FIXED: Samsung Browser nav bar screwed ... anyway to fix / reinstall? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi all,
I recently installed the Xposed module MinMinGuard, which is supposed to help remove ads in the browser, and even the "white space" that is where the ad was before it was blocked.
I activated and used it for a bit and enabled on all my apps, however after deciding to discontinue use and uninstalling, there's blank space at the top of many websites now that sticks on the page even when scrolling. It only goes away if I hit Menu, but returns on the next website I visit.
I've included 2 screenshots to show the space.
I tried tweaking / reinstalling / etc. MinMinGuard a few times, but it doesn't fix the issue.
TB only has 1 backup of the browser, and it's from after I installed the module. Is there any way to re-install the stock browser from another source? Stock rom or something?
I have tried to clear data / cache on the browser to no avail.
**EDIT #2: I might be completely wrong about this having to do with MinMinGuard.
Apparently if you have any app enabled in accessibility settings and quick controls on it will happen. I have Tasker enabled in accessibility, and just recently enabled it..
**EDIT #3: That fixed it! Disabled Tasker in accessibility settings and all is back to normal. Guess it's some weird bug in android that hasn't been fixed and has existed since 4.2.2.

could try restoring from nandroid backup if you have one. or go on line and look for stock browser apk download (?)
err on the side of kindness

Not sure if this would work but you could try deleting the stock browser apk from the system folder and re-installing the stock browser.

But how would I re-install after deleting the apk?

If you are rooted, you could find the relevant Browser under /system/apps and delete the apk. I use Root Explorer to delete system files.
You could find a stock-based browser such as srx, unzip it, find the Browser apk, copy it to your SDcard, open root explorer, find the Browser, and open the file to install it.
Have you tried installing other browsers such as Chrome or Dolphin? Do these browsers exhibit the same behaviour?

I have a feeling its not going to be an issue with the browser app itself. Xposed probably did something in CSC and/or possibly elsewhere.
I think the easiest solution will be to reflash your current rom or firmware.
I could be wrong though, so you may wish to try replacing the browser apk. Something else that may be worth trying would be to wipe dalvik cache from recovery.

I tested on Dolphin and it's unaffected. What's srx? Couldn't find that on Play.

Other browsers are not affected so I'm hoping I don't have to re-flash. I downloaded the stock NE4 rom and was planning on extracting the secbrowser.apk (or whatever it's named) from the rom and then installing it that way, but for some reason, there is no browser apk in the stock rom zip, which is baffling to me.
Wiping dalvik had no effect.

Stock Samsung firmware is packed differently from custom ROMs and this is why you don't see any apk files. SRX is a custom ROM.

Even the stock odex / deodexed roms (not firmware)? I downloaded the odexed from here:

It contained a ton of apks, but for some reason I couldn't locate the browser apk.

It may be called something else. In many custom ROMs, it's called browser.apk. Maybe Samsung or ATT renamed it.
Use Root Explorer and look in the system/app folder. The browser icon should appear next to the apk name.

Question - I'm on the stock rom (which installed via the NE4 firmware upgrade). I debloated it myself via TB.
If nothing else works, could I install the stock odexed / rooted NE4 rom in the development section over this? And if so, would I:
1) Need to wipe system beforehand (I would wipe cache / dalvik)
2) Would my disabled / debloated apps stay disabled / debloated? (for instance, I froze TouchWiz launcher in TB and use Nova).

Found it - secbrowser.apk - dunno why my keyword search didn't work before.
Anyway I uninstalled the browser and re-installed via Root Explorer from the stock rom. Also reverted changes in my CSC directory just in case.
No go - same problem exists. MinMinGuard must have modified something elsewhere. Damn.
**EDIT: Learned something about the issue. The blank space appears when I enter in a URL in the navigation bar and press enter to load it. Then the blank space appears on whatever page I have loaded. If I press Menu to show / hide the navigation bar, then the blank space goes away until I enter in another website.
It appears to have to do with the navigation bar - it's like the navigation bar disappears, but a black space takes it's place instead of shrinking / disappearing from view as I scroll down the page (note: I have the quick-controls enabled). When disabling quick-controls the problem ceases, but resumes upon re-enabling.
**EDIT #2: I might be completely wrong about this having to do with MinMinGuard. Found the issue elsewhere:
Here and here.

[HELP] My Youtube app disappeared!

I'm on a DeFroST 3.0b ROM, I think it was because I factory reset my phone. Now there isn't any Youtube app and I can't download it from the market.
Any ideas?
Bump......
re-install rom after another wipe, check if youtube app is in fact included with the rom.
failing above, flash a different rom.
Yep, Youtube is restored after re-installing the ROM, but it's *horror* classified as a "Downloaded app" which means it'll be permenantly deleted upon factory reseting.
Not necessarily. There are a few Apps in the Downloaded section of Leedroid 1.9a (what I'm using) there were included in the ROM. I think the creator of your ROM has simply done that so you can choose to uninstall YouTube, should you so wish. Must be something to do with the APK's location inside the .zip file. I don't know enough about the system structure to say with any conviction, though.

Stock (ec05) and kernels

So, I've been looking at kernels to flash (stock ec05) and reading around on the different kernels, and I'm wondering if any of them work with a stock (rooted) rom. I used the ReRFS to get back to stock.
I've tried the syndicate kernel and got an infinite boot loop (tried several times)... Was barely able to get back.
I don't mind the stock interface (touchwiz), I would just like to be able to get the processor to 1.2ghz. Do any of the kernels work well with stock?
[edit] The only thing keeping me from staying on the custom roms is they all FC when I try to edit a contacts ringtone. I've tried pushing myfiles.apk (several myfiles.apk's from multiple sources), but it won't install. But like I said, I really don't mind the stock interface anyway.

Yes, Genocide. Also for your boot animation problem you pm'd me about, use this boot cleaner to get rid of the stock animation, then you can flash a custom boot animation.

Yea, I actually got the PM problem resolved last night. A mix of restores got me past the boot and I was able to then transfer the stock rom again.

I'm good with the simple stuff after blowing my phone up many times starting out. Just trying to give back to the community that helped me. Enjoy.
So it looks like I need to use the older cwm2 to use this kernel?
[edit] just in case someone else is wondering this as well. Use the older oneclickroot 2.5.5 if you're on stock. There's a bug (that is known) if you're on a stock that is not deodexed and uses ext4. Since the older cwm doesn't convert to ext4 we're good to go

I too am in the same situation. Can you post the steps with links?
As I understand it, the steps are:
1) Root, run clockworkmod
2) Run boot cleaner
3) Flash custom boot animation
4) Flash custom kernel
Is that right?
So, I know how to do all the steps except #3. Where can I find a custom boot animation? Please help!

Switch 3 and 4. Flash the custom kernel then the boot ani. There are also custom shutdown ani's out there too. Use CWM 2.5.5.
i would use ec05 plus ext4 version and genocide, winning combo..

I tried several, but every rom I've tried I get FC when trying to assign a contact it's own ringtone, and that's something I use ALOT of. Even tried pushing myfiles.apk
So, until there's a rom that I can do that with, I'll be sticking with stock and genocide

I've tried, Ace, syndicate, another one that I can't remember the name of.
I did the normal process. Wipe factory 3x, then wipe cache 3x, and wipe dalv cache 3x, and install (tried a few times wiping dalv cache after the install, which is what we did on the heroc, as well)
Impaler told me to push myfiles.apk but it won't install. Tried the myfiles.apk from multiple rom sources.

Hmm...yeah, you copy myfiles.apk to system\app directory and reboot. It will self-install. Did you try the ROMs right after flashing or after restoring data?

Ah, I'll try putting it there. I've installed each of them after going back to stock first.
[edit] the only other issue I had was with USB mass storage, which doesn't matter now that I'm just transferring via wifi
I'll post results here in a bit
So when trying to move the file to system/app it tells me I don't have permission. (but i am rooted, and I know this because OC widget requested and was granted SU)
I've tried 2 different file browsing apps, and even tried copying it directly there via wifi. None of which will let me copy the myfiles.apk into system/app

What are you using to move it? Root explorer automatically makes it read/write. You can use ES File Explorer from the market but you have to go into settings and enable root and write functions.

That's the app I use. Didn't know about the setting... Just moved the file there and rebooting. I really hope this allows me to change individual ringtones. If so, then I have no reason to stay with stock =)
Well, myfiles.apk is now in system/app and I rebooted the phone (also tried a shutdown), but still no luck. I still get a FC when assigning an individual ringtone :/
Buuut, I may be able to assign ringtones from the music player, and not the edit contact page. I'll try that
[edit] Yup, I moved my ringtones into my Music folder, and am able to assign a specific contact's ringtone via the music player

Is the FC in myfiles.apk? If so try clearing data in it. But either way at least you got it working.

[Q] Stock 4.2 camera is not working!

Today I read a little guide from youmobile, about installing the new camera in android 4.2. (cant post link since im new)
I did everything except I forgot to backup first. Now everytime i start up the phone, open camera or open gallery it comes "Gallery has crashed".
Anyone knows what I might have done wrong? I used ROM Manager -> Boot into clockwordmod recovery -> flash zip -> and i chose the zip.
The camera is working trough apps like Snapchat, but not trough the stock app.
I could also use the stock 4.1.2 gallery and camera .apk so I atleast can get back my camera.
I am running on 4.1.2 takju nexus, with Air Kernel 3.0.46.
Please help.

try this zip. it's fixed so that everything should work.

if you still get crashes, you may want to reflash your Rom (without wiping).
also try fixing permissions, either in clockwork or rom manager

Thanks. I'm new tho, so what do you mean by fixing permissions. Could you give me step by step?
Go into recovery(CWM) and select the fix permissions option (might be under advanced)
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
Installing the .zip file already fixes permissions. Have you tried renaming the apk to Gallerygoogle2.apk in your preferred file manager?
second post, the link works perfectly.
Thanks!

[Q] Disable "Exit Internet?" Prompt when quitting browser?

I'm on a custom rom (twb) /kernel and I wish to disable this feature of the samsung browser.
I think I need an older or modified version of samsung browser. If anyone can direct me to such a version or advise another course of action, I will appreciate it.
Just replace the browser from any stock rom. The one in ur custom rom was modified to do this...

Have tried that by
1) unisntalling app in ROM toolbox app manager
2) copying app in system
3) restarting
nothing changed however. maybe the app's new version is like that?
Then should b ur csc...
See if u can locate these in /system/csc/others.xml or some other xml in the same dir...then change to false...:good:
Code:
<CscFeature_Web_EnablePromptToExit>TRUE</CscFeature_Web_EnablePromptToExit>
That + a restart fixed it

Zip disappears

When I try to flash a new Zip file, it disappears from the directory, both on SD internal and EXTsd card.......Goo manager FC and Rom manager says it's not there?
Any ideas to check for?
Re-installed Goo.im, Rom manager, still no luck.
Is there a way to manually Unzip and install without rebooting in recovery?
Tried to fix permissions, got "an error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands."?
What are you trying to flash?
Also, if you constantly moved from TW to AOSP, you were supposed to flash the zip to restore your SD card AFTER you flash the TW rom. This may be your issue as starting with android 4.2 Google added multi user and moved your files to a folder named /0 (or legacy).
Most of the time I had issues with not locating the zip it was due to this error. My recommendation, download and move the file to the root of your extSD before going in to recovery.
Also, remember Goo.im downloads are saved on the gooim folder in your internal SD card, not the downloads folder.

Thanks. Haven't run any roms on this one. Running stock and rooted with Aviate. I've tried dloading directly to extsd, transfering from my laptop to extsd and SD.
I was trying to flash the Dark Ink lockscreen v2 and 16 ink lockscreen. I'm stumped.....I was able to flash Bravia Engine, Exposed Framework, Multi-Window Mod......it's just the Lockscreen zips. And the only reason I was doing it was because I wanted the ink to work without the S-Pen.....Not that big of a deal I guess. It has to be something simple I am overlooking...
EDIT: Fixed....sort of.... It wouldn't install from any other folder than the CWM Backup folder?? If anyone has an idea as to why, I would love to know?

Alot of your problems are because you're trying to flash mods on a stock odexed system. If you want to flash rom mods you need to flash a rom that is deodexed. Basically a stock just rooted system breaks up the app in your system. This allows faster boot times. An deodexed system compiles the split up apps together. This will allow you to flash mods and easily modify your system. When you flash a mod you replace the original app. If it's odexed you don't replace the whole app.
