My samsung galaxy s3 only shows me Egde network. I have searched seriously within it for a place to switch from edge to 3g or 4g all to no avail. Pls is there any hidding method to do this?
And again, i tried connecting the phone through usb to my pc to move my backed up apps into it, after installing the drivers my pc couldnt show me the phone.
I just want to know if my phone is faulty and if i should send it back to the dealer because i just purchased it today.
Check to make sure the imei matches the one on the sticker under the battery.

I have faced same problem and I know exact solution. I cannot share here its illegal.. because it involve with NV data
Don't go straight to messing with the NV data though. Many times its not necessary and if it can be fixed without touching the NV Data, it is much, much better to leave it alone.
I've fixed hundreds and hundreds of these issues here, both when it requires writing to the NV Data and when it does not, and many didn't have to touch the NV to begin with, but did anyway and ended up causing even more problems we had to fix. (I've even run into a few where someone did something wrong and permanently screwed up the device!)
All I'm saying is be careful and don't dive into the NV data unless absolutely necessary.

OK, I have been dealing with this since I bought my GSII and cannot find any information about it.
Firstly I want to say that I am completely stock and unrooted.
My phone does not like to keep a stable data connection. About 50% of the time, when I try to do anything that requires a data connection (facebook, browser, gmail, etc.) the 2 arrows under the 2g/3g/4g icon will stick being grey and my phone just sits there "loading". I tried a factory reset, didn't install any apps, and also got a new sim card and the issue remains. It happens everywhere so it is not just a bad network connection.
I decided to post the question here because yesterday I was playing with my brother's GSII, and his did the same thing.. So it made me think that maybe it wasn't just me. Has anyone else experienced this? Or does anyone know what might be the cause?
Edit: I set my phone to use 2g only, and the problem vanished.. So it doesn't like to connect to 3g/4g.

Try going to your mobile network connection settings, choose access point names, hit your menu button and click "restore defaults".. It may fix it, I had data issues and it did the job. Hope it works for you!

Do what the gut above me said. Also call Tmobile and tell them, they will refresh your data connection on their end. That will clear up three problems your having.
But if it's also happening to your brothers phone, it's a network error. Call Tmobile.

I restored the apn settings and had Tmobile refresh my data connection, and it still happens. I noticed today that it's not just data, I'm also unable to call or text when it happens.. Tmobile just said everything tested normal so there is nothing they can do.. And I really don't think it's the phone so I don't want to exchange for a refurbished unless I have to.

Its happened to me before. For about a week, the data connection just dropped. It would come back for a bit and later vanish. I called t-mobile and they guided me through routine steps (i.e. taking the battery out, rebooting, resetting) but nothing seemed to work. They really couldn't figure it out and later told me to replace the SIM. I can't remember if they shipped me one or had to go to the store but either way that relieved the problem. This was on an HTC HD2.
That might not be the case with you though. At one point in time all the phones under my name lost data connectivity just as you explain. This really had no solution but to wait it out.

you mentioned your brother's is doing the same thing, its probably not the phone, but rather the cell tower your connected to is fuggin up. Try going 5 miles from where you currently are and see if its still happening.
Network error
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
Just in case it's not a cell tower or network problem . . . My SGS2, purchased in October, had the same symptoms as the OP. After trying everything the OP did, and more, I came to the conclusion that the firmware on the phone was corrupt. I used Odin to flash the factory stock ROM & Kernel images (2.3.5 at the time). There was a definite improvement in the faltering/hesitant/fail connectivity problem at that point, but it was still very subpar. So I then also flashed, again using Odin, the baseband ("modem") image - I did it twice for good measure. The problem was finally immediately solved at that point and I had very prompt loading of webpages, etc. Still working fine months later (and even better with a custom ROM). See the thread entitled "[Q]Is there a "true" factory restore for T-Mobile Galaxy S II?" for help about the seemingly same symptoms/problem you (and your brother) are experiencing. If your underlying problem is in fact the same as mine (and the poster of the thread I cited) then it's apparently either a bad factory flash or a post-factory corruption occurrence that is causing your problem . . . the coincidence of your brother also having the same problem aside. Good luck!

Hi,
I just put my dads phone line on an EVO 4G that wasn't being used, and was rooted. First I had problems activating it with Sprint because I couldn't access the programming menu with the ##msl# as well as ##3283#. I had the Sprint chat guy on hold as I was searching the internet as to why this menu wouldn't pop up because i couldn't tell him that it was rooted. I then found out that perhaps the EPST menu/settings could have been wiped off the phone. After trying everything, the last thing that i found was to install the newest radio/pri/Wimax/ zip file.
To my surprise, this worked and I thanked him for his time now that the phone was activated. A couple hours later the data connection stopped working. Again perplexed I searched for an answer. I went thru everything until I found someone say to update the profile while connected to wifi... This fixed that.
Now, in trying to fix the data connection I flashed a stock ROM while still keeping my root. So data connection was now enabled... Only this time the phone had reverted to its previous owners phone number that i was able to find in the programming menu. So the MDN and the MEIN(?, its the other number u change when activating) had both changed. With this done, the voice had been disabled and when calling out I had gotten the message that the phone has not been validated. Remembering how I activated it earlier with the Sprint reps help, I typed in ##(msl#)#, and typed in the right numbers so that it'd be activated.
My question is if this has happened to anyone else and if there was any fix or further complications that anyone had. This is the first time I have had this problem and I've had an EVO since the start, well now a EVO 3D
Thanks.

Did you fully wipe everything before flashing the rom?
Sounds like the phone may have been flashed with qpst or cdma ws since the meid reverted itself

@sitlet
Yes, everything wiped triple wiped I'm sure.
@Evil-koncepts
Qpst and cdma ws are new to me. What would be the best bet to have this problem from repeating? I flashed that new radio and it seemed to stick. Thinking the problem would only arise again after a flash. But I'm not sure. What do u suggest?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
Ive never flashed a phone myself but if you look for some of the tutorials floating around you should be able to find out how they work i would suggest getting one running the scanning the meid/esn and see if they are all matching or if there is one out of place, if any dont match up with the sticker then you will probably need to zero them out and write the correct one in their place and that should fix the issue if thats what it happens to be, the reverting meid just sounds to me like they were re written to get onto boost, meteopcs or one of the other carriers and then possibly repaired back to stock but maybe not all of them were so the modified one keeps re writing itself when the phone is cleared
Edit: by flashed i mean to another carrier as i have flashed probably thousands of zips

Hi everyone I have a flashed samsung galaxy S3 (Sprint Bad ESN) on Page plus.... everything works,, talk, text, 3G data, however my problem is whenever I put the phone in the charger... the phone network signal stops working (I cant get any calls or texts), and it goes back to normal after I unplug it from the charger... does anyone know why this happens..? I heard it may be some kind of bug where when Samsung S3 is connected to old verizon towers it does that.. does anyone know a fix to this? it seems to be similar to this issue http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/104803 Also , the phone is rooted... running 4.1.1 ( I had to downgrade in order to get my MSL)..

Dang. Try turning off the connection optimizer or remove it altogether
I've seen this exact issue before...not trying to slam you, but search and you'll most likely find the thread i saw a while back where the OP was eventually able to fix it. I think it was the connection optimizer though.
EDIT: Search on XDA only

Ahhh it was a while ago...I'll try searching i suggest you do too, try something like "network off when charging" or "charging phone disconnects network
And you can remove it altogether by deleting the ConnectionOptimizer.apk from /system/app, then reboot and wipe dalvik cache

Some users have reported that removing it has caused issues, just freeze it with TB or Rom toolbox

If you remove it completely the mobile networks menu will FC, so you'll be stuck on whatever network mode you were on when it was deleted
I like to break stuff!
I had a friend try the deletion and wiping method.. he said it made it a little better, but it didnt solve the problem. Therefore, im thinking the issue is connected with the optomizer.. does anyone know of any other methods to try? thnak u
I have the exact same issue where my cell reception is SEVERELY limited when plugged into the charge. It fluctuates from No-network to 0-bars. When it shows 0-bars sometimes it lets me make calls or send texts, but calls will drop quickly and texts will sometimes fail. But as soon as I remove from charger, it goes back to 3-bars in my house, and works just fine.
I have even tried using usb cables with ferrite cores on both ends thinking it may have been an interference issue, but that didn't do a thing.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Sprint Galaxy S3 on flashed to PagePlus
First of all this is my first time posting here on xda but have read a lot of things on this website, and i apologize if i have placed this in the wrong area.
I have seen other threads about this issue but none seem to be quite like mine.
So i had cyanogenmod on my galaxy s 3 att/rogers, I had it on my phone for a long time pretty much the entire year i have had the phone, when randomly last night my service just stopped. I cant make phone calls, text, or use data. But my wifi still works. so basically my phone turned into a tablet.
Things I have tried to fix this:
1: restored using nanndroid backup (no effect)
2: flash a different rom "PAC Rom" with its kernel (no effect)
3: Restored phone to complete factory defaults using odin (no effect)
4: Tried different SIM card in my phone to see if it would work (no effect)
5: Tried my SIM in different phones (worked)
6: Restored phone to factory default using samsung kies (no effect)
So can you see my delema? No matter what i try the service just will not activate and only says "rogers emergency calls only". this phone is only around a year old.. This isn't a common thing to happen is it?
Anyways I would be very, very happy if anyone could help me fix this problem. I apologize if i get back to you slow as i have to go to work in a couple minutes, my boss is probably going to be pissed I have no phone. :crying:
Nothing? Nothing at all?
I had similar issue I just solved. I had only lost data however. I would suggest maybe checking your apn settings. It maybe flash a modem. I was able to make calls/texts no problem but no data at all. I Google the apn settings and now everything works great

Apn settings were all right. Not sure what has happened.. rogers told me the phone was toast but I have a hard time beleiving that from someone who looks at my phone for 30 seconds and says that. Either way I'm picking my note 3 up friday. Not through rogers, since they were a royal pain in my wallet. Bell ftw
Not really sure if I should mark this as solved due to the fact its not?
Howdy folks, I think I'm in an odd situation here...
I have a Note 2 from Videotron that's been unlocked (they won't warranty it, Samsung's given me the run around), but seems to have developed an odd issue... Basically, I'm running stock firmware, but have been rooted. However, my phone gave up the ghost the other night and I figured just flashing the stock Odin image (from Tesh) would just resolve it.
Well, it got my phone back up and running... sorta. I can't seem to access the inernal storage (which isn't a big deal as I have 32gb micro SD card), and somehow my IMEI number shows up as 'null'
I did some digging around and I found out about the nv_data.bin (and related files), so I decided to dive into the EFS folder and lo and behold... those files seem to be missing. Wifi and bluetooth check out as functional.
I've tried some of the tricks to rebuild it, reflashed the stock image, modem, csc. and no dice.
I've seen talk of being able to hex edit the files from another device to get it up and running, which I don't mind doing. I've been flashing ROMs for a few years now and this is the first time I've encountered this. Also, I'm an IT tech by trade, so command lines fon't scare me.
However, this is stumping me and I really don't want a $730 mini tablet... or if you folks know of a service that rectify the issue for me, I'd appreciate any info. Though, I'd prefer to DIY myself before sending it out to a shop.
Have you tried the solution mentioned here ?

That would probably solve my issue other than the fact that the one tool I need (here) keeps 403ing.
If someone sent me that tool... I might be able to fix my IMEI issue and be done with it. Otherwise... I'm contemplating of getting a crackberry Z10 and be done with android...
