************ DESCRIPTION *************
Smart Screen Off PRO it's a simple and light app which uses the Proximity Sensor built in your Android smartphone to turn the screen off and on automatically.
**************************************
************** REASON ****************
I decided to code this app when I bought my Galaxy Nexus: this device doesn't have any physical button on the front screen. Being a quite huge phone, it's quite difficult to press the "turn off" button every time I wanted to turn it off and on. So I needed a way to turn the screen off every time I put it into the pockets and off when removed.
**************************************
************ HOW IT WORKS *************
The app itself is a toggle button, to switch it on just press the App Icon. Then every time you put the phone into your pockets the screen turns off.
If you put the smartphone upside down on the table, the screen turns automatically off.
NOTE: It doesn't lock the screen (just like in a call)
**************************************
************ REQUIREMENTS *************
In order to use Smart Screen Off, you need to have a phone with Proximity Sensor (nowadays every smartphone incorporates one).

installed on my GSM GNex and screen was going on/off while on calls. i removed the software and now my proximity sensor is doesn't work correctly. i make calls and the screen only goes off 1 out of 4 times and, when it goes off, it comes back. i wiped the cache and dalvik cache and that didn't help. last resort is reset and reinstall all apps, etc. i know this is not what you intended to happen, just reporting my experiences... disappointed that i have to reset to get the sensor back to normal function.

[?] 100% Screen Lock / Phone Lock

is there anyway to lock this phone so when its in your pocket and you're jamming out to some tunes, the screen doesnt turn on or the volume doesnt change? I've had this phone unlock it self and its beyond annoying. Also the screen will be off, phone locked, and if i get an email or text or what ever, the screen comes on every time. It didnt bother me at first but its starting to get to me now.
Tell me about it. My Note 1 pocket dialed 911 recently; I noticed a stern voicemail an hour later telling me if it was a real emergency to dial back. For those who don't know, when you use a PIN lock, an "emergency dial" button shows up, and one swipe and a tap in the right place can dial 911 (the Note 2 / JellyBean helps by not having "911" as a single-tap choice).
Anyway, couple things you can try. The flip screen protector (from Samsung) will prevent inadvertent screen presses while in a pocket. It works very well, though I personally don't really like having to flip open a cover on top of a phone this size.
It might be possible to use another SMS app like Handcent that won't turn the screen on when you get a text, but I haven't verified that. I haven't figured out how to prevent the screen from lighting up when a text comes in using the stock app, but the flip cover would prevent any screen taps from happening when it does.
I tried a proximity lock (turns screen off when prox sensor is activated), which worked, but there is some odd behavior. When you get a text and the screen kicks on, the proximity sensor app doesn't know you want the phone to go back to sleep, so I think it prevents deep sleep after that (battery drain?). And it also interferes with the phone's ability to use the proximity sensor during phone calls, so after the first phone call and subsequent proximity lock, it no longer works at all during calls until the service is restarted. You might experiment with these though. There's one called "ProximityService 2.1" (Google it since it was released in a Droid forum IIRC) and others are available in the market.
No software tips on the volume buttons, but if you get a TPU style case the cutouts will make them less likely to get pressed. I wish they were recessed just a little more or harder to press. I don't like the TPU cases because they add bulk to the phone.

Flipcover - how to automatically turn off screen when closed?

Does it work to automatically turn off screen (just like power button) when the cover is closed, like the iPad does?
Right now it stays on and waits for the default timeout (30 sec i think) before turning off...
Thx!
use smart cover app from play store..
it uses proximity sensor..

Screen Wakeup in pocket

Hello, recently I've found that my device is draining battery at a substantial rate while in my pocket. And after some testing, I found that even while in pocket mode, the phone wakes the screen up upon notification. This is with ambient screen turned on by the way. So when I get a notification, the ambient screen turns on and you're able to interact with the screen. I guess what I'm trying to get to is: shouldn't pocket mode automatically disable the waking of the lock screen?
Thanks for the help
Rykanator
pocket mode disables interaction, not screen waking from what i understand. test it by covering the prox sensor and hitting the lock button on your phone - you'll see it until you uncover the sensor
also not sure why notifications are waking your screen - they never do that for me. what apps are you using? one of them must be turning on the screen, most apps don't do that
I had this problem recently and discovered it was related to the manner in which the phone/case fit in my pocket. With certain walking or sitting movements, the power button was getting pressed, which turned on the screen. It was highly annoying, but only happened once (so far). I twish the power button was much deeper into the case than it is.

yes you can replace it. but go to local professional mobile hospital
I did it man.
Cost 150Rs.
Same happened to me!
What a pain in the arse. I am using Slim-Rom and a couple of options are available that have helped me overcome this inconvenience and may be available on others.
My path: Settings > Display there I find settings for Sleep , Volume Rocker Wake, Wake Upon Charge.
Since there is no way to turn the screen off, I set the device to sleep after 15 seconds of inactivity.
To turn it on, I allow the volume rocker to wake the device and if available, wake upon charge. This turns the device screen on when the charging cable is plugged in.
I know there is nothing better than the On/Off switch but I hope these little workarounds help you out.
knock knock in any kernel or cm ambient display and knock knock on statusbar on lock.
Ambient display and knock knock on statusbar on lock is in cm13 settings that i am using now, on gestures . knock knock is the best choice for you and can you find in some kernels. Knock knock on homescreen can be found in launcher settings on some launchers.

I guess Slim ROM has double tap to turn off the screen functionality. Or use gravity screen app and turn the display on and off automagically. It uses proximity and/or accelerometer.
