Got my FTW today with the latest actual firmware - so no point in downgrading.
I just installed the latest KODI nightly (helix based) within FTV. There's no chance in selecting 1080 @ 24hz, because the resolution-options are greyed out. Also SPMC is not able to select those setting. So - is this version not able to select resolution options at all? Is there ANY way to force XBMC/KODI to use [email protected] constantly? With 60 (or 50) native 24hz movies are nearly not smootly watchable.... stutters every few secs

its 60hz only, afaik its not possible to change refresh rates in android.
Android L has auto frame rate switching, so hopefully the Fire TV is updated to that OS. Its not a Kodi thing, but and Android issue which has not supported 24hz till this day

They already have Fedora running on it. But it's more about kernel support and the kernel video driver than the Linux dist.

The 2013 kindle hdx was updated from 4.2 to 4.4 when the 2014 kindle hdx was launched. So who knows, when the fireTV 2 launches with android L/android TV next year they might just update this device with the identical firmware too. Just trying to be optimistic here lol.

Hi,
is there any news on this? My Raspberry supports it perfectly, so I would like to get a faster hardware, and the Fire TV seems to be a nice option, but without framerate switching, its worthless
could someone port this script over from another android tv setup to help with the 24p /24hz

Any problems with it? Is it buggy in any way? I'm looking for a cheap xbmc device but a raspberry pi is too much work.
I am using it and it works amazing well for me. Before I had pivos xios, ouya, MINIX neo x7 and they all their own issues. Finally for TV gives best of all of them. Only con is you have to tinker a bit but it's not too hard.

No bugs at all? If I am using XBMC, will I be able to access Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Instant Video? Also, is it easy to unroot and factory reset?

No flaws. I'm rooted but root is really not relevant to running XBMC. For years I ran Plex on a MacMini. This is way better. Just to start -- DTS pass-thru.
Sideloading is really easy. So is uninstalling. I can't see a down side here.

This is all true. However, to get the best possible XBMC experience on the KFTV will require root and to setup an XBMC Launcher (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2790392). This launcher replaces the KFTV launcher while still providing access to it and Amazon Prime. It's literally the best of both worlds.

Hi.
I've rooted my AFTV and installet XBMC. It works good, but I have some problems.
1) IPTV PVR SIMPLE addon not working. When I whant to play any channel it freezes and can't go back to menu. Only reset helps.
2) Some kind of shifting in rewind when making step forward or backward fo 30 sec. Very long time of buffering.
3) Sleep mode in XBMC not working properly. It reboots AFTV every time, but no sleep.
4) And the biggest problem in Audio. When I use Direct output with ac3, dts, etc the video playback begins to slow.

1. May be You know any other way to play IPTV playlist without installing additional server soft (such as Tvheadend)? On my HTPC I use "PVR IPTV Simple Client" and it works perfect. On AFTV it stucks.
2. Fast-forward causes everything to look choppy. I think I should edit advancedsettings.xml
3. I made all steps by this wiki. I've installed this Android Screensaver and it worked normally till today. Now my AFTV every minute reboots instead of sleep mode.
4. Yes. In standart settings it works. Without enable passthrough. But this is not acceptable for me.

I have had a raspberry pi with raspbmc for over a year. I bought the firetv two weeks ago. While I enjoyed tinkering around with the pi and tweaking it to get the best experience for xbmc, the fire tv is much better. It's just so much more powerful and as a result everything is very smooth, menus, video playback - all of it. In addition, you have the added benefit of having access to netflix and amazon prime which you will not get on raspbmc. Now I have to turn on one less device when I want to watch netflix. Finally, it seems like there are some devs working on unlocking the bootloader - so I would imagine that custom roms can't be far off. So if those things sound good to you, I would highly recommend the FTV.

DTS pass-thru is something that I was banging my head against the wall to make it work, then I just saw "advanced settings" on the left bottom of menu just to find out that you need to activate this to have access to audio pass-thru. Then it worked flawlessly.

Hello
I got the Kodi 14 RC1 install on my Fire Stick. It works really well despite one problem, blurriness despite at high resolution like 1080p. For example, if I watch a twitch stream through XBMC or Twitch app itself, the picture looks like it runs on 360/480 despite I select 1080p. I read in some of posts that this seems to be some software codec issues since for certain video files it runs fine without the blurriness issue. Also, Netflix is not working, it will starts to play then stop. I wonder if Amazon is aware of this and they are going to fix it soon.
On another note, my FireStick is running the original firmware (54.1.0.0_user_100211520). They have and updated version of the software, version 54.1.0.1_user_101016220. I want to know if anybody is running this newer version. Is the newer version fix the blurriness issue and Netflix? If yes, then I will upgrade it to the newer version since it is annoying since I can't read any small text at higher resolution because it is too blurry.
Thanks for your help.
Just got my stick yesterday and I allowed the system update. I can confirm Netflix works without issue. I'm also running TVMC which is based on XBMC Gotham 13.2, this also runs great, crisp picture on 1080p movies. Maybe the newer codecs in Kodi 14 not optimized for FireTV stick?

Hello,
Thanks for the info. I just did an upgrade to the newer version and you are right. Netflix runs great on it. However, Kodi 14.0 RC1 still has the same blurrines. I guess I will just wait till the official 14.0 is released. Thanks for replying.
Yup, same here, Kodi UI is crisp but videos are blurry. . I hope this gets ironed out.

I concur. I'm having the same issue on my FireTV Stick. I'm running it on a 720p display. I will also try it on a 1080p display and see if it's any better.
I have tried both XBMC 13.2 and SPMC (13.3 I think) and they are both not as sharp as the native FireTV Stick apps even though I'm playing Blu-Ray rips through XBMC.
Was having the same issue with my stick and gave up and sold it, hopefully someone can find a fix and I'd buy it again, great value

It work, but it's not really usable as a solution, CPU get overloaded and video drop frames: http://i.imgur.com/qYRBVTd.jpg , however it would indicate a problem with the hardware video decoder, in that case, out of luck for me, no chance of fixing it without at least having root.

It's a boring but not critical issue, the TV is working fine as long as you don't change channel. beside, it might still be fixable by adding a delay to the channel switch. I know TVHeadEnd is a bit special (I also had issue on the Pi (RPi 1 B 256MB Ram) that I needed a proxy to fix.)
Does the CPU get overloaded if you just turn off libstagefright? What doesn't work if you do? (I don't even know what it does.)

I've tried turning off libstagefright on my FireTVStick and it seems to work most of the time - occasionally the audio and picture go out of sync on the BBC HD channels* and quick channel change fixes it for a while. Alas, as with Kodi on my Nexus 7 and Z1 Compact Kodi just exits on it's own occasionally (presumably memory management). With stagefright on the picture was awful (3-4 fps). This is with TVHeadend connected to a DVB-S2 Sat>IP Tuner (via HomePlugs), a DVB-T2 USB tuner and 2xDVB-T USB tuners.
I have to point out that I've used it massively as it's connected to the same TV as my media centre PC (was more interested in seeing if the stick would be a viable alternative for the Raspberry Pi in the kitchen), and well the Fire TV Stick has only been available for two days!
* Not seen this on BBC ONE East Midlands SD or any other SD channel, or indeed Channel 4 HD. The BBC HD channels are rather high bit rate and didn't work properly on my Pi before over-clocking that so might be hitting the limits of what is possible here too.

Figured out that if it doesn't "fully support" certain cable boxes it will wither gray out the Guide and/or PVR options. Personally I'd prefer the option to show the Slingbox overlay guide, rather than trying to leverage the devices native guide, which is too slow and sluggish to be usable.

It's SlingMedia being stupid again. I have two Fire Sticks, a 1st Gen and a 2nd Gen, and a Slingbox 350 with great upload. I used to be able to get all the controls on the 2nd Gen, then Sling "did something" and now like others have stated the only controls I now get are "Quality", "Disconnect" and a couple others but nothing you can use to control the SB with.
But the 1st Gen? Works perfectly, all the controls are there, everything works going to the exact same Slingbox 350. I haven't checked to see if there's a difference between the 1st-Gen and 2nd-Gen's app versions, so maybe that's it. But in any case, SlingMedia has always been kind of ****ty when it comes to support so I don't expect this to ever be fixed.
virtualadam1 : Yhea, I got this problem, as my provider is Videotron in Quebec,Canada. I thing the problem is the country you choose for your slingbox as any of the Canadian provider I try didn't give me access to than ''Guide'' and ''DVR'' option. I have a slingbox 500 connect to a Cisco 8642 box with Videotron but to make all the feature work I need to choose US as a country and 33060 as zip code + Comcast as provider. Now everything work perfectly with FIRE TV only. Any other stick or apps will give me the guide from comcast.
Update: Apparently somehow not being able to see all the remote-control buttons in the Slingbox Player for Fire TV app is an issue with only the 2nd-gen Fire TV Stick; if I run the app (same Amazon account, same SP App version) on a 1st-gen Fire TV Box, a 1st-gen Fire TV stick or the new 4K Fire TV dongle, the buttons all show up.
One other thing to note is that on all the Fire devices that the Slingplayer app works fully on, in "Settings->Display->Scale" you can adjust the picture size for overscan, which is something only the 2nd-Gen Fire Stick, the only one without all the SP buttons, can't adjust (it gives a lame message about "Fix your TV's settings instead", which is useless in places like hotels, or TVs w/o aspect ratio controls or where overscan can't be otherwise be adjusted).
can someone repost valid links pls?
Currently my Fire TV Stick 4K is running in 32-bit mode with support of 64-bit ARM-v8-A. I'm asking if it's easy to change it to 64-bit? I used AIDA64 which provides device info of my device. This is found in the CPU tab of the app and is labeled as instruction set.

We just need a 64-bit kernel and 64-bit OS.

Yeah I see why now because the OS it's currently using is 32-bit and I'm really hoping we get Fire OS 7 soon with support for 64-bit along with a kernel with it too

I don't think Amazon will ever make a 64 bit os version for its stick, On Cube it may be possible but on sticks, i don't think so

They really need to update the fire 4k stick to android 9 instead of bringing out other trashy sticks in a higher os. Maybe if enough people shout for a pie 64 update...... Who knows?
@Skel40, I have your Debloated rom 6.2.7.3 running ftvlaunchx and firesetiings with ATV launcher Pro , will it be safe to use your Buildprop Tweaks on this version with the aforementioned modifications or will I need to go back to firetv launcher first??

I know the first-gen bueller box got an update from kitkat 4.4 to lollipop 5.1, but I believe that is the first and the last fireTV with a major OS update until today.
Is amazon going to push an update with the next major version of Android onto the 4k stick? I doubt it.
Seems there isn't any support at all. And its a shame, really.
They preffer to start selling new crappy lite sticks in 1080p max
Where the f*ck is the f*cking PIE update for the 4k stick!
We need it now!
PS: I'll take it also in 32bit

The Build.prop tweaks are completely safe to add yourself no matter what state the Fire TV is in with or without the AFTV launcher

Amazon really messed up with the specs. The 4K is more powerful than the new sticks so it wouldn't really make any sense for them to not release the next major release considering how up to date the specs are from a cheap device that's more capable of 4K and having very similar boards to the current ones that replace the old second generation stick. I take it in 32-bit mode considering it to be the only option for what the 4K can handle like Nvidia's Shield TV Tube's same 32-bit only mode.
