Quick question im considering jumping ship from my old 4.3 bootloader to 4.4 via oden. Any reason to go to current version rather stay?
I've gotten better battery life and a snappier processor on Kit Kat. I'm currently running Jedi Elite with Compulsion Kernel.
sent from my T~ Mobile Galaxy Note 3
Better features comes in KitKat, for me i would go for KitKat you wont regret it.
I guess the only reason why i haven't made the jump to 4.4 bootloader is due to not being able go back to 4.3 custom roms. That's why im trying to see if it worth it or not.
This looks like a thread to ask my question how do I know for sure my bootloader is 4.4 ?

Two ways,
.
1) go to settings > about phone > baseband
2) go to settings > about phone > Android Version

If you performed a full flash, then your modem will be updated as well. The baseband is your modem. If it says nb4, it has been updated.

I'm actually an AT&T N3 user, but about to get a tmobile and just change my apn's because of the locked bootloader situation with kitkat, but is there documentation on why its currently impossible to downgrade the bootloader from 4.4.2 to 4.3? Ran a search but maybe didnt use the right terms. fuse 3 issue?

Not sure if it was ever explained, all I know is once you move to official 4.4 in stock with no root or OTA it changes the bootloader. The only answer I gotten about going to 4.3 on a 4.4 BL is that any 4.3 roms are not compatible with 4.4 BL. I know it won't allow you to downgrade via odin, but not sure why it wont work with custom recovery and rom. Hopefully we will get that functionally soon. Thats why im so stubborn on keeping 4.3 BL.

hi i have a note 2 sgh-I317m and im currently on CleanRom 5.0
ive been looking at the new Ditto rom for note 2 and i want to switch, but is there a certain process i have to go through to switch? or can i just upgrade on top of cleanrom atm?
You should follow the op's (developer) instructions..Some of these 4.3 roms want you to flash a file for the 4.3 bootloader...I'd read the instructions very carefully and read as many post as you can because more then usual you'll face the same issues they had...
good luck

If your on 4.1.2 you will need to either flash the att I317 leak if your on att it's on post 226 in the general forum att 4.3 leak or flash a 4.3 bootloader as per the ops instruction in the rom you want. Both use Odin. If you pick the first option it will wipe your device and make you fully stock. So it will require you to root again and flash twrp. The up side it's the most stable way. The second uses Odin to flash. Some have reported problems. Read through the first few pages of the rom to see the issues.

OTA will only work with a stock 3e recovery...
But taking a factory update over the top of a rooted rom is not a good idea...
Backups are done with a custom recovery...and yes...you need to start reading and learning the proper steps or you will end up making a paper weight..... g

No just flash 4.3 over top of the rom your using now no need to do all that. Just make sure to read flashing instructions carefully though as others have stated
I bought this phone for a family member. I did not read the forums ahead of time , but have learned that being on 4.3 is pretty crappy because you cant downgrade. i odined a root image of 4.3 found in the forums. I installed a recovery. I tried to upgrade to 4.2.2 cm11 and it failed. am i not able to install any roms on this phone at all, because of the knox 4.3 restrictions?

No. Check to make sure you have latest recovery, or try a different one.. Why would you want to install 4.2.2 when there is KitKat 4.4.2?

Afaik, cm still never updated their updater-scripts to include NC2 firmware in the asserts. Youll need to manually edit it in.

Hi All,
I just recently returned to my trusty T999 Galaxy S3 and was wondering what modem I should update to? I just flashed CM11 and everything appears to be working properly except it says 3G in the status bar and not H+ (even though I'm in an HSPA/LTE area).
Currently I am on modem T999UVDLJA, which I believe is a 4.1.1 modem. Should I update to a 4.3 modem?(if so which one?) or stick with the 4.1.1 modem? I've read that once you update to a 4.3 modem you can't go back to 4.1 modems? Is that true?
All recommendations are welcome.
Thanks!
Once on 4.3 firmware you cannot use older modems. If on pre 4.3 firmware you can try the 4.3 one and go back if needed.
First, though, start a large download using mobile data. Go to settings, about device, status, network type. This will tell you your true connection type.
If hspa is not working, its much more likely to be a tower issue than a problem with the modem. Still, it doesnt hurt to try the other modems though!
LJA is very old, you need to update it so you can get H+ try the latest modem

Hi Doc,
You are correct, once i start doing a "large download" the data changes to H+ up top, so HSPA is working. Now with regards to pre 4.3 modems not working, I am running CM11 which is 4.4.4 and am running the old UVDLJA modem. In theory is this not supposed to work?
What modems are everyone using right now with the 4.4 ROMS?
Doesn't matter what rom you are on. Its the base firmware. If you have updated to 4.3 firmware, you must use the same or newer modem as the firmware build.
If running non touchwiz kk, as I understand it you can do so on older firmware. To run a touchwiz kk rom though, you must be on 4.3 firmware and thus a 4.3 modem.
You are using a non touchwiz rom, so as long as you are not updated to the 4.3 firmware, you can run the LJA modem without issue. Once you update to 4.3, you will have to use the 4.3 modem.

Im sure the app serio22 mentioned will work fine, but I always tell people to do this as ive learned you cant always trust what an app or gui tells you!
In terminal emulator, enter this:
getprop ro.bootloader
What it returns is your base firmware build.

That's what I use to tell people as well but they were always confused on how to use it and read the info so I just started mentioning that app instead.. I'm not sure if it works on CM come to think of it. What I like about it is that it gives you tons of info, even how many times you've plugged into the headset jack, and charger! Lol

I want to install and experience with more roms, especially the lollipop nightlies. but they require an updated bootloader! Otherwise, my phone doesnt read the sim card. i have read so many threads on how to update the bootloader and modem/firmware, but half of the threads i read result in many people bricking their device! How do i update the bootloader properly? that is, without bricking my phone of course! should i do incremental updates? or jump from lk3 to the latest one? im lost on what to do, like i said so many people got bricked. can anyone help me out? it would be greatly appreciated!
i used this to get to NE4 with no problems.

Is your phone sim unlocked? If it isn't, you could flash back to a stock AT&T 4.1.1 ROM, unlock, and run OTA updates until your have the latest ROM on your phone. This approach requires more time but it is the simplest and least risky in my opinion.
So basically you're saying to flash back to unrooted stock. And then keep using att updates until I get to the latest one, and then I should be on ne4 automatically?? Not sure if I'm understanding this correctly.

Yes, flash back to stock and keep running ota until you hit the latest release.
If you have warranty left on your phone, updating, rooting, and loading a custom recovery will change the warranty bit from 0 to 1 which voids the remaining warranty.

K will do when chance the chance. Btw. Isn't there a requirement to not go past a certain firmware if I wanted to revert back to stock or else it'll brick? I thought it was if I go past 4.3. Any ideas?

You will have no choice but to flash to 4.4.2 bootloader and modem if you want to run the latest d2lte ROMs.
True, once you are on 4.3 or higher bootloader, you cannot go back to stock 4.1.1.

Some kk roms will run on a 4.1.1 bootloader while others will not. I know some of the newer cm11 roms will work but you will not have any signal with older modems and bootloaders.

i had read of some people have to use ktoonz kernel to get wifi , but that is usually in the OP.
thank you once again @audit13 for coming to the rescue. i am now M8 and losing what little i747 now-how i had. lmao.

So since I'm on lk3.. I should still be able to flash black to 4.1.1 stock via Odin and then use the ota right? Or should I flash back to 4.3. Which one is the safe option? Im thinking about using the ota option mentioned earlier in this thread.

What bootloader version do you have? How did you upgrade to Lollipop 5.1.1, did you flash txdbs's OB7 bootloader / OG5 ROM combo before flashing Hybrid? You can use Galaxy Tools or Synapse to see which bootloader you're on.
If you flashed the OG5 tar or took an OTA to 5.1.1, then there is no way back to 4.4 KK.

Whoops, synapse won't work unless you have a kernel that supports it. Galaxy Tools is by idone and is no longer in the Play store, so you would have to Google search it. Edit: Phone Info Samsung in the Play store will tell you which bootloader you're on.
How did you upgrade to 5.1.1? Unless you specifically flashed txdbs's OB7 bootloader/OG5 ROM (in the Android Development section), chances are very low that you are on an OB7 bootloader or earlier, which means you are stuck on Lollipop.
