Hello,
Has anyone succeeded in changing the default font on their nexus 7? I have managed to change the font on my Samsung Galaxy S4 using Romtoolbox however it doesn't seem to be working on the Nexus 7
Any suggestions are welcome :fingers-crossed:
Easy. Root it. Use ifont. Romtoolbox (and apps associated) dont seem to work very well with n7.

The font I'm after is not on Ifont
Not to worry! Download it from the internet and extract the .ttf from the .zip (if it even comes in a .zip) than proceed to the custom section in ifont, press the message at the top, and browse for the .ttf

I am rooted and on Madhi ROM I've just tried and it doesn't work, but thankyou for the suggestion.
OK. I suggest playing with some different font apps. If that does not work, you can replace fonts in any root explorer. The directory is simply /system/fonts

I use an app called fonster, its great for system fonts.

This is a theme from CM6. I had it on an Incredible I believe. Anyway, LOVE the font. Sadly when I flashed the zip of it on CM7 RC2 on my G2, it didn't take. ANy ideas how to make it work?
hi,
I use an app called Absolute System to install fonts, there are about 200 to choose from including the one you looking for, which I believe is called Comfortaa. The app lets you download and install fonts quickly and easy with no need to mess about flashing stuff in recovery.
Your best bet is to do this:
1) Unzip the theme.
2) Extract the /system/fonts folder and put it on the root of your SD card.
3) Open your favorite root explorer.
4) Look at each file in the /sdcard/fonts folder.
5) Mount /system as read-write.
6) On your phone's /system/fonts folder, delete the fonts with the same names as the one from /sdcard/fonts.
7) Copy the fonts from /sdcard/fonts into /system/fonts.

Can any experts help me with my little problem on changing icons on user applications, not the system apps icons because i was able to do that manually..
I had successfully changed all the icons of installed user applications on my SGY.
What i did was open it with WinRar and go to res / drawable ldpi (36x36) or mdpi (48x48) or hdpi (72x72) folder & replaced each icons there with proper file name and size..
After i finished it, i copied all modified apps to sd card and tried to install it one by one, but it says "applications not installed"..
And now i wonder what's wrong with what i did? I was able to replace the icons in system apps manually using the method which i used with this one but this one fails!
Any suggestions or instructions?
Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!!!
After Editing You Have To Sign The App And Then Install It..
Try Zipsigner app... Might help...

I've tried that method before too, when I was modding widgets, and it just doesn't work. What worked for me though was same method, but had it signed again with this little tool I found here in xda. I'll link you later when I get on desktop.

Yeah, i totally forgot that there was a signing thing when modifying apks..
And Sir, can you please give me the link of that "little tool" you're talking about when you get back in your PC? Thanks so much!
Thank you to all who responded! I appreciate you all! Cheers!
I couldn't find the thread I found it from anymore so I can't link the source. But I attached the sign tool which I still have.
Basically you get the apk right. Rename it to zip, extract, delete META-INF folder and then replace whatever images you wanted. Zip it back up, rename back to apk.
To sign, extract the zip included here to a folder. Copy paste the modified apk to the root directory of the sign tool. Make sure only one apk file is in the folder. Run sign.bat and press any button when prompted.
If it signed successfully just install the apk, making sure you have the original one uninstalled.
On a side note, if you want to update the app to a newer version through the market, it will not work. You will have to uninstall the modded one, install from the market and then do the process above again if you still want to modify it.
There are other signing tools too, ones that could sign multiple apk's simultaneously but for some reason they've never worked for me. But you're free to try. Google for 'em.
I have tried this method manytimes
and it works everytime
are you replacingonly the icon in the app apk or any other files to
you have to sign the apk after modding
use the tool given by silvane
if the 7zip method dont work for you
you can use apktool to decompile and recompile the apk and then sign it
you are ready to go
Thanks @Silvane and @deadlylocker as well as others for helping me..
@Silvane: I already downloaded that "autosign" app this morning but i didn't know (phil. time) that it is necessary to delete the meta-inf folder while modding apks before i saw your post so i appreciate your effort of giving instructions! Thanks so much!
No problem.

ease help me. I just rooted my phone in the morning using cyanogenmon mod. I decided to download fonts but one of the fonts was an apk. So on my computer I click properties and changed it from .apk to .ttf then I put the file on my phone. I used Font installer(root) and selected the font, it told me it had to restart my device so I let it. It's been stuff on the Samsung Galaxy s2 screen
Why would you change a apk file to a ttf?? You do realize the apk file was/is an installation file for that specific font. You def. corrupted something. Restore back if you did a nandroid nackup, otherwise boot into recovery and do a clean reflash of whatever rom your on..

Apk is application file which cant be converted into font file. If you need some fonts you have to find ttf files.

APK stands for Android package I believe. The font was packaged into the apk file, all you had to do was install the .apk file and then select your font in display settings. Your phone is stuck because it can't find a font to display, you are stuck unless you pull all font files and push new ones or install the ROM all over again.

Not sure if this is in the right forum, but I just heard about ROM Toolbox and wanted to try it on my GNex. I installed a new boot animation, but when I rebooted my phone, it doesn't show the installed animation. All it shows is the android text with a light flashing behind it. Any help with this? Was going to buy the paid version once my Nexus 7 arrives, but I guess I'm not sure how to properly set the boot animation.
ROM Toolbox Pro gerfungled my boot animations on both of my phones, Galaxy Nexus and an LG myTouch Q. Just erases the old one and doesn't install a replacement. Also be careful using the font installer, since it's set to overwrite your three main system fonts by default when you install a font. Also, most boot animation changer programs don't work on Samsung phones.
If you like a boot animation that Rom Toolbox shows you, just let it download. Then copy it from /sdcard/romtoolbox/boot_animations to /data/local and rename it "bootanimation.zip". Should work on next boot. Your original gnex boot animation is also in there, named backup(something).zip. You can also extract /system/media/bootanimation.zip from any zipped gnex rom file and do the same.

Worked perfectly that way! I downloaded it and moved it to /system/media, renamed the default boot to "bootanimation.bak". Fixed permissions and rebooted.
As for fonts, I'm not getting into that. I love having access to three apps in one!

I have tried replacing my bootanimation.zip file with other ones DL'd from the internet with no success. Is there a file size limit?

Have you changed the permissions accordingly? It won't work if the zip doesn't have the right permissions (rw-r-r).

Hello.
It has been mentioned in a number of reviews of the P6 that there is a selection of a large number of themes for the device. Does anyone know where this is and/or how to get these themes?
I rather like the default dark brushed aluminium theme myself, but I wouldn't mind having a look at some of these other themes...
http://zh.ui.vmall.com/theme.php?mod=list&display=1&model=P6&version=EMUI1.5&last_select=model
Here you can download themes. If they are downloaded in .zip format just change the extension to .hwt
Then move this file to HWThemes on your sdcard. The theme should be automatically recognised now.

Need a root explorer+sqlite editor (like SQLite editor)
Go to /data/user/0/com.android.providers.settings/databases/ and execute settings.db , enter systemex and search theme_no_online, change false for true
Now, you can download online themes
but are these themes in english or chinese?
There are in your system language

Enormous thanks for that, I'm downloading a few right now...
Do not text edit the .db file. It caused mine to boot loop.
Luckily deleting the file in recovery mode with adb worked.
Bootloops with non-removable battery is no fun

to do this does my phone need to be rooted or anything?
really not looking to cause problems with the phone. would rather keep one of the default themes than try to get a new one and f*ck up the phone. (i'm not all tech so would have no idea how to fix it)

No, root is not required to do this. Just connect the phone to USB using MTP and transfer the .hwt file to the folder HWThemes.

i downloaded the theme i wanted from that webiste and it was .hwt format
i connected my p6 using mtp opened the folder HWThemes then there are 2 folders .cache and Diytheme
i tried placing the .hwt file outside these 2 subfolders but within the main HWThemes folder
i tried placing it in the Diytheme folder
then there are 3 folders named "audio" "preview" and "wallpaper" in the .cache folder - i put the .hwt theme in the.cache folder but left it outside these subsubfolders. i also tried putting in in the preview folder
anyway the device didnt pick it up on ANY of the occasions (unless i have to reboot? for it to recognise)
(each time i deleted it from the previous folder before placing it in the new one so that the .hwt file was only present once)
also there are 2 files in the main HWThemes folder called "unzippedpackagelist.serv" and "installedwallpaperlist.serv" - idk what there purpose is.

Does this work for B125 international? I found it, but I don't want to risk bricking my phone. :/
