Want LTE on your Korean Note 2 sgh-i317 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

This may work on other devices and carriers having this same issue. And know were your phone was made to help others. Look under your battery to find were it was made
I started this thread cause over the past 2 years their has been speculation that it's the sgh-i317 made in Korea that's not getting LTE out of the box. I tried everything. Changing my imei, nv items, roms, modems, etc...
Turns out that I successfully was able to get LTE a 1 1/2 - 2 years ago but really didn't know exactly how I did it. I was helping @Trash213 and rediscovered what I had done. Turns out It's a provisioning error that happens when the sim is placed in that phone for the first time and messes up that line forever. Asking T-Mobile to refresh the provisions does not help but they may give you a free sim.
DO NOT PUT THE SIM CARD IN YOUR PHONE FIRST
The Sim card must first be installed into another
T-Mobile LTE device or registered on one
First thing you need to do, is put your note 2 in LTE all by dialing *#2263# and selecting lte band prefrance then selecting lte all.
Get a new T-Mobile Sim Card.
Or put your Sim card in another t mobile lte device and dial *#2263# select lte band preference and then select lte all. Hit home button got to settings more networks change default operater to manual. Then select t mobile to register it. Don't forget to change the band prefrance back to automatic. It's the first choice in *#2263# menu. If you are successful at fixing your Sim card you may skip the next step.
Once the T-Mobile phone boots go to
settings, about, status.
When you see your phone number ( you may have to reboot or make a phone call ) you can then power off the device and remove the sim card.
Put the sim card in the Korean made sgh-i317 and if you are in a strong LTE area it should come up first next to your signal bars.
If still no lte then hit home button go to settings more networks change default operater to manual. Then select t mobile to register it.
Check that you are getting LTE either by looking at the signal bars or by going to settings, about, status.
Once you see that you are getting LTE go back to phone dialer and type *#2263# and select automatic.

Hope this helps all those phones that couldn't get lte out of the box.

Lookin good, lookin good. Thanks for this, for those that are having this issue. Really made things quite simple.

Damn now if only I had a phone to put the new SIM inside. I've been trying forever to get LTE on this phone ?

Literally only take a few seconds. Once the phone number registers on the network it can come right out of the other persons phone and back into your phone. Bam LTE forever as long as you don't screw it up lol.

Lmfao. If he's cool he might just do that

While this may be great information, this is certainly not development since you didn't "make this" - moved to general where it belonged in the first place. @billb23ok - Take this as your warning - Please do not create threads in development sections without knowing if it's appropriate. Thanks.

Kinda harsh don't ya think? Just saying this is great info and might be the first time he ever posted a thread. Maybe he didn't know the RULES. Just saying you could have had a bit nicer approach to the situation. Sorry for his approach @billb23ok

I didn't really followed this method but i flashed this room

And i have s4 on which my phone was getting t-mobile lte and
when i changed the sim back to note 2 am getting lte even when it drops to 4g/3g it goes back to lte.
I'm happy with my note 2.

Is your note 2 made in china. Check under your battery.
This is for the note 2 i317 made in Korea that are having trouble connecting LTE at all with any rom or phone the sim is put into

I'm going to try this later on today. I'll get back to you with the results. There's a new T-Mobile store down the Street from where I live.

Thanks for the hint, and I tried that. However, when I select "LTE ALL", my phone shows "Unknown" under "Mobile Network Type" of the Device Status.
T Mobile just upgrades their LTE my area, and currently the 4G/LTE is very strong in my T Mobile S5 phone.
AT&T unlocked my SGH-i317 Note II last year after my contract ended. Therefore, I want to use with TMobile, but I can only connect up to 4G.
Do I need to upgrade its APN for the radio in order to receive LTE in my area? Thanks in advanced.

[1] LTE B2
[2] LTE B3
[3] LTE B4
[4] LTE B5
[5] LTE B7
[6] LTE B8
[7] LTE B17
[8] LTE B20
[9] LTE ALL
Any other idea, please? Thanks.
P.S.
I was briefly saw the LTE logo appearing under the 4G logo in a fraction of a second, and it disappeared until now.

I don't understand this part when I select 2 to erase the EFS the backup gets deleted too so option 4: Restore is not available so skipping that part I just restored the backup I did with the program which doesn't make the phone reboot so I did it manually and at this point I'm left back at the start as I just made a circle. Restoring the provided file and rebooting phone leaves me with an unknown IMEI. #06# displays " / 11" and a signal of UMTS still. At this point going into the service menu and selecting LTE ALL disables my data and puts me on an Unknown network that I cannot do anything on, when I manually search for a network I get T-Mobile; 311660; AT&T; Verizon and selecting T-Mobile just says Unable to connect. Try later. Switching the band selection back to automatic phones goes back onto UMTS like I did nothing (other than make my IMEI null)

select t Mobile after registering it should get lte

The sim card has already told t Mobile it's a 4G only device. Which is why I started this thread. But I was able to fix the problem with the sim card by putting in another tmobile lte device then back to mine. Instead of replacing it. Try this and let me know how it goes .
I have the note 4 now and my wife kept the note 2 i317.
that phone I have at imei 0/ unknown and 4..4.2 Modem and
conch rebublic 4.3 and the sim would switch to 4G with the original imei. And when ever I put it in someone's phone it would only get 4g. So I registered it on another tmobile lte device and put the sim back in my phone registered it and lte worked.
I was able to fix sim with above steps.

How do you toggle to 3G only?

I am actually asking for my friend, he has the at&t Galaxy Note 2. I suggested to him to see if he gets better battery life on 3G. He uses his phone a lot at work like 4 hours straight on 4G.
I assume the "phone info" app will work? That's what I use for my S3. I'm on a CDMA network so I have no clue for at&t's 3G. What should he toggle it to for 3G only? And does it make any difference in battery life? I'm not sure if he gets HSPA+ or LTE.

It must be restricted by sim card. I tried it with non att sim on Clean 2.1 rom (which, I think, is att based) and it works. Att sucks whichever way you look at it.
On the other hand, I don't think battery life is so much different. For me the main reason to do it is that I don't want the phone to pick up stronger 2g instead of weaker 3g.

I have tried several different APN's and none give me data. AT&T has eliminated the GSM toggle menu under mobile networks. It should have:
GSM/HSPA/LTE
GSM Only
HSPA Only
GSM/HSPA auto
How can we turn off LTE? and use only "4G" (HSPA+) My phone sits in my desk drawer all day at work and I'd rather not have it on LTE killing the battery. I'd also rather NOT turn off mobile data as then I can't receive e-mails or picture messages.
AT&T really is doing more harm than good by eliminating the GSM toggle menue under mobile networks.
SOLUTION:
1) With phone on, take off back cover and press your SIM card so it releases from the spring. It won't come all the way out as it's blocked by the battery. This seems fine - I didn't bother trying to force it out as I didn't want to break anything...
2) Once you see the message that the SIM card is removed, go to the dialer and dial *#2263#
3) You should see a menu with band selections. The current setting is "Automatic". If you switch to "GSM All", you will be EDGE (2G). If you switch to "WCDMA All", you will be on HSPA+ (3G, though AT&T and others call it 4G).
4) Press the SIM card back into place until it clicks. For whatever reason the phone will not recognize it until you reboot. Upon reboot you should see your new setting in effect.
after I flash the Jedi X3.3 the option for is gone

Does this pulling out of the SIM card work? has anyone done it?
I have a unlocked (via AT&T unlock code) AT&T Note 2 (SGH-I317) and a t-mobile SIM card with t-mobile unlimited 4G. I can't get 3G/4G most of the time. I am stuck on EDGE most of the time. Sometimes I get 3G/4G, but I loose it (maybe i am in the refarming area in Los Angeles, but if so, i should consistently get 3G/4G, right? ). will the pulling the sim card out thing force my unlocked AT&T Note 2 to stay on the HSPA+ band?
please help/
Yes pulling the sim works but I cannot get the sim to disconnect without pulling the battery so here is what I do and it works every time. (it worked with my i717 also)
Turn on airplane mode and power down the phone
Pull the battery and sim card and replace the battery only
Power on the phone and turn airplane mode off (your phone should say "no sim")
Touch the phone icon and on the keypad enter *#2263#
Select the band you want, then select the ALL selection (GSM ALL etc..) then back key out.
(if you want to check to make sure the setting took, just enter the *#2263# again and you should see and * next to the band)
Put the phone back into airplane mode and power down
Replace the sim card and battery, restart, turn off airplane mode and you will now be locked to your selected band
Keep in mind you will be on your selected band until you repeat the process and change to another band or select automatic, i.e. if you are locked to 4g and go to an area that is not 4g you will not get a signal.
THANKS!!! it worked on my SGH-I317 AT&T Note 2. I am getting 83ms ping, 1.6-3.6mbps down and 0.2-0.8mbps up. I'll keep trying and see if it will stay on 3G/4G. but for now, thanks. the airplane mode workaround really worked. : - )
fyi, you don't have to switch to airplane mode. just turn off phone, take out sim, turn phone back on and follow the step to get into menu & make band selection. after done, turn off phone, insert SIM & turn phone back on. you are set.

UMTS:3 and not LTE?

So I have always had Lte on my Galaxy but now under mobile network type it says I have UMTS:3. Can anyone tell me what that even means. Also my moms house as well as my dads house both have LTE coverage, yet I can longer get LTE. When I put data on my network changes to HSpAP:15 which I also dont know what means, and yet it says 4G on the status bar. Has anyone ever had any of these problems or could enlighten me on what all of these mean?
Need a little more info, please. What ROM are you using, any mods made to your phone, stuff like that.
Yea, need more info.
I'm going to leave the book here for someone else to write, but when not on LTE, it's not unusual for your phone to read UTMS3 or HPSAP15 and for your phone to read as 4G when on HPSAP15. It's technically still 3G, more like 3G and 1/2, but ATT choose to call it 4G. You will usually see this on ATT stock ROMS and some custom ROMS, but will find it correctly reading as 3G on other custom ROMS.
Sorry for having little info there. But Im on stock rom with stock kernel. Im rooted and have done a few mods to it but thats about it. Its just weird because on ATT LTE map I am clearly surrounded by LTE coverage but am not getting it. Im going to try and put my SIM card in my sisters phone and see if I get LTE on that.

Is that going to be the first time you've removed the SIM card?
Search "how to bypass RAT restriction"on the s3 and bypass it. Then use dialer code *#2263#. Select lte, lte all. This could get your lte back. You could also do the same got gsm and wcdma while your in there. After you finish your selections, reboot.

That's the direction I was going when I asked about the SIM card. Removing the SIM can temporarily remove the RAT restrictions, which can allow the settings to be changed.
The RAT restrictions can be removed first by dialing *#197328640#, then hitting the numbers 11865.
Then you can dial the user code *#2263# then hit 1 for Automatic.
Please do not select lte. You cannot make calls on AT&T yet on LTE. The phone always switches back to 4G or whatever when there is a call, but never LTE). If you select LTE, then it will always be on LTE, and now you will have LTE and no phone calls. You need to select Automatic, so that the phone can dictate to you and call all the shots the way AT&T intended.
I beg to partially differ. You should select all lte, to make sure those bands are active. If they aren't, automatic won't use them.

Not on Tw ROM atm. But i lost 4g data last week. Had to reselect All Lte. Also reselected All GSM and All WCDMA. Then selected Automatic. After that, everything worked right again. Lte was always lit up, until i made/received a phone call. After call, it went back up to lte.

Thanks for the directions shortydoggg, they were easy to follow. Unfortunately, I still only have Edge,.. I lost 4g after flashing 4.2.. Do you have any other suggestions?

Check your imei in settings. If it's a zero, you'll need to inject it back in; there's a guide for that.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
I refer to my original instructions, with a little more detail. After bypassing RAT restrictions:
Dialer code *#2263#
Select WCDMA
Select Wcdma all
Back
Select LTE
Select LTE all
Back
Select Automatic
Back key on the phone
Reboot
You must be on a Touchwiz ROM and use the stock phone dialer.

I have the same problem since i flashed a custom rom last week and i lost my imei too, i just inject it again but now my data and signal are always down i also fallowed ur instruction but the problem continuous, this phone is driving me crazy :silly:

Can not connect to 4G/3G.

Hello there, I'm in need of your help again.
My SGH-M919 has a problem, it cannot connect to 3G/LTE (Not even EDGE). My carrier uses the 850 mHz band for GSM and 1900 mHz for UMTS, so the phone should be able to use them. The thing is, it doesn't. It only connects to GPRS and the signal is very erratic and weak (Usually 2-3 bars). Sometimes I get SMSs from my carrier saying that I missed like 5 calls when my phone never rang once. I live in a zone with good 3G coverage, so it's not the signal.
I'm currently rooted on Android 4.4.4 (NH7). I already tried selecting "1900 WCDMA" in the *#2263# service menu but that only causes the phone to lose all the signal (And it's a problem to change it back, without signal the service menu doesn't work and I cannot change the Network Mode in Settings).
I've tried to select "WCDMA only" mode before, but my signal just goes to zero (The circle with the slash) before changing back to "LTE/WCDMA/GSM (Auto connect)" automatically.
I also cannot use the Network Operators option. Using "Search now" makes it search for a few seconds before showing the message "Error while searching for networks". The "Select automatically" one shows the message "Unable to connect. Try later" and then connects back to my carrier (Movistar)
My APNs are configured (They did it themselves when I inserted the SIM, but I've configured them manually before). The SIM card works, I tried it in another phone and it got 3G immediately, I also tried another SIM card on the GS4, but the result was the same. Someone told me to upgrade to the latest firmware (NK2) while someone else told me to flash the MDL modem. (Is that even possible? I read something about KNOX blocking all downgrades after 4.3).
Since I couldn't find any direct solution to the problem, I'm recurring to you.
Thanks.
P.S: I didn't change the LTE Band Preference option in the Service Menu because the last time someone messed with it, my IMEI/Baseband went completely nuts, I thought the EFS got corrupted, but they magically appeared everytime I enabled the Airplane Mode (So I was able to select Automatic in the ServiceMenu and they got fixed). Also, I don't live in a LTE area although once during a very strong thunderstorm, I got 4G for a few minutes before going back to G).
*bump*
Any ideas?

I've tried with and without it, it doesn't make a difference anyway.
Does it show you have an ìmei # other than all zeros?
Don't post it just a yes or no.

My IMEI is fine, the phone connects to the carrier network but it stays on GPRS (and the signal is always dropping)

I'll try that later. Will I have to re-root and re-install TWRP after flashing NK2?
I have a similar problem with my M919 on the Tmobile network. Using the *#2263# menu I can not get mine to work on WCDMA (4G) either. I can chose GSM /LTE only and my phone works normally but no 4G signal. If I chose WCDMA I get no signal. I can see it trying to connect and immediately dropping the signal. If I choose any option with WCDMA included it has erratic signal and will lose the signal most of the time when I try to make a call. So basically I have the choices of GSM only or GSM/LTE only. Before I discovered the secret menu I was stuck with GSM only in the phone's settings. This has been going on for months. Tmobile changed my SIM card and it didn't help. I've rooted and unrooted my phone (using autoroot) and even tried different modems (even worse signals) and now am back to stock rooted NK2 firmware and modem. I have given up and decided to get another phone (not an S4). My wife's S3 gets great 4G signals in the same location by the way. I wonder if anyone knows why our phones can't use 4G. I am beginning to think it's a hardware problem but I'm way out of warranty on mine.

US Verizon Note 4 on Canada Wind Mobile

Hello XDA-ers!
I have an old Verizon Note 4 that just got out of the contract payment, and now want to give it to a friend who is off in Canada! His current carrier is Wind Mobile (which based on frequencycheck.com and their site, uses UMTS AWS-1 (1700/2100) ).
I have unlocked my bootloader and rooted my Note 4, and even got Cyanogenmod (what I am running now) working on it. I went through the thread on the Samsung S5 XDA forum to unlock additional 3G and LTE bands, but had dubious results (the first LTE NV section didn't persist after reboot while the second one did.)
After all of that, I popped in my friend's T-Mobile SIM Card/my mother's Project Fi SIM, and LTE worked! LTE Discovery said it was on Band 4, so I thought all was well! Until I tried to make a phone call. One of two things would happen when I would make a call based on what settings I messed with (mentioned below in the *#*#4636#*#* menu): It would either say "Dialing..." forever, or start making short high-pitched beeps before hanging up while saying "Call Ended."
According to LTE Discovery, there was no GSM network it was attached to. And when I tried to change the cell network in the *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone settings -> Preferred network or the Settings -> Cellular Network -> Network Type (LTE, GSM, etc) to something relating to WCDMA/GSM, it would just go back to the previous one I had chose/a similar one that did not have either of the two (exceptions to this were some with LTE, then Global and the ones with a lot of networks).
If someone could please guide me through these last few steps, I'd be so happy!
Thanks in advance,
- Tony

US998 Hidden Menu LG V30/V30+

EDIT: If the dialer code doesn't work for you, see this post for another way to access the Hidden Menu.

US998 Hidden Menu LG V30/V30+
So, I went looking for the hidden menu dialer code for the US998 LG V30.
https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/comments/75tbsc/lg_v30_and_others_engineering_menu/
*#546368#*998#
That's a different menu, and doesn't provide the band locking option and you can break your CA and LTE combos if click the wrong thing. Just wondering if that code works. You can get to the Engineering Mode, though.

Found it. Literally you copy and paste this code into your dialer. Do not hit "call". Once you paste it in, the menu instantly pops up.
Unlike for the T-mobile variant, it doesn't let you checkmark off all the bands you want -- at least with AT&T Prepaid, which I have. I think the bands it shows it dependent upon the SIM card you have in your phone.
I was able to click each LTE band my phone IS showing and with one exception (LTE band 30), a box popped up and "Success". Whatever that means.
I think if I had AT&T postpaid it might show more bands. (AT&T Prepaid doesn't allow domestic roaming, but does have roaming in some other countries.) Or if I had T-mobile it might show different bands, like even LTE band 66. Since I have AT&T Prepaid -- with no U.S. roaming -- it's not going to show me a band I'll never use? At least that's my working theory. While the dialer code is the same, possibly options are different depending carrier/SIM card[/B]
You can also go into the Service Menu and turn off MOISTURE DETECTION. Just an FYI for those who need to know that.
I did go into the some of the VoLTE/Wi-Fi calling settings. While VoLTE was already enabled, VoWifi (Wi-Fi calling was not). I enabled it. As an AT&T Prepaid customer, we don't get that yet, and I don't really need it. (I have Google Voice.) But I checkmarked it to enable all that. Didn't seem to break my phone.
I took some screenshots to get into the LTE bands menu, but I didn't take screenshots of the other stuff. Of course, be careful! You can break functionality.

LTE BANDS on AT&T Prepaid
Okay anybody know how to get the LTE band selector back to automatic? Apparently clicking on one of the bands chooses only that band. I am stuck on band 12 which is prevalent in the Atlanta area, but I would like all bands.
By clicking on band 30, I had no LTE whatsoever . I had to click on band 12 to get some LTE signal.
In that menu, I do not see a method to choose a batch of bands. I only see a method to choose one band at a time. Whereas before I mess with the menu I had several bands automatically depending upon signal strength.
I rebooted my phone, hoping the band selector was only for that one session . But still I'm only seeing LTE band 12. I don't want to reset my phone. This got to be away to make it go back to automatic.

Whatever I just did, now I can get other LTE bands. I'm now on LTE band 2.
But I didn't choose LTE band 2, it just found the strongest signal. Whew.
Thought I was going to have to reset my phone.

Funny, i did the same thing this morning when playing with the menus. I thought it was a checkbox and saw a 'SUCCESS' toast show up on clicking. Oh no , what have I done.
I rebooted the phone and everything seems to be back to normal.
A slightly different code for the AT&T version of V30
The code didn't work on my AT&T version, BUT!!!!!! ........ I noticed how the last 3 digits correspond to the unlocked version and substituted them with 931 which corresponds to H931/AT&T phone version and voila!! I get into the hidden menu.
So for AT&T version of V30 the code is *#546368#*931#
Enjoy!
The menu looks a bit different though e.g. band selection is not there

I'm still concerned I may have done something to prevent my LTE bands from automatically switching properly. I've been on LTE Band 2 for two days now and only LTE band 2. Normally traveling to and from work (30 miles down I-75 and across I-285 perimeter) I'll switch bands, according to LTE Discovery app.
But today I'm heading into north Georgia where LTE band 4 is prevalent, so we'll see...
reposting here also as it's very relevant to the US998 hidden menu.

Hey All,
I unfortunately messed around with the LTE Band Settings on my US 998 (US Cellular) in the hidden menu and am now worried that the phone is locking to specific bands. Right now, no matter how many times I reset network settings and restart the phone, it will only lock to one band (12 or 4). The lock is dependent on which LTE Band Setting I select. Anyone know where in the hidden menu I can reset the band selection? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Please tell me exactly what you did to fix the problem? When you factory re-set, did you allow Google to restore your data and apps? I really don't want to do a factory reset if I don't have to.
I've already tried airplane mode, as well as chosen other bands (I stick on them unless I re-select LTE band 2.) As well as rebooted multiple times daily.
I've been stuck on LTE band 2 for 4 days now. I selected LTE bands in that hidden menu and it stays only on the one chosen. Before that I was stuck on LTE band 12, but 2 is better than 12 if I have to be stuck on one.

Unfortunately that doesn't help. It's the US998 menu. You click it, it chooses that band. You click another it chooses THAT band and only that band. It stays in the last band you chose and only that band.
I can select another band besides band 2, but I would then be just choosing another band to be stuck on. I did that initially when I was stuck on band 12. Now I'm stuck on band 2, which is better than being stuck on LTE band 12 in the Atlanta metro area.
I went up to North Georgia last weekend where AT&T LTE band 4 is prevalent, and I was on WEAK LTE band 2 the most of the time, and then on HSPA. I never switched to LTE band 4.
That's why I asked the guy exactly what he did to fix it. He said factory reset, but I would like his details. I don't want to completely reset my phone for nothing. If only a true factory reset will fix it, I'll wait until next weekend when I don't need my phone during the daytime.
Also, did he allow Google to restore data and apps?

Has anyone found a solution to this? I have tried a factory reset and it did not solve the issue. I also tried a couple things such as changing the RAT Selection to WCDMA ONLY (since VZW) and then LTE ONLY and then to LTE/WCDMA but that results in no service at all whereas I at least have service with WCDMA ONLY or LTE ONLY.
I imagine there should be a simple way to fix this as it is literally just disabling bands in the modem...it is just a matter of figuring out how.
same issue here. anyone succeeded in restoring the default settings? weird hidden menu on this Phone and keeps me frustrated...

Hey Chazz, sorry for the delay. I have notifications turned off. But yes, I had to do a factory reset from scratch. I didn't restore any settings and started with a clean slate. I then used LTE discovery to see myself connecting to different bands. Toggling airplane mode showed band 4 and 12.

Thanks for the answer. The V30 with the problem is now my backup phone, as I'm using a V30+ as daily phone. I didn't dare touch this menu on that one or my wife's V30.

Yeah, the US998 needs the T-Mobile hidden menu, where you can select all the bands you wish, not just one at a time. Very strange design choice from LG.
There is an option in the hidden menu to reset networks. Did you see that? Maybe that's what needs to be chosen?

Hmmm... very strange. I know I saw something before, but I can't find exactly what I remember.
Anyway, I see the R&D Factory Reset in the Hidden Menu. Is that some kind of super duper re-set? I don't know. It's in the Hidden Menu for a reason.
I also see Network Settings Reset in the the regular Settings menu. I don't have a SIM card in this phone, but if I did would it re-set ALL my network settings?

I think the Network Settings Reset in the regular settings menu is already covered by the factory data reset. Thanks for getting back to us though. I'm not entirely sure if Factory Data Reset worked for me or not. T-Mobile around where I live is mostly Band 4. I've looked through cellmapper for towers that had band 2 and were spotted recently, and as I drove by them I didn't notice my phone connecting to anything other than band 4.
