Hello,
I got an s4 mini about a month or two ago and I had been having a lot of issues. at first I couldn't send mms (noticed this day 1 with the phone) then later on my bluetooth stopped working. I rooted the phone, this is when i lost bluetooth, then about a week later i got the play store connection error. At the time i was using superbeam and apps from other sources as a work around but then adaway was telling me it couldn't reach any sources and i couldn't navigate past google on the internet. This is when I decided to just update my firmware, this solved my internet and playstore connection problem and even mms was working for the first time!(never checked about bluetooth, still using beam). But I still wanted root access for adaway so i followed this guide to install CWM and CM11.

I was successful and everything is still working well, i can make calls and texts, but for some reason my battery is draining in about half the time it was before, When i look at my locksreen on the bottom most of the time it says "emergency calls only (ROGERS)". Looking at the battery under setting cell standby is right at the top of the list usually at about 34% consumption with 69% time without a signal. So obviously this is where the battery drain is coming from, the weird part is if i go to make a call or send a text or something it picks the signal up as if it had always been there..? I have great cell coverage but the phone is pretending i don't 70% of the time.
does anyone know whats going on with my phone?
Sorry for the long story but I am just looking for some help on this confusing issue, the xd forums seems pretty friendly, please prove me right!

ok....i had the 6.5 update that was accidently leaked out on my phone. things i experienced with it.
battery life was short
keyboard pops up when new txt is rcvd - very annoying
constant erros about data connection
backlight stays on for a long time when phone is not used
very bad lag
so...tmobile finally put the actual release out on their site about the update. i installed that yesterday. phone seems fine and not doing any of the above.
but i noticed that i am unable to get certain apps that i use to have on there to work. it would look like it is starting up but then it doesn't.
i really want to use these apps on my phone. does anyone know why i am unable to?

any help? ..........................
Last I saw the T-Mobile update was exactly the same as the leaked one... So the problems you are experiencing are odd???? I still have the leaked Rom and it works fine without the issues you describe. The Only time my battery life is shortened is when using the internet features and/or leave the screen on... for example I left wifi sharing on the other day... I was at 50% 2 hours later... so I turned it off, 10 hours later I was at 30% not too bad!

Yes I believe it's been confirmed that the "leaked" T-mo upgrade ROM was bit-for-bit identical to the final (official) release, verified by matching checksums.
However, when the upgrade was first making the rounds here, there were numerous reports of odd issues that would pop up for people after the initial flashing of the ROM...and the solution was just to re-flash it again. Amazingly, doing a 2nd flash of the same ROM seemed to clear up quite a few of the oddball problems that people were seeing.
I'm afraid though I don't have any idea why those last 2 apps aren't working for you following the upgrade...?
Woah, warning about WMLongLife...
It F*CKED up my 3G connection bad. It wouldn't automatically switch to 3G when I was coming into a 3G area from a GPRS/EDGE area and it was almost impossible to get the original setting back. I'd stay far away from that app if I was you.
The other app, I'm not familiar with. Where is the original post of that?
I am new to android devices and i bought an HTC desire.
I have the device for about 2 weeks now and I am noticing more and more that it gives me no service in areas where the network should be perfect,i have to restart the device to get service again.is anyone facing a similar issue?
i got that just yesterday.. wasn't sure why.. I restarted the phone and Service came back.. just thought it was an oddity until you posted. how weird.
Happens to me when I'll be indoors (where there's 0 reception) and I go outside again, the phone doesn't always lock onto a network for whatever reason. Quick way around instead of restarting the phone is to enable Flight Mode (settings > wireless > flight mode) and disable it again to turn on the phone radio.
i noticed that also, when i use an elevator it sometimes does not get the network after i go out.this is becoming an issue for me because i have to keep checking if the phone is working or not.
thanks for the tip ,makes the process easier
You could also try rooting your phone and then flashing a different compatible radio rom version as this could improve certain conditions such as GPS strength, Reception, Battery life, Wi-Fi, etc.

I have a stock Desire locked in Vodafone, just did the last Firmware over the air Update and the radio updated from the worst version 5.0.0.something to 6.0.0.02 (I think, not the latest, the one before that).
Reception improoved, not by much, but to some extent. But now it prefferes to jump faster to GPRS data than before. So when I move around the house some people might get a busy tone because weather or mail is updating, and THIS IS FRUSTRATING ...
I tried from the *#*#info#*#* menu to limit it to GSM (PRL) but it made no difference.
Also it gets hot, 10 minutes of internet browsing through wi-fi/3g gets it up to 35 37Celsius and that is HOT ... Is this normal ?
Yeah - I noticed this over the weekend too.
Not for calls, but just for data.
I think it might be to do with Juice Defender.
I actually did a factory reset, just to get my data to work again.
Same problem occurred this morning, so I binned Juice Defender, and it worked immediately afterwards.
FWIW, mines is a TMob Desire...

Actually I did not want to root it since rumors have it that there will be an update on the 23rd of this month to Froyo
I was using a different Radio version but have not flashed back to the original stock version (04.00.05.11) already, after browsing for 10 mins or so, the battery temp rises to a max of 29.5 degrees celcius, which is more reasonable than 35-37 degrees celcius. Sticking with this version for now.
Having the same problem the data goes off all the time and i have to restart to get it back on. recently my phone has been getting hot after very little use.
I am rooted running froyo with the latest radio.
It happened to me today .I am on stock 2.2 , no root. I take the phone from pocket and try to call , its does not go . Now I look into phone and it says "No service " .What crap ? . Now restarted the phone and service is back .The Android is not stable enough still .Basic things like calling should be rock stable .
I have been having some major problems with my EVO regarding the data. If I use anything that is on the heavy side of bandwidth, like downloading a file from android marketplace, surfing the web, watching sprint tv, using the GPS, etc...the data will just time out for about 3 min at a time. For instance if I am downloading a 5mb app from android marketplace, it will maybe download a megabyte, then it will just stop downloading. If you look at the 3G symbol at the top, it will be white, but only the upstream indicator will be on. I can then open any other internet application on the phone, and nothing will work. It usually lasts for about 3 minutes at a time and happens fairly regularly. It will end up taking me 15-20 min to download a 5mb file from the marketplace. Same thing if I browse a bandwidth heavy site like digg.com. It will just time out after a while and it will just show the upstream indicator as solid and not do anything in any program.
This problem is not location dependent. I have this issue at my apartment, at work, at my friend's house, at the Sprint store...anywhere.
In chronological order, this is what I have done to troubleshoot/fix the problem:
First noticed problem
Turned off phone/Turned back on
Rooted and installed custom version of 2.1 w/ Sense
Removed battery (power cycle)
Talk to Sprint cust care. They sent signal over that reactivated the phone (2x)
Did factory reset on phone and formatted SD card
Swapped phone at Sprint store with new one
So even after swapping my EVO with a new EVO from the Sprint store and not fooling with the phone at all, I am still having the same exact issue.
I am absolutely at wit's end with this and I have no idea what to do at this point.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Does this happen over wifi too, or only 3g?
------------------------------------------
This post brought to you by my EVO 4G, by XDA-Tapatalk, and by Swype.
Thats a good question. I dont have a wifi connection to try it on at home because I keep my wifi on 5ghz N. I will take it to a friend's house and try.
yeah good luck testing it with WIFI. I'd say my WIFI is about 10 times less reliable than 3G.
I have not been able to test with Wifi yet, but I just had one of my coworkers that has the same phone to replicate the issue on his phone. He is having the same exact problem.
We set our phones next to each other and downloaded Space Buster 3D Lite off the Android Marketplace. Mine crapped out about 2mb in and so did his. He wasnt able to surf or do anything else on his phone for a few minutes just like mine.
I'm wondering if this a network problem in our area or if there is a problem with the phone.
Also, I downloaded a continuous ping program and did 3,000 pings with no packet loss, so it seems to only happen with heavy data usage ie. saturating your bandwidth.
Either way, it makes me feel a lot better to see this problem happening with other people lol
dude... i was just about to post a thread on this. im tearing my hair out with this horrible horrible problem. tmobile was better and more consistent its ridiculous...
i'm having the exact same problems, and not only just this, but i'm sending and receiving texts hours and hours off... its just not instant. wheerever i am. and sometimes i'm sending a text and this data "blackout" happens. also when i'm receiving texts i can't send texts out at the same time.. the phone gives me sms errors and then the data timeouts for minutes.. i have to wait minutes to resend the texts or use data..
Well it turns out that my friend that got this phone too is having the same exact problem......
WTF is going on here? Can people test this on their phones? Just try downloading a large file (5mb+) off android marketplace 2-3 times and watch the download. See if it stops or says download paused. Then try surfing the web when this happens.
Including myself, thats 3/3 people that are having this problem that I know personally.

I have no issues downloading large files, maybe it is location based?
It appears the OTA update that was released today fixed the problem. I've been running Sprint TV for about 4 hours with no issues. Thank god...I was about to cancel my service over this.
I have a very weird problem on my S3 and I have looked everywhere and I can't figure out what's wrong.
I have a stock unrooted S3 on 4.4.2. Recently I took the phone overseas and had it unlocked, I don't know quite how the person unlocked it, but when I got it back it was having a lot of problems. All my Data was wiped, but still unrooted but showing many errors. I was having an error every time I opened my contacts saying android.process.acore has stopped. I was also having trouble getting signal with a local sim card, at the time I thought it was some setting I didn't know about or that it was the network that was messed up. Then when I got home I continued to have with my at&t network, always showing no signal and no data, when I did have signal it would cut out in a few min and when I got Data it was only 2g.
So what I did was install a stock rooted rom that I had been using before, this rom took care of a lot of the errors but wifi doesn't work on it, so I had to install a kernel which was verson 3.4.0-g2d4cae8 ktoonsez, this took care of the wifi problem.
Then I looked around a lot for reasons that my network wasn't working. One potential problem was APN, I checked that and mine was correct. There was also a problem listed with IMEI and that was fine on my phone too. Then I finally found that sometimes you can reinstal NV items and that can fix your network issues. So I found a site that had NV items to fix LTE and flashed that on my phone through odin. That actually took care of my network issue! I can get network now and get LTE, luckily saving my phone from being completely useless.
Now I have a completely diff issue and I don't know if I'm missing something similar to that to fix it.
What happens is that I constantly only have 1 signal bar, then when I start making a call or send a text I all of a sudden have 4 or 5 bars. So I have signal, but somehow its not registering properly. I would be okay with this considering my phone is at least letting me make calls even though it takes a bit longer to connect, but the problem is that it's been heating up a lot and the battery has been dying 3 times a day when it used to last an entire day. Looking up this problem I found that this problem is common when you have no signal. Also when I think when I am closer to a tower then my phone has 3 bars most of the time and the battery lasts longer, aka when I was in downtown Houston I only had to charge my phone once during the day as opposed to 2 times.
Anyone have any Idea how I might be able to fix this problem. My mom had her phone unlocked the same way but she is still on official stock rom with root, and is having the same problem, so I'm pretty sure it was the unlocking process and something similar to the NV items. Maybe I needed to install a whole NV items file instead of just the LTE segment? Sorry this was so long, and maybe rambling. Let me know if you guys need any more information.
Hello all, I have been using the d2spr for quite some time... without mobile. I have no service on the phone and have no problems using it as an esspresso device like my p5113 tab 2. On my tab two there was a thread about removing the cell from the device, which I will more than likely have to look up again for that device. Is this possible for this phone? Anyone have any experience removing cell from the phone. I have read that searching for signal reduces the battery life, and I have yet to try it on the phone. If anyone can give me any pointers on this would be great. Also if you know which files to delete would save me a crap load of time searching for it.... thanks in advance...

are you basically trying to use it as a galaxy player? (i.e. an android version of an ipod touch?) if so, ive just put mine into airplane mode and turned wifi on manually. It greatly improves battery life as its not using the cell radio.

not exactly I use it as a voip phone and remote control as well as play various games, though there is no service on it, it shows the mobile connection. With the tablet it was a wifi only tab so removing cellular feature from android really increased battery life. Though I was not sure if it would work the same on the d2spr... not quite sure where to start though so thought I would ask, but thanks for the alternative, I am not sure about using airplane and wifi together as I have not tried that before.

gotcha. well, if youre using strictly voip, then the airplane mode and then turning wifi back on separately will work very well. like i said, ive done that with other devices and it substantially increases the battery life. Give it a whirl, what can it hurt?
Just an update with the steps on what I did.. as well as the results. With rooted device I deleted the 3 folders telecom, telephone, and another that starts with a tele that I can not think of. They are located in system/priv-app folder on root of system. (Using root explorer) After that I reboot, and all is working fine with no cellular at all. I have been letting it sit just to see how long the battery lasts on standby. So far I am at 28 and a half hours... I still get notifications and wifi works smooth. In the battery section in settings it currently reads charge remaining 8 days. Anyone with no service like me might want to give it a try... if something does not work all you have to do is re-flash what ever rom you had and that will put the folders back. and install cellular on the phone again... I would say that is the number one battery drain of the phone next to the display...
Day seven of my battery test and So far it appears that without cellular on the d2 you can get up to 10 days of standby charge. I did not use the phone at all for anything but to check status. Also, If you notice the small change in the curve, it is because it downloaded updates. It was connected to the internet the entire time...
