I have the same problem i am rooted and was throwing away bloatware every now and then i tend to hit a button accidently no room
to hold the phone without touching the screen here and there so i thought i accidently deleted it somehow until i found out the apk is still
in system\app, titanium backup shows it as uninstalled since there is no more icon on the home screen or the app drawer.
Anyone have any idea how we can get it back so all works again?

The only way I could get it back was by restoring to factory settings.
Hope this doesn't happen again.

wow that sucks i only have the phone a few days but going to a custom rom now i am on 4.1.1 sofar no update from samsung and the custom rom oddly enough is based on samsung but 4.1.2 i hope that also fixes the gally and whatever caused it to make it vanish. Weird though that only 2 persons have this issue it seems i expected alot more. Thanks again for your reply and on how to fix it.

well, use Rescan Media Root (if rooted), and also Rescan Media app.
Both can be found on play store.. :silly:

Well too be honest (too late now im now on custom rom omega) i doubt it works i noticed an other app vanished which was the clock app,
and since i sometimes use it to time something or just a simple alarm i noticed this today just before moving to the custom rom.
Something very wrong and crazy going on with the samsung stock rom especially since it even happened for him who didnt modify anything.

Screen not turning off on its own

So lately my phone's developed the above mentioned problem. I've set it to turn off after 30 secs but obviously it's not doing that. I'm guessing it has to do with some app i installed but how do i figure out which one's causing the problem?
I'm stock with the latest firmware. Not rooted

If you believe it is an app that is not allowing it to shutdown the screen, go see what running apps in the App Manager looks suspicious. shut them down if you find it. Or do a reboot. Do you also have smart stay enabled and staring at the screen? I only ask because I have stupidly done that...
I had that problem yesterday and then it just went away by itself
i tried battery pull n everything... nothing.
so i deleted a couple of apps and it's back to normal now. I deleted drivelink and pulse. If i were to bet i think drivelink was the culprit as it was installed as an apk
i have drivelink tooo
so thats the problem eh
perfect.. cuz it just staarted happening again
Pulse for me...

Nexus randomly reboots, stock 4.2.. what gives?

This is driving me insane. I'm running stock 4.2, and my phone keeps randomly rebooting in my pocket. I've never used a different ROM, only rooted. Only thing I could say is that I tried to use SuperUser to keep my root after the OTA upgrade, and it did not keep it successfully (is that actually possible yet, btw? I know the GNex Toolkit doesn't seem to support it).
No ideas here. I know I can reset, and I probably will at this point, but.. any causes?
I had the same problem and I find out that hd widget app is making my phone to reboot. After I uninstalled the app I don't have the rebooting problems. If you have the same app try to uninstall it and see if the revolting stops.

I do have that app, and the thought crossed my mind - I was wracking my brain to remember whether or not the rebooting began before or after that install a few days ago.. I will uninstall it and see what happens. Thank you!
Shoot, because I hate the stock lockscreen clock on 4.2
EDIT: Went to uninstall, and my phone soft-rebooted. Guess that answers that..

Pretty sure the reboots are location service related and a bug in 4.2. Hard for me to tell, because I am on AOSP which is a bit different in that regard.

That's what I hear. Which I don't get because I don't use the weather widget, only the clock (unless you're talking time zones or something). Or unless you mean I don't have GPS enabled and it's trying to use it?
I also heard it's from a bug with Google on the 3rd party lockscreen widgets in general.

[Q] Galaxy Note 2 Restarting itself?

I've had my Note 2 for a couple weeks and all the sudden it restarts itself sometimes everytime I put it down. It's annoying. What could be the problem to this?

This is just a theory… but give it a shot.
Every time you put it down, sounds like something has come lose inside of it. Has it been dropped at all since you bought it?
Either way, try this, for starters:
I would suspect that your battery might be a little loose. Fold a small little shred of paper up, and wedge it between the “butt end” of the battery (this opposite side of where the connector pins are) and the device. This will effectively push the battery into the pins a little more, and possible keep it from coming loose.
Also, put a small folded piece of paper directly between the battery and the back cover of the device.
The idea here is to keep the battery from moving around. This will rule out the possibility of it coming loose, and resetting.
Also, take your micro SD card out if you have one.
Are you using any custom ROMs or kernels?
Good luck, I’ll keep an eye on this thread.
Well not every time, sometimes, sometimes when I lock the phone it restarts. Yes I have dropped it couple times, and no I'm not rooTed or running custom roms or kernels. It seems it restarts by itself when My phone automatically updates the apps cause when it turns back on it shows a while bunch of notifications of my apps behind updated

K so for now turn off automatic updating and see if the problem goes away.
Also, why are you not rooted? I would recommend doing this. There is no reason not to be at least rooted.
Also, go into your settings>application manager and wipe data on the following system apps...
Google play store
Google play services
Downloads
Then reboot the device.

Thanks for the help! I'll do all of the things you told me right now!
Well I don't want to be rooted, until the new Jelly Bean comes out. I get some glitches on my phone, like I don't get notifcations from the XDA app anymore and other apps like I wanted them too.

[Q] SGH-T889 - S Note app not working after rooting 4.3

Hi, sorry but I'm new in the rooting world so I was hoping to find some help...
A couple of days ago I updated my phone with the 4.3 update from Tmobile and rooted it using Oding 3.07, which apparently worked fine. I got the "PASS" message, rebooted the phone, and bam! Knox was preventing superSU from working correctly. So I re-installed superSU and disabled Knox when it prompted me. OK, that apparently took care of it too once I'm no longer receiving the Knox notifications.
After that I used the Root checker app and it tells me that phone is really rooted.
However, I notice my phone was going crazy after that. I got warning after warning from many apps saying it stopped working. Besides, the phone was extremely slow to the point where apps weren't not even responding! So I just left the phone on, hopeless and thinking on somehow getting it restored the next day and went to bed. When I woke up this morning and checked my phone it was much better, apparently normal - performance and everything else was back to normal but I noticed that the S Note app is crashing every time I try to open it - it opens and just when I get to see my folders/files it crashes with the message: "Unfortunately, S Note stopped working". It keeps doing that over and over.
So considering that S Note is a pretty important app for this phone I was wondering if you guys could help me with this issue.
Thank you so much!
Use app manager snd try to clear cache and data for s note. It may help

Thanks for the hint!
Clearing the cache/data didn't work. Here's how I got it fixed:
1. Add the S Note widget to your screen
2. Tap on the widget's pen button to create a new note
3. Exit S Note - you can also delete this widget right after these steps.
After doing this I was able to open the app directly from the original app icon - which was crashing before.

That's much less exciting than the above fix... uhh... I think I'll go with darekz solution this time
Here's a full proof plan that will work. Use rom tool box or titanium back up and uninstall know completely, flash TWRP recovery, do a factory rest and reboot and you should be golden.

Selecting Security under settings cause Settings to force close

Is anyone having issues with security setting under personal? When I select it, the settings application force closes with Unfortunately, Settings has stopped. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Standard Verizon note 4. no root.
Played around a bit and decided to do a settings reset which corrected issue.

I had the same issue, factory reset fixed it but now 2 days later the problem has returned. Can't access the security settings without it force closing.

Thanks for the feedback. Reset settings worked for me. Only had to change a few things back from default. Did not have to redo apps. I spoke with Verizon and a patch may be coming in Jan. Some apps and wireless charging have been causing an issue with the security setting.

Yeah just tried resetting the settings and it didn't fix it for me. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Problem returned for me last night. This time I had to reset. Did the problem come back again for you?
Resetting the settings didn't work for me and I don't feel like factory resetting my phone every couple days so I guess it's gonna stick around a while.

I had to start in safe mode to get security settings to open up for me. Not a great long term solution but it worked so I could change the unknown sources setting.
Thanks for the reply, how do you start in safe mode?
These are the instructions for the Note 3 but they work:
With the device powered off, press and hold the Power button until the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 logo appears then release.
With the logo on the screen, press and hold the Volume down button until Safe mode appears in the lower left of the screen then release.
Note This may take up to 45 seconds.
Thanks!

Thank you. Just got this device today, and one of the first things I tried to do was install an app I am testing. It kept crashing trying to get to security. I tried Safe Mode, and it worked great. Thanks again.

That kept happening to me and I finally figured out a solution! I kept having my apps reinstalled from Google and, whenever an app that I had previously used that required root access was installed, Settings would crash whenever I tried to open Security. So, it was a long process but I reinstalled only those apps that didn't need root access. Afterwards, I kept testing to make sure I could still access Security without the crash and, when something was installed that caused the crash again, I knew which app it was, uninstalled it, and all was fine again. I had to reset the phone 6 times to figure this out but all's good now!

Glad you got it working. Would you be able to tell me what app it was? I have the same problem.
I had so many apps that needed root that it just made sense to not have Google install my apps after resetting. I really can't recall specifically which one it was. What I do suggest, which will take a while but is so worth the time, is to make a list of what's on there now and only reinstall like 3 at a time and then check to make sure that everything's ok. If it is, install a couple more, etc. That way, if one screws it up, you'll know which one to uninstall rather than having to reset it all over again. At least if you do install one that needs root and, therefore, screws it up for you, you can just uninstall that one program. Good luck! Let me know how it goes. ☺
Was finally able to figure this out (for me anyway). Its my S View cover. With the cover off I have no problem getting into security put it back on and it forcecloses. I went to Best Buy and tried 2 others and they both caused the security to forceclose as well.
Was chatting with a Samsung Rep where they remotely control your phone and she came up with the conclusion that it is a bad app and wants me to do a factory reset and add the apps back 1 at a time. I will wait till I flash a ROM and do it then. I am leaning towards that it is a app. If every Note 4 with a S View cover had this issue then it would be more widely known.
I had the S cover and that wasn't the problem. Like I said, it was cos I was having Google automatically install my old apps, some of which were apps that needed root like Titanium Backup, Rom Toolbox, etc.. I was able to put Apex as my home, just not apps that needed root. Titanium is the reason I want root so much. Being able to clean up or delete apps I don't use.
Yes, i had the same problem with my s view cover. Once i took it off, i was able to go back into the security settings.

I figured out the app that was causing the issue for me. I use Nova and also TelsaUnread. I uninstalled Telsa and no more problem even with the S View cover.
