Hello together,
I'm searching for the "egg-laying wool-milk-sow" (translated direct from German means "all singing and dancing") GPS BT receiver for my MDA VarioII. It should have the following features:
minimum SiRF-III Chipset
TMC receiver included
long battery durability
Static navigation possible
BT connection
"Navigon" compatible
I want to use it both for traffic navigation and by foot.
Has anyone a good hint?
Has anyone experience with the "GNS 5843"
Greetings Pudl
Mate i use the Holux GPSlim 236. Sirf iii, static nav option, good battery life and its good value. I use it with Tomtom and oziexplorer. Paired with a JASJAM its a great setup.
Scott
Holux GPSlim 240
The two Holux receiver sound very good, but the both don't have a TCM receiver. Do you know and BT GPS receiver with TCM?
Greetings Pudl
Ive got a HOLOX BT-321.....worth a look?
What's TCM
Sorry, I ment TMC. This means "traffic message channel". Over this channel you can receive the latest traffic news in europe. So you can see the actual traffic on the streets where you want to drive.
see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_Message_Channel

And me... my first so called BT GPS device was a pile of crap... but since getting the Holox last year I've been a happy chap sat naving everywhere
Well recommended! look on ebay for one
You should look at http://www.pocketgpsworld.com it has all sorts of reviews and GPS forums
I use the Nokia LD-3W which is also available in the T-Mobile shop. I just bought from eBay for half the price.
Apart from TMC it has all the features. And considering the quality of traffic messages in Germany I don't miss the TMC. It works perfectly with MN6, VisualGPSce, GPSTuner and so forth. And it has a removable battery - a fact worth considering...

I have a BTGPS74R (aka Holox BT-321). It uses up to 32 satellites and works well with TomTom 6 on my XDA II. The only annoying aspect is that I have to use the MS BT stack with my Blue Ant BT earpiece and the Broadcom BT stack with TomTom.
One day I might be able to use both simultaneously ... if someone is already doing this, I'd love to know how.
Enjoy!
The best low-cost receiver we've tested lately is the new little Qstarz S1000 datalogger / Bluetooth GPS..
See:
http://store.pressdigital.com.au/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=qstarz+gps
Really nice low power 32 channel chipset with an integrated logger .. plus some nice Google Earth utilities to plot the datalogger data..
Cheers

I have used the GNS 5843 and it is very good ,especially for tmc . I used it in combination with Navigon on my trinity P3600. By the way I get more Tmc reports on P3600/ Gns 5843 than on my Navigon Ts7000!!! ........It is even better than my built in Volkswagen Navi!!!
On foot I use my P3600 without Gns 5843 as I do not need the Tmc.

I have the Holux GPSlim 240 and it worked great with my Wizard. It is incredibly small - the size of a Bic lighter roughly.
Hello
What do you want to do with the GPS receiver. Do need it for car navigation for cycle or for walking.
I have an I-Blue 747 and I use is for car and walking navigation and I am very happy with it.
When you understand German you should look to the forum from http://forum.pocketnavigation.de/index.php
There you find a lot of discussions about GPS receiver.
Greetings Pudl
I use a Navicore's Personal 2007 GPS - it is a rebadged version of Holux 240 mentioned above and half the price of the Holux version
i use a Holux M1000B
super sensitive
extremely accurate
Basically my brother got himself a Nokia N85 the other day and i was having a play around with it and found a really awesome little program that comes with the phone. It gives you the option to transmit all of you music through a FM signal. I was wondering if there is an app to do this with my X1 or could one be made?
Thanks
No FM-transmitter in X1 so... no.
x1 got a fm receiver not a fm transmitter
or transceiver as it would be called if it both send and receive
but you can use fm transmitters with 3.5mm jack of cause it's more troublesome
That clears that up. Thanks.
you would find this on many new walkman phones and some satnavs like my tomtom 930t

Anyone tried to connect via bluetooth v4.0 to any accessory?
I am trying to connect to a Polar H7 Bluetooth Low Power Heart Rate Monitor with a Samsung S3 with no luck.
Just curious if with a Note II it works?
Thanks
No problems here. But my accessories have been audio. You should check with the cuff vendors to see which profiles/services it needs. If they're pretty standard and in the gn2 stack, they may be able to guide you more.
-----
I would love to help you, but help yourself first: ask a better question
http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
But your accessories are also Bluetooth V4.0 Low Energy?
Not necessarily. I use headphones and car stereos.
Each bluetooth version has a specific set of services it adds on from the prior version. When a product uses bluetooth it may choose to use all or only some of the services. What you want to find out is what services your monitor uses. For instance, it may not need A2DP, which are audio services, or HSP handsets.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_profile
That link happens to mention low energy requirements.
Once you know the profiles it uses, you can check what the gn2 supports.
I don't know enough about your monitor to be able to help you more. I would suspect the manufacturer of your monitor could help more.
I don't know where you live, but you could try taking it in to the store and attempt to connect it. Ask the salesperson for help.
http://m.samsung.com/uk/consumer/mobile-devices/galaxy-note/galaxy-note/GT-N7100RWDBTU
That does show it supports LE, which I assume is low energy.

Bit late answer but..
The HR7 is a BLE device and the Note II is a BLE capable device.
However since Google failed to put a proper Bluetooth stack for BLE in it it won't work.
There are some apps in the market that use some kind of samsung library to show that you can actually see the device .
But these work very spotty, i know since i have both the hr7 and the noteii.
And although i can get it to appear in connections dialog windows i have only been able to use it once.
Search the forums for SGIII and BLE you'll find more info.
The bluetooth stack problem is there. Google has not kept the same stack for all versions and also incomplete. AFAIK I think they have changed to broadcom BT stack for 4.1/4.2 and its still incomplete. So maybe at a later version compatibility with all devices will be there.
as of now you could pair unpair a few times. Maybe that might work.
Yes, as far as I know there is not yet any firmware version with a workable ble stack. Keep waiting... meanwhile my Polar H7 heart rate band may become obsolete with the waiting shame on samsung.
connected all my bt devices without any problem..check the settings of ur bt device..
I can also connected all my bt devices without any problem, except those that are Bluetooth version 4.0... like my Polar H7 chest band.

I have this problem too. I didn't realise I would even need to look into if it would be compatible. I thought the whole point of Bluetooth was it was standard!
So, is this something we can expect to work in the future, or should I just send it back to Amazon?
Can anyone recommend a Heart Rate monitor that will work?

I couldn't get the Polar H7 Smart heart rate monitor working on the Note 2 with any of the sports apps in the Play Store. Bluetooth low energy (also called Smart) does not appear to be supported on the Note 2. I've decided to order the Zephyr HxM and will be giving that a try on Saturday as an alternative approach. It uses standard Bluetooth and should work. I'm keeping the Polar H7 hoping that later in the year when Android 5 is released we will get working Bluetooth Low Energy (Smart) support. The Samsung site is very misleading and states Bluetooth 4.0 LE support as a feature on the phone. It does not work. There is an app in the Play Store called Smart Scanner that can use the HW in the Note 2 to see the Polar H7 ... it just can not do anything more with it. So the HW is functional; it just lacks Android OS support.
If anyone figures out how to get BLE (ie. Bluetooth Low Energy or Smart) devices working on the Note 2, please post your solution.

Nice summary! :good:
I came to the same conclusion!
Thanks ... I should have also mentioned that when the Samsung Galaxy S 4 was recently announced it seemed to have support for some sports / health apps and gadgets. I was wondering if they were Bluetooth 4.0 LE based. If so, that would lead me to believe that Samsung must have a working Bluetooth 4.0 LE (Smart) patch for the version of Android the phone is going to launch with ... this might mean that there may be some hope for a fix for the Note 2. I'm just speculating here ... but, hoping that Samsung will fix this problem.
Hey guys,
a friend of mine is looking for a new notebook, but very happy with his (old) Nexus 7. I thought that it might be enough if he buys a bluetooth keyboard + mouse and Chromecast. Would this work to get a Full, on the TV Screen, desktop replacement? Or would it be smarter to get a new nexus 7 and use the MHL support to connect it with some screen + connect mouse and keyboard (via usb/bluetooth).
Anyways, is this even possible to connect a screen, a mouse and a keyboard at the same time on the new nexus/old nexus.
Cheers.

I believe chromcast works on wifi.
but Bluetooth will pair with only one device at a time. Keyboard or Mouse. Not both!
can use a wired keyboard with a bluetooth mouse though!

Bit if I use a wired keyboard and a bluetooth mouse I cant use the MHL for the screen support (nexus 2013 case) cause the slot is in use, or are there any adapters who support this?
*edit*
I did a little research on "just one bluetooth device"....and its wrong. Lots of sources say that they can connect 2 bluetooth devices. Can anybody confirm this?

I am sure it can be done. However, you can also buy bluetooth keyboard with mouse pad in built that will serve dual purpose. I have a logitech keyboard with built in mouse pad, and it works.
If you use bluetooth keyboard and mouse with chromecast or miracast technologies, you will see a lag between when you perform an action and when it gets displayed on the screen. I guess the wireless display technologies have this limitation.
You can't use MHL with new Nexus 7 2013. the technology is not supported.
What you need is a Slimport adapter to connect the new Nexus 7 2013 to the TV. I have used my bluetooth keyboard with built in mouse pad while my device was connected to Slimport. It works. My bluetooth keyboard was lagging, but i guess that's a known bluetooth issue with the new nexus 7s.
Don't buy MHL for the new Nexus 7 devices. It wont work.
Hope this helps.

Thank you mate, this sounds promising. You said the keyboard kinda laggs. Is it anyoing, or can you live with that problem?
The Slimport thingy wont work with the old nexus 7, right?
Is there a possibility to connect Slimport AND keyboard/mouse (wired) to the device?

I primarily use the mouse so I didn't do a full regression with the keyboard. But i remember it was lagging substantially which was a bummer for me. I saw the bluetooth issue being discussed here somewhere. I will try to find that thread and see there was a fix.

Not that I know of. The slimport connects directly to the N7. The only port you have available after that is for charging, that too within the slimport adapter itself. I am not aware of a slimport and keyboard/mouse wired to the device.

Hi,
I'm a newbie on xda forum and i got some questions before i decided to buy new nexus 7. I got no experiences with Android 4.0 and above versions, so i need a few informations about nexus and android. I already read a few things on multiple forums, including xda. Similar as OP, i would like to replace my laptop with nexus 7.
1. I read nexus 7 owners had problems with USB OTG and there is some application needed for this thing to work. I also read there is the difference between rooted and unrooted tablet. What do i get with rooted tablet? Some guys on local forum told me i will loose warranty if i root tablet. Is this true?
2. Again about OTG, is it possible to download torrents (especially big files over 10 GB, like HD movies) directly on USB or even on external HDD?
3. I read nexus supports MHL, but i have to buy Slimport adapter and not MHL adapter to have a picture on monitor or TV. Is this true? Is it possible to have TV, keyboard and mouse (and maybe even USB) connected at same time? If yes, what would i need? USB hub or anything like that?
Can anybody help me with my questions please?
Cheers
I busted out an old wireless mouse (USB dongle) and a bluetooth keyboard to see how well this would work, and it's surprisingly good. I've got a USB hub plugged in which recognizes flashdrives with StickMount. The only issue is that you won't be able to use the SlimPort and a flash drive/USB mouse at the same time.

root: Some of the more sophisticated apps you may want to use need root. I dont think you lose warenty since you can completely restore your tablet to factory settings if needed. But I am not sure about this. I just can say that the process of rooting is NO problem at all.
MHL: Some guy in THIS thread said that MHL is not supported. And he also said that with a slimport adapter you can use any screen as Nexus screen. Same for the keyboard question, I asked basically the same thing, just read the thread.
You can download torrents. Just make sure to get the 32GB version if you want to dowload big files. And you can also mount external usb devices like HDD. But again, if your MicroUSB (where to put the charger) is occupied by slimport adapter to get a picture on the screen, you wont be able to mount any other sub thing as far as explained in THIS thread.
