Just downloaded your stock recovery, 2.22.401.05, I see it's an 'img' rather than a 'zip'.
Do I put the file in my sdk platform tools folder, open command window and type 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img' after renaming the file ?
Thanks
Yep that's it exactly

Yes sir
Also you might need to restore the preloaded data (flashlight and calculator apps) depending on how you unlocked your phone initially. If you used the HTC dev unlock those apps will be deleted when the phone is wiped

I'm ok with that, s-off and unlocked bootloader with sunshine so no preloaded data 'disappeared'. So.... should be a 'complete' nandroid I've got.
Thanks

Just tried to install your stock recovery with fastboot commands. Kept getting message along the lines of "can't open file etc".
Had restored my stock nandroid successfully, put phone in fastboot mode and typed "fastboot devices" which produced my serial number ok.
Got the recovery on with a toolkit but would like to find out why it wouldn't flash with commands.
I've had these issues before with m7 too and ended up using toolkits.
Thanks.

Guys I'm in deep trouble! This is what happens when you don't rally know what you're doing!
I tried to revert back to stock, first by putting stock recovery on it via fastboot which said it was successful, so when I go into recovery I've still got CWM on it, so I tried to go into usb mounts and storage because I'd put my nand back up on it to restore that but it just said error so couldn't access it. So I ended up going down the ruu route and ran 1.26.206.2 but I noticed when the ruu started to run and it said update image from 1.29.206.11 to 1.26.206.2 I guess you can't go backwards because it said something like bootloader mismatch. I've downloaded the 1.29 ruu but it's in zip format, how do I install it? Plus after running the ruu I cant install my nand backup recovery or boot image. Believe me I did do a lot of reading but I guess I'm just thick I just can't seem to grasp it. All I've got now is the bootloader so I don't know whether the phone is charging or not. The battery was probably around 80% when I started out over an hour ago and I have tried to sort it myself but this is out of my league. Can someone please help or point me in the right direction, I'm desperate.
The 1.29 RUU is not available yet, and the zip file you tried to download was apparently an OTA file, which you can't use.
Give me the following info to proceed:
-CID using fastboot command
"fastboot oem readcid"
-Main version with following command
"fastboot getvar version-main"
Sent from my EndeavorU using xda app-developers app
First of all thank you for replying.
my cid is o2-001
the main version is 1.29.206.11
First of all you should have access to custom recovery. If you can't access, try to reflash cwm and make sure it's v5.8.4.0.
Download the appropriate stock nandroid backup from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140
Save boot.img from it for further use.
Transfer backup to phone and restore as usual.
Flash boot.img.
Then you can flash stock recovery and relock bootloader if you want.
Edit: you sure your bootloader is still unlocked?

What is the exact command word for word in fastboot? this is the image I have, recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.0-endeavoru

Done that, it sends ok but then fails to write saying remote not allowed?
Your bootloader is locked. Unlock it again.
If you have the unlock_code.bin in your email, you can use it, otherwise you have to go through htcdev unlock process entirely.

Try powering phone off and on again, confirm that it is in fastboot mode, also check if "fastboot devices" returns anything.
Do you have the unlock code in fastboot folder on your pc?
The exact command is: "fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin"
Sent from my EndeavorU using xda app-developers app
Okay I've successfully unlocked again and its rebooted to a screen with the word android on the screen, now do I leave that to see what happens or do I need to go into bootloader and follow the instructions you gave before regarding flashing cwm etc?
Go ahead and proceed with the instructions I gave earlier.

Are you referring to a backup made by you or one downloaded from my link?
Anyways, you do not need to rename it, just have it on sdcard in clockworkmod folder and restore it using cwm's backup/restore function.

I've done that but still get the same error, I created a folder named clockwork mod and then a subfolder named backup and put the backup in there?
Also, the backup should be unzipped, so /clockworkmod/backup/backupname/
The backupname folder should contain bunch of files: boot.img, a couple of .tar files etc. It's hard to explain.
Anyways, the downloaded backup is guaranteed to work. Just extract the .zip file's contents to the folder /clockworkmod/backup/backupname/

Hi guys, I've been using CM 10.1 but will now sell the phone so I want to revert it back to stock. I have searched a long time for instructions but kept running into stumbling blocks. Basically, the RUU I need is 4.18.401.2 but then I found out HTC no longer released their RUUs so I tried to find a nandroid backup. Then I found this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33728099 but non of the correct RUUs match my CID (HTC_102). Can anyone give me a hand and point me in the right direction? Thanks a lot!
Use ANY 3.20.401 nand (yes you read it correctly !) Restore it completely, after that you flash back the 3.20 STOCK HTC recovery. Then search manually for OTA and update the phone as much as you can. AFTER that you can relock the bootloader if you wish !

You sir, are a saint! Just to clarify, when the bootloader is unlocked, I can still have OTA updates? When it's relocked, OTA updates are no longer possible? I'm asking because I have a new Xperia Z1 Compact and they seem to suggest that I can only use the Sony Update Service when the bootloader is relocked. I know the Sony Update Service is not OTA and is a computer application but I just wanted to clarify that's it's not a difference in the way the phones' bootloaders function.
EDIT: I've downloaded 3.20.401.1 CWM HTC__E11 and copied the contents of the rar to my phone. I went into CWM recovery and tried to restore but it said "No Files Found. Couldn't open directory." Am I looking in the wrong place? But I couldn't choose the directory (anyway, the files are in the only folder on the SD card).
EDIT 2: I tried to do a backup to see what would happen and got this: "Backing up data...No /sdcard/.android_secure found. Skipping backup of applications on external storage. Backing up cache...No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext."
EDIT 3:It worked! I'm such an idiot, the recovery was in the wrong folder. Thanks a bunch!
Good ! For a hox counts that you can do ota with and without an unlocked bootloader.

Hi,
I am not new to rooting and flashing but I seem to have jammed.
I can flash custom recoveries(used both CWM and TWRP) no bother but I cannot flash rom.
I have tried pushing and side loading. TWRP just says failed.
CWM says cannot open update.zip from tmp (bad)
I am unlocked.
I am S-ON so I don't know a way around that atm without a ROM. I have tried reinstalling stock but failed.
HTC one M8 UK EE network.
Would love to fix this please.
I'm a novice, this is my first android phone but I believe you have to be s-off to flash ROMs. I'm on EE too, what I done was paid for Sunshine, about £14 I think, that unlocked the bootloader and s-off. I can flash ROMs no issues.

You don't need to be s-off to flash a custom rom.. just a unlocked bootloader.

As I would, normally.
Toolkits cause more issues than they solve.
Try:
fastboot erase cache
Then flash recovery again, and see if that helps.
Also, do you get the phone model number as a response when you type both:
adb devices
fastboot devices
finally fixed it. Now enjoying Venom.
Thanks for your suggestions

Not entirely sure how i fixed it but I'll list what I did.
Usually I work from a mac but decided to start afresh on my desktop.
I downloaded venom for m8
reflashed TWRP recovery.
Booted to recovery.
wiped cache and such.
Then adb side loaded the rom.
Some reason it worked. I have done this a good few times previously and with various rooms, not just venom.
I was using the AIO toolkit to side load this rather than the ADB cmd prompt.
Thanks for posting the steps that worked for you.
Like you said, hard to say what fixed it. Perhaps getting away from the toolkit, maybe just re-flashing recovery (even though you had done so previously) or wiping cache.
If moving a ROM to the device form the PC, I prefer adb push to adb sideload. Sideload seems to fail sometimes where push is fine. Push is some more steps (booting recovery and a few taps there to flash the ROM) but it seems more reliable. Although if it worked, it worked!

It works great. It took some time because I had to find Win7 32 bit with direct internet connection (I'm on Win8 64 bit) but at the end it is S-OFF.
Thank you!
Now I have another problem. After S-OFF with this method I can not start Bluetooth. Tried with wiping data (factory reset) but no luck. It would be nice to have radio to download. Maybe that would help my situation.
For now I will try with different ROM.
