So I was trying to see the current posts on the forum from my phone last night, but for some reason opera mini wouldn't let me, so I did a search of the forum to try different links when I saw this site, that gives people free user names and passwords to our forum, it says is for people that don't want the hassle of registering with us , can use these and come and go here. I don't know if I'm overeacting about this but I personally wouldn't want someone getting their hands on my username and password, and abusing it and getting me banned from here.
Now I'm hoping that this are usernames and passwords of people that no longer want to come here and are giving them to this site, and that is not that somehow the're stealing our usernames and passwords.
Here's link.http://www.bugmenot.com/view/forum.xda-developers.com
that's incredibly f'd up. the jeep forum that i'm on is there too.
I've heard of it and used it once before for another site. It's shady but it is a spammers paradise. I think the only reason I used it was for the inability to get an email reply because registering was temporarily down.
lmao, at the op.
BugMeNot is a great website.
I use it all the time for forum's where I know I prolly only visit once in my lifetime.
yes, i cant believe you've never heard of bugmenot before. Its user submitted U ... the people that submit usernames are doing alot of people a huge favor.

You see I have no problem registering to a forum and becoming a member if I'm looking for info or apps/games or to chat. and you say that users that submit are doing people a huge favor, in what way, so people can go into these forums and sites without effort or contribution and just mooch from everybody.
Oh well I guess it's just my opinion.
I guess your just really young and naive.
so, let me slowly explain the benefits of this site.
Say I was searching for a song on google.
I then found the song on a forum, but to download it I have to be a member.
Now, instead of wasting 10 minutes of time registering for a site that I will never again you, I can just go to BugMeNot or use the BMN firefox extention.
Get it?
It does not effect the forum, cause I will never go there after the inital time.

First of all I'm not young and naive, I'm 33yrs old, married with 2 kids, own my house and three cars, How about you?
and second like I said before if a forum or website has something of interest to me , even if is one thing I'll become a member, I've done it before, I have gone to sites and forums and thought maybe I won't come back but I end up browsing thru, just to check things.
Look, I guess the're are some people that might find this beneficial, and that's cool, and my main concern was on how they aquired such u/p , but if they are being shared by the people that made the acc. then I guess we have not much to worry about.
One of the things that I like about forums like xda or NECO is that there are actually people at the other end of the user names. If I post something, the responses to that post are coming from people that I may or may not trust.
Point being, if multiple people are using the same login and only doing so once to post a questoin or comment on something then you end up with user names that post a lot of crap or you can have folks trolling and trying to sell their "insert junk here".
Take the time to register. Even if you never go back to the website who cares. If your time is too valuable to spend 3 - 5 minutes registering a username and password then you're not very likely to be trolling forums.
I used bugmenot on xda a copule of times, then I registered!
+1
BugMeNot has helped me MULTIPLE times, and it benefits both the forums and the users (to a degree). Say I wanted to use a forum just for one thing, I simply go to bugmenot.com to find a username/password. I won't get unnecessary spam, and prevents unnecessary accounts being made on the forum.
And I don't even know why I typed all that^... lol -_-"

Will do. I used to administer a forum on a different topic but this type of stuff was a problem for us too.
Hey everyone ... or anyone. Does someone have the BuzzVoice App cracked? I went to 4shared.com and nothing, no luck at all. If someone has a crack or someone that does, can you please let me know. Thanks XDA Community.

You're not going to find that kind of thing here man everything on XDA is about supporting dev's who do most of what they do at no cost in their free time for the community. So by presenting this type of request you're insulting a lot of people not to mention pissing them off. Suggestion, click the little "Edit" button below your post type "10 Char......" and move on.
I do support guys. I just thought of asking. A guy can't even ask! Damn what have this world come to.
You weren't "just asking" you had intent to get this app for free, you even said so. And what has this world come to? You call us out when you're the one trying to steal. Retard.

This community has been so helpful with tweaking every aspect of out devices, but every time I click a new thread I feel like a browsing 4chan for somethingawful forums. The amount of flaming that occurs is ridiculous.
Why can you just say "this isn't the place for that, and is against the forum rules to discuss pirating software" ?
Hi!
Do you think that we should have more ranks on XDA like on other forums (PPCgeeks, MoDaCo)? Because after we reach the 100 post count, we are just 'senior members' and are ranks stay like that. It would be nice if we introduced more ranks, i.e - 200 post, 300 post we get new ranks!
Thanks!
Yea that would be nice but until then you got to love with it
I can't see any benefit in this? It's just a couple of words under your name...

No benefit, but atleast we can have the title which would be cool
@OP,
I´ll bring this to discussion
yeah, i'd say i would enjoy it. not really a necessity, but it'd be kinda cooool, lol
Great idea, i hope that it's implemented.
It might be a nice perk for those who donate - on other sites, once you've become a 'premium member' or donated a certain amount you have the ability to change your own title.
Thumbs up for this idea!
Why bother
Surely admin have better things to do - then come up with pointless words under our names? OK it may be fun, but still pointless, though I do like reinbeau's idea.
How about donating some money instead and have some lovely gold stars under your name -

XDA is a developer site
not a fun site
it's geared towards Programmers, Coders and ROM Chefs and all GOD almighty people beyond your regular user that comes joins, download the ROM and flash the phone, or download their Apps and go merry happy go round.
though the forum welcomes any feedback from the users regarding ROMs, MODs, HACKs, & APPs
it's not your regular forum to hang out and chill, as some people takes it for granted, and also brings all their ego and fights, etc, which turns this place more like a Playground than a Development Board
As you can see with all that in mind, there's no real need to add more Ranks as it's not a site for people to earn rank, unless you can Code, Develop, and make something useful and provide it for FREE to the members of this board.
I honestly don't see any benefit in this. Nonetheless is may or may not be harmless. I'm for one is don't care about ranks. I'll even get pointers/tutorials from new members with less than 10 post. It doesn't matter anyways.
Yes e all have our own opinions. But why not? It doesn't sketching a ifferwnce whether this site is a fun site or not. it just gives members more incentive. I guess thatas my own opinion though.

Well, as I suggested, it could just be a perk for those who donate - I don't see a lot of stars on many of the threads I participate in, I was just trying to come up with a creative way to fund raise to support the site.
XDA is growing, and you're attracting lots of new people - and many here are over the top helpful. So you're going toget a more social atmosphere as the site grows. That can be a good thing, as long as it's managed well - considering the audience, management is going to become more and more of an issue (I'm a moderator on a huge forum myself).

To help other members i would like a new rank rather than just being a senior member.
ie those who donate get better ranks et c, and posters

If people want to help ONLY to get to their new "rank", then that goes against what xda is all about. People here help others because they want to help, not because they want a higher "rank".

I just wanted to make a point here, which I guess the admin must be unaware of.
Personally having been here at XDA since 2007, I still use the "XDA classic" skin. However I recently was using the "XDA 2010" skin, and noticed something unusual about the differences between the two skins when you report a post.
With XDA classic when you report a post it says this:
Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.
Click to collapse
However with the XDA 2010 skin it notes something completely different:
So you want to report a post. Please read this first!
If a member is being unruly or offensive OR if you want to request that a post/thread be moved/deleted,
you MUST contact the specific moderator of this forum directly via PM. Do not use the form below.
Here is a list of forum-specific moderators. [Link to Google Document]
Please only submit this form if you are reporting a copyright violation or if someone has violated another XDA rule.
Click to collapse
..and obviously if you are using TapaTalk or the XDA app, you don't get either of these messages.
I don't know how long this message in the XDA 2010 skin has asked members to not use the report button for offensive posts or misplaced threads, but this is news to me.
Please advise.
This was only put in place in the last few weeks. It's there to prevent users using the RP form for trivial issues such as posts in the wrong forum, or minor flaming/trolling issues, that can all easily be solved by a PM to the moderator allocated to that specific forum.
I'll flag to the admin that it's missing from the classic template.
Thanks. This change seems like it will only serve to make these "trivial" type of infractions more acceptable. In my personal opinion it's these trivial infractions which are making some of the forums here more of a garbage dump than the great info sharing site that xda once was.
It shouldn't as far as I can see...the person reporting just has to PM the forum mod, rather than submit the report using the form...nothing is different with regards to what is acceptable or not.
But it's a system that's being tweaked so there may be more changes down the track.
Thanks for the explanation.
We'll update classic.
There are a lot of features that 2010 has that classic doesn't, because we really don't support classic anymore. It's there for those that want to use it, but our data shows that 95%+ of XDA users on 2010.

The default skin for users is now XDA 2010 iirc. I believe you only get the old one if you were registered before that date.

That was kinda my point.
I'm glad the users like the 2010 skin, but xda just isn't the same to me without classic.
agree with indagroove. Chasing down forum mods via p.m. is quite a pain in the butt and there seems to be quite an increase in flaming/ language going on lately.
I don't even get the forum mod list, just that I need to contact the mod for the specific forum.
Too complicated now to bother, but it wouldn't suprise me to see people turned off of xda due to the flaming they are receiving just for asking questions.
You can just peruse the WP7 general forums to see how much flaming goes on (and the mods there have done a great job, but it gets out of hand quickly).
Just my 2 cents.

Applications for moderator are currently closed, but if you are interested go here and read everything all the way down to the bottom.
No offense dude, but you can't just join a forum, make 30 posts and ask to be moderator of a site for 4.5 million users.

I totally agree. Even if applications were open to become a moderator, I wouldn't even think about applying simply because I've only been here a few months and know that I wouldn't get accepted.

I mean, if you've been helpful by all means apply. But it's really hard to judge the quality of someone's posts by just 30 of them. People joining to become mods is common with very small forums where the admin will put up a thread saying, "APPLY HERE TO BE A MOD" to attract users. But not on a site like this. This is the most professional (by size and internet standing) forum I've been a part of. Personally, I have moderator experience but I wouldn't bother applying because I have a tendency to not sugar-coat things when a person is wrong. I'm calm and concise but for example, I have absolutely no patience for Marketplace scammers.
But anyways, I digress. Before you think of applying for a moderator position, make sure you have posts to back it up. And if you feel the need to post differently than you normally would just to become a moderator, don't bother applying because you can be demoted if you abuse your powers and talk down to people.

Yeah definitely. I totally agree, especially with the bit I've bolded. Even if I felt, at a later stage, that I was ready to apply for said position, I probably wouldn't be approved anyway. But to be perfectly honest, I'm more than happy just to be able to be a part of this great community and obviously I'll always continue to help out others when I can, regardless.

From experience, being a mod is cool at first, but having to deal with tons of reported posts becomes tedious. You would think being a moderator is better than being a regular user, but the truth is moderators are restricted in what they can say and what they can do. So I can call another user a douchebag, but if a moderator did that he'd put his position in danger. I can sell in the Marketplace, but a moderator (I think) can not.
