[Q] Can't move delete files on LG G3 from PC - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, I've had this phone for a little over a month now and it never lets me do anything with the files from my work PC. It was giving me the issue on my laptop at home as well, but when I plugged it into the high speed USB port it worked, I can transfer files just fine. I have all of the drivers downloaded. I can see all the files, just can't put anything on my phone or delete anything from it. It says "filename could not be deleted. You do not have permission to delete this item".

Is your work PC something you have complete control over, or does your IT department lock it down? As an administrator, I can lock down USB devices on my network to prevent file copying, moving, deletion, etc. as a security measure. Is it possible your IT department did that?

It's very possible, yes. I didn't even consider that as an option because I do have certain admin privileges on my computer. I'm able to download things and make certain changes, whereas other people cannot. They can't even update their Skype without an admin pw. It's just annoying to have to do this stuff at home because my laptop is finicky and doesn't always work.

[Q] cant copy files to the phone from pc

i have, on sprint, the galaxy s3, NOT the i900 or whatever that means. mine says model number SPH-L710
i have it rooted with the phantom rom installed, with superuser permissions. however, not sure what happened
but for some reason, i can no longer transfer files, any files, from my pc to the phone. this includes pictures,
music, documents--anything. the files are my personal files and music i ripped, and never had a problem
copying before, and all this just started. unless im hooking it up wrong, which i doubt--using the usb cable from
pc port to the phone directly. it does show the charge icon, and in the usb settings, usb debugging is checked
and also checked on media device (mtp). another option which isn't checked is camera (ptp), unchecked.
what happens when i try is, on the pc i get a box that pops up and says--do you
want to copy (file name), your device might not be able to play or view the file. i do have 2 options, to skip or copy
anyway. well when i click copy, it goes through the motions, but its not on the phone. no matter what file i try, a
pic, small wav file, etc....just will not copy and no
where one the phone is the file. another issue that seems to be going on is, the best way i can
explain it is--when the phone is hooked up to the pc, is it possible for whatever it is thats running to make the
phone able to receive copied files, go to sleep? because another error message i get when trying to copy is
it sits there for awhile, then eventually says "device not responding, disconnected" and on the phone itself its
on the main home screen like i wasn't doing nothing.
ive rebooted the phone several times, same results--nothing wil copy to the phone....
sooo, what am i missing?
update--- since that post, something else now happened. the phone flashed on, saying "sd card not mounted"
when it is. it is in the right way and all that, but when i go into settings/storage...at the very bottom it says
sd card, insert sd card
lol...so what the heck is that all about? the card is definatelly in there, and astro file manager shows some
files on the card but........
Well, it could be a couple of things.
First of all, make sure you have the Samsung USB drivers installed. It could be a corrupt driver, but probably not. It won't hurt to reinstall it, anyway, just to be sure. Here's link:
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/c...nt_L710_GSIII_Samsung_USB_Driver_v1_4_6_0.exe
Make sure your phone is not locked when you're trying to transfer files. If you have a PIN or a PATTERN lock enabled and it locks, it will disable the MTP application from trasferring files.
Try reflashing the ROM as well. Maybe the MPT application got corrupted somehow?
As a last resort, you can restore your phone to stock unrooted status and see if that resolves the issue.
I had the same thing happen to me. I fixed the problem by going into device manager and clicking on to mtp and updating it..
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
I had the same thing happen to my SdCard and now it is kinda dead... before yours gets damaged, remove it and insert in a PC with a sdcard reader. Run command prompt (Start>Run>cmd and enter) and do a scan disk or check disk by entering "chkdsk /x /f driverletter:" use the drive letter assigned to the sdcard then enter, let it do it's thing.
This will fix the file system and you shouldn't more problems with the sdcard not being read. As for the MTP, do as the other member said and try updating the MTP device in in device manager or uninstall the drivers and install directly from Samsung.

Horrible performance and behavior of USB Media Sync (MTP)

I am using Windows8 (that's my first problem) to connect to my LGOG over USB and work on files from my PC.
The OG gives me 3 USB connection options:
Charge Only
Media Sync (MTP)
Camera (PTP)
I choose MTP and start working on my files, but there are many problems in Windows:
The LGOG doesn't show up as a drive; it just shows up as a device, which would make it very hard to access it from the command line.
The performance is horribly slow
If I try to view the LGOG file system from more than one Explorer window I get a lot of "Device Busy" dialogs.
When I do multiple simultaneous file copies only one file is copied at any moment. All of the other copy dialogs say "Device Busy".
"Moving" files is ridiculous! It first copies *all* files, and then *maybe* deletes the files, thus sometimes resulting in a move. I would expect it to copy and delete each file and directory one by one. And I have had several moves that just left the source files in place.
Adding a new folder or renaming an existing folder on the OG directly from Explorer *always* causes Explorer to lock up.
Does anyone else have any similar experience? This is ridiculous behavior!

Cause its connected via MTP. Unlike in case of USB flash mount, phone still controlling the flash memory.
And you still can access it from the line, just use the name of device (In my case is F180K)

Yeah, you cant copy in few threads at once, cause device checking all packets

That must be Win8 problems, cause on XP SP3 it runs good
LG Driver Install
When I got around to downloading/install the LG driver / Connection / OSP packages available from their site, I was a little thrown by the wording in the driver app, I think--either that, or the directions to it...or maybe a message showing up on the phone...anyway, I think I was right to 'read into' whatever message was 'part of the process', that basically mentioned something about the device connecting, then reconnecting, during the driver install process, and that 'this was normal'.
I'd seen enough of that with Windows Bluetooth connectivity and control that I felt this basically meant just to sit there and wait 'til it stopped, no matter how redundant it appeared...and it really did an amazing amount of this, before finally stopping, showing up in my Windows Explorer menu, and 'becoming browseable'.
After I got used to it, I also experienced some laggy behavior on the phone's part, but one thing I got used to doing is tapping the message on the phone itself to tell it to 'skip' the driver install each and every time I reconnect it, whether it be to charge, or data, or 'PC software', or whatever.
Once I got tired of some of the 'regular' sluggish behavior of my Windows 7 'finding' the thing, I simply remembered I'd recently begun trying out QtADB awhile back on my Aria, and tried it....results were exactly what it'd done before--full browsing of the phone (I rooted it soon after), full 'Windows' copy-and-paste, delete, etc., file management (from my PC desktop, anyway)...otherwise, I use ES File Manager in the phone.
The attachment is a screenshot I took of the QtADB interface, browsing my PC and phone simultaneously. Copying, moving, deleting everything couldn't be easier than with QtADB, for me, anyway.

[Q] Using LG G3 on Mac

When I connect my G3 to a windows PC, it gives me the option of allowing the internal storage and sd-card folders to automatically open when I connect. I can't find my phone at all on the new Mac Pro I purchased. I have already installed the drivers but still cannot find the phone listed anywhere or find the folders on the phone. Any help would be appreciated.

You need to install "Android File Transfer"
https://www.android.com/filetransfer/
^ Yep. Android File Transfer is the way to go.
**However, I've discovered that I have to make sure the screen on my G3 is turned on before plugging the phone in and allowing Android File Transfer to automatically open. If I plug the phone in with the screen off, Android File Transfer tries to open but then freezes the entire computer until I hard-power it down.
It's a very strange issue that I never experienced with any of my Nexus devices but I always run into with the G3, for some reason. I don't imagine it's a widespread issue. Likely something corrupt in my computer's OS or my phone's OS. I've been too lazy to look more into it now that I've discovered a workaround.

Yes I had the same issue. Thought there was no way around it so I kept on transferring stuff via sdcard. Thanks a lot!

Datatrasfer speed horrible

Hi mates,
I have big issues with data transfer with my device. I wanted to do a backup of my files (Whatsapp and several folders). My System is Windows 10. When I connect my phone to my PC and choose "Data Transfer" on it I see my Pixel at the Explorer on my PC. Now when I try to drag and drop a folder to my PC it calculates the duration but nothing happens and then my Explorer crashes. Does anyone have the Same Issue? Sadly I cant remove the SD Card because there isn't one. How do you drag and drop big folders? Dragging single files works, but i cant drag 5000+ files at their own.

Hello,
Maybe a Windows driver problem?
Did it happen suddenly or it has always been this way?
Did you try on another computer?
Another USB cord?
Tried another phone to see if it transfers fine to the same computer?
Good luck...
Thanks for your advices.

Hello, not at all...
File transfert is super fast. From Windows 10 to Pixel and from Pixel to Windows 10.
Can you try to uninstall the Pixel driver from device manager, also uninstall the device completely when plugged in... Then unplug and plug it back. Select transfert on the Pixel and let it update the driver.
Also, are you completely stock or is your bootloader unlocked? If unlocked, try booting TWRP.img and try transferring from here.
Good luck...
Same here. i actually made a thread about it a while back, cant find it though.
Speeds literally crawl to 256kbps some times!
Happens on my gaming machine, and my linux pc, on all ports, with both my cables. with the same setup i can get around 30-40mbps with my nexus 5x and 6.
i notice it happen more often transferring from pc to phone, but it happens consistently both ways. Ive tried with adb debugging, without adb, ptp and mtp, and all my drivers are synced up with google so they are the latest. i ended up setting wireless transfer up.
Super fast for me after 7.1.2
i agree MTP blows but after the update I moved 1.25gb of music in less than a minute using USB 3 connection.

Pixel XL is busy

I noticed yesterday that using the inbuilt file explorer as well as amaze file explorer that i couldnt cut and paste anything between folders. SO i thought id plug it into the laptop and move files that way but although i can move files from phone to pc and back again i cant move them within the phones system.
When attempting to do so the laptop comes up with "pixel xl is busy"
Ive tried different cables, turning usb debugging on and off, different usb connection options and have even reset the phone to factory but nothing works.
Anyone else had this issue? Ive never had a phone before do this, normally its a simple process to move files around.
Make sure you are using a USB C to USB A cable, have the cable plugged into the back of the computer, restart the PC before trying as well. Also make sure to select the option to transfer files after you connect the phone, otherwise it's only charging it. Have you tried a different computer? Good luck. On a side note, do you have root, if so I highly recommend "Root Explorer" it's been my go to file manager for many years.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using XDA Labs
This happens to me when I try to move files from within the same parent folder. Not sure if it's the same exact thing you are seeing, but I get the same message.
When you get the 'busy' warning, try saving the files to a diff parent folder and see if that stops the 'busy ' warning.
I was using the right cables, I said in the op that I had even tried different ones. It was something to do with the phone, the issue with the computer not working was a side effect of that. Even using the phones file manager it wouldn't give the option to be able to move files around, nothing to do with a computer. I did say that in the op.
However it just started working again earlier and now I have the option to move files between folders on the phone again. No idea what stopped it before. Was almost like it really was busy doing something and then stopped.
