[Q] Towelroot - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just received my LG G3 in the mail yesterday and I'm trying to root it with Towelroot. When I click the 'half-life' button on the site all it does is endlessly open new windows of (towelroot.com/tr.apk) only way I can get it to stop is by open recent apps and ending the app. Can anyone help me with this?

Not used towelroot but can't you use purpledrake?

I've been away from the android game for awhile since I had an iPhone for the last two years. From my understanding Towelroot was an untethered root and the easiest way to do so. Otherwise I was going to try ioroot. Haven't heard of purpledrake till you just mentioned it.

You can use Stumproot for all models of G3. Here is the link for the latest version 1.2.0

I am rooted with stump root too

Thanks, I rooted with Stumproot. Worked perfectly. Anyone have suggestions of apps or things I should get? Also I'm trying to remove some bloatware. I downloaded an app called NoBloat although it doesn't show all of the Bloatware for example NFL Mobile, Isis Wallet, Slacker Radio, Google Books etc.. Is there other ways I can do this?
Another thing.. I remember I used to have a XDA Developer App Store of some sort, is that still available and how do I get it?

Use Titanium Backup.

What's absolutely mandatory for me in my rooted phones:
* SuperSU, obviously... (To allow root impersonation -su- in all apps)
* Titanium Backup (to debloat / freeze / change between user and system apps, I don't really use the backup feature)
* Some AdBlocker (I use AdFree, but there are many more AdBlock, AdAway, etc.)
* Greenify (Hibernate apps you don't need to run constantly)
* Xposed framework with some modules depending on the ROM I use (for AOSP I use GravityBox, for the G3 the excellent G3 TweaksBox, you can't live without it!)
* Trickster MOD for kernel changes
And that's about it. I also give root access to my file explorers (I use mostly Solid Explorer) and some others.

Use purpledrake to get root.

Why Should i root this phone?

Hello guys,
Just traded my Galaxy S2 for a GN and am new to this phone.
Since i allready have android 4.0.4 IMM76I is there any need to root this phone?
What will it add or improve.
Please enlighten me with your extensive knowledge
Thanks in advance.
I still haven't rooted mine, after spending a couple years rooting and ROMing my devices. Love this phone bone stock.
Of course you should. Root gives you admin access to your phone. Do you own a computer and not have full admin access? Same situation.
Its up to what you can imagine and you can change it with root. Tweaks, theme status bar, system folder access, hide nav buttons, on and on.
root is a definite...flashing roms though, thats not entirely necessary since stock is still awesome
You should root it because it's a Nexus

The *only* reason I root is to install an ad blocker. The only reason I install custom ROMs is to get rid of bloatware. So for this phone, I rooted it almost immediately, but am still on stock ROM (Thanks, Google!)
Other people will give you other reasons why to root, but it'll all boil down to "I desperately want to [activity] but I can't if it's not rooted." If you have something like that, by all means root. Otherwise, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Because you can't use any of these apps properly without root:
Adfree
Adaway
Market Enabler
Quick Boot
Titanium Backup
Google Wallet (for those of us outside the U.S.)
Market unlocker
Light Flow
Call Recorder
Car Home
Chainfire3D
SetCPU
And, most importantly: StickMount

[Q] android pay working for anyone?

I am running on stock rooted OF8 and can't seem to run android pay. Setting it up it says that it can't determine if it is compatible. Google wallet did work before. Anyone else run into this?
Apparently it doesn't work on rooted phones. Read some where that you can activate it and then root afterwards but haven't tried it yet.

works for me non root for now
Were i can find android pay ?
It worked for me non rooted at a vending machine. Though rooted or not at Maverick and Smiths, (3 times total) it has caused my phone to freeze after I verify my pattern lock.
Anyone having that issue?
Haven't been even able to set it up. Rooted on OF8. I'm going to flash the new build tonight and see if I can get it working before I root again and see what happens.
Use an app like RootCloak or HideMyRoot. Once you hide root you can add your cards with no problems. Using it to pay you will need to hide root again.... way too many steps for it to be convenient for me.

Where can I get a working version of either of those apps? All the ones I found doing a Google search are outdated and people say they don't work anymore.
I use Hide My Root from the PlayStore. It worked for what i needed but you cant use it for individual apps like RootCloak can. I'm odexed and can't get RootCloak going.

Worked for me today at mcdonalds i unrooted so i can update to get samsung pay.

[Q] Help with getting Android Pay to work on rooted Note 4 with CM12.1

I need help with getting Android Pay to work on my rooted Note 4 because I keep getting the Android Pay cannot be used message. I do know that Android Pay does does block rooted users so I've tried various workarounds with none of them working.
I tried the method where I installed Root Cloak and added Android Pay, Google Play Service and Google Service Framework to apps it hides root from and cleared the data from those 3 apps. I also installed No Device Check since from what I saw, Android Pay does use SafetyNet to check your devices firmware whether it has been modified or not. Does anybody have any ideas of how to get this to work without losing root access or having to go back to stock?

I disabled supersu and was able to add my credit cards however when i go to use it for example at a vending machine at school i get a message that says something like, Amex**** is unable to be used at this time and the same goes for my discover.

FULLY unroot

Hi,
Does anyone know if this phone can be fully UN-rooted so apps like Barclays Bank app and Pingit can work on it?
Supersu unroot doesn't work nor do Hide Root stuff.
Mine was pre-loaded with Eragon ROM by the Ebayer who I got it from which in general was a good thing.
In the meantime, I've put it back to stock.
Can anyone install Pingit app on this phone? (you don't need a Barclays account or anything... just try and install it and it detects root).
Thanks.
Hmm no replies to this one.
OK, can someone confirm to me whether the P8000 is FULLY unrooted when it's new? The hardware is great so I'm thinking of getting the Vowney but not if Elephone mobiles are rooted from the start.
I know it's all about rooting and putting custom ROMs but it's annoying when some apps you NEED (like banking) won't run on them.
Can someone who hasn't done anything to their P8000 check for me please? Just download the Barclays Pingit app and try to install it. If it installs, it's fully unrooted.
Thanks.
You can install the Stock Firmware with so Flashtool soul be unrooted then

Certainly with my P8000 and many others from comments in this forum, the phone came with some of the necessary root files/binaries installed. To root all that was necessary for me was to install SuperSU from the Play store.

Yeah, my hope is to fully UN-root the phone (so it's NOT rooted). There are certain apps like Barclays Banking and Pingit apps that won't install if it even sniffs that it's been rooted.
So, the guy I got the phone from put Eragon OS on it for me. So it must have got rooted then.
I've flashed it myself following the instructions on the official Elephone site using the Flashtool and put the latest Stock Rom on (complete with malware!) but it is still classified as ROOTED.
Root Checker says: Root access is not properly installed on this device.
My other phone (LG G Flex 2) is DEFINITELY not rooted and it comes up with the same 'not properly installed' as well but is ok with Barclays apps.
If I flashed the stock back on, should I theoretically be fully unrooted (obviously not...). What do I need to do to FULLY unroot it please?

Nope, I've literally just flashed it with the latest stock ROM (20151105). No virus in this one!
Barclays apps still think it's rooted.
Sorry for asking noob questions but Root doesn't survive Flashing does it?
Try checking with root checker app from playstore
Yeah I said in the previous post:
Root Checker says the same on my definitely UNROOTED LG G FLex 2 and on my Stock Rom P8000 which I've just flashed.
Root access is not properly installed on this device.
Barclays Bank app works fine on my Flex but root is detected on the P8000 saying it's rooted.
So is it possible to TOTALLY UN-ROOT the phone? UN-ROOT. Not Root. UN-ROOT.
Download es file manager ,go to system check sbin, xbin and bin folders for su files and delete them if you find any

Interesting...
So, for example, in the xbin folder I have:
sugote
sugote-mksh
supolicy
daemonsu
BIN folder has:
superumount
There's no sbin folder.
You mean I should delete ANYTHING that has the letters SU in those folders?
When the P8000 is flashed with the stock rom using the FlashTool, what does it do? Does it blat EVERYTHING on the phone or does it leave something somewhere to indicate it's been rooted before?
If it does wipe EVERYTHING and it sets the phone back to how it would be when it's shipped from Elephone, it does indicate that there is some sort of ROOT (files or whatever) to make some apps complain.
Surely there is SOMEONE here who can tell me whether their P8000 is FULLY UNROOTED or not (by trying to install the Pingit app).
I'm almost a fan of buying these generic, no brand China phones cos they're ridiculously cheap and fast but if they're pre-rooted (in some form), they're not much use since you can't run certain apps on them (especially if no-one knows how to UNROOT them). The Elephone Vowney looks so desirable!
Go to system>xbin and see if su file is on your phone and try deleting just the file with the name su and no other files
Nope, no file called SU in there.
So, my question now is:
Eragon ROM WAS put on this phone.
I've now flashed it with stock ROM.
Should it now be UN-rooted? Or at least, as much as it was when it leaves the factory? (obviously it's not EXACTLY the same because the Stock ROM I flashed is much newer).
OR, are Elephone ALWAYS rooted (either half or fully... enough to trip up certain apps)?
I know that if you get phones like OnePlus One, which had a 'custom' ROM (CM), it was still fully un-rooted (ie you can use banking apps on it).
try simply unroot app
It always works for me
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.pinpong.simplyunroot
Hehe I'm interested to see what happens here.
Root Checker says it's unrooted (or it says it's not properly rooted - which isn't necessarily the same.. although that's what it says on my Flex 2 which is DEFINITELY not rooted).
Barclays bank app says it's rooted.
I need to root the device to use the Simply Unroot app.
What are the chances this is going to work..... I know it's only £0.68 but.....
I'll give it a go when I get home!
Thanks.
Nope, Simply Unroot didn't work although I didn't have much hope.
What's the explanation for this kind of thing... where it's flashed with stock rom and apps can tell it's rooted (even Root Checker says it's unrooted).

By the way, the guy who sells Simply Unroot is VERY VERY VERY helpful.
Really nice guy.
He spent a lot of time trying to sort this out for me. In the end, we were unable to get Barclays app to run.
Root Checker and Simply Unroot both thought the phone was unrooted but Barclays apps thinks it is rooted.
Anyway, the point is, even after all his help, he gave me a refund.
5 stars for the developer for his support!
Sounds like a problem with the Barclay's app

[ROOT] Root + applications

Is it possible to still use apps like Snapchat, bank apps, etc. when rooted/xposed installed?
If yes, does it run without issues or do I have to get some workarounds/tricks?
I'm rooted and I was able to use bank app, BUT everything depends of the devs of the app that you use. I read that snapchat doesn't work anymore on rooted phone. Also I think there was app in xposed that can hide root temporary or something. Can't say for sure because I never use it cuz I never need it, but I think is possible. Don't forget you can use adaway if you are rooted.

oh, that bad that now SC doesn't even support rooted, is there at least a way to "disable" root for some time? Some flashable zips to uninstall/install root by "current needs"?
I think there is xposed module for that but can't test because still no xposed for nougat.

I'm on s. Rom marshmallow sense, but using xposed and any module to hide root is possible (I'm using rootcloack module and works perfect) I don't use snapchat but some other apps which don't run on rooted phone , but I'm using them with above setup.
