Carbon ROM issues - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I've been using CM 10 and 10.1 nightly builds on my Verizon GNex for quite some time without issue. Yesterday I decided to try the Carbon Rom(4/22 nightly, 4/23 nightly and 1.6 Stable) and had the same issue on all.
I get no WiFi, or 3G/4G signal. If I try to launch the browser it flashes on the screen for a second and then disappears. It's basically unusable for me. I did a clean flash to make sure nothing from the CM 10.1 Rom would cause any issues but still have the same problems.
I really wanted to check out that Rom because it looks pretty nice and is supposed to be really fast.
Does anyone have any ideas of what I can try? The Rom itself installs fine, but once it's installed I have those issues.
I looked through a bunch of the forum pages for the actual Rom itself on here and didn't notice anyone else reporting these issues so I'm not sure why I'm seeing this. I've installed other Roms other than CM without issues.
Thanks,
Ben

what kernel are you using mate ? did u full wipe.?
i am not having any issues with it.. using the kernel that comes with it

1 question, did you flash gapps package? Because I had that problem when I just flashed Carbon ROM ... Wanted to check out if there's a file explorer in the ROM itself ...

Right now I'm trying the kernel that comes with Carbon. I did do a full wipe prior to installing the Rom.
I downloaded the Xylon Rom yesterday and that installed with no problems at all. So not sure why Carbon is having these issues on my phone.

i am using ak kernel 207
i used the kernel with the rom and had no issues with it also..but ak kernel + carbon = best battery
and the pa setting added now is a icing on the cake,i dont need anything else

WiFi is not working at all, I used TWRP, wipe and advanced wipe, but still can not succeeded.

Well, I am using the latest Carbon Nightly with SmittyV Kernel (also the latest one) and it's working pretty well
Not perfect because my phone sometimes shuts down randomly and it still has some issues like when using the Carbon Active Display with the default messaging app (the "unread message" notification doesn't go away even after I reply to the message and close the app with the back button) and it sometimes freezes the phone (making me have to remove the battery to turn it off and then reboot).
Other than that I'm not having any problems with Wi-Fi. Try to install another rom then install again the carbon rom wiping everything in both flashes

ICS on telus sgh-t959d

If you are looking for a rom/kernel for the Telus SGH-t959d try cyanogen 9 build 16 and semaphore kernel(0.9.1)-working 99.5%!!! The only thing that is not 100% is the battery drain-I only get about 1 1/2 days max-with darkys rom I got 2 days plus no problem.
No home or back button issues, all apps restored with Titanium without issues....
Have Fun!

updated to build 17 without semaphore kernel-battery so far seems longer, but I did have 1 random reboot though.

Now have drZMIUI ICS with semaphore 090 kernel-updated to 095b- working pretty good at this time-couple of force closes nothing major, only thing that seems to keep re-occurring is the settings/superuser permissions sometimes get reset.+Don't use deep idle-keeps locking up phone.
Gonna keep trying this one and CM9 for next couple of months to see what is the best

Hi, can I have a kind of status of your usage?
IS the CM rom better than the MIUI one?
I'm currently using glitch kernel with miui 2.3rom and I have a huge problem of signals.
I would really like to upgrade my phone with another kernel and rom, but I want to be sure that it work before.
Thanks for your answer.

Work fine for now... will give an update status soon.

[Q] Slow Read/Write & Lags on CM10 Based Roms (but not on AOSP based roms)

Hi,
I've only got my Galaxy Nexus earlier this week. I tried out the stock rom for a day, then decided to switch to CM10.
It looks like whenever I flash CM10 based Roms, I experience lags when opening applications, reading/writing files to the system, however I am not experiencing these issues in any AOSP based roms.
For example, when I restore SMS by an app called SMS Backup & Restore, on AOSP based roms, the restore happens A LOT quicker than CM10 based roms.
I've tried CM10 nightly from 10/10 as well as JellyBro. I've done complete wipe (format /system /data /cache, clear dalvik, delete Android folder from internal SD). I've also tried different kernels (Franco and Trinity seemed to be populat in the forum) but didn't make any differences. I am still getting the annoying lags in CM10 based roms.
Is this normal for CM10 based roms? or is there anything I can do to fix the issue?

FYI, CM10 is an AOSP based ROM.
I've experienced nothing but smoothness from CM10. Have you been checking the MD5 sum? Could be a bad download, I've actually had to download a ROM more than once from the CM servers because the sums didn't match up.
I'm on latest paranoid droid 2.21 with trinity kernel alpha 67. oc to 1.3ghz/384gpu interactive. I've had paranoid droid since 1.6 and i've been experiencing similar lag OP described. Mainly opening google now, camera app, settings. Have not tried stock 4.1.2 rom yet... although I'm really tempted to flash back to stock since it seems to solve the lag problem for some people. I've played with all the settings but to no avail. It's frustrating seeing how people are saying their jellybean galaxy nexus is so smooth and flies while mine stutters intermittently all the time
Here's a quick video i made demonstrating some of the lag
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tq7mhqmKZtA
would like to know if others have a similar experience as me. Whether this is normal behavior or is there something I need to change/tweak?

Thanks. I have checked all the MD5 sums - they all match up. I've tried a lot of roms based on CM10 - CM10 nightlies, JellyBro, Paranoid and Paranoid dark, but still the same issue.
I should have clarified what I meant by AOSP based rom. I meant any roms that doesn't have too much changes from pure AOSP (Eg. stock rom, Android Revolution and the roms by Team EOS)
When I flash CM10 based roms, even the initial setup seems to be lagging (I've been doing clean installations - format cache/system/data, clear dalvik). For example, on the initial setup screen, upon selecting the language and hit next, it takes a lot longer (probably around 10 seconds or so) to progress to the next step whereas anything based on stock takes me to the next screen within a second.
I'm not too sure if my perception of lag is different from others. I've actually come from using Galaxy S2 (I've decided to try GN after accidently dropping my S2 in the washing machine). I've never had this sorts of lags on any of the CM10 based roms on S2.
It looks like some of these lags go away if I disable fsync in the kernels, but not all the lags

Yeh, i'm having similar lags on my phone on any CM10 based roms (including Paranoid). One thing that sort of helped me was disabling fsync (on Franco's kernel). Or try flashing the stock rom and see if it gets better. At least stock rom seems to be very smooth in my case.

Yeah, I'm basically having the same problem. When I went back to stock, it seemed to be a lot faster. Granted, I did reinstall all my apps at that point. When I get a minute, I'll probably reinstall cyanogenmod 10 to see if it is still slow or not with a fresh install.

I can attest to having annoying lag in CM10 based roms such as ParanoidAndroid. It's always smooth in the beginning but as I install more apps, it just slows down considerably.
I just wiped my entire phone last night and started over running Rasbean Jelly 10.16 Build(AOSP Based) with Trinity A67 1344/307 and it's as smooth as it can get. I have about 130 apps installed and it's still fast as ****. Google now/ google search takes about 1 sec. to start versus it can take up to 5-6 seconds before on CM based roms. All apps are responsive and starts super fast.
Don't know why this occurs but it seems that some galaxy nexus' like ours just dont like the CM10 Builds..
So if anyone is having lag problems, I'd recommend the rasbean jelly + trinity combo before looking for a new phone..
Do you guys see "lags" on stock rom? Yes? Then return the device.

Hi Folks
On my device the lag is connected to how full the file system is.
If I copy lot of music on the phone then it becomes laggy
If I delete it, it is still laggy.
To recover its full smmothness I have to do a full wipe and then restore the FW.
Did anyone find the same problem?
thnx

This can be fixed with fstrim. Here is a cwm zip that runs fstrim as a script upon each boot and places a fstrim.log file in /data/local to verify it worked. It trims /system, /data and /cache.

Edit:
*Important* There are some emmc cards that have a so called "brick bug". Use this app to check and use the fstrim at your own risk.

[Q] CM10.1/Carbon/AOKP Recent Nightlies Causing Reboots

Hello! I've searched quite a bit but have been unable to find anything to address the frustration I'm having. Recently I have been having an issue where my phone will restart itself at random intervals. The best way to recreate the issue is to use a streaming media app like Spotify/YouTube/Google Play Music/etc but it does happen at other times as well. This will occur on all ROMs I've tried including AOKP, CM10.1, Carbon, etc.
I believe I have narrowed the issue down to the 3.4 kernel as all the ROMs I've flashed in recent weeks have been using 3.4. If I use an older ROM (such as the stable release of CM10 with the 3.0 kernel) I do not have the issue.
It gets even stranger...I have found that LeanKernel is the only 3.4 kernel to work and has been stable for about 3 days on my device. So apparently I am stuck with reflashing LeanKernel after each ROM update if I want to run the latest and greatest.
My question is two-fold....
Is this a known issue for the AT&T GS3?
Any suggestions to fix this problem?
For the record, I have reverted to the stock, unrooted ROM and do not have the issues there.
Thanks in advance for any guidance!
Issues and bugs with 3.4 kernels are known. This is not specific to you.
I am running tasks 4/23 with the packaged kernel. No issues. Full wipe is key

T989 Menu Buttons not disabled in call

I searched up and down for this, but for some reason when ever I use many of the roms here my menu buttons are still active when I am in call causing me to push the search button and cause google voice search to pop up. This happens way to often.
It doesnt happen when I use the CM Windows based installer to install the rom, but the battery and performance on that is not too great.
Rushing's Roms dont seem to have this but I dont really like touchwiz, and when I try any roms with the uber kernel they all have this bug and I tried to search in those threads for this but the search engine could not find anything.
I think its UBER kernel related, but also the CM Rom with Diablo kernel does the same thing, and I looked up and down in trickster mod control for button behavior but I just cant find it.
Anyone could point me in the right direction at least?
oh come on, anyone?

Its not that I dont want to use UBER or any other Kernel, if its something that IS as a result of the Kernel and everything else is works well I can deal.
but maybe its an issue thats been fixed and I cant seem to locate the thread because I maybe simply do not know how to word it correctly.

been trying it out with various different combinations.
Vanilla AOKP and CM seem ok.
ThDudes's CM 10.2 + Diablo Kernel (Kernel already fused into the rom) button issue still persists, UBER Kernel flashed with TWRP on both AOKP on CM button issue persists.
but then, if I reflash vanilla AOKP or CM through TWRP the issue will still persist.
Its either the Kernel or TWRP, as you "shouldnt" flash UBER through CWP i cant quite isolate the problem.
been going back and forth quite a bit here, I would love to stick with vanilla AOKP or CM but idle battery drain is extremely excessive, and they both crash when trying to change the governor.
I am just trying to find a good stable ground to operate on as I save up for an S4 and to have a well known return point after I go on a flashing spree.
I have only been dabbling with 4.3 based roms, so I havent had the chance to try any previous version roms yet, other than Rushing's Shadow rom which was great with battery, super fast, but sadly had touchwiz which i tried to get used to but it was missing alot of the things I needed.

I'll have to give that a try. Been out of the loop on slimbean, used it for a little on my S1 Vibrant a while ago.
Just flashed LiquidSmooth, and apart from being only 4.1.2 AOSP, seems to be running pretty well.

Most Stable ROM for This Phone

I've flashed at least 7 ROMs at this point, and I have experienced nothing but boot-loops, crashes, camera issues, and random reboots. Each time that I have tried a ROM, I would have to eventually switch back to stock ROM because of the bugs. So my question to you all is, is there ANY ROM out there that has no common bugs like wifi connectivity issues, gps issues, boot loops, camera issues, etc.? I really want to find a stable rom for this phone because the stock rom is unbearably laggy and I know that this phone can be a lot faster than it is acting.
Thank you so much for at least reading this, and if you can give me an extremely stable rom, then I would be very grateful
Using cm12.1 March nightly
Hello, I have recently got this phone and mine is a d2tmo, so I searched many roms and checked out their comments section, but couldn't find any official cm12.1 topics. But did find CM12.1 Rom in the official website.
download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=d2tmo&type=nightly
have been running this rom from past 1 week, I think the battery is not good enough, but overall other issues dont seem to be popping around so freuently. Yes, I recommend it as a daily driver.
P.S: just today, CM13 Nightly has been uploaded, might not be the daily driver, but happy that there's Marshmallow for this 4 year old phone.
I've been using Slimkat 9.0 (KitKat 4.4.4) for over a year now. Fast, stable, bugsfree, minimalistic, easy on battery (24hr+ on 4yr old battery!) & efficient. http://slimroms.net/index.php/downloads/dlsearch/viewcategory/1183-d2lte -- try it u will love it

I had been dirty flashing (without really knowing what that is) the first android 6.0 rom for the S3 and it was going swell til they switched to the cyanogen nightly and everything broke on me, random restarts, Snapchat front camera never worked. But thank you for the recommendation, I flashed it (clean flash this time) and everything works and it's my daily driver now
