About a month ago my phone randomly started rebooting out of nowhere. It was in my pocket and rebooted a few times and stayed on for a while. It kept getting worse and worse to the point where it would not even boot up. I updated the phone using Kies and it worked for a few hours, but then it went back to doing the same thing. The warranty already expired and I replaced the screen on the summer, so it doesn't have the sticker behind the battery.
Today I installed the original software using Odin and it turned on and booted and seemed to work fine for around 2 minutes, but then it restarted and kept rebooting again. I have also noticed that the menu at the beggining when you press Vol + and - and the power button is not the same one as factory. Please help me out here with any possible solutions and let me know if you need more details. Thanks.
What does the recovery say when you press the volume keys and power button? Have you rooted it since you Odin'd back to stock?
Sounds similar to others who have had the power button go bad on them, search the general section and you can read up on that issue. Since you were able to replace the screen it shouldn't be a problem for you to replace the button actuator too!

Yeah I researched and tested the phone and the power button seems to be the issue. When I put the battery in the phone, it automatically turns on, so I guess it needs to be replaced. I will look into replacing it. Thanks. If you know how to do it, please help me out.
I'm having this issue too but i cleaned the power button with a straw(Capri sun)..i just made it pointy and cleaned around....been working fine for a whole day. I avoid pressing it so i use volume to wake phone up. I hope it helps, i was all crazy about my phone like 2 days ago because i didn't know what was the problem. If anything PM me.

Quite a few members here have used that service so yes it's safe. I wasn't happy with the amount of time it took, but it's a good service otherwise.
Troubleshooting Advice
Have similar issues with sensitivity and powering off. Are there steps to take to make sure it is not failure of any other type?
Hi guys,
My Note 2's power button suddenly death. I want to bring that phone to service but before it i want to back-up and wipe all my phone data.
Can i turn on my phone without powerbutton? Is there anyway to do this?
PS: Sorry for my poor English
No, I don't think so. You will need the power button, but maybe there is someway like an expert can do it? IDK.
Have a look at this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128581
It's possible that you need to try different things because this link doesn't deal with Samsung device The purpose is to go into the donwload mode and cancel with Vol down to reboot the phone normally.

It will be a good idea to enter download mode to reboot. BUT, the problem will be: How should you enter download mode without the power button.

I opened up my phone and I fixed my power button. The phone's broken part is that:
http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-2-II-N7100-i317-i605-L900-Power-Button-Connector-Flex-Cable-/00/s/MTYwMFgxNjAw/z/7w4AAMXQySpRSpbL/$T2eC16hHJGoE9nuQhoiDBRSpbKofjQ~~60_35.JPG
There was a very small piece on that part, but it was not the right place. I put it right place and my power button came back to life.
But i think it is a temporary solution, i should buy that part from somewhere.
And still we don't have answer that question: How can we turn on phone without press power button.

This happened to me Today. After a lot of browsing, I was unable to find any working solution. (I have an USB Jig but it was not with me).
By mistake, I did the following and it seems to work: plugged the phone and while it started to display the battery (before it shows the %age of green battery thinghy) I quickly pulled the cable out.
This jump-started it and it turned on
good luck.
I've searched all the keywords I can think of to no avail.
I just bought a T899. It powers on and I can hear the "drip" noises when I touch the screen. The LCD does not light up nor do the soft keys. I was able to boot into recovery and root through Odin3 to "cwm6-root-note2." Odin3 said successful. I've looked for a remote viewing app to try to "see" what is going on onscreen. The ones I've found must be installed on the phone before use.
Are there any apps that can be pushed to my phone number or through USB to this phone that can help me troubleshoot this problem? Or am I just looking at a new LCD? I've taken it apart and everything looks connected inside. It will ring and take calls, just no LCD or soft key lights.
I got it dirt cheap so a replacement LCD will let me still make some money reselling this, but I want to exhaust all options before I go that route.
I'm looking for either a known problem with these or a way to remotely view the screen to flash a new rom to see if that's the problem. I'm new to this phone but have flashed and rooted several other models of Samsung phones.
Thank you for reading...

I was lucky to get download mode with no screen. I did flash CMW and connected to Odin. I'm guessing I'll just need to get a new LCD. I was hoping I could troubleshoot with Odin or push a remote screen view app onto the phone. I was hoping for a cheaper fix. I'll just order the new LCD I guess.

What preceded the 'black screen?'
I assume you're Rooted.
Can you get into Recovery?
To get into Recovery:
Power down device.
Don't turn on
Press Power & Vol up buttons at same time
Release when device vibrates and you see Blue Recovery booting words in left upper corner.
Wipe cache, dalvik cache and boot.
If that doesn't work,
Flash Nandroid backup
If you don't have a Nandroid backup, Factory Reset, wipe cache & dakvik cache
If that doesn't work,
Go to ODIN/Download mode, and install Samsung Stock Firmware via ODIN.

What preceded the black screen?
What were the events leading to the black screen?
Installing something, trying something new, jumping into a pool forgetting the deviceuisuin youropocket, stuff like that.. The info can help determine what is going on.
You're not rooted is ok.
The fact that some stuff is working is good.
After you answer the above, you can:
Power down phone.
Make sure the battery has at least 50% charge.
If you can't see the stats and think you may be low on juice, pluguin the device for an hour andlet charge.
After you are charged, you're going to go into the he stock recovery
By doing the following:
Power down device
Press Power & Vol up buttons at same time.
Release buttons when you see the blue words in upper left corner of screen and feel the Vibrate.
Using the volume buttons, scroll up or down to Factory Reset
Press Power button to confirm
Let the screen go through its stuff
Then you will choose reboot and enter it with the Power button.
It'll take 15-20 minutes sometimes, so just wait and see if you're device boots.
If the above fails to boot your device successfully, you'll have to ODIN Samsung Stock Firmware via your pc.

Ohhh.....
Hold off on the above instructions.
Do you have another battery you can try?
Or a friend whose battery you can try?
Edit:
But you can hear and adjust the volume, it's just the screen is black.
That would lead me to believe the battery is good.
Hopefully there is no internal damage form a bad car charger, etc.
Just thinking out loud.
Perhaps try the Recovery steps above after charging the battery.

If you attempted to get into stock recovery following the proper procedure without success, I'd try one more time.
If failure repeats, try to boot the device into ODIN/Download mode by:
Power down device
Don't power up
Press Power & Vol DOWN buttons this time.
Hold the buttons until the device boots into ODIN mode, usually just a few seconds.
Let me know.

I'm not 100% ccertain, but it appears your screen is shot. May not be the screen itself, but the circuitry that lights the screen.
How that happened I'm not 100% certain, but it would appear that it has something to do with car charging the device.
I went through as much troubleshooting as I know, but without the display, I don't know how to get into Recovery or ODIN, which most likely is a moot point because the issue is most likely not software related, but hardware related.
Hopefully I'm wrong
Just a heads up...when you use a car charger to charge your phone its highly recommended to unplug it as soon as its charged. I believe thats what caused your problem.

As I mentioned, I'm not sure it's the digitizer assembly that is bad or the circuitry that operates the digitizer screen assembly or both.
I'd say a digitizer/screen assembly replacement with Samsung OEM parts, including labor may be approx. $175 give or take a few bucks. Would have to check.
The reputable installer would have to specify that you won't be charged if the replacement doesn't work out. Which is obvious anyway.
I'd go to a place in person, and wait for it to be done, if that's possible in your area.
I'd also just say that my screen just stopped working. Let him determine what's up, before be he does anything.
On the other hand, maybe let the tech knows what you think the cause of the issue is, although no one is 100%. Yeah, just tell him what happened.
You plugged the phone into a car charger overnight, and in the am, the screen didn't illuminate.
Maybe it's not the screen and something more simple, maybe.
The tech would also be able to troubleshoot the device more effectively.

This might be a silly thought, but I had a similar issue once (with my S3, not my Note2), and it was because there was something sticky around/under the home button. So when I would do a single press, it would stick and think I did a long press, which would bring up the menu. In my case, I thought it was a software problem too but it turned out to be a hardware problem. To fix it, I turned it off, removed the battery, and disassembled until I had clear access to both sides of the home button. I did NOT remove the home button or the ribbon cable, but I did clean all areas on and around the home button with alcohol. Let it dry & put it back together & it worked like normal.
My kids are very sticky sometimes lol. I no longer let them play with my devices until their hands are free of any crud. I have no idea what it was they got on my button (or it could have been something from work since my phone was in my apron pocket)... but the point is it's very easy to get something sticky down in there and not realize it, and a good cleaning can go a long way
The buttons and softkeys are controlled by the firmware on the board and completely different from any ROM firmware you could flash. I think it is safe to say that it is 99.999999% likely a hardware fault.
In the unlikely event that it is that 0.0000001% chance, your best bet is to completely wipe /system, /data, /cache, and /dalvik, then Odin back to stock to see if that corrects it.
If it doesn't, I'd look at taking it to a repair UNLESS the place you got it from that refurbed it has a warranty on it.

I agree that it could be a rom that has the keys remapped, as that was my first thought (Hello DN3 lol, love me some DN3, but I chose against key remapping), however the OP said the home button was working as expected for a while, and then it started to display long-press behavior on every press. In that case, I'd recommend inspecting and/or cleaning the home button. It's unbelievably easy to get junk in those tiny crevices.
But yeah he could try wiping everything first and see if that fixes it. Wouldn't hurt.
