I have had HTC Desire for 2 years now and I am planning to buy this phone in couple of weeks. I have few questions if someone could answer them for me.
1. How is the loud speaker feature? Is it better than the Desire?
2. Out of 32GB memory, how much is available after all the preloaded system apps?
3. Since there is no SD slot, how an individual would transfer the data from PC to the phone? can an individual use a USB cable and place them in designated folder of the phone?

1. (My last phone was a Desire) The speaker is A LOT better, it sounds even better then the speakers in my laptop.
2. 25GB left. (+ You get 25 GB free with Dropbox, which you can use for your documents, photos, video)
3. Through Dropbox is the easiest way, you get 25 GB free storage which makes transfering files very easy to do. (And if 25 isn't enouf you can always buy more/also use Box which offers another free 50 GB.) USB transfer also works, but believe me once you get used to Dropbox you don't want anything els. When I take a picture on my phone it is a few seconds later already on my Dropbox account available for all my other devices.
Thanks.

I saw in a review that only 2GB is available for installing apps. Is this going to be a problem? The only thing I really disliked about my Desire was the dramatically limited space for apps and I don't really want to fall into that again.

I should have said that indeed, there is 2GB dedicated for installing apps but you can move pretty much any app to the "SD CARD" which has 25 GB of storage. My apologies for the confusing answer the first time.
PS : Keep in mind that within the 6 months pretty much all apps will be optimised for "Move to SD-Card".
PS2: Since all the storage is located on one physical storage unit (as far as I know?) I think devs might be able to make the 2GB partition a 10 (or any number) GB partition. But you better ask this to a real developper.

Call me paranoid but after the Desire I am a bit wary of moving apps to sd being some magical fix. It didn't seem to help me that much when I was HTC stock (pre root and roming). I thought the point of Android switching to MTP was to make all the space available for apps.

Yeah I had that same problem with the Desire, some apps didn't work after moving them to SD. But I think app-devs will start optimizing this, apps become larger and pretty much every phone has very limited memory (without the SD-Card).
+ I'm pretty sure Devs can make the 2GB partition larger, if you root the device and use a costum rom that is.
HI, im really sorry if this has been posted already but i did look and all i found was for other phones and not mine.
So my phone has had the low memory icon since December 31st, 2011 and has only gone away a few times. I clear the cache, took off photos, even cleared out my music and did a factory reset...all the while took off all the apps and put them back on one by one. Now my phone has decided to deny me access to my photo's, music and text messages. yesterday my internal phone memory was 10.93 and this morning it is 8.88. My sd card is 8 gigs and has 4.77 available space. I went to the telus store and the representative told me just to force stop applications running which I do that all the time and even go to the manage applications and stop the large ones. and I spoke to multiple representatives and all they would do if I sent it away would be update the software and do a factory reset. my phone wont even update any application....
please help me!!! I'm ready to throw my phone against a brick wall.
THANK YOU
MELISSA
I think that this hasn't been asked yet. Furthermore, in no case there are a billion of custom ROMS whose primary task was to circumvent this issue.

Have a look in the development section of this forum. There are custom roms (phone software) that allow apps to run from your memory card rather than the very limited phone memory. This will give you 5 times or more amount of space

Unfortunately you have to start a root and install a modded rom.
The Htc desire has this big problem. You can install apps only in the internal memory (about 520mb).
The modded roms allow you to install apps also in the SD card with (virtual) unlimited space.

Hi Everyone,
I recently bought a second hand HTC one X from my friend and he has installed InsertCoin ROM 15.0.0 …am fine the ROM it works like charm but my concern is when i check my storage under settings, the total Apps Storage is 6.76 GB and used is 4.90 which really confuses me…Apps 181 MB, Other 4.72 GB and Available is 1.85 GB…My friend did a complete reset before handing over the phone to me however the “Others” category has occupied the most and is it normal that InsertCoin could’ve used this amount of memory or its something else? To check this i installed Antek Explorer and i found few folders is having a huge amount of files….Those folders are under Device Root.. name of the those folders are Proc,Sys,System…. Device Root>Proc hold the huge amount of data… Can i delete them n if i do will it cause any problems? Not to mention that am a Noob..So i wud appreciate if someone can guide me like a Novice.
In every phone storage capacity, the manufacturer will give FULL capacity as spec. But you need to remember, the device running on a OPERATING SYSTEM and of course this OS need file to operate.
What you see in under apps storage as "Others" is actually system file which needed to run your device. "Apps" is the applications that you installed yourself like games etc. But hey, you still got 25GB of space in phone storage right.

And NO, if you delete the files, you won't be able to use your device. You can switch it on but it will go untill HTC splash screen only. I've tried once, I format my device data on pc then I can't use it untill I flash new system. And it takes 3 days for me to learn all about android and this flashing world before I resurrect my phone.

Well for system files, you can't move them. For apps, you can move it to phone storage and yes it will affect the performance of your phone but keep in mind that for apps that integrated with system like widgets, root manager etc, you need to leave it in app storage. Otherwise, there will be issues when you start the apps.

Hi guys.I`ve wanted to ask you did someone managed to install Asphalt 7 Heat on the HTC 8S.I have it on my SD Card but it`s listed under unsupported applications.
Thanks.
Try to download it again. Maybe you have Version 1.0. That is not supported by the 8S, because it has only 512 MB Ram. The Version 1.1 should be supported
I will try again but i am sure that the version is 1.1.Did you maybe tried installing it on a 512MB ram phone?

when you put it on your memory card you must remove the memory card from the phone and then put it back...wait 5 min and it should be there in the store

My friend. The game shows up in the Store app list but on the bottom of the list under Unsupported applications.I`m asking:
1.Did someone managed to install this game on HTC 8S?
2.Is it the low internal memory of the phone that is preventing the game to be installed?(Official confirmation).
If this is the problem then HTC made a huge mistake allowing this phone to run Windows Phone 8.The phone is great looking i can say but it`s functionality is terrible. That`s like Bugatti make a Veyron but only with 150HP.
Hi Mates,
I have a HTC One X (not rooted yet) which had a very slow and poor performance... something like 92% usage of RAM... icons, menus and the phone in general was lacking and very slow.
I looked in "Settings" > "Apps" > "Only Running Apps"... and here it showed that 0,93 GB out of 0,95 GB was used like this:
"Settings" was using around 81 MB
"GO Launcher EX" = 33 MB
"GO TaskManager EX" = 23 MB
"HD Widgets" = 17 MB
"Swiftkey" = 30 MB
All the others apps are using 10 MB or below.
Note: A lot of the apps was showing the text "Rebooting"...
After this check I decided to make a clean install by restoring my HTC One X to factory default, format the internal SD card, and then start all over from scratch.
I did not use any backup tools for my apps, so I did everything manually to setup and install the phone again... like from new out of the box.
Now I am back, having installed my nearly 290 apps from Google Play market... the phone now show the exact same performance problem.
I understand that the primary benefit of a rooted phone is that you can install whatever ROM software you prefer... and that you have better control of the memory, and can setup which apps should NEVER start unless clicked on manually, and which should be running... so a better performance and the possibility to use a ROM with better features that what comes with the HTC One X out of the box...?!
So if this is true, then I have considered to root my phone soon... if none of you have great news for me on how to increase performance on my existing platform / phone.
I have been told that rooting my phone is very easy, just search XDA Developers website and Youtube for instructions... also I have been recommended to use the ROM named INSERT COIN, and to get hold of something named "unlockcode.bin"... but I am quite worried and nervous about rooting my phone based on these hints, because I have realized that there are several root guides available, different all in one software and many Youtube videos, so I was looking for some guidance on this too, in case you can provide me with weblinks to a secure root procedure, and possible a good and trusted Youtube video.
Note: I have a HTC One X which is not locked to any specific mobile service provider, so I am not sure if this means that I can skip the unlock code bin thing...?!
Does anyone of you have time to help me with these questions above, please?
Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Osukido

290 apps.. you're serious eh?
If so post a list and ppl might point out some obvious resource hoggers? Other than that, I think 290 might be a bit overdone?
Also, trying not to offend you but it appears you're better off reading up on the guides first and figure out why what is required to prevent a 'help I've tried to flash ........ And now my phone doesn't boot' topic. It appears you've got some facts mixed up and they can be straightened out by reading some basic root info/guides/faq's.
Maybe someone else who has such a sheer amount of apps installed can comment on the performance?
290 apps.. must be havoc in the background!!

Well, the first things I would point out would be...if you are unrooted and have not yet installed a custom ROM then you are fully stock?
Your GoLauncher and HD Widgets will be killing the RAM since even with them, Sense is still being loaded into memory in the background.
There's you low memory right there.
WTF why do you need whole Google Play market downloaded on your phone? Hahahha 290 apps. This is not a PC man. Its a phone. And you wonder where all performance is? LOL
Hi Mates,
Thanks for all your feedback and help!
I understand that it seems I have many more apps installed compared to you senior people.
I use my phone for many things, both for private and work related stuff, and in Denmark, Europe - where I live, there are plenty of apps around from shops, companies, Government, healthcare, news and TV stations etc. - you name it - also I use apps from the UK and USA, as I have relation to those countries - so actually I have ZERO games installed, but at the moment 251 useful apps installed (I had 290 before I restored my phone) - for things I check up on daily, weekly or monthly... some are you tools like calculator, measurement, convert apps etc. - and 20 apps or so was pre-installed with Android OS itself.
Well, in would have expected that the Android OS would not start all or most of the 251 apps in the background, but only when I use the specific app it should be started, and most of the rest should be in hibernate status... but I realize that the Android OS is not so clever, that it can be setup which apps to run, and which to postpone when not using them...
Then I also understand from your feedbacks, that then I need to root my phone, so that I can install an app like "greenify – root" where I can perform these settings for which apps should be running, and which should not... which I would call a missing Android feature, and something I expected to be able to do on a smartphone from out of the box, but never mind.
@ Tigerlight:
I am unrooted, so I fully agree with you that the Sense is loaded in the background, also that I see many apps running in the background, and I cannot control them, and decide which should hibernate so that only the apps I open should be running, and a few more for mail and weather etc.
This leaves me with a new challenge, or question from my first opening text in this thread... which is that I would now like to root my HTC One X phone, and install the ROM named INSERT COIN... but as I am a newcomer to this world of rooting phones, and as some of you might have seen, then I failed rooting my first old HTC Desire HD phone, so it was not able to boot afterwards... then I would be very pleased if some of you senior people could help me out with some links to which steps I need to perform on my HTC One X in order to root it.
I would be very pleased to do all by myself, and read info/guides/faq's - so that I can learn and become more experienced in this area... but it seems that there are several different YouTube videos, and several different guides on how to root this phone, so all I am asking is for some links to trusted and secure guides and download of the correct INSERT COIN ROM, so that I will not end up in trouble like last time...
Thanks in advance.

You don't want to go to youtube for rooting guides. Most of the times the files linked in youtube are outdated and you might end up in a bootloop or soft brick. It is very hard to brick a HTC one X so if you just read what you have to do, and KNOW what you are doing to your phone you should be fine. Just make sure you know what you do, when you do it, and what can happen. I suggest using Philz touch recovery (CWM based, since the newer versions of CWM cannot use touch.
