Very nice work!!!
However, I can't seem to get the wifi hotspot to work I am rooted (via towelroot and verified). I enable it via your app, go to setting and wifi hotspot. Then a dialog pops up asking me to subscribe? I have S5 with Sprint running stock 4.4.2.
Thoughts?

Hi,
First reboot phone once and see if subscription nag pops up again, if so see below:
Do me a favor (I would appreciate it) Click restore via HFA, let the phone reboot and finish HFA(you won't lose any data promise)
With a file explorer navigate to data/data/com.android.porviders.telephony/databases/telephony.db
pm me this file or post it here (no unique data in it so no worries)
I will get you all sorted out.
Thanks

Sorry to have wasted your time with a reply. It seems that a reboot did fix the issue as I was able to start the Hotspot now and the nag dialog doesn't appear.
Thanks again for your help and you effort in creating this great set of tools!

Yes the phone keeps the old apn settings in memory untill another one is loaded(switch from 3g to lte or a manual switch or, of course, a reboot)

It absolutely did with TDunham's DeOdexed version.
Obtained root using tdunham [STOCK ROM][4.4.4] NK4 Kitkat ROM DeOdexed. Followed all the instructions on that thread. Im using TWRP recovery.
Downloaded Galaxy Tools from the play store. Says Galaxy Tools v2.2.0. su: Using: 2.13:SUPERSU
I click on "Enable Native Hotspot" and the phone restarts. I go back into the GT app and click on Wifi Hotspot settings and turn the hotspot on. Everytime I do this I get a pop up that says I am not subscribed.
I have uninstalled the GT app and reinstalled. Cleared all data for SU app. No matter what I do I always get the pop up saying I am not subscribed.
Any suggestion?

Maybe try uninstall su app, enable hotspot, then reinstall su app again after hotspot is working.

After disabling SU (cant uninstall, there is no option to. Guessing since it is built into the ROM) I go into the GT app and click Enable hotspot and it says IOException.

Not sure, sorry, I made this for all stock galaxy devices, and it works on all of their official software versions(at least S3 through Note 4/Edge). I cannot say how it will work on custom roms because people change whatever they want in them. On stock everything would work as it should.

You're not stock, your deodexed, which is why it is failing. You need to be stock rooted. Why don't you Odin nk4, then root it.

You have to have:
Samsung Kies installed
Enable USB debug in dev section (hit about device greyed out area few times to enable)
Open command window and type in the location of adb.exe, and type in the following:
adb reboot download
This brings the phone to Odin mode, extract the package and open Odin, hit PDA and locate the .tar file, and hit start (make sure you don't touch anything else). Once it has done, the phone will go to recovery and install SuperSU for you.
A friendly reminder: the unit Knox Warranty Void will become 0x1, so think twice if you want to sell it in the future.

Everytime root comes out for a new device someone asks this question. Sometimes it has even been myself.
I really wish OPs would disclose this as for most it doesn't matter, however, there is a good chunk that do care if the custom counter is tripped and now since knox is a factor, whether its check is triggered.
It can matter when a device is returned for warranty purposes and is important to know.
Take a look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2295749&d=1380658716
I hear it will trip the knox trigger to 0x1 - not sure if odin'ing would fix this or not.

Started from scratch / odin ne2 tar / reroot / now works like a charm. Thanks
1. Go to Settings --> More --> Tab on Application Manager
2. Go to All tab (By scrolling Vertically)
3. Find AT&T Hot Spots and click it
4. When App info opens, click Turn off
Now AT&T Hotspot is turned off (The above steps just to ensure that AT&T hotspot is off
5. Download RootBrowser and the attached file and save to your phone. Know exactly where you saved it, so you can use it later on.
6. Browse to System/app and rename TetheringProvision.apk and TetheringProvision.odex . Rename the apk and odex to*.bak*(This way, you can rename them back in case the steps did not work for you)
7. After you finish replacing the files, go to your folder where you saved the attached file and copy it to system/app & change permissions to same as the other file you renamed
7. Reboot your phone.
8. Enjoy using foxfi app or any tether app
You cant use the phone settings hotspot but atleast you can tether free on 4.4.2 alot of people are still on unlimited plan so this helps alot

Just throwing a couple things out there.....
1. Have you tried this without changing file permissions after the copy?
2. The file is not foxfi.... Foxfi is a different app. This file is one of the stock files that has been modified. And this one does not look like it has been done completely, since it still pops up the notification that it is checking if the device is authorized to tether,
Yes it did work. Honestly I didn't test it without changing file permissions, because I already knew what they were and changed them before I rebooted.

What am I missing?
Hello All,
I just tried this and I am still unable to tether with AT&T. I have a Note II currently running 4.4.2. My OTA upgrade semi-bricked my phone (probably because I had a rooted 4.3 install). So I installed 4.4.2 using Zen's ODIN package. I then rerooted using CF-Autoroot and upgrade to SU 2.02 manually. According to Root checker I am rooted, I am also running 4.4.2 w/ the latest boot loader, modem, and kernel.
I first turned off ATT Hotspot as instructed. I then used Total Commander to rename the two existing files under System/app. I moved the APK in the OP into System/app and set permissions as before. I restarted my phone and tried FoxFi. It starts up and goes for a few seconds (which it did not on 4.3) It also seems to be transferring more data. However, once I try to connect my PC to the hotspot I get the "verifying" window and then the notice to call 611 to enable mobile hotspot.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Almost There!
OK I finally got my FoxFi working on my Galaxy S3 with 4.4.2!
I've also uninstalled FoxFi after I got it working and the hotpsot still works!
To turn on WiFi hotspot I go to settings/connections/More Networks/Tethering and Wi-Fi hotpsots/Mobile Hotspot and turn it on. It does say FoxFi in use even though it is uninstalled?
Not sure what is going on?
Any ideas?
I have the Note 2 also but not on 4.4.2, however I also have the verizon s5 and it had the same tethering issue at 1st untill I foundout that the tethering mod from xposed worked without issue, all I did was install xposed and the tether mod and with PowerToggles I placed the Tether toogle and enable it from there like on this Picture. I'm not 100% sure if it would work on the note 2 4.4.2 its just an idea that I think someone should try. Don't forget to make a full backup in case it goes wrong.
Error "app stopped"
HI, I have done all of the above but am not able to turn on the hotspot, once I turn it on it says "app stoped",
I am running a rooted AT&T I337 4.4.2 version phone international SIM,
any Ideas what I did wrong ?
thanks

What is the upgrade procedure? Do I need to go so far as to remove root? Any advice appreciated.

It turns out that GalaxyTools is not working for me either. Since I had root, I had to ODIN the NK2 tar file to my phone and not take OTA. I then factory reset the phone for a clean start. I did notice that the APN is greyed out when I try access it using ##DATA# command with MSL to edit. Maybe something is not letting GalaxyTools edit the APN setting.
Finally decided to do it using SQLite editor and rebooted. Native hotspot is now working.
I am sure GalaxyTools will soon get updated to accommodate this limitation.
In the meantime, just use SQLite.

Yes just uncheck auto reboot in GalaxyTools and it will be ok, next update I'll make it check after it writes the change before I have it reboot It seems for some the root request is just not passed or granted fast enough, I will make sure in next version this cannot happen.
