'd be US-centric, when there's no mobile data involved in the transaction, since Google said that it doesn't require a data connection.
Also, I've read people in Germany using their German T-Mobile Nexus S to pay at the very few Paypass terminals in that country.

I meant it as in "the service is currently available in the US only". As far as I know Google has only officially launched the service in the US as of yet. That could just have been a marketing thing though. I'm not sure if it works fine if a seller outside the US just plugs in a comatible NFC-enabled terminal.

But apparently there's a RFID version of Paypass, and a superset that does NFC. The current distributed cards are RFID. But there appear to be NFC capable terminals in at least Germany.

Interesting. So it's nothing specific needed on the merchant's side other than an NFC-compatible paypass terminal? How does the service work software wise? They could very well have limits on the cards you can use it with.

This is the same thing that I was thinking. This is supposed to be the flagship device...you'd think it would already have Wallet on it...or at least have it available.
Here's a 17-yo Brit's contribution to this (and his first ever to the Android communication - received my first Android phone 3 days ago!):
Google Wallet can be "enticed" to run on the Galaxy Nexus. I'm still waiting for an attempt to test it, so we may find out if it works on Monday.
I used the "googlewalletfix_1.1R38v5_ICS_aok.zip" file (no credit to me - found it elsewhere on these forums) - I did the following (with MoDaCo custom ROM):
Flashed MoDaCo, flashed googlewalletfix, reboot to "proper"
Found Google Wallet wasn't installed
Open root terminal, cd to /mnt/sdcard/gw/
mount -o remount,rw /data/system
cp system/app/NfcGoogle.apk /system/app/NfcGoogle.apk # this is probably a terrible, terrible thing to do to your phone. Turn NFC off first and cross your fingers!
cp system/app/Wallet.apk /system/app/Wallet.apk
I saw some logcat entries telling me it was doing something with my newly positioned apk and lo-and-behold, Wallet was installed and would allow me to get a prepaid Google card!

It all depends on your carrier. Even if your unlocked. I'm using an international version on US's AT&T. I can download google wallet, but as soon as I open it tells me my country/carrier is not supported at this time.

No. You can download it from the Market but when you open it you get "Google Wallet has not yet been certified in your country or on your device/carrier." I'm hoping it's not the former because it's picking the phone up as being from the UK. If it's the latter I'm hoping that when AT&T launches the One X it'll be Google Wallet certified. That may not benefit us though because the AT&T phone will have a different model number. Bottom line, don't buy the international One X if Google Wallet is one of your hot buttons.
Unlikely AT&T will ever allow this as I believe all US carriers are collaborating on using an alternative to Google Wallet. The only thing I can think of is to edit build.prop to spoof a UK carrier.

Well I'm on AT&T as well and when I flashed the google wallet .apk on my Galaxy Nexus I had no problems using it. It wasn't a download from the market, it was a cwm flashable zip and I was able to use it just fine on AT&T. Could this not be done with our One X just the same?
if not, then everyone should get back $50+ on their phones. even descriptions on store sites mention NFC and Google Wallet.

Neither HTC or Google can do anything if AT&T doesn't add the device to their supported list. The GN and NS are designed to be used on multiple carriers while AT&T has their own version of the One X(L). You can root your phone to get Google Wallet working but I advice against it as it's way too easy for your financial info to be hacked.

I'm not too sure about that. The application only seems to work on the Nexus devices; even a rooted and unlocked One X with Market Enabler will receive the same error about device compatibility. Sounds to me like Google will have to update Wallet before One X owners can use it.
I read the other day that google has suspend Google Wallet for now as it's so easy to hack in to anyone's account...

That is an old article. Wallet has received a few updates since then and all is working fine again. Wallet itself was never suspended either. The ability to add new Google prepaid cards was turned off for a short time, and the ability to re-add existing Google prepaid cards that had been removed was disabled for a few weeks after that.
If you were an existing wallet user prior to all the hype you were completely unaffected during that entire time so long as you did not remove your existing prepaid card from with the app itself or wipe/reset your device etc.

Well, that sucks. They could be supporting the Nexi under pressure/cajoling from Citibank/MasterCard/Google. Do any of the phones they sell directly have NFC and support Google Wallet? Being optimistic the One X launch was pushed up and maybe their just not ready yet. There's still no telling if the international version will work because it has a different network ID. Sigh.
if there is some hacked version that works, post it here because i will use it. i don't care if it's not secure. i don't keep money in my bank account for long and i have nothing to hide. ;p

FWIW, I think it uses Market to determine carrier and I'm guessing build.prop possibly for device. I'm sure there's a way to get it to work especially since AT&T is officially supports so it's just the device you have to get over.

it's my guess that after the security flap, google has really beefed up the barriers for wallet. i've read that google is working on whatever has to be done to jump through the hoops in the eu to enable wallet, so if that happens things might change. or maybe if an agreement is reached with at&t, for example, to enable wallet on its one x's that would change accessibility. otherwise everything i've read says no joy on this right now.

The point was trying to change phone id to galaxy nexus, if it's possible.
Changing carrier ID on the galaxy nexus is confirmed to work, also outside of the states.
A lot of people are thinking that T-mobile is blocking Tap to Pay on the Note 3 with KitKat. However, it is reported that Tap to Pay works on the T-mobile S4.
T-mobile isn't blocking Tap to Pay; Google simply hasn't integrated the PN-547 chip into Tap to Pay yet. This is why AOSP builds still don't have Tap to Pay. NXP, within the last week, just integrated the PN-547 chip into 4.4, which means it will probably show up in Android 4.4.3.

That is to use Isis method, what the majority of people want is Google wallet method. What happen with Isis is that works only with certain Credit Cards and not with all of them, I think is only with Wells Fargo, certain chase cards, and Amex.

Thats only if you are going to use ISIS as opposed to GWallet. KitKat is supposed to utilize Host Card Emulation so no secure element or secure sim needed. Its built into android, but it seems right now that TMobile and ATT removed that function to force you to use ISIS since that is what they are backing. I could be wrong, but it doesnt make sense that the Sprint Note 3 uses the same NFC controller and can use tap n pay, but the TMobile and ATT variants cant.

This is why Google Wallet works on it on Android 4.3 and on Android 4.4 (using the old SE-based method, not HCE) but not on any of the other variants.

No idea, that's up to Samsung. The US variants have the NXP P544 controller, while the international variants have the Broadcom BCM20793 controller (same as used in all the Nexus devices), which is the only chip that KitKat's HCE framework currently supports - this is why phones with the Broadcom chip have Tap-and-Pay while those with the NXP chips don't yet. We need to wait for an update from Google that enables support for the P544 chip in the HCE framework.
The Sprint variant is using the NXP P65, which is a P544 combined with a secure element, which is why Wallet works on it (using the old method, not HCE).

That happened a week ago. Definitely not enough time to get it into the Note 3 update. It will probably be in 4.4.3
It's rare to find an excellent informative thread on XDA and the OP nailed it with this one.

PN547 is a new chip. The Note 3 uses the PN544. Not relevant to our problem.
Nevermind, verified to be PN547!
I was running a hacked international 4.4.2 touchwiz rom and tap to pay worked on that. It also works on my Nexus 5. So I see no reason why all of the sudden it's not working for T-Mobile on our Note 3.

OP specifically mentioned the PN547 as being in our phone, and thats what I researched. Shame on me I guess for not verifying the chip in my phone.:silly:

T-mobile blocking HCE within Kitkat.
Actually if you google the changes that came with Kitkat 4.4.2 from Android itself, one of the changes includes a "tap and pay" option in the Settings under NFC. However this option is not available on the T Mobile note 3 after dating to Kitkat 4.4.2. also if you download the app from the Google Play Store called NFC check you will see that after running the check it there goes that is enabled the Android however HCE is not supported on this device, which it should be with Kitkat update.
Does tap and pay work properly on the Verizon Note 4? It won't work on my Note 2.
Used it just fine at Walgreens yesterday.

Yes, bout a soda at a machine with it last weekend.
Works with the VERIZON note 4 (ie SM-N910V) ? I don't even see the option to use tap and pay.. And everything I have read leads me to believe that it doesn't work. Can you post a 'how to' set it up? Thanks...

You need to have NFC turned on for tap & Pay to work...

Not sd ure then. I have a note 4. Installed Wallet from Google plsy, everything works .
Now that it's working places are killing nfc cause of apple pay. Check out CurrentC it's major places trying to get there own inhouse payments using QR. CVS and rite aid have write up in news. GW started it working great then things get stalled because of carriers and GW. Carriers build their own softcard (isis) funny have to rename cause matches terrorist group. Now the stores want a piece to bypass credit card charges and allow them direct access to you back accounts. People are reviewing the CurrentC app in both apple and google stores as 1 star. News is saying for once apple and android people agree on something lol.

Tried it at CVS yesterday...didn't work. CVS has turned it off.

Just received an email from softcard that it will stop service from 3/31 because it's aquired by google. But google wallet is not supported by Note 3, now what...?

By the way, the Google Wallet app works just fine. I get notifications about half a second after I use my card, every time. Life goes on without tap & pay.

You guys are kind of jerks.
"I bought a phone that had feature X. Now feature X doesn't work. How do I get something equivalent?" Is perfectly valid. Just because you swipe your cards like damn savages doesn't mean we all choose to live that way.
X is the last feature I'd look for, I just want to have quality call and messaging features when choosing a phone.
Hope you didn't miss out on your corn nuts and mountain dew because of X feature not working!

Google Wallet works for me. I assume you heard it didn't work with the T-Mobile Note 3. That's because T-Mobile had originally decided to go with SoftCard and blocked Wallet. The email I got had a link to download Wallet.

Google Wallet has always worked on the TMO Note 3. It was the Tap-to-pay functionality that was missing in Google Wallet.
I hope it is working in the new Lollipop update that's in OTA right now. Otherwise it'll be a huge disappointment (NOT like I can't swipe a card, but because I want everything to work on my phone).
I called Wallet support 1-855-492-5538 and their csr stated tap and pay "will definitely work as long as software is up to date." Perhaps they activated it with the new lollipop release.
I have to retract what I posted last night about Google Wallet. Last night a CSR stated it would work "with the latest software". I even got an email to that effect. It doesn't. So I called Wallet this am and, after a long time waiting for them to "research", I was told Tap and Pay will NOT work with T-Mobile Note 3. I asked why it worked for SoftCard and received no logical response. So basically, we're SOL with Tap & Pay on Google Wallet.

Just got lollypop, still no tap and pay. Very disappointed. I don't buy that wallet can't work on the note 3. Softcard works and google purchased (and rightfully killed) them. So use how softcard worked with nfc to to make wallet work with tap and pay. The phone will do it, its the software that won't. give us a fix or a viable replacement for softcard. As to the whiners that say just swipe a card, this is a technology I want to support and is one reason I have a smart phone. You guys miss the point completely.
I agree, scottslc. I'd gotten used to using tap and pay. One thing I enjoyed was not having to actually carry credit cards. And, as some states are testing, you may soon have digital drivers licenses. For the Note 3 (and a couple of others) Samsung chose a different NFC chip, which is why SoftCard required the secure sim. Like you, I'm hoping Google will adapt their technology. If not, I might have to seriously consider another phone.
