[Q] HTC One X refuses to factory reset! - HTC One X

Hi there,
After many days now I've been unable to get my phone to reset back to factory. I've followed many tutorials on this and other websites/forums with absolutely no success.
To cut a looooong story short I cannot change anything on my phone and it keeps restarting itself whenever it does anything remotely intensive.
If I delete a file, once it restarts (either manually or by itself) the file comes back.
If I change an alarm, delete a text message, add a phone number, after it restarts none of the changes have stayed.
The phone seems to literally have NO capability of keeping any changes made and restores back to exactly the same position it was in when the problem first began.
I have managed to get into the settings > factory reset and after it begins it restarts and I get the dreaded red triangle with exclamation mark in it.
I have tried the volume up + power button menu from here to try and factory reset it, doesn't work and just reverts back to the dead-state.
I have followed the unlock tutorials, which involve the unlock token from HTCdev and fastboot , this brings up the warranty warning and I can press yes to unlock the bootloader, but as soon as I select it, the phone restarts and puts it back into the dead-state (nothing has changed!)
Anyway ask me any questions and I'll get back with the information/results, I'm literally at my wits end with this so I really hope somebody can help!

Hi Thant,
Yeah I've seen it is a common error to get the 'Too Many Links' thing. But for most it seems to atleast unlock their phone, which for me it does not.
I did read somewhere about uninstalling HTC Sync while trying to perform the unlock, I tried this, with no success.
I will try the unlock process again tonight, retreive a new code and change the USB cable out.
When you say at the end there 'Use latest drivers from HTC' - you mean installing the latest HTC Sync and then Uninstalling it before I attempt another unlock procedure, right?

[Q] unable to install custom recovery

I was able to unlock the bootloader following the instructions on HTCDev. However, I am now unable to install a custom recovery. I have tried using both the 'fastboot' and the 'PC36IMG.zip' methods with the 'AmonRA-v2.3-hausmod_revA', and the 'PC36IMG_ra-supersonic-4.3-smelkus-ics',
When using the Fastboot method the recovery seems to flash, but afterwards, when I navigate and select 'recovery', the device sticks in the splash screen that reads 'htc EVO 4G'.
Here is the Terminal output from an example:
c-s-MacBook-Pro-15:~ c$ fastboot devices
HT08******27 fastboot
c-s-MacBook-Pro-15:~ c$ fastboot flash recovery PC36IMG_ra-supersonic-4.3-smelkus-ics.img
sending 'recovery' (4140 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.475s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 1.775s]
finished. total time: 3.250s
c-s-MacBook-Pro-15:~ c$ fastboot erase cache
erasing 'cache'...
OKAY [ 1.227s]
finished. total time: 1.227s
When I use 'PC36IMG.zip' file to the root of the SD method, I get 'main version is older. Would you like to reboot?''
If I change 'mainver: 1.00.000.0' to 'mainver: 4.67.651.3' in the 'android-info.txt' file inside the zip (like suggested elsewhere), I get 'Parsing PC36IMG.zip...', then nothing.
It does read 'ÚNLOCKED' at the top of the bootloader screen now, and I checked md5 sums.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
The Phone no longer boots up properly. Sticks in boot-loop when not booting to bootloader. It's a Sprint device. Was having issues with seemingly random powering down. Was able to boot after unlocking bootloader, but now doesn't (may have úninstalled' necessary 'bloatware').

[Q] Help Needed - Currently Bricked HTC One X

Hi guys,
I have had my HTC One X for over a year and love it. (This handset was a warranty replacement by Vodafone as the original failed on me!)
At the weekend the handset crashed (just froze when I had an app open), I left it for a while and then after 5 mins of waiting gave up and did a reset (Volume down and power for 10 seconds).
Since then it has been stuck in a loop with opening to just the bootloader.
It now also turns on as soon as connected to charge! Therefore to get any charge into the handset I am currently running the charging script via ADB:
@echo off
:start
fastboot getvar battery-voltage
fastboot reboot-bootloader
ping /n 6 localhost >nul
goto start
I have read plenty of pages on here, so know what I should be doing (correct me if I'm wrong):
1. Unlock the Bootloader
2. Flash a recovery eg. Philz
3. Flash new ROM to restore handset to working operation.
I have tired both drivers suggested by people here and drivers from the HTC website both seem to allow my PC to talk to the handset via ADB and Fastboot.
My problem comes in that I cannot unlock the bootloader! I have tried at least 20 times to no avail! I have tried both getting new unlock_code.bin files from HTC to no luck. (One thing I have noted is that every time I get the handset to generate a request code its different, is this normal?)
The process I have tried is:
c:\HTC>fastboot oem get_identifier_token

Now before the Fastboot says failed on the screen of the device is the accept or decline options (as expected). I choose accept via the volume key and press the powerbutton to select. The phone then restarts. The problem is it remains locked and I cannot flash a new recovery!
If it try I get:

Problems With My M8

Hello Friends:
I've a big problem on my M8: It doesn't load S.O and remains only in fastboot mode. Yesterday, when I arrived to my home, suddenly reboots and stayed in fastboot mode. I share with you screen captures of my M8 ASAP. I tried to install in fastboot mode a stock RUU but it gives me error code in the bootloader process.
Please, i need your help or any advice to know how to fix it.:crying:
Many thanks and salutes from Chile.
I can't load SC yet...the forum won't let me do it. :crying:
What CID, hboot, radio, number, OS number (in bootloader)?
What is the filename for the RUU you tried?
What is the specific error message when running the RUU? Try running it a 2nd time (not unusual for it to fail the first time).

I asked for the filename, that isn't a filename. I asked for a reason, since folks often think they have the right RUU, when in fact is completely the wrong one.
But probably irrelevant anyway. Based on the error message, you may have a fried emmc.

I haven't seen those error messages before, so maybe somebody here with more knowledge can chime in.

with me is RUU_M8_WHL_L50_SENSE60_SPCS_MR_Sprint_WWE_4.25.651 .18_Radio_1.09.20.0209_NV_SPCS_1.52_003_release_44 6215_signed_2
but cant have a way of flashing it because it doesn't reboot to boot loader!
please help me on how to run through this.
much appreciated.
In the first lines you say it boots to H-Boot and in the last lines you say it doesn't boot to the bootloader.
Hboot and bootloader are the same. So where does it boot to and where does it not ?
Put it in the hboot/bootloader - fastboot USB menu and execute the RUU.exe from the PC .....
For a ruu you don't have to be in the fastboot oem rebootRUU mode

sorry, but i'd always think H-boot is one where i choose between options, whilst boot-loader is the dark screen where's the progress bar during a flash operation!
putting it right, the machine never reboots to RUU mode.
thanks for the info.
You don't have to be in the RUU mode at all to execute the ruu. If you have the ruu.exe you can do it like i previous posted, if you have the ruu.zip you can do it via the external SD card by renaming the zip file. Can't remember the exact name. Check for RUU.zip via sd card.
Thanks much Mr. Hofs for the support, lemme get with the zip option.,, will post results as soon

HTC m8 phone keeps booting into fastboot mode

hello,
after root my phone
every time i try to put it in recovery mode it goes back to fastboot mode ..
even if i tried to flash a recovery on it , it would boot to fastboot mode
even when trying to install a official htc software update it just boots into fastboot ..
now i want to get it back to stock..
please help me !!
Need more info.
What version SuperSU? What version TWRP?
What "official update" file did you use? Was it an OTA or an RUU (list the exact file name)?
Also, do fastoboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).

In addition to the fastboot output, I asked 4 questions, none of which you answered.
You have the M8 eye, not the "standard" M8. Far as I can tell (not many folks on xda have the "eye") you need a special version of TWRP for this version. You can try the right version TWRP, and flash SUperSU again, see if that helps. No idea if this version TWRP will work on not (can't personally vouch for it): https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/m8-eye-recovery-root-t3159648
Depending on what you did to the phone by flashing the wrong TWRP, it's hard to tell what the proper way to proceed.

hi
can i have stock recovery download link in that phone pls
I have a similar issue, but with a standard M8
£10 off ebay, so not expecting ,much (also means no known history) . 1 week old noob reading here and flashing phones
1) only boots to fastboot, and even does this when you leave it powered off, but charging.
2) select hboot, then to recovery, recovery doesn't run, just resets back to fastboot eventually, after screen goes white not black.
3) can partially speak to phone in fastbook and get versions ok (included below)
Getver all as below:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>
(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 3.19.0.0000

4) never been able to boot to full o/s so not in developer mode, so cant get response in adb (and dont know how to use this anyway)
5) tried RUU.exe - fails with usb error after it tries to restart bootloader
6) tried ruu.zip from memory card - fails with partition update fail
7) tried fastboot recovery image 6.12.401.4 and it fails to write - error is 'remote:signature verify fail'
8) random google lead me to fastboot oem reboot RUU which does this:
E:\android tools>fastboot oem rebootRUU
...
(bootloader) Error: Command never completed
(bootloader) Error: Command timeout error
(bootloader) Error: Command completed with errors

aim is to get a standard phone working again
Thanks

ok got my unlock token, seemed to flash it, but no status change/reaction on phone and rebooting still shows locked
E:\android tools>fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin
sending 'unlocktoken' (0 KB)...

4) never been able to boot to full o/s so not in developer mode, so cant get response in adb (and dont know how to use this anyway) That is correct, you will not be able to use adb unless you can boot to OS or alternately TWRP custom recovery. So you are basically limited to fastboot in the current condition.
5) tried RUU.exe - fails with usb error after it tries to restart bootloader There isn't a valid exe format RUU for your version number (6.12.401.4) so you are probably using the wrong RUU. What is the version number or file name for the RUU.exe?
6) tried ruu.zip from memory card - fails with partition update fail Exactly what partition(s) is it failing to update? What is the version RUU you are using? The only valid one for your version would be the RUU.zip from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926626&postcount=6
7) tried fastboot recovery image 6.12.401.4 and it fails to write - error is 'remote:signature verify fail' You can't flash an unsigned recovery image, unless the bootloader is unlocked. It also seems you are trying to flash stock recovery, and I don't see how that is going to help your current condition.

I think your best bet right now, is to try the correct RUU.zip which I linked above.
