Long time lurker, first second time posting.
New to ROMs but learnt a lot in the last few weeks.
Tried several ROMs and now wanting to settle with Vanir 2.9.
Flashed it and followed instructions but the wifi isn't working (not turning on).
I first flashed the recommended LX kernel from 3andala's direct link then tried the Optkernel before installing the latest ROM with no luck. I did notice that when the ROM was installing it seems to "install boot.img", something I hadn't noticed before with other ROMs.Is it overwriting the previously flashed boot.img (from LX and Opt??)
Should I be opening the zip and replacing the boot.img with another one (Opt or LX)?
I would have loved to ask in the specific thread but as a noob, forum rules state I cannot ask in the DEV thread until I have 10 posts. I a, allergic to spamming otherwise....
TIA for any help.
I have same problem but its not a kernel problem. Vanir 082814 is last with wifi working. All newer versions have problem to start wifi on my xperia arc s.

Thanks.
You may be right. I've tried several kernels without success.
I'll probably have to find another ROM to use for the time being. The Vanir ROM is very smooth though. Transitions effortlessly.
BTW, the 082814 ROM, is it ok? Anything wrong with it? Any improvements in the more recent ROMs over it?
Thanks.
082814 is ok and it is smooth. Newer versions are even faster. I'll wait for new version with wifi fixed
thanks.
Update
All sorted now. WiFi working perfectly.

I might be wrong but this is what i think
The 1st link you posted is managed by the CM developers, the second link is Tripndroid who based his/her/their rom on the base of the CM developers rom. Basically adding and removing tweaks that this person/team likes and dislikes
If your considering rooting and installing a custom rom. I can recommend the 1st link been using their roms for more than a month now and it's very good rom. If there is anything about sense that you like and will miss try the Sense roms. (Viper and ARHD) are the two major ones that i looked into, before settling on CM10.

The second one is Tripndroid, and he adds his own tweaks as far as i know. however i havent used his ROM yet to know for sure.

Hi there, I am running the ROM from the first post and it's brilliant. I have tried the second one and found it had quite a few bugs and was not nearly as finished as the first ROM. I am busy downloading alpha 5 now to try and am sure it will be just as great as the rest of his updates have been.
Thought I would give my info based on user experience of both ROMs. Also depends on what you looking for; quick ROM or fancy looking, awesome features or a stripped out version.
Well thanks guys, i think i'll go for the TeamNDVRu when i receive my phone, but still waiting september to see if it's worth it or not.
And what about the known issues ?
- Occasional soft-reboots with GPS On + Facebook ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=2184 )
- WiFi direct doesnt work
- MHL output is rotated incorrectly to portrait in horizontal mode (but workaround added since alpha 8 for hw decoded videos/youtube. Use bsplayer from playstore, almost all videos play with it in correct rotation in hwoverlay)
- No FM radio app in ROM. But Spirit FM works from market (it's commercial!)
- USB storage copies slower than normal
- Some paid apps loses settings/acconts due to this android jellybean problem: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=34880 Solution is to backup with Titanium Backup and restore to internal memory, not to sd

Some of them will only occur if you have special need for something. (e.g. wifi direct)
Some of them don't occur for everyone. (facebook+gps reboot)
None of them are really a huge concern if you are willing to try jelly bean. And for most of them there is a workaround, fix given in the text you quoted. I have a jelly bean rom installed and I have to say that I don't really feel any negative impact by those known bugs/issues. But do note, that most of these ROMs are not as stable as the 4.0.4 ROMs like ViperX.
I have been using tbaldens ROM and it has been quite good. The ones by trip I have found to be a bit unstable.

Hello Everybody,
especially kernel developpers! Please try to have a look at the issue, in my opinion is a kernel repack issue, googled it to death without a solution! Slowly everybody is moving on to new HBOOTs and the 4.2 project is still far from stable.

Trip's ROM and his kernel combined have working GPS. As far as I know, not much kernel devs can do without the source.
I know that, I am using SlimBean, love the rom, but the thread support is a bit...let's say, slow (rather non existent). I looked for smth like a stable release, I saw that they have anounced that this is the final version of 4.1 and they start working on 4.2. No busgs in the rom. Of course, in no changelog or issue list the nonfunctional GPS issue is not mentioned. I am still convinced that there is a way to do it! I'll keep roaming the forum!
It is likely to be sorted when jb kernel sources are released.
And don't ask when, nobody knows.

Of course I don't ask when, I never ask when, but does at least anyone know what the issue is?

Probably kernel incompatibility with newer hboots.
Apparently there is micro kernel responsible for the GPS and the repack for the new boots is not done right.
No one any idea?
Answer:
"People started to get confusing when newer hboot versions stopped working with custom ROMs: The reason for this is that people used an ancient init binary that crashed with newer hboot releases."

I too suffered loss of GPS after updating to 1.31
I have tried a number of NON sense roms, but Ice Cold Jelly running Android 4.2.1 is good. Working GPS again - phew!

Hi guys, I'm new on this board and I just wanted a ask a few question about this rom. Currently I'm using the Xylon 2.3.3 and I'm loving it so far, running beautifully smooth. I just got a question about the gapps, I've installed the 2013-2-15 gapps with all the photosphere stuff, however there is a newer version gapp which is 20130301, should I update to that?
Also is the kernel that it came with any good? or should I change it to AK purity like a lot of user have said to make it run a lot better.
It's safe to update, just flash over the current gapps.
As far as the kernel goes, most users report great things from the AK kernel so it's worth a shot.
For future reference, please use the corresponding Pre-existing ROM thread to ask such questions. There is no need to initialize a completely new thread.

thanks I will in the future. btw I was just checking the kernel version. It seems like the rom has already built in with the ak kernel purity.030. Correct me if I'm wrong.
If that's what your about tab says then yeah.
I've been using CM 10 and 10.1 nightly builds on my Verizon GNex for quite some time without issue. Yesterday I decided to try the Carbon Rom(4/22 nightly, 4/23 nightly and 1.6 Stable) and had the same issue on all.
I get no WiFi, or 3G/4G signal. If I try to launch the browser it flashes on the screen for a second and then disappears. It's basically unusable for me. I did a clean flash to make sure nothing from the CM 10.1 Rom would cause any issues but still have the same problems.
I really wanted to check out that Rom because it looks pretty nice and is supposed to be really fast.
Does anyone have any ideas of what I can try? The Rom itself installs fine, but once it's installed I have those issues.
I looked through a bunch of the forum pages for the actual Rom itself on here and didn't notice anyone else reporting these issues so I'm not sure why I'm seeing this. I've installed other Roms other than CM without issues.
Thanks,
Ben
what kernel are you using mate ? did u full wipe.?
i am not having any issues with it.. using the kernel that comes with it

1 question, did you flash gapps package? Because I had that problem when I just flashed Carbon ROM ... Wanted to check out if there's a file explorer in the ROM itself ...

Right now I'm trying the kernel that comes with Carbon. I did do a full wipe prior to installing the Rom.
I downloaded the Xylon Rom yesterday and that installed with no problems at all. So not sure why Carbon is having these issues on my phone.
i am using ak kernel 207
i used the kernel with the rom and had no issues with it also..but ak kernel + carbon = best battery
and the pa setting added now is a icing on the cake,i dont need anything else
WiFi is not working at all, I used TWRP, wipe and advanced wipe, but still can not succeeded.
Well, I am using the latest Carbon Nightly with SmittyV Kernel (also the latest one) and it's working pretty well
Not perfect because my phone sometimes shuts down randomly and it still has some issues like when using the Carbon Active Display with the default messaging app (the "unread message" notification doesn't go away even after I reply to the message and close the app with the back button) and it sometimes freezes the phone (making me have to remove the battery to turn it off and then reboot).
Other than that I'm not having any problems with Wi-Fi. Try to install another rom then install again the carbon rom wiping everything in both flashes
I've been trying to use the newer Android roms, but there isn't enough ram on any of these for me to do the things I need to do. So I was looking on Thepooch's Kindle Fire Development index and I noticed the four CM7 roms there. Now out of those four (since they are the most recently updated), which one would you recommend?

Yeah I've decided to take the testing into my own hands. So far I've tested Sblood's CM7 Source and Hellfire. Hellfire is admittedly less stable and I can't delete any of the gapps (Hangouts, Google Search, etc.) without the Google Services Framework constantly force closing. But I am able to OC to 1200 and the CM7 Source only lets you OC to 1008. I'm testing Barebones by the end of the week.
Edit: I found two more roms by smirkis:
CM7 Kang

MIUI w/ Kernel

I could use some help with testing if anyone (or you) are interested

I don't know. I use COTR and I haven't touched TWRP for over a year. I don't see why it wouldn't though since it's a recovery. I tested all of the first four and so far I like Hellfire the best. I'll test the other two by the end of the week if there hasn't been a fix for CM11.

I decided I won't try the two by smirkis because you cannot dual boot them. I'm running Kitkang with Barebones as my alt. boot now and I'm quite happy with it
Use COTR instead of TWRP.
