Hey guys, first of all im sorry if its in the wrong section(im a noob).
So, ive recently rooted my phone via the htcdev, everything went well ive flashed cwm and im using cm as my rom but my problem is that i cannot flash a new recovery. I just want to have cwm touch because i want to try out cwm touch recovery. I have tried flashing new recovery and it says its complete and everything went well(via cmd). I've also tried flashing new recovery through rom manager, when im installing cwm touch it says its been complete but doesnt actually do anything, and when im trying to flash cwrp it says installation failed.
What could be the problem?

First are your bootloader Unlocked not Relocked
Second use command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Third try Philz recovery it is really good.
Four When you flash the recovery after this run the command fastboot erase cache after this restart in recovery and you will see your new recovery

try flashing philz recovery 5.15.up. this is the best recovery for hox. you can flash roms easily with this. before flashing make sure that your device should meet all the needs.

Are you read the thread the problem been solved before three post!!!
Reading is a gift.....use it !

as i have seen many threads stating that in the custom recovery one cannot charge the phone, so i thought why not use the stock recovery after flashing the rom!!
1. i flashed a custom rom in the custom recovery
2. after the first boot, i went to the hboot and flashed the stock recovery
3.restarted the phone and booted back to the custom rom, no reboots, no hangs what so ever, rom booted normally
4. switched my phone off from the bootloader to check if it works and voila it is charging !!!!
5.to flash a custom Rom just flash a custom recovery in the fastboot
i do know that you have to flash a recovery every time you flash a custom rom but till a proper fix is found it is better to do this than depend on your luck
Edit: (credits to cpv5 for this info)Make sure you don't go to recovery when you're on stock recovery as it will wipe everything on your phone & virtual sdcard and you will be back to setup screen again.

even better is that once you have done the OTA update to 1.28 you get the new Hboot which can boot properly so you never have to replace the stock recovery. just fastboot boot recovery.img if you need to change rom or nandroid
I dont think that the 1.28 Hboot has fixed the fastboot boot commands...
You can fastboot boot a recovery? not just a boot.img?

Very interesting, seems to be working for recoveries here as well (s-on unlocked hboot 0.94).
I'm really interested if this works properly for zImages as well. I thought PaulOBrein was working with htc for a solution for this "fastboot boot" though? Maybe some parts ain't working?
This is a great tip, thanks!
and is it just me, or does adb work when fastboot booting clockwork with the stock recovery flashed?!

Has a question here, how do we flash stock recovery in hboot? I only know the way of flashing stock recovery via fastboot with the command of "fastboot flash recovery [recovery name].img*
Is my way wrong or there is some other way?

Because the stock recovery doesn't have menu like the CWM recovery, so once you choose recovery, the recovery process will run. Not like the CWM recovery, you need to choose which function to run.
So two things can happens when you go to recovery when you're on stock recovery:
1) the recovery will runs and wipe everything on your phone (I tested this)
2) the recovery will runs and there is error where you see the phone logo with red triangle, then you need to shutdown and restart to your current ROM.

Hi!
I have flashed my HTC One X, but it didn't work well so i would back. But i messed it up.. CWM cant see my sdcard/ anymore.. So i cant do a USB fastboot, the windows scripts are failing etc..
Am i Bricked?
Daan
Can u please elaborate? Flashed your OneX?
Your Recovery version?
Hi,
Yes. Yesterday i flashed from RevolutionHD Rom to Leedroid HD. Because Leedroid has errors i went today from Leedroid to MiUI. The same errors(was the backup-.-)
But then i would go back to Leedroid(love it<3). There went "something"wrong, dont know what..
It started with the /cache/ that was not asseble.. now the whole /sdcard/ isn't anymore.. That says CWM.
clockwordMod recovery 5.8.1.8

It doesnt come in android anymore.

U don't need to worry about that. Only your cwm recovery isn't detecting ur sd partition. I doesn't matter, Just goto bootloader, connect to your pc and flash the latest recovery using 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img' cmd
I hope you are aware of this.

Why don't you first try to flash a recovery? It looks like your recovery went haywire. In bootloader, go to fastboot, issue the following from your PC's cmd prompt:
fastboot flash recovery <full path to your recovery file>.img
CWM released a new recovery today 5.8.4.0. I flashed it and it works.
EDIT. You can find all the required adb and fastboot files in this tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24967468&postcount=1
The CWM recovery file included is older but it works.

There is another recovery option available in the Development thread: TeamWin Recovery
Try using that. I read somewhere that people having problems with CWM flashed TeamWin and were successful.
EDIT: Before flashing either CWM or twrp, maybe you should try erasing your recovery partition and cache partition with
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase recovery
and then flash the recovey image.
EDIT 2: Another option would be to flash the stock recovery. I don't know what your regioncode/CID is. Find the appropriate stock recovery and flash that.

what status of your phone bootloader...?
maybe you can try flashing another custom recovery like 4EXT or TWRP
download recovery.img 4EXT or TWRP
place recovery.img file in sdk/ adb folder on your computer
and flashing through FASTBOOT .. with command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
already have 4EXT or TWRP..then you can try wipe/ factory reset before installing rom again...
don't forget to flashing manually boot.img too after installing any custom rom if your bootloader status unlocked but still S-ON..
what du you mean status of your phone bootloader? I have unlocked bootloadern via HTCdev. Thats what you mean?
Havent still figured out if its S-ON. Dont not yet know what Son/off means. Will google it

yap..that's what i mean...
you can see the status of your bootloader when you're turn on your phone with hold volume down + power button then the phone will show up bootloader like locked or unlocked, s-on or s-off, hboot version, radio version, fastboot, recovery etc..
because of your phone unlocked via htcdev unlock..it seems the bootloader is still s-on..
so like what say before about your problem is...maybe you can try flashing another custom recovery like 4EXT recovery tuch or TWRP..choice one
after you have installing new recovery..then you can installing any custom rom but don't forget that you must always flashing manually boot.img too after every installing any custom rom before reboot the rom for the first time...
hopefully this can help..
jizzz... it dosnt seem like i ever gonna get this to work. I did flash the custom recovery 4ext and the cmd-line on the pc did say flash sucsess... But when i tried recovery i just got an white screen with htc-logo. Had to pull out the batteri to boot the mobile up again..
Edit: I got the TWPR working
Now i got installed the custom rom and everething is workin flawlessly (only memory shows 592, shouldnt it be 768?). THX alot for your help

Google a little bit. Part of ram that you don't see is used by android for a kernel to work.
Dear friends
been trying to flash the CM11 or the CM7 ace but no success..
looked for many downloads regarding VISIONary+ and others (most couldnt get due toinvalis links)
Managed to unlock the boot (naw it says xxx UNLOCKED xxx on HBOOT screen) but with the S-ON.
everytime i add a zip flash rom to root from sdcard I recieve the massege invalis operation > root from oem-001 and the mobile starts all over with the same settings.
Please help putting in mind that whos on the other side of your thread is some how noob in this..
Thank you in advance for all the help.

Thank you for replying, can you just explain how? and what is the latest valid rom that I can get to my Desire HD?
Thank you again
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5xVl2dBTnmI#
You have to extract the boot.img from the zip you are trying to flash inside the folder you have fastboot. Then you give the command fastboot flash boot boot.img to flash the new kernel.
You could also install 4EXT recovery and use smartflash as long as you are s-on.
Thanx a million for all.. I will try to do that today and will forward the results.
Thanx again
ONE QUESTION:
shall I connect the devise at the buginning or after flashinf the boot comand? and in what status the devise should be connected (fastboot or recovery)?
Another thing: as Im running windows, my PC is recognizing the device imidietly, so do I still hav to install any drive from htcdev ? and what drive is that ?
Sorry for that but as I said before, Im a little noob in this..
Thanx in advance..
OK, here are the results:
did the tutorial to the letter as in the link, everything went well till the end, after that I restarted the devise and simply it goes to recovery?
now everytime I restart the devise it goes to recovery automatically?

I told you to install 4ext if you like!
4ext is a recovery with the ability either you are S-ON or S-OFF user can flash for you any kernel you like with smart flash.
What you probably did was to flash this recovery as kernel for your device. If you want to install this recovery you have to install it to recovery partition using fastboot flash recovery {your recovery.img}.
If you want to make your rom working again you have to extract the boot.img file from the zip you was trying to install using recovery and you flash it manually using fastboot flash boot boot.img or you could use 4ext to flash it with smartflash but it would be better if you installed it first to the recovery partition (If you use 4ext now you probably have to make a full flash of your rom except if you find only the kernel in a zip or you have an older nandroid backup with the right kernel to restore).
** You have to enable smartflash only if you are S-ON.If you S-OFF your device you should disable this feature. **

Just extract the boot.img of the rom zip you was trying to install in the folder you have the fastboot and then install it using the command fastboot flash boot boot.img while you are in bootloader.
Don't be confused with 4ext.This is just a recovery like cwm.
