When running any sense based rom i get solid download speeds of 10+mbs in my house and about 2mbs up.
When I flash any CM based rom I'm lucky to get half of that. It's really sad. I love PA and CM but can't use them because of this.
I'm on T-Mobile.
Just curious if anyone else has this issue.
Also that data icon just flips between 3g and h+ constantly. I have a cell fi Booster in my home, which gives me solid H+. So idk.

I have the T989D from Telus in canada, and every single rom ive tried(cause theyre just modified t-mobiles)..says 3g instead of 4g. I was wondering if there was a way to fix this?
Thanks!

Did you try running a speed test? I am definitely getting 4G speeds even though it says 3G. I'm not sure why this happens.
it's just a bug in the icons
the speed is not affected
i wont be able to test that util later this week, as where i am right now gets like 5 megs tops no matter what

Lol that is definitely 4G speed still. 3G speed.. sucks
You know that HSPA+ is actually 3G right? To the phone it connects on the same frequencies and uses the same method, just uses a wider connection channel.
That's why a custom ROM identifies as '3G', Telus wrote some custom features into the OS that makes it show up as 4G.
Basically, they replaced the 3G icon with a 4G icon. The 3G icon never shows up on stock Telus.
I'm using the latest FF18. With AOKP build 40.
My signal has always not been that great with Samsung phone.
My Palm Pre gets full 5 bars of signal when the Samsung displays only 3.
I find I can't dial out some times or get 3G coverage often. 4G works in some areas and I know that is limited a bite.
Do you think I should go back to the stock and then do a phone update?
I can't use ##Data# with the AOKP builds.
I live in Dallas tax and according to the coverage map lte is all over. When my preferred network settings are set to lte/ cdma it never connects to lte goes to 3g for a few minutes then disxonnexts. Switch my preferred network settings to cdma and 3g is always connected. Could this be a cyanogen issue or do most people deal with this? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Sprint's marketing department figured it'd be better to show LTE coverage of completion. Unfortunately, your area is probably not covered yet, but will be once the city is completely upgraded.
So basically I need to leave it in CDMA preferred network mode to keep it connected?

LTE coverage would be a Sprint problem - the random disconnects are timeouts through eHRPD via Cyanogenmod RIL issues. It wont timeout on you on other ROMs, but if you place it onto CDMA only, you'll be fine.
Until Cyanogenmod fixes the problem, the random LoS (Loss of Service) issues will continue.
If you download and use Sensorly, it shows actual coverage, where actual users have picked up LTE coverage.
Anybody know of good ROMs that don't have this issue? My friend said aokp is good but he's on a different carrier, any thoughts?
Thanks
I was using AOKP and was having this same issue... assuming it's because they get a lot of their code from the CM repos.
I ended up trying out a few different TW ROMs and my signal strength was amazing with any of them. Currently I'm using FreeGS3 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748818 ) and have no real issues.
The only thing that bugged me about the TW ROMs is some of the default apps like Email/Exchange, but I just replaced those with the APKs from AOKP and everything is fine.
If the signal issue gets fixed in CM/AOKP I would be more than willing to jump back, but the massive difference in signal strength is too much for me to not use a TW ROM.

All AOSP roms are based off CM10 github, so they're all going to have the issue. AOKP is a little dated now 11/10 build doesn't have LoS, but it doesn't connected to Ehrpd either. The issue is, once LTE connection is established, and you move outside an LTE area, you go LoS for a bit (some say 20 seconds, others say 5 minutes). But it wont lose signal until LTE is dropped.
EDIT: the cm10 timeouts were after the LJ7 blobs were implemented, which I believe were 11/11 and after.
This is also happening on stock jb.

thanks for the info, going to flash the tm rom when I get home.
Im in Dallas as well and its still being built out.
I get 3G at home, closer to down town. I get stable and steady 4G LTE at work, near Abrams and NorthWest HWY. In fact at my office on the 4th floor im on 4G LTE all day, ride the elevator down and by the time i get to my truck in the parking lot back to 3G. Drive a minute down the road and it might go back to 4GLTE again.
Luckily for me at my office on the 4th floor i get 4G LTE strong enough it holds the signal and isnt constantly switching.
The odd thing is a couple times a week my phone will switch to 4G LTE at my residence but when this happens i get no data on my device. I have to wait for it to go back to 3G to get data back. I think its a tower issue.
I'm having the same experience. LTE usuallys drops quickly. I get it in my apt and it is pretty fast. I live in Richardson. I experience LOS when I try to go from 4g to 3g. It drops the call everytime.
Well damn, hopefully they hurry and build out the network around dallas

I think thats the sentiments of everybody on Sprint with an LTE device.. No matter where they are..

Anyone noticing data speed issues? I've been noticing really slow data speeds lately. I have also noticed a lot of 3G and H+ being listed by by signal bar. Rarely see 4G or LTE anymore. I'm on T-Mobile, and I have a CellSpot.
I'm on latest CM 13 stock build.
Has anyone noticed their 5T's LTE signal is stronger when using OOS ROMs compared to AOSP ROMs? I've noticed this consistently whether at home, at work, or out and about. It's not like those places have a weak LTE signal either, it's just that OOS ROMs seems to be better from a signal strength, speed, and latency point of view.
Edit: I noticed on AOSP ROMs, AospExtended included, the network mode is usually 3G and not 4G LTE, even though the LTE signal is better than 3G and has lower latency as well as greater speeds. However on OOS based ROMs, it is the other way around, and the LTE signal tends to be stronger as well. I'm using the same firmware and the network towers and carrier is the same, so the only thing that's different is the ROM and kernel. I can force it into LTE mode but then the 3G functions like phone calls and text messages wouldn't work because the network carrier doesn't have voLTE enabled properly yet.
It's because OnePlus cheats the signal strength reported in oos. AOSP based roms do not. AOSP roms tell the truth.

But how do you explain that my apps like Instagram run better on OOS than AOSP? It's like AOSP is reluctant to switch to LTE so I have to force it to switch.

Maybe cheating works

Then it's not cheating if OOS actually has better signal compared to AOSP?
Edited and updated OP
I've noticed signal is better as well but i chalk that up to cheating. As for apps performance, haven't noticed anything different.
One major gripe i have is OOS seems to jump to roaming towers and stay on them a lot more than AOSP. On my walk to work, for whatever reason on OOS, it jumps to USA towers every single time, which are across the ocean about 10km away, cutting off my data connection, and causing my music to stop. On AOSP, it always stayed on the Canadian towers in the same city within a few blocks of where i'm walking. I wish there was a way to manually specify what networks to connect to to prevent this from happening.
