You can always boot into recovery even if You format the /system and reboot. So as long as You have the rom.zip in Your phone, You have no worries as You can always boot into recovery and flash the rom.zip .
Turns out, that is true for locked bootloader since recovery is installed on it using a modification. This doesn't apply to the unlocked bootloader though.
Even i did formatted /system and Power off. When i turned it on ON i cant go in recovery mode
I m still stuck on Sony logo .. now tell me the reason why i m stuck on Sony Logo. I pressed all key volume up or tapping in sony Logo etc etc still cant go in Recovery Mode

Can anyone help me, My new Xperia S failed to boot after 10 days of perfect working. It suddenly switched off and upon restart repeatedly "SONY" and "Xperia" keep flashing.
No Warranty
Never fell or slipped
Tried SUS, Software repair
Tried Flash Tool but system not detecting the device.
Can anyone help me out please or is it dead..
Ravi
Retry with flashtool
Push power button and vol+ for 10 second( until vibrate 3 time) , next connect to pc with vol- buttone pressed and green led will apper. Next flash with flashtool. You're having a bootloop
It's very hard to brick Xperia, bootloader is quite unahackable,

Thanks but i tried and it failed

If you have unlocked bootloader flash any kernel with cwm, do wipe cache, dalvick cache, made a factory reset, and reinstall all with flashtool
If bootloader locked, download another stock Rom , when in flashtool tick all the box( also wipe data) , and flash

Nothing happens

Its still the same, Irritating and repeating SONY and Xperia logos.
So, you can't even connect your LT26i to your PC? It just powers up and goes into a never-ending bootloop?
Any are you SURE you're connecting your phone to your PC correctly (for FlashTool?)?
Like:
-start FlashTool and select stock FW to flash
-hold vol- (and only vol-, no power or other buttons)
-connect to USB, quickly (have the cable ready, just be quick, but don't be clumsy)
-flash the stock FW
Are you SURE you're doing EXACTLY like that?
Try installing adb drivers and using fastboot, flash the right kernel to sxs , then using cwm, wipe data , dalvik cache and fix permissions. Then reboot.

What are you flashing?
Sounds like a bad kernel problem to me. What rom were you on previously? Did you try flashing that one?

By ROM you mean - the software - It was ICS 4.0.4
6.1.A.2.45
I tried flashing that 2-3 times but nothing happened, how to solve kernel issue?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1729280
Flash that via fastboot and see if it works.
Also why isn't SUS working? Bootloader unlocked?
If u r in ICS, get a proper kernel.elf from net and for jellybean get the right .elf file
.
Seqrch and Download adb drivers along with fast boot from the internet for the Sony xperia s . ( to install adb drivers,
Check a YouTube video on " how to unlock boot loader xperia s part 1" ) use that video to install adb drivers.
see the video on how to open the fast boot command window.
Then with the right elf file (kernel) in the same folder as the fast boot, type fastboot boot flash kernel.elf
After u get a "done" message, type fastboot reboot
Then access the CWM by holding volume up button during boot(in the beginning)

Cm9 does not need flashing boot.img separately any longer, have you format system yet?

It's because he's now got cm9 boot and sony firmware. Just flash the cm9 zip in recovery

Hi,
I have a Xperia S and have unlocked the bootloader and rooted. I then used RecoverX to put CWM on. Then when I try to boot in to recovery (tapping sony logo as it boots), the screen goes black and nothing happens.
Anyone got any ideas?
Note that if I don't tap to go in to recovery the phone boots fine.
Cheers,
Iain
i think u must install custom kernel with CWM recovery or TWRP to get into recovery mode....

Go to flash boot and reflash kernel either TWRP or CWM. This should resolve the issue.

So if I flash a new kernel I can load in to that and then use it to load any ROM? Can you recomend a particular kernel? I've looked at some of the ones linked from the roll up and it's all a bit confusing to me - they all seem to say they are only for this rom or that rom.
Try doomkernel....http://d-h.st/qE0

Must be a problem with the recovery.. use sony emma flashtool to flash Advanced stock kernel for your firmware... check if your firmware is .200 or .211 or .96.. go to this link to download kernel..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2302393
check your firmware and download the appropriate kernel.. and flash via flashtool.. in fastboot mode.. and after flashing.. reboot and an amber light will show up on your notification light, then press volume + several times to enter CWM.. (just follow the steps in the link)
Good Luck..!! :fingers-crossed:
Hit thanks if I helped..

Hi,
I was trying to flash STOCK ROM.
After flashing the stock rom, I found that I lost IMEI numbers and bluetooth address.
So, I went back to recovery to flash the rom again, Android Bot with red alert was coming.
So, I used SP tools to flash the ROM again but now with "Format option" including boot loader also.
After that, phone is stuck in Micromax logo and am not able to access anything including recovery.
Pls help. </b>

Use SP tools again to download (flash) complete stock ROM again. This time, use "Firmware Upgrade" option.
To fix IMEI issue, install Android CDC Gadget Drivers and use MAUI Meta 3G tool. Use this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=-CokpIVGPBw
Hi GokulNC,
I tried flashing it but still its the same condition.
When I did a memory test from SP FLASH TOOL, it sayid NAND flash was not detected.

So, if your phone is booting up, it means you can access boot loader menu. Press Volume up+power button and choose fastboot mode. Unlock the boot loader and flash any ROM or Nandroid backup from anyone. Otherwise format all the partitions from ADB and try reflashing the stock ROM using SP Tools

You cannot just say that stock recovery is not working.
To work with stock recovery, you need to hold power button and press volume up bottom top access the options. That's how it works. Moreover, you cannot do much with stock recovery. Its features are limited. In this case, custom recovery helps
Can you tell why misc error comes when we install cmw recovery
