Thank you for replying, can you just explain how? and what is the latest valid rom that I can get to my Desire HD?
Thank you again
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5xVl2dBTnmI#
You have to extract the boot.img from the zip you are trying to flash inside the folder you have fastboot. Then you give the command fastboot flash boot boot.img to flash the new kernel.
You could also install 4EXT recovery and use smartflash as long as you are s-on.
Thanx a million for all.. I will try to do that today and will forward the results.
Thanx again
ONE QUESTION:
shall I connect the devise at the buginning or after flashinf the boot comand? and in what status the devise should be connected (fastboot or recovery)?
Another thing: as Im running windows, my PC is recognizing the device imidietly, so do I still hav to install any drive from htcdev ? and what drive is that ?
Sorry for that but as I said before, Im a little noob in this..
Thanx in advance..
OK, here are the results:
did the tutorial to the letter as in the link, everything went well till the end, after that I restarted the devise and simply it goes to recovery?
now everytime I restart the devise it goes to recovery automatically?

I told you to install 4ext if you like!
4ext is a recovery with the ability either you are S-ON or S-OFF user can flash for you any kernel you like with smart flash.
What you probably did was to flash this recovery as kernel for your device. If you want to install this recovery you have to install it to recovery partition using fastboot flash recovery {your recovery.img}.
If you want to make your rom working again you have to extract the boot.img file from the zip you was trying to install using recovery and you flash it manually using fastboot flash boot boot.img or you could use 4ext to flash it with smartflash but it would be better if you installed it first to the recovery partition (If you use 4ext now you probably have to make a full flash of your rom except if you find only the kernel in a zip or you have an older nandroid backup with the right kernel to restore).
** You have to enable smartflash only if you are S-ON.If you S-OFF your device you should disable this feature. **

Just extract the boot.img of the rom zip you was trying to install in the folder you have the fastboot and then install it using the command fastboot flash boot boot.img while you are in bootloader.
Don't be confused with 4ext.This is just a recovery like cwm.

Today, i did a full wipe and tried to flash the Leedroid 3.03 rom.
But it was stuck on the splash screen for over 20 mins so i decided to forget it and go back to Eddy's Rom. But i have tried that rom, neo's new rom and a modaco rom but all get stuck at splash screen.
Can somepne please help me?
I have tried to flash the modaco and teppic stock 2.2 rom and get the following error;
E: Cant chown/mod /system/xbin
(no such file or directory)
E:Failure at line 66
set_perm_recursive 0 2000 0755 0755 SYSTEM:Xbin
The only rom that works is redux, seems very strange.
Anyone know what the problem is?
Anyone??
Is there anyway to find out what the phone is doing when stuck on the splash screen?
thanks

i think ur havin issus with the clockworkmod recovery i would recommand using a fake flash
very easy to do download wat ive uploaded and then go into recovery and select
alpharev cwm recovery == apply sdcard update zip will install a tempory cwm recovery then flash ur rom
clockworkmod recovery === apply update from sdcard will install a tempory cwm recovery then flash ur rom
plus depending on the rom ur tryin to install u may need to change the hboot
use alpharev web site to get the hboot http://alpharev.nl/
and use this utility to flash new hboot must be in fastboot to work

Thanks, but im currently using AmonRA if that makes a difference.
Do i still need to do this procedure?
How do you normally flash your rom? Rebooting and entering recovery via vol down and power on??
If so then download ROM Manager from the market and try using that to flash a ROM.
If that fails then try updating your recovery image via fastboot and flash a different recovery version.
Have you S-off'd and flashed a custom hboot?

no this sudnt make a difference buddy just try and apply the update zip so that u can flash the rom as some rom require a upto date recovery i use the stock recovery and also use a update zip to install rom that require a lastest recovery
Thanks, so just to double check.
Flash the update.zip that you have uploaded and then flash the rom straight after?
Also i get the following error when i do ADb shell whilst the phone is on the splash screen,
link_image[1995]: failed to link /system/bin/sh
CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE
I have tried using ROM manager but same problem.

Hi guys im currently running clockwork mod 4 which came when i s-offd but it has it limits, so ive got a zip of 2.0.5.7 i think! when i flash the zip its ok to use but when i switch off its goes back to 4. how can i get permanent 2.05.7 version o my desire?
You're flashing the ROM manager fake flash version? You can't flash recovery from recovery. You can only fastboot flash it. See the fastboot guide in my signature.
cheer rootsu, no im not using rom manager, i have i 2.5 zip file so i spose im fake flashing that way.
never done fastboot flash have to see it in ur sig.
No no, what I mean is you have downloaded the same update.zip of fake flash cwm 2.5.0.7 that rom manager uses. This cant be used at all. You will need one that ends with .img
I would personally use Amon_Ra recovery..... Just preference but I think its more reliable...
If you do chose another recovery bare in mind that only CWM can restore CWM recoveries
Yeah its horses for courses. I use cwm 2.5.0.7 personally

ok i got the img so now i fastboot it>>???
Is your phone s-off? If not, you cannot use fastboot.
If it is, here are the commands:
Code:
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery C:\recovery.img
I assume your recovery image is named recovery.img and stored on partiton C: on a windows computer. If it's not, change "C:\recovery.img" so that it fits.

Hey guys I've just unlocked the bootloader on my HOX and installed CWM and rooted. I had a Galaxy S2 before so flashing roms was a bit different and before I end up bricking my my new phone, I just wanted to get some more info/confirmation as to what I (think) I know before flashing a new rom, Android Revolution. Hopefully this can help some other noobs.
I've downloaded the required files, the rom zip, the kernel bootimg and super wipe.
I have a FAIR GENERAL idea of the steps but I'd like to confirm here before damaging my device.
To my knowledge:
1) Place the rom zip on the internal SD card via USB cable as normal along with the super wipe zip.
2) Boot into the bootloader, enter fastboot and connect the phone via USB and open CMD from the same folder used to root it, with those files present. When CMD is opened enter fastboot devices to ensure the device is being detected and then flash the bootimg kernel using the command "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
3) (unsure of this step and following steps...) After flashing the bootimg via adb reboot the device and enter bootloader mode again and this time enter recovery.
4) In CWM, reset to factory settings (data wipe), clear cache, clear davlik and then flash the super wipe zip and finally flash the rom.
Those are the steps I know..and I've also read of a .bat file to execute the adb commands automatically but I don't know exactly how that works and I'm a bit scared to try it. I've done my research so please don't flame me for asking this, I'm just scared as hell to brick my new phone.
If someone has a clearer simpler list of steps please post them or please correct any errors I have there. Thanks in advance for the help guys

Making the bat file is very simple..I'll help you on fb if you want...Everything else looks good though...do you really need to connect to the pc every time you want to flash? 0_0

The bat file isn't an issue..once I have the correct commands (if someone can confirm that too it'd be appreciated ) I'm good. And yeah I think so because a kernel ..or bootimg can't be flashed in CWM cuz its S-On ..so anytime u need to flash a new rom I guess you'd have to flash the kernel for that Rom via fastboot.

Problem with fastboot
Hi. I have padfone2. I have rooted it and all was fine. i removed some stock apps and before installing recovery and backing up the phone i did factory reset. Now the phone shows asus logo then shows android logo with progress bar and few seconds later it reboots and does it again and again. I want to flash a custom rom so i started the phone in fastboot with power/volume buttons. All the screen shows is "Fastboot!!!" at the top of the screen and asus logo somewhere in the middle. I flashed suggested twrp with "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" from the cmd and it looked ok. When I rebooted the phone it went straight into the loop again. When I start it in fastboot mode there is no menu or anything else to start the recovery. What do I need to do to open it. Please help. Thanks.
This is the one V forum so I don't know what you can flash, but when your phone restarts (boot loop) you must have flashed a wrong kernel. To reboot into recovery connect the pad to the pc and type in cmd "adb reboot recovery" then just flash the right kernel, you have to find that on your own, check the thread of the rom you are trying to use

I just want to have cwm touch because i want to try out cwm touch recovery. I have tried flashing new recovery and it says its complete and everything went well(via cmd). I've also tried flashing new recovery through rom manager, when im installing cwm touch it says its been complete but doesnt actually do anything, and when im trying to flash cwrp it says installation failed.
What could be the problem?

Second use command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Third try Philz recovery it is really good.
Four When you flash the recovery after this run the command fastboot erase cache after this restart in recovery and you will see your new recovery
