So currently I am running LiquidSmooth 3.2 Nightly 9-21 and I found out there was an update for Stock Rom from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4. So Should I update to 4.4.4 and if so is there a method to do so considering I am rooted at 4.4.2?
Though my plan is to update to 4.4.4 and then return to my root and the rom. What are your thoughts? Should I stay with that I have or update to 4.4.4 and if so, how?
If you're going back to the same ROM you might as well just stay there unless you want to try it

Do you think updating to 4.4.4 make a difference tho? Will anything change?
What do you want to compare it to? Touchwiz or aosp? If you're looking for it to improve or add to your experience on liquidsmooth, it won't
Nothing to my baseband or anything? If not then I might as well stay. Thanks dude
Well baseband is newer but you can just flash that separately
Unless you plan on doing the stock thing and being an average Joe, flash the NH7 modem and stay at 4.4.2.
What is NH7 modem? Noob status

You can Google on what the modem/baseband does. And it won't mess with your firmware.
what the major benefits of the 4.4.4 update? Better reception with the new modems? UI changes? My understanding of the 4.4.3 to 4.4.4 update was to stop exploit used by TowelRoot, but I don't recall what the 4.4.2 to 4.4.3 update involved.

There was no 4.4.3. We went from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4.
My data speeds are alot faster. No dropped signal. Better LTE speeds.
UI is the same.

Just a few toggles changed a little bit if you really look at it.. And feels faster and smoother to me too, no more of those annoying animation stutters that plagued 4.4.2
So How do I update?

Get the 4.4.4 firmware from sammobile.com, DL Odin 3.07 (or 3.09) onto your computer, unzip the firmware and place the tar.md5 file into the PDA slot in Odin, boot your phone into DL mode, connect your phone to computer and when Odin says your phone is added, press start. Once your phone boots back up (or Odin says "passed") you are done

Quick question im considering jumping ship from my old 4.3 bootloader to 4.4 via oden. Any reason to go to current version rather stay?
I've gotten better battery life and a snappier processor on Kit Kat. I'm currently running Jedi Elite with Compulsion Kernel.

Better features comes in KitKat, for me i would go for KitKat you wont regret it.
I guess the only reason why i haven't made the jump to 4.4 bootloader is due to not being able go back to 4.3 custom roms. That's why im trying to see if it worth it or not.
This looks like a thread to ask my question how do I know for sure my bootloader is 4.4 ?

If you performed a full flash, then your modem will be updated as well. The baseband is your modem. If it says nb4, it has been updated.

I'm actually an AT&T N3 user, but about to get a tmobile and just change my apn's because of the locked bootloader situation with kitkat, but is there documentation on why its currently impossible to downgrade the bootloader from 4.4.2 to 4.3? Not sure if it was ever explained, all I know is once you move to official 4.4 in stock with no root or OTA it changes the bootloader. The only answer I gotten about going to 4.3 on a 4.4 BL is that any 4.3 roms are not compatible with 4.4 BL. I know it won't allow you to downgrade via odin, but not sure why it wont work with custom recovery and rom. Hopefully we will get that functionally soon. Thats why im so stubborn on keeping 4.3 BL.
Hi All,
I just recently returned to my trusty T999 Galaxy S3 and was wondering what modem I should update to? I just flashed CM11 and everything appears to be working properly except it says 3G in the status bar and not H+ (even though I'm in an HSPA/LTE area).
Currently I am on modem T999UVDLJA, which I believe is a 4.1.1 modem. Should I update to a 4.3 modem?(if so which one?) or stick with the 4.1.1 modem? I've read that once you update to a 4.3 modem you can't go back to 4.1 modems? Is that true?
All recommendations are welcome.
Thanks!
Once on 4.3 firmware you cannot use older modems. If on pre 4.3 firmware you can try the 4.3 one and go back if needed.
First, though, start a large download using mobile data. Go to settings, about device, status, network type. This will tell you your true connection type.
If hspa is not working, its much more likely to be a tower issue than a problem with the modem. Still, it doesnt hurt to try the other modems though!
LJA is very old, you need to update it so you can get H+ try the latest modem

Hi Doc,
You are correct, once i start doing a "large download" the data changes to H+ up top, so HSPA is working. Now with regards to pre 4.3 modems not working, I am running CM11 which is 4.4.4 and am running the old UVDLJA modem. In theory is this not supposed to work?
What modems are everyone using right now with the 4.4 ROMS?
Doesn't matter what rom you are on. Its the base firmware. If you have updated to 4.3 firmware, you must use the same or newer modem as the firmware build.
If running non touchwiz kk, as I understand it you can do so on older firmware. To run a touchwiz kk rom though, you must be on 4.3 firmware and thus a 4.3 modem.
You are using a non touchwiz rom, so as long as you are not updated to the 4.3 firmware, you can run the LJA modem without issue. Once you update to 4.3, you will have to use the 4.3 modem.

In terminal emulator, enter this:
getprop ro.bootloader
What it returns is your base firmware build.

Hi All,
I have S3 T999v – Wind variant running on stock 4.4.2 , overall I hate this kitkat experience...
My issue is whenever I try to flash custom recovery TWRP (2.7.1.0 or older), it installs but when I try to take backup it shows nothing to take backup of (no System , no EFS etc....). When I try rebooting it gives error “NO OS Found” I am able to proceed anyways and it starts up phone fine.
Can anyone tell me what could be the issue here??? I wanna downgarde to either stock 4.3 or to install custom liquid smooth 4.4.4. but would prefer to take a back up just in case.
BTW my phone is rooted , rooted it with towel root.
Also can I flash T999 (t-mobile) based recoveries onto my T999v ?
Would appreciate your help :good:.
Thanks
I recommend using d2tmo recoveries over d2can. More roms will be flashable. And you can use any rom here in our forums.
For now, try using either cwm or philz recovery. Youre experiencing a known issue that I believe is related to the hardware revision. I keep hoping to attempt a fix, but just havent had time yet. But for now, one of the other recoveries should work for you.

Knox. They prevent any downgrading to protect against tampering with Knox secure containers. You can't downgrade anymore, period. Anything beyond 4.3 or with Knox will be this way from now on.

Yeah just like doc said, if you're on 4.3 firmware you can't downgrade firmware to 4.1.2, or if you're on 4.4.2 you can't downgrade to 4.3 or 4.1.2.. Anything lower than your current firmware is a no.. You can only flash equal or newer firmware
I have a rooted S4 running GPE 5.0.1. Since updating about 2 weeks ago it seems my signal strength isn't as strong as it was with my old ROM (CarbonRom 4.4.4) and I'm experiencing complete signal dropouts from time to time.
This got me thinking about my modem. Does it need to be updated? WiFi is working fine. My last official OTA was from T-Mobile about a year ago when they took the phone to 4.2.2. My baseband is M919UVUAMDL and poking around various XDA sees forum threads discussing "NK2" and "NK4" modems. Tmo's website lists M919UVUFNK2 as the latest baseband so my modem is out of date? I looked for a Tmo version of the just "NK2" modem and didn't find anything that wasn't a full ROM install. Just want to update my modem and keep Lollipop 5.0.X Is there a modem update I should flash?
Any thoughts and help would be appreciated.

At the moment I have not seen a flashable zip for nk2, Im on official cm12 android 5.0.2 and just updated my modem, here is what I did, I download the full firmware , extracted it with winrar, and used Odin 3.0.7 to flash the modem.bin and non-hlos.bin

Correct me if something has changed; but doesn't flashing an up to date non-hlos still randomly cause complete signal drop on devices that are not running the updated bootloader that came with 4.4?
Or rather; at least until securestorage is disabled in build.prop
Also, you will most likely have to flash them 2x with odin.
First time uncheck the auto restart box, and manually power cycle back into download mode.
Second time leave the auto restart checked.

Well, I say use v3.0.7 because that is the version that worked for me, your results may vary, also some say that the non-hlos.bin refers to a separate modem for lte only, others say it refers to the WiFi driver, now, you don't have to flash it of you feel it has no benefit to you, I only did because this phone is the first one I've used that has the non-hlos.bin,, so I flashed it.

Since it is possible to flash the modem (via modem.bin) as well as flashing the lte modem/or WiFi driver (via non-hlos.bin) - then is it also possible to flash the bootloader itself on the Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919) if it is running Android 4.4.4 (M919UVUFNK2)? Let me ask this: if it's possible to make a flashable zip to flash the bootloader to a higher version (like the bootloader from Android 4.4.4-M919UVUFNK2) then is it also possible to make a flashable zip to flash the bootloader to a lower version (like the bootloader from Android 4.2.2.-M919UVUAMDL)?
I believe I'm in the same boat. I tried out AICP ROM 5.0.2 and my signal dropped out most of the entire time and I could rarely send or receive calls/texts when it showed that I had signal. I now have restored my backup of AICP 4.4.4 and so far it seems to be working correctly. But a flashable zip would be highly appreciated if someone could do it. I would try myself but internet is extremely slow and I'm afraid I would make a mistake and brick phones other than mine.

After downgrading the modem, I always recommend reflashing the latest rom from sammobile.com in Odin followed by a full wipe in stock recovery.
