Alright guys anybody know if they are going to have a note 4 developer edition for verizon? I know it is earlier as i leaked the note 3 developer edition last year to Droid-life seen here (http://www.droid-life.com/2013/10/1...outs-verizon-galaxy-note-3-developer-edition/)
I know this wasnt found by myself until October 11th and i think the note 3 came out on verizon on October 10th? Just wondering if anybody has some inside on the note 4 developer edition.
Do not need your opinions that it is a waste of money or etc etc i am buying off contract and will own a developer edition just wondering if i should preorder a note 4 like i did note 3 and then return the note to verizon when dev comes out
I hope for Germany too.

Dev Note 4
Hope so. I would rather have a dev. phone than be locked to VZW's ROMs with all the crapware installed.
Put me down for one if that happens, or does anyone want to sell their Note 3 Dev. cheap?
If there's no Note 4 Dev. Ed., I'll pick up the Nexus Shamu. I won't really miss the stylus, but the camera with OIS would be nice to have.
By the time the DE comes out, the retail phone should be rooted and have a custom recovery.
if you think that, you dont know samsung and verizon. The verizon samsung phones have even more protection in the bootloader, heck the s4 and s5 arent even unlocked yet, and they are very popular.

I do not expect it to be unlocked only to be able to use SS for recovery and ROM flashing

Wow, that's insane. I wonder how much I can get for mine. It's not mint (I picked up a tiny, tiny scratch in the bottom left hand side of the screen somehow even though I'm insanely careful), but it's close. I was just hoping to get $400, but now I'm wondering if I can get a tad more.

The Note 3 Developers Edition had an unlocked bootloader. Necessary if you want to install a custom kernel. So far as have read, no developer edition has been announced for the Note 4. Indeed, predictions seem to be that it will be locked down very tightly.

Hello,
I am new to Samsung and have a question.
Previously I have been an HTC user, and was able to restore a Developer version (HTC ONE) ROM to a At&t (HTC One) through TWRP.
So is it possible to flash a non At&t STOCK ROM to my At&t Note 4?
And also how would I go about rooting manually. CF-autoroot not available for the At&t version.
Thanks..

@nasvi - you've posted a question in the development section - this is strictly forbidden. The Development section has rules about what can be posted here & the "original development" section is especially sacred in what is allowed...basically, if you didn't "create it," it doesn't belong in development and if you didn't "create it from scratch," it doesn't belong in original development.
I've moved your question to the Q&A section where it should have been posted originally. Please familiarize yourself with the rules link in my signature and adhere to those in the future to avoid future moderator interaction.
Thanks.
@nasvi At this time there is no root or ability to flash anything other than AT&T roms.

Do you think something will be available in about 2 weeks.
I am thinking about returning/Selling the Note 4 since no root is available, and buying a One Plus One.
I refuse to use a device with all the crap Att has put on it (Bloatware, Spyware).
Oh well... if noting come up between now and my return date, I will say goodnye to sammy.
Thank you...

Ya, I second that. Should have searched first. ATT = locked bootloader which means no easy root like T-mobile. Note 3 people with Kitkat had to wait 6 months for root. It was a similar wait for the S5. That exploit has been patched so it doesn't work on the Note 3 or Note 4. Expect to wait about 6 months for root.
Meanwhile, a dream team of the devs have moved to the T-mobile Note 4 which is compatible with ATT's network.

you didnt know this before buying the device?
No.. I did not..
I was assuming it would be as simple as HTC.
I got my HTC One the first day and within hours had bootloader unlocked and custom recovery installed, nandroid backup done, other non-Att stock ROM installed ( Developer Edition ). But I also had other options like ( Google Play Edition ). Downloaded Straight from official HTCDEV website.
I like the new Note 4 a lot.
But this is BS....
In addition to all the BS... att has removed Download Booster and internet calling options from settings. So I cant register a SIP account on my Note 4... This is just plain stupid...
What the Hell ATT???

Dude, I think from all of your posts that we understand you have a t-mobile Note 4 by now. It seems that you mention it in every post.
Not everyone is able to get a t-mobile Note 4 to use on the AT&T network for various reasons. I'm not saying you're asking him to in this particular response, but your song and dance is getting a little old.

Ya, I agree I do feel like I'm beating a dead horse at times but people keep asking the same things. I'm just trying to help and give them the best options they have. Some have unrealistic expectations that root will be here in a week or a month and don't realize what has happened with previous Samsung phones. I saw the complaints, disappointment and $1000's of dollars in bounties in the note 3 and s5 forums and thought I would try and help as early as I could this time. I do feel like it's helped a great deal of people that would have made a mistake otherwise getting an ATT Note 4. Especially when it's so easy to avoid all the problems and have a great phone.
To me it's like buying a car from a dealer that puts a governor stuck at 45mph when you can go to the dealer across the street that lets you use it to the full potential.
I realize some people can't and that's fine. Feel free to ignore me. Thanks!

the problem is that if you want to buy it from the dealer across the street, you'll have to shell out $8xx, which most people cannot do. So they're forced to get the governed 45 mph device instead and hope that someone can help remove it.
I am curious as to whether anyone has even heard about a dev working on root for our AT&T variant. I keep seeing people say that there will be root "at some point" but I am not sure about that. It seems to me that the devs have simply given up on this one. I don't blame them either, I mean why bother with trying to get around locked bootloaders when you can simply move on to another device? I know that there must be someone out there trying if for no other reason than to take on the challenge but if so no one is talking about it.

Ya, I've been in a similar situation before. One thing I did that may help is to sell it on Ebay (swappa is an option too) and then use the money to get the other device. That way you are out very little money.

No worries bro, I'm sorry if my post was too rude. I was just thinking if people are on xda and know a little about root, they either knew what they were getting into buying the AT&T version or they had to buy it for whatever reason.
But I also understand that a lot of people on xda don't know these things sometimes. No harm bro, good luck with this beautiful device!
I'm sure there is a dev out there who would love to conquer what other devs see ass "too much work" I mean it's honestly a good payout. Helps ALOT of people who finally get what they desire out of a device they shelled out alot for....instead of paying a lot for a disappointment a dev out there can solve all of that they can stick it to AT&T for f&#**!& it up for all of us...there is one somewhere...we should all beg hashcode to develop a safestrap for us at least like we had on the note 3....

That won't happen, he works for Google now.
Hey Guys,
I'm really considering switching to Verizon, but I've heard they're very bad with locking down phones and rooting. Clearly you guys are all here, so they can't be that bad right?
Can you give me the lowdown on if expecting root for the Retail Note 4 is crazy? (Developer Edition isn't an option as I can essentially get the retail Note 4 for free through a family member) I'm so used to having root with things like Titanium Backup and Tasker. Not being able to use Tasker is almost a deal breaker for me.
Also, what am I sacrificing by not having an unlocked bootloader on the retail version?
Thanks for any input, help, and feedback !
No unlocked bootloader means no custom kernals, and more or less just stock roms that are tweaked a little. We would love root, but right now with Verizon it doesn't look like it will come soon. Especially with Android L coming soon (hopefully?). All in all though I love Verizon's service and will gladly sacrifice root for now. I'm sure it will come....eventually.
Don't look for root anytime soon, if ever
Yes, they are really that bad. I'd jump to another carrier in a heartbeat if the coverage was as good, but in my area I have little choice (YET!). If signal is comparable wherever you are, I'd think twice about switching.
Ugh. Thanks for the replies guys.
Tough decision for me. Currently with Sprint and they are so terrible here.
The Edge program w/ the 10 GB family plan and $150 port credit, basically is getting me a Note 4 for free.
Appreciate the replies again. I need to research what sacrifices I'm making without root.
I'll probably take my note 4 back and grab the LG g3 while it's still available from verizon. I don't know why but seems like when verizon finds out that certain devices can be rooted and unlocked they discontinue them. I purchased the HTC OneMAX when they came out last year, and I rooted unlocked and s-off in about a week. That device is only a year old but verizon has discontinued it like 3 or 4 months ago, jeez I wonder why.

That's what happened to me. Horrible Sprint signal, loving having good 4G everywhere for the first time EVER. Once I had the Note 4 and discovered how long it might take to root it I considered turning it back in and getting an S5 instead. So hard to go back to a screen that small now though!

Is the s5 already rooted with verizon? Imo, the s5's processor is already outdated using the snapdragon 801, instead of the 805 like the note 4. Don't mind the smaller screen size that much though.
I took the plunge and no regrets as well. Service is way better, and you can't beat a "free" Note 4.
I found this awesome thread and thought I would link it here in case someone reading this didn't know about it.
What do you miss about root? Let's find workarounds!
Great stuff in there.
This is horrible not having root this long. It's a completely new and raw feeling. Every android phone I've ever had had got root the same day I picked it up. The og DROID was a development veteran. The Droid X, eh.. The galaxy nexus speaks for itself. The note 2 had great development as did my note 3. Then I pick up a AT&T note 4 thinking I had nothing to worry about as this is my first AT&T phone. A month later and even though this phone is awesome, its horrible not having root. I don't blame anyone but AT&T. What's a**holes. I LONG for Viper Audio & Xposed...
I feel your pain...which is exactly why I'm chomping at the bit for my Nexus 6 to arrive . I'll probably carry them both, as I think the camera is better in the Note 4..........but I want my Xposed! I gotta save those snapchats! LOL

Hard to believe you didn't do your research.. AT&T has been requesting locked bootloaders from the OEMs since before the Note 3.
Sad to say this phone will probably not get cracked before Lollipop gets pushed down. After that, thenodds are probably even more unlikely. I don't think, (even though there is a long list of folks donating), that we have actually gotten confirmation that any devs are working on an exploit for this one.
If you just must have root, you'd be better off using the T-Mobile variant.

The fact is that AT&T and Verizon want non rootable phones. Period. And that isn't likely to change.
People that 'need' root need to make 100% sure a phone is rooted before they buy it. It is going to be more and more unlikely that phones with locked boot loaders will be rooted.
If you buy a phone that doesn't have root, then don't complain.

Honestly I can't believe I didn't do the research either. I should have known better smh. might have been a little to excited to snatch one up on my own line. But I'll definitely be selling it for a SM-N910T as soon as I can. What the f*ck AT&T.
Meh. You should have known before you bought it.
I am having a hard time believing all of this as well. I'm actually putting off my upgrade because of it. Sitting here with my year-old Note 3 that I rooted 2 hours after I bought it, kinda thinking about going another direction, I just really like my current plan

How long did it take for the ATT note 3 to get rooted?
Blame Samsung
The bottom line is SAMSUNG makes the phone, not ATT. They should stop being a bunch of ******* and just say our phone comes with an unlocked bootloader. PERIOD. What are they going to do? Not carry the hottest device out there? I doubt it
I might be in the minority but to me, for the first time ever since I started using Android, I don't feel like root is necessary. Sure, it would be nice to have Xposed and TiBu, but I seem to manage fine with this phone.

And what business reason is there for Samsung to do that? As long as people are buying the phones, they won't bother.
If sales falter (people buying tmobile instead of the att version doesn't count) and people are vocal on why, then something may change... But I doubt it.
Nexus 6
Mistake!
I bought my nexus 6 3 week ago.. I noticed immediately that the phone is faster that my note buy that's about it because my note had way more features, better hardware and I miss all of that now....

Amen... just upgraded to Note 4 from Note 2, two weeks after my AT&T contract expired and got a note from AT&T that I could now unlock my phone... whoops for them, a bit too late. Patiently waiting for these phone manufacturers to stop bending over for the carriers and start insisting on unlocked devices right out of the factory.

If you have chosen to buy an AT&T/Verizon phone then you're gonna have to live with it, buddy. That's why I kept my N3 and didn't rush for the N4. That's what I've always done. Once a phone (from those two carriers) comes out, I'd just wait and watch for a couple of months if it gets rooted. If not then sell the old one and add a little bit of money and buy me an unlocked one.
From my Allianced S5!
If you want root figure a way to do it yourself, otherwise just wait patiently.
I got over not having root after maybe 5 or 6 days. Ads suck but the Note performs better than my old rooted phone, and the camera is epic, I can live without root...
Thinking about selling my retail note 4 and buying a developer edition. Once lollipop is out will Samsung start shipping the dev editions with lollipop pre-installed? I'm hesitant to go with the dev edition as it seems like a lollipop upgrade may never happen.
That's actually pretty good question. Most people would say no you never get updates etc etc but the developer edition is available online now and if lollipop update happens soon I don't know?
Right. All I really want is to run a stock rom with root but since there isn't a very active dev community for the Note 4 I'm skeptical if lollipop will ever come in that form.

No one really knows the answer to your question, will Samsung ship Developer Edition Note 4's after Lollipop has been released by Samsung. Who knows how long or when Samsung will have a version of Lollipop for the Note 4? There are some schools of thought that Lollipop may not be able to be rooted, Developer Edition or retail version. So, who knows?
I personally maintain this: I really don't care if Lollipop is released for the Note 4. I have a Nexus tablet with Lollipop on it and am not impressed at all with Lollipop. My Note 4 is rooted with TWRP and self debloated, running Nova Launcher and a few apps requiring root like Xposed and Wanan and I don't think there is a phone on the market, with or without Lollipop, that has better battery life, runs smoother or faster, has better connectivity or has a better display. When you add in the S-Pen features, you can't beat the Note 4 and I don't think Lollipop is going to make the Note 4 better. Just my opinion.
Jpcalhoun said it best.. There is a bit of me that wants that lollipop but then again im so happy where my DE is now. If it ain't dont fix it really comes to. Mind.
Update Question
I might be totally off base here, but I thought it was just a question of getting the OTA update from a non-DE Note 4 and modifying it slightly so it doesn't overwrite your bootloader with a retail version.

Well, I'm convinced... Off to go ebay my retail n4. Anybody done this and can report on how much they got for it? Sale prices are strangely all over the map on ebay. I can't really figure out what is causing some to sell for $500 and others for $650. Mine is in great condition. I'm expecting $600. Thoughts?

I might be totally off base here, but I thought it was just a question of getting the OTA update from a non-DE Note 4 and modifying it slightly so it doesn't overwrite your bootloader with a retail version.

That would be correct. The challenge is having a developer, or someone who knows what he's doing, to do it. From my experience that updated version of Android, in this case kitkat to lollipop, usually comes to us in the form of a ROM flashable through recovery. But it doesn't necessarily have to be that way I guess. I assume you could take the factory .tar, modify it and use ODIN to install.
Either way, I have a line on clean copies of the updates. Guy down the hall from me has a retail VZW Note 4. Asked him to download, but not install, then bring the phone to me to pull the file from cache

Outstanding!!
Hopefully it's not a complicated process. If you're just upgrading stock, I can't imagine it would be. Regardless, at least it will get us over that hurdle.

good luck that seems high to me for a non dev device
Who is excited to get note 8 that gone be out... Let's just home I wine be same problems as note 7 did... Because the lates leaks hiring me existed for this devise
I had no issues with my Note4 and current Note5. However I'll get the note 8 since there will be no new firmware for my N920A and it can't be rooted.
Same I have no issues wit my note 5 just lack memory card.... And note 4 screen is done
Honestly, I love my Note 5. The camera is top notch and it seems like the perfect size.
I may not get the Note 8 and there's only 1 reasone why - - AT&T NEXT. Monthly payment on a phone that will never be mine until I am like 30 months into owning it on monthly payments. Not to mention it is locked down. I want a device I can freely modify with custom roms and Samsung is locking down devices tightly. I can't risk tripping Knox with a phone that's not mine.
I'm not getting one. I prefer a flat screen on my phone. I can't abide curved screens for loads of reasons.. but mainly the inability to fit an adequate screen protector.
So unless Sammy decides to release a flat screen variety then I'll stick to my note 5.
And as a side bar... Phone prices are getting rediculous, and while new incarnations of tech offer more the functions remain broadly the same imo....
After getting nougat and watching nougat comparison to s8...there's not much difference in performance...If they step up the note 8 well...I think I'd get the note it...but I'd love to get my hands on the note 7r first...
Hope it comes to the USA...
