If you can replace the entire OS with S-On, why do you think you would be unable to unroot the OS?

sorry for my bad eng , I'm going ot buy a M8 but I have this following question:
I need to temp unroot the M8 by using Supersu
but someone says that I can't do this on a s-on device , temp unroot need a s-off device
is that true??

I don't understand what you intend to do.
Why do you need to "temp unroot"? What do you think that would do?

Maybe he want to run some apps that don't work on rooted phones, like banking, some tv apps...
I used RootCloak earlier on my other phone, don't know if it's still working good...

Right, well, basically there are many ways to detect root. To be sure you'd have to uninstall root, reboot, use the app, reboot recovery reflash root, reboot.
So no "temp unroot".

Maybe you can try this, think it was working for me...

Error : No Connection.?

Hey guys! So my cousin bought this used Desire HD. Its running 2.2 Froyo.
So here is the list of the problems:
1. When downloading from Google Play it does not download the app but it can browse. It gives a "Error : No Connection" in the status bar.
2. It should update to 2.3.3 but it says im already updated.
3. Tried factory resetting 2 times. Same thing.
4. Also one weird thing. I live here in Pakistan, so YouTube is blocked here. But the phone does browse YouTube? (it cant open the video though). Some kind of ROM problem i guess so.
What should i do to resurrect this problem? Thank you! Its the International version. "HTC Desire HD A9191".
Also the Serial number is SH11JRX08759
Sent from my Nexus 4.
You could try unlocking the bootloader, root, and install a 4.2.2 custom rom. This will void the warranty but it may be the only way to fix the problem.
Update : so i went into the bootloader. And its pretty strange. Its S-OFF but not rooted :/ that is a really strange issue. Also i have noted the signals to be a bit more weaker.. Can somebody guide me from here?
Here r the pics btw

Power off the phone. When it is off, hold down the volume down button and press the power button. This should get you into the HBoot screen. At the top of the screen, it will either say "UNLOCKED" or "LOCKED". If it is unlocked that's great. If it's not unlocked, look at the HBoot line to make sure the HBoot version on your phone can be unlocked. If it can, just follow the guide posted in this forum to install a 4ext custom recovery to flash custom roms.

You need the ENG S-OFF in order to use any actual commands/flash anything. Also rooting won't fix the play store problem, you must change ROM.If I may recommend, SVHD for a sense rom, or CM10.1 for that clean look.

Ok I am going to Temporary Root my DHD by Z4Root
Keep in touch kind sir I will update u the details
Unlock your bootloader first via htc dev. just follow the intructions in htcdev
Note: You need to update your bootloader first
- if the ruu in htcdev runs and update your bootloader, then your good to go
- if not or error appears, then create a goldcard (Instruction can be found somewhere here)
copy the updated hboot zip file to the root of your card and flash the zip file in recovery
then go back to unlocking your bootloader via htcdev
once unlock use the easyaceroottool to root your phone
-this will automatically flash the clockword recovery then you can flash any custom rom that you want.:fingers-crossed:

In the old thread that was here many people rebooted straight away with no problems, they had S-OFF.
Example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19911066&postcount=755
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17336292&postcount=721
just make sure you have a custom ROM ready to be flashed, do not boot the stock again once you reboot to bootloader.Flash 4EXT recovery, you can find the recovery .img here
just DL a ROM of your choice and flash it afterwards.

Purchased unlocked and S-off M8 what's a good way to root ?

As the title says I recently purchased my M8 off swappa and was wondering what's the best root method for T-Mobile
If you are s-off you must be rooted also or am I missing something?
Just go to the tmobile thread and read. Find the general or android development thread and read the thread titles. Everything is there for you.

rooted means that su is installed in the ROM, usually with some means if managing which programs can elevate privileges.
Unlocked means you can flash unsigned ROMs and recovery.
S-Off means you can flash unsigned firmware, boot, recovery, and ROMs.
Does that help?

Help with s-off and ota

Hi I have tried to go back to stock to do ota, and now I'm s-on can't get s-off again or get the ota to install or flash, I'm stuck and in need of some.Help please
Not enough info. Did you restore stock recovery? Why can't you install OTA (what error messages, etc.)?
Did you turn it back to S-on after doing S-off? If so, you didn't need to, as s-on is not required for OTA.
What is the current state of the phone, is it bootlooping, etc.?
The error.message from htc says the phone is rooted or tampered with and.cannot perform.update, I tried recovery and.relocking, to see if i can do the ota, same.error, I tried to flash the ota by going into the recovery screen after recovery to stock, where hold volume up and.press power brings up a menu to install from device or sd card, no luck there, says invalid cid
Current state of.the phone is rooted twrp, unlocked, s-on (firewater doesn't.work anymore), Harman karman installed, supercid, phone has boot looped but supersu did a update, so far no more boot loop, kit Kat 4.4.2, software #1.55.6664

Perform a clean install of a TWRP Backup (of course one that fits your CID/MID, which is why @zhiarw asked for it I think) without this mod. After this reinstall stock recovery and try OTA again.
This should do the job.

Ok, then find backup corresponding to your FW for this CID without H/K Mod, install using recovery (e.g. TWRP), go back to stock revocery.
After this you should be abled to perform the OTA.

It's quite strait forward:
1) flash stock backup using TWRP
2) flash stock firmware using fastboot commands in bootloader
--> reverted to stock
3) check for OTA in settings menu

Modified Status in Recovery

Hey guys !
As the title suggests. What does that mean? and how do i revert to official locked ?
I have s-on and have rooted and installed twrp, and cwm afterwards. And decided to go back to stock( because the current methods of changing to s-off are not working) by flashing through cwm a RUU backup. And flashing the stock recovery afterwards. I have also declined root access when prompted by cwm after RUU install.
What can I do to return to 100% stock ?
After entering fastboot The first text is ***MODIFIED*** and at os there is blank space. I want to return my phone to out of the box state.

Doesn't matter, you can restore stock ROM until the cows come home. You won't be able to change the modified flag in the bootloader. You need S-OFF to change the text to "official" just like you'll need S-OFF to change the bootloader "locked" text to "Locked" and not "Relocked" if you relock the bootloader.
You will NOT be able to have it show the same way it was "out of box" if you do NOT have S-OFF.
So the only way is to buy the s-off service with 25$ right?

Then you're fine.
Rooted, S-OFF, Modified status, none of those will prevent OTA updates. You MUST have stock reocovery and stock ROM for OTA updates i.e No changes to system files, no deleted apps, no xposed framework.
If all those are stock you can get and install OTA no problem. Don't even have to relock the bootloader for it.
