I have two identical phones that do the same exact thing. When I press the back button or the play store menu button, it crashes. every time.
I can, however open the menu by swiping right. I can also go back by pressing the back softbutton.
Both phones are the same with the same firmware and version. It doesn't do this on my nexus 7 using the same account.
I'm having this same issue. Did a factory reset and that didn't change anything. I'm wondering if the new version of Play is just broken with the OG :/

It is. On 4.1.2 Jellybean the Google Play Store crashes everytime when the left top tab is clicked using Sprint LS970 LG Optimus G. Flash Cyanogenmod 11 4.4.4 KitKat ROM and the crashing wont happen anymore.

Same force close here on stock LGOG.
I just made it a habit of swiping instead of pushing the tab.
Open up playstore
Then from left side of the screen, swipe to the right. That the only way you'll see the settings and my apps section

I have the same problem i am rooted and was throwing away bloatware every now and then i tend to hit a button accidently no room
to hold the phone without touching the screen here and there so i thought i accidently deleted it somehow until i found out the apk is still
in system\app, titanium backup shows it as uninstalled since there is no more icon on the home screen or the app drawer.
Anyone have any idea how we can get it back so all works again?

The only way I could get it back was by restoring to factory settings.
Hope this doesn't happen again.

wow that sucks i only have the phone a few days but going to a custom rom now i am on 4.1.1 sofar no update from samsung and the custom rom oddly enough is based on samsung but 4.1.2 i hope that also fixes the gally and whatever caused it to make it vanish. Weird though that only 2 persons have this issue it seems i expected alot more. Thanks again for your reply and on how to fix it.
well, use Rescan Media Root (if rooted), and also Rescan Media app.
Both can be found on play store.. :silly:

Well too be honest (too late now im now on custom rom omega) i doubt it works i noticed an other app vanished which was the clock app,
and since i sometimes use it to time something or just a simple alarm i noticed this today just before moving to the custom rom.
Something very wrong and crazy going on with the samsung stock rom especially since it even happened for him who didnt modify anything.
Since the JSS15Q upgrade, my back button often fails to do anything. It lights up when I touch it but no action occurs. This indicates that the touch is detected by the touch screen.
I restarted in Safe Mode and the problem does not occur. This lead me to believe it is caused by an app. After restarting in normal mode, my keyboard remained Google Keyboard instead of my normal Swiftkey Tablet Keyboard. I did a short test using Google Keyboard and the back button seems to act normally. I suspect, based on this short test, that JSS15Q and Swiftkey Tablet have some sort of incompatibility. More testing is needed to confirm.
I have confirmed the conflict. Swiftkey Tablet and JSS15Q do not play well together.

Had that issue in the beginning but after the update have it no more well at least not that often as before it rarely fail now.
BTW have SwiftKey Tablet and I can confirm it doesn't like Android 4.3 in general. Is not the Tablet is the App.

Maybe it is not Swiftkey. The back button has failed without Swiftkey running but it happens rarely. Back to the hunt for the cause...

Back Button not responding
Same here.
I was playing either Tapped Out or Real Racing 3 one day (2 weeks ago) and all of the sudden the back button wont respond. The light goes on but it does not function.
My 2012 Nexus 7 does not have any swiftkey installed nor is it rooted.
I formatted the Nexus 7 and it is still doing the same thing prior to downloading all my apps from Google Play.
I've noticed the same thing on recently on my Nexus 7. Back button is "pressed", but fails to do anything.
Seems to occur in several different apps.
I don't have Swiftkey installed.
It's only started happening recently, but not at a specific enough time that I can directly correlate it with some specific change (or app I installed/updated).
UPDATE:
For what it's worth, I noticed one other symptom that seems to correlate with the Back button misbehaving.
I use ADW Launcher Ex, and use PIN security on my lock screen, no widgets. I have the Quick Launch disabled. Normally, there would be nothing showing in the soft buttons row. Just recently, the dotted circle of the Quick Launch showed back up. I mostly mention this because it seems something is messing with my Soft Buttons,
UPDATE 2:
I found a way to reproduce: I use Battery Monitor Widget Pro (excellent app, btw). I have recordings every 1 min, history file size 4MB. When I look at the History as a list, and swipe down through the long columns of numbers, often the Back Button fails to work. That's a pretty uncommon way to Reproduce the problem, but something I noticed.
I have also had the Back Button stop while just browsing through my files using Root Explorer.
I had this problem today and found a cure.....it works for me anyway...do not allow Google Keyboard to update to version 2.0.19133.927933a.
Version 2.0.19003.937116a works fine.
I purchased my Nexus 7 today and it booted with 4.3....had it rooted before I allowed the 4.4.2 system update to apply.
I always turn off automatic app updates when I get a new device....this helped me find the problem.
I then applied the system update and it was still working well. Had to re-root, of course.
I had made TWRP backups before and after the system update, so I was in good shape.
Next I started removing apps I did not want, then went on to update apps I was keeping.
Next thing you know...the back button stops working for most operations.
After it aggravated me enough, I restored the post-4.4.2 update backup and the back button worked fine.
I started working my way back to my goal-config and it kept working until my last step......updating the keyboard. Then it failed.
I removed the update and after a reboot the back button works fine. Did this twice to verify the fix.
Hope it helps others!

I have the same issue after unlocked my N7 and did some customizations, would you please upload the working version of Google Keyboard so I could give it a try?
Thanks!
I don't currently have any online account to upload it to. If there is one here at XDA I am not aware of it.
If you PM me an email address I can certainly send the APK for the working version.
Hey what's up guys.... for some odd reason my home button is now my menu button and won't change back. I opened up the phone and the connections are right but It still does it. I tried everything and still a no go and don't know what to do next
Do you have xposed installed?

Go to wanam xposed, settings and look for home button behavior. Then change it to default or whatever you want.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Wanam doesn't work till the phone boots up so it's not wanam I already checked it. It's something else that's causing this
Thus should be In the q&a section but I think if you're running xposed and you have Samsung keyboard hold delay module on, it will mess with your physical buttons so disable the module if you have it
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
I'll have to wait till I get home to take it apart again and go over everything to make sure everything looks good

This is a weird post.
1) Why would you open the phone to check this? did you open the phone and physically do something to it first?
2) You provided no real info about your phone, rooted?, have any root modules installed? Using a different rom?
Sounds like you are messing around and now have messed something up. hard to fathom what the issue is with out any real clue what you are doing to it.

@krelvinaz what's soo weird about the post ??? When the iPhone home button fails it's usually the connection popping off. The note 3 is not hard to work on and I done it before so no its not user error because it happened when I was out for dinner last night and actually the home button stopped working completely and now it's working but as a menu button.. I was running jovys rom and kernel and I wasn't using Wanam or exposed.. right now I am running a stock rooted build of my own with a stock kernel no mods and it's still doing it. I jumped to cm11 and aosp and still does the same thing. I had this note 3 since black Friday so returns are out of the question and I do have insurance but it's bothering me that I can't figure it out lol...Whats funny too the phone vibrates when i push the home button like i am pushing the menu n back keys
Fixed it apparently the Home button has a short/bad connection.. i get my replacement on tuesday but at least for now I can use it
Hi, sorry but I'm new in the rooting world so I was hoping to find some help...
A couple of days ago I updated my phone with the 4.3 update from Tmobile and rooted it using Oding 3.07, which apparently worked fine. I got the "PASS" message, rebooted the phone, and bam! Knox was preventing superSU from working correctly. So I re-installed superSU and disabled Knox when it prompted me. OK, that apparently took care of it too once I'm no longer receiving the Knox notifications.
After that I used the Root checker app and it tells me that phone is really rooted.
However, I notice my phone was going crazy after that. I got warning after warning from many apps saying it stopped working. Besides, the phone was extremely slow to the point where apps weren't not even responding! So I just left the phone on, hopeless and thinking on somehow getting it restored the next day and went to bed. When I woke up this morning and checked my phone it was much better, apparently normal - performance and everything else was back to normal but I noticed that the S Note app is crashing every time I try to open it - it opens and just when I get to see my folders/files it crashes with the message: "Unfortunately, S Note stopped working". It keeps doing that over and over.
So considering that S Note is a pretty important app for this phone I was wondering if you guys could help me with this issue.
Thank you so much!
Use app manager snd try to clear cache and data for s note. It may help

Thanks for the hint!
Clearing the cache/data didn't work. Here's how I got it fixed:
1. Add the S Note widget to your screen
2. Tap on the widget's pen button to create a new note
3. Exit S Note - you can also delete this widget right after these steps.
After doing this I was able to open the app directly from the original app icon - which was crashing before.

That's much less exciting than the above fix... uhh... I think I'll go with darekz solution this time
Here's a full proof plan that will work. Use rom tool box or titanium back up and uninstall know completely, flash TWRP recovery, do a factory rest and reboot and you should be golden.
Hi,
My dad's tablet started acting strange after he updated to cyanogenmod snapshot m6. The home button doesn't work, quick settings bar doesn't open and the quick search by swiping the home button up doesn't open. I tried updating to the latest nightly, but no effect. I also tried going back to an older nightly but it didn't help. Clearing cache not working either. Anyone an idea how to solve these annoying issues?
Thanks
Edit: Also when you unlock the screen, it skips the security and when I click on an item after searching Google with Google now only opens a new tab I'm chrome, not loading the link.
