I'd like to get notifications on my watch, ie. text, incoming phone calls, voice mails, Pandora, etc. but the Google Now cards really get on my nerves. I don't want steps, time to work, stocks, etc. showing up on my watch when I don't need them. It partially blocks my watch-face. I would much rather just have my watch-face only be interrupted for notifications and not Google Now. I would like to be able to see steps, time to work etc. only if I ask for it by ie. swiping down, or up.
How can I turn Google Now off??? Can I hide the Google Now cards unless I swipe??? :cyclops:
Thanks! :good:

Gotcha, so you are asking for the same thing we all are, or at least 90% of us. I haven't found a way to have the cards stay hidden and not block the face without muting or swiping away.

According to this article from Google (https://support.google.com/androidwear/answer/6056843?hl=en) you can already do exactly what you're looking for. All you need to do is turn off Google Now on your phone
Assuming that you like Google Now, then I don't think it's possible yet.
I did this exact thing. I turned off Google Now on my HTC One M8 and it stayed off my watch. Everything is still fully functional, i just dont get unwanted cards like steps, minutes to home, weather etc.
Im sure it saves a ton of battery too.
I don't really use Google now note I will also be turning it off. Hope it does save battery. So if we turn it off, since it doesn't count steps, that should turn the pedometer off?

Did you notice a battery improvement after disabling google now?

yeah google now is annoying, i only go to it when i want to on my phone. How do you dismiss google now on the moto 360 without cycling through all the cards?

lol make sure you have google now on your phone enabled. It should show cards by default
If you go into:
Google Now 'settings' > Customize > Everything Else > ...
You will see multiple cards that you can disable, for instance I don't need to see weather updates each time I wake the screen -- I live in southern California. Just choose "No" for anything weather related, etc.. This applies to many things without completely disabling Google Now.

I want my phone to vibrate or make a noise every couple of minutes if I have a new notification. I'm not always able to hear / feel it the first time and the only vibration setting I can seem to find is only two quick pulses.
I also noticed that the green status light doesn't flash if I get a text message, where if I have an email to my gmail account it does. Is there any way to change this?
I feel like I have to check my phone all the time without these.
Have a look at Tasker. I use it to watch for certain notifications and then play a sound or do something else to get my attention, without me having to look at the phone all the time. Telling it to wait for x time before the next action is also possible (and a whole lot more).

That's frustrating... Since tasker is about $7 I have to buy an app to provide functionality that my previous basic cheap phone had. I also found that there used to be a nice free app called 'MissedCall' that you could do it with, however it's no longer on the market. GRRR

There's a 'missed call deluxe' for $1
Or there's Missed Reminder which is free.
I think that's exactly what I'm looking for! Sweet thanks!
My recommendation is Light Flow - There is a free version in Market, perfect customization possible: set different LED Colors for Calls, SMS, Mail, Low Battery etc, set different repeating sounds, vibrations...
Not sure if you guys have seen it but the Illumination Bar app by rundgong can be used to keep the softkey touchpad lights always on if the screen is on. So basically the lines under the touchpad symbols will always be lit if your screen is on which makes it much easier to hit the right symbol in the dark.
Can also use it to have those lights act as another notification light for various apps like sms, email, missed calls and more. Check it out.

after flashing to ics I'm having issues with it...so I uninstalled it.
the app asks you to enable it in accessibility, after doing so...on browser (dolphin) "talk back" likes to read everything aloud and I don't have it enabled. As soon as I disable Illumination Bar Notification in accessibility the problem goes away. it seems enabling in accessibility doesn't make a difference.
Next issue, recently the led lights don't want to turn off... its seriously drained my battery and on charger it heats up to 106F

If you 're talking about the led its supposed to flash for notifications. If you're talking about navigation buttons they're probably flashing because you have notifications turned on. Turn that feature off. I just use the app for keeping them on when screen is on.

Because this app is also used for notifications for SMS/MMS. So in order for it to know when to flash for said incoming SMS/MMS, it has to be able to read them. (Not read their contents...Just read that one has been received.)
Uhhhh.... from my understanding, the receive function is for knowing if there is a mms or sms.
Reading allows the content to be "read".
Right?

Off topic, but Battle.net will give you back your stuff. And if you don't have one, spend the few dollars for the authenticator... Or if you don't wanna spend the money, get the one for your phone from the PlayStore.

I've not had it work once yet. The mic works as if I manually launch it everything seems fine.
I've tried restarts, factory resets & all the above. I'm pretty close to returning in all honesty as the voice launch is a huge deal for me!
I use my Huawei Watch with a OnePlus One on stock COS12.1 and have the same problem.
A lot of times when I use the watch to say "Okay Google" it will tell me it's disconnected. The only work-around I found was to quickly wake up the phone and it would start working right away. It seems like the internet pauses if my phone has been idle too long. I receive notifications in real time so I don't know what's really causing it.
I had the same problem with the huawei and a dutch HTC one M8.
The problem was gone after changing "Google voice typing primary language" from dutch in english.
And teach Google the sound of my voice in "OK Google" detection =>> From any screen.
Try turning off the restricted data for google app and google play services under Data Usage in settings.

Something I found out the hard way. I was giving Bixby a chance (ok, seeing if I could find funny question/response combinations), and at some point the long-press on the button stopped working.
Solution: Your settings panel MUST be in simple mode for it to work. Seems a little dumb. But anyway.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I actually like Bixby. I also love Google assistant but Bixby can to a lot of things on this phone that Assistant can't. Bixby can do most anything with phone settings that assistant can't. It has also not failed me in searches, navigation, and other commands I throw at it. It can't carry a conversation like Assistant can but I have friends for that [emoji6]

Overall, Bixby is a new toy, not proving super useful if there's ANY background noise. I've just been using it with the push button & talk mode, and it seems very sensitive and picks up all spoken words from anyone nearby.

I remapped the Bixby button to instantly launch the camera. Best thing I've done on a phone in a long, long time! Phone doesn't have to be unlocked either and it's instant. Same here! At first, before I actually started really using it, and investigating others that tried to get it to work, it was frustrating(I don't use the Hi Bixby command, but just the button and talk).. But once I started training it in every location I am usually at, with background noise and all (it only took a few seconds each time, when I was bored and had a moment), it has been great! It does things that no other assistant can, as far as integrating with the phone(along with some of the same Google type stuff, but I never found that useful honestly)... There are a lot of commands and of course it's going to take time to learn them.. But I use Bixby multiple times a day, every day now!

Perhaps I don't talk fast enough for Bixby. With S-Voice command and my BT earpiece, I was able to create an appointment while driving without an issue. It worked nearly 100% of the time. However, with Bixby, I barely can get out half the phrase: "Create an appointment for Steve @ 10am tomorrow morning" before it cuts me off. UGH! Frustrating to say the least. This leaves me with a partial appointment on the screen that I have to pick up to finish.
But last night I discovered just how useless Bixby can be. I was grilling food and wanted a timer set for 4 minutes. I asked Bixby to "Start a timer for 4 minutes". What did it do? It brought up the timer and set it for 4 minutes, BUT IT DIDN'T START! Seriously? So much for hands free usage. After messing with it, I said forget it and used Google Assistant do to the same. It worked, set the timer and automatically started, without having to touch my phone a second time. I miss S-Voice, but I'm really beginning to hate Bixby.
My other annoying feature about Bixby is there are no audible voice replies. I say "Call the wife". Sometimes it works, sometimes it may not hear me correctly and doesn't speak to me asking for more input. It's on the screen, but not in my ear. Someone at Samsung needs to understand the object behind voice commands is to be HANDS FREE. This means it should not require you to pick up your phone to confirm something. At least S-Voice worked pretty good for that. I really wish there was a way to go back to that software instead. And no, I don't have the "Hi Bixby" feature turned on. I don't like anything listening to me all the time.
Two Verizon Note 8s in this house. Neither one is handling notifications well. We're coming from two Note 4s that never had any issues with notifications.
Issues:
1. I have twitter, facebook, gmail installed and am using the Verizon messenger app. My phone generally makes sounds when I get a notification, but the notification light only blinks every once in a while. I don't use AOD, so I rely on the notification light to tell me when I have notifications. There have been times when my phone has been idle for an hour or two where I don't get notifications until I turn on the screen.
2. Wife's phone. She gets a lot more notifications than I do. She is having problems with notifications not coming in after the phone sits idle for a few hours. Once the phone screen is turned back on, all of the notifications come rushing in and she gets a ton of alert sounds in a row.
I have not been able to figure out what's going on with this. I checked to make sure that do not disturb is turned off. Neither one of us use it.
Is this a software issue, or something that we're not doing correctly? On Note 4, notifications just worked. There wasn't anything special needed.
Thanks

It may be a software issue. this affects the S8/S8+ also. More and more reports on notifications not coming through especially text.

So, if it is on the S8/S8+, then it's unlikely that they'll ever do anything useful to fix it?
Notifications are the one thing that I hate about this phone. They're completely unreliable and I have to turn on my phone to check and make sure that I didn't have anything come in. It's the one thing that makes me miss my Note 4.
I have this problem since Nougat on all my devices. For me it was the power saving features, forgot exactly which one, but it basically shut down the apps totally until I woke the phone up.
Just an edit to my post. When I pickup or awake the device all my notifications come through at once , is that what you are talking about ?
If you find a solution let me know.

It's on. It notifies sometimes, but if the phone has been in standby for a while, it stops. It definitely seems like a doze issue.
Same problems here
Notifications hit or miss. I have disabled all the power saving options, disabled all the restrictions on the individual apps, disabled all the data restrictions on the apps. Everything I could think of. Once the phone has been sitting for about 10 minutes on the desk, it seems to just go to sleep. Nothing comes through until I pick it up and start doing something with it. Then the notifications all seem to come in at once. This seems to hold true for any messaging app, email, etc. This is a horrible problem.

So since y'all are VZW and we're Sprint it has to be specific to the phone and not the network. this has me worried because it's text messages and everything if she hasn't touched the phone in an hour or more.

Same problem here.
Note 8 Germany DBT - no branding.
Since last week notifications wont come through when the device is idling. I have paired it with a Garmin Fenix 5x and set it to pass the important notifications via Smart Notifications to the watch.
This no longer works and I missed some important notifications. I have to change my behaviour to regularly check my phone and this is very annoying!
