So last night my phone was acting weird. Wouldn't send text and was kinda dying faster than usual.
I got it fully charged and went to sleep. Unplugged it after it was charged....I woke up like 4 hours later, the phone was at 6% and was seriously SO hot... I thought it was going to burst into flames. I turned it off a little to cool down and after checked the battery stats.. "Google play services" 35% Keep awake 5h 23m 26s -- CPU total 1h 24m
I need a little help because its still kinda warm
Anyone
Get greenified and greenify google play services. You need "pro" version to greenify system apps.
Next time phone starts acting up, restart it.

I had this after several ota updates, did a full wipe flash to 10i (latest) and it's been done ever since.

See my phone isn't even rooted! I have the tmobile version and I will admit after the ota update that happened not to long ago it's been giving me probs.
Also... My phone drained it's self last night while I was sleeping. It was around 85% and I woke up it was dead. I think I gotta factory reset it
sorry, I'd assumed you'ds rooted it. Definitely do a factory reset, you've got some pain backing up and restoring apps though.
If you root and use titanium, that gets much easier

Yeah I've rooted my last 3 phones but this one I've been just waiting and keeping it stock. Funny story: about 7 years of having rooted phones... Never used and app back up and just did it myself :x haha.
I'm just gonna back up the pics now and do it

Now I'm contemplating if I should just root it haha
I always tell myself I won't mess with the device I buy. But then I always end up rooting lol
I think root and then install xposed, and you'll get access to a whole heap of functionality.
I did this and also use tasker, and I'm very happy.
Reverting back to a non rooted phone is very easy should you need to.
The reason I rooted was to make the external sd card writable, and also to perform the headphone mod for volume increase.
So can anyone confirm that to stop this its as easy as using the paid version if Greenify, the OP said he couldnt find it in the list?
seems everyone has this problem, i struck it on my old Galaxy, took me ages to sort it
Well now maybe I'll just root it. Any idea what the best way to root the tmobile version is

Google Play Services has been updating I believe and causing issues for some. If your issues don't stop after a couple days and with some reboots you could always root the phone and try Greenify like suggested, although so many things depend on GPS that typically it won't Hibernate easily.
Factory resets, clear cache/Dalvic and reboots can help.

I'd definitely root that phone! Use Stump Root found in the Original Development Forum. Also, you can run a custom recovery on your TMobile G3 and with that you can make nandroid backups in case whatever you decide to do to your phone goes badly, you can easily restore it. Your very lucky to have that option, your G3 is the only one right now with a true untethered custom recovery.

After the ICS update on my non-rooted phone, the phone seems to be freezing
up and becoming unresponsive. After a while it looks like the radio "resets", all
the icons disappear in the top bar (signal, wifi, data) and it shows no service.
Then slowly one by one they all come back and I can use the phone again.
Sometimes I receive the "System is not responding" dialog box, but not always.
There is not one particular program it is doing this in, it can be something as
simple as pulling down the notification bar that will cause the freeze.
Any suggestions are appreciated, I couldn't find anyone else with the same issue.
Thanks.
Try:
Turn off phone
Take out SIM
Put SIM back
Turn on
I've had my phone act weird with respect to signal, wifi and data when this was the issue. Worth a shot, at the very least.

Thank you for the response.
Tried this and had the system is unresponsive issue right on reboot. If I do a
factory reset, does it reset to the current firmware or what was originally on the
phone (probably a really stupid question). I wonder if some other program isn't
ICS compatible and is doing something in the background. Doesn't look like
anyone else is having this same issue.

If you do a factory reset and it was the standard Kies legit update from Tmo, it won't downgrade your phone - will just re-install a fresh copy of your ICS. Did you do a restore of apps from your last version (gb?) with data? That could cause problems I would think..

Yes I did the legit update on Kies, standard stock phone un-rooted.
Do I need to backup pictures before the reset, its been a while since
I had to do this.
At this point, I think its worth a try to wipe it clean and clear out all the
data.

wipe the dalvik cache and cache then reboot
I did a factory reset and that solved the issue.
Thanks for all the assistance.
I've done a factory reset and wiped the cache more than once already and i still get a force close or unresponsive, enough that its really irritating me now. Any advice? And also, when texting, the typing responds very slow.

Are you letting it sit for like 10 minutes during first boot after factory reset then reboot again before setting up. Its likely that some scripts are running from the initial installation and you need to let it rot until its done..
I did exactly that, thanks for the advice. Hoping that may fix the problem. I wiped the cache and factory reset, then let the phone sit for a good while before going through the play store and re-installing everything.
This issue just resurfaced again. The last 2 days I am getting the freezing, radio reboot and android process not responding.
No one else having this issue?
I think I'm in the same boat. I was stock GB, and just did the mini OTA update (which was great). A few days later ICS became available via Kies from T-Mobile, and I "upgraded".
Since the upgrade my phone is laggy, screen is significantly less responsive and also my battery life is less than before.
I have NOT done a factory reset of my phone yes (plan on doing that today), but even with that I have read that performance does not improve.
Ideally, I would love to return back to the stock tmobile gb firmware. However, even after literally 2 hours of reading I can't find the "how-to" and files I need.
I would appreciate any assistance.
t989 chip lags
ive notice this happen on my tmobile galaxy s2. i think it has to do with the Qualcomm chip on tmobiles stock roms.
When i had sprint i bought my girlfriend a galaxy s2 on the sprint network which runs the samsung exynos chip. She never complained about any lag or freezing whatsoever. I then left sprint because of their garbage network and joined tmobile.
bought 2 galaxy s2s and i noticed the lag almost immediately. The phone has random lag spikes as well as freezing and force closes. It had it on stock gingerbread and it has it on stock ICS too.
My girlfriend complains about freezing all the time so i decided to root her phone too. Right now im testing DarkSides v7 rom and if its pretty good in performance i will flash her phone with it too. So far it has been pretty snappy and everything works.

Because you are on stock ics (im guessing you are..), you can just follow that guide and flash the UVLDE update.

Data block on her line.
She doesnt have much installed in it and i dont want to reset it. is there anything i can install that will tell me what is causing it?
I know there is a better battery stats app. Not sure if it needs root? Imunsure it will help as its a bit confusing to read thru all the readings
Strangely mines did this for a day and it killed my battery. Hasn't happened since then though. Glad I wasn't going crazy. Mines is also stock no root or anything.

This is happening on my phone too, and when the screen turns on by itself it won't time out, have to manually lock it. Thought it was something to do with smart stay but mine is disabled. I flashed a custom rom yesterday and noticed it still happening. Carriers hardware support thinks it is a hardware issue and want me to rma my phone.

Hi all, heres the story:
At first, I thought I was loosing my mind, I kept checking my phone and the WiFi was always off, which is weird for me.
Anyway I turn it back on and go about my day, check half an hour later its off.
I was like "im sure I turned that back on" anyway same again half an hour later.
So I was watching it this dinner, and low and behold I watch both my WiFi and my network connections restart themselves like someone was switching them on and off, but the WiFi didn't re-connect and stayed off, wereas data re-connected ok.
It goes on ! I then realised that my phone was calling people by itself, which is also weird as theres no buttons to accidently press to call people? (ITS TOUCHSCREEN!!!)
Anyway, today I recieved a text off someone asking me why the heck I'd just sent them map co-ordinates.
So someone or my phone is sending people map co-ordinates....
The ONLY thing I can think of is Cerberus, could Cerberus be causing this?
Is this the phone telling me its on its way out?
Any solutions?
THANKS ALL !
You have kind of answered your own question. Just uninstall Cerberus and see if it fixes it.

UPDATE:
I un-installed Cerberus, cleared cache and tried to find any left behind data(wasnt any?)
Also deleted my device off the Cerberus app website
LOW AND BEHOLD THIS MORNING CONNECTIONS TURN OFF AND ON?!?!?!
What can be doing this? I only have apps from trusted Vendors such as Natwest, Vodaphone, couple of games, Tasker etc :/
Any ideas?
Can it be Tasker? It's supposed to automate tasks. Maybe there are some causing all this. Try freezing it.

I also thought it could be tasker, but Tasker has been setup for months and months, and not changed for atleast 2/3 months+
I checked tasker, and theres only 3 profiles, which have nothing to do with any connections.
They're profiles such as, plug headphones in and music player appears.
PS - Cannot freeze, stock and un-rooted.
My mate had similar issues with his SGS2. Upon examining the phone I discovered an app called Blackmart Alpha, I discovered it was a program which downloads cracked/patched apps. Did a hard reset of the phone and all was fixed, well not all, he was very pi$$ed with me for losing a heap of apps.

I enjoy supporting the developers that make apps, and if that means buying a paid version of an app then so be it.

So apparently my Stock Rooted GS3 (doesn't even have a custom recovery) decided to start acting terribly and now it freezes almost anytime I try to use it. It'll then reboot itself, and freeze again minutes later.
This is absolutely ridiculous, I literally didn't do a thing! I just want the damn phone to work (hence why I didn't even install a custom ROM) and of course it apparently decides to stop working on me.
I really, really do not want to have to reset the phone to factory settings only to find out it still freezes (which is what some other people with similar issues did).
If anyone knows a solution, please tell me. This is really frustrating.
Edit: So I tried uninstalling updates on Google Play Services to see if that was messing with anything (before I had downloaded a leaked version of it to run the Kit Kat launcher) and then installed the regular update and so far everything seems to be working. It's only been 10 minutes or so though so it's a bit early to tell. Hopefully this solved my issue.

Fortunately I don't think I have to. It seems reinstalling Google Play Services has fixed it. It was a lucky guess too since the only reason why I thought to do that was because I noticed in the Battery settings it said that Google Play Services had been keeping my phone awake which usually never happens.

Same thing happening to me today; VERY frustrating.
I don't recall what programs automatically updated overnight (I just usually swipe the message away in the morning when it says that).

Do I *need* Odin or can I flash it with TWRP directly from the phone, etc.?

So, I bought it on launch day and I'm getting desperate...
1) Wake screen after receiving notification (text etc). Pull down notification bar, back and multitask soft buttons grey out and phone will not respond. If I'm listening to music when this happens, the song keeps playing until I pull the battery or the phone reboots itself.
2) General lag is awful... More than half the time it has noticeable hangs switching apps or opening anything. I'm down to next to no apps that i've installed and have even tried removing just about everything I have with no improvement. Scrolling stutters about half the time as well. And the image you see with the camera open stutters badly also. Every once in a while it's buttery smooth for a few seconds then slows again.
Battery life is great and I love the form factor of this phone. I REALLY don't want to get rid of it but I'm at the point where it's more important to have a phone that's usable than have the extra screen size etc.
It's bone stock and I haven't tried a factory reset.
Suggestions?
