I am using Windows8 (that's my first problem) to connect to my LGOG over USB and work on files from my PC.
The OG gives me 3 USB connection options:
Charge Only
Media Sync (MTP)
Camera (PTP)
I choose MTP and start working on my files, but there are many problems in Windows:
The LGOG doesn't show up as a drive; it just shows up as a device, which would make it very hard to access it from the command line.
The performance is horribly slow
If I try to view the LGOG file system from more than one Explorer window I get a lot of "Device Busy" dialogs.
When I do multiple simultaneous file copies only one file is copied at any moment. All of the other copy dialogs say "Device Busy".
"Moving" files is ridiculous! It first copies *all* files, and then *maybe* deletes the files, thus sometimes resulting in a move. I would expect it to copy and delete each file and directory one by one. And I have had several moves that just left the source files in place.
Adding a new folder or renaming an existing folder on the OG directly from Explorer *always* causes Explorer to lock up.
Does anyone else have any similar experience? This is ridiculous behavior!

Cause its connected via MTP. Unlike in case of USB flash mount, phone still controlling the flash memory.
And you still can access it from the line, just use the name of device (In my case is F180K)

Yeah, you cant copy in few threads at once, cause device checking all packets

That must be Win8 problems, cause on XP SP3 it runs good
LG Driver Install
When I got around to downloading/install the LG driver / Connection / OSP packages available from their site, I was a little thrown by the wording in the driver app, I think--either that, or the directions to it...or maybe a message showing up on the phone...anyway, I think I was right to 'read into' whatever message was 'part of the process', that basically mentioned something about the device connecting, then reconnecting, during the driver install process, and that 'this was normal'.
I'd seen enough of that with Windows Bluetooth connectivity and control that I felt this basically meant just to sit there and wait 'til it stopped, no matter how redundant it appeared...and it really did an amazing amount of this, before finally stopping, showing up in my Windows Explorer menu, and 'becoming browseable'.
After I got used to it, I also experienced some laggy behavior on the phone's part, but one thing I got used to doing is tapping the message on the phone itself to tell it to 'skip' the driver install each and every time I reconnect it, whether it be to charge, or data, or 'PC software', or whatever.
Once I got tired of some of the 'regular' sluggish behavior of my Windows 7 'finding' the thing, I simply remembered I'd recently begun trying out QtADB awhile back on my Aria, and tried it....results were exactly what it'd done before--full browsing of the phone (I rooted it soon after), full 'Windows' copy-and-paste, delete, etc., file management (from my PC desktop, anyway)...otherwise, I use ES File Manager in the phone.
The attachment is a screenshot I took of the QtADB interface, browsing my PC and phone simultaneously. Copying, moving, deleting everything couldn't be easier than with QtADB, for me, anyway.

For some reason, MPT suck for me becasue it wont always transfer files between phone and PC.
For example, i select all images i want on my PC and copy them just to see that they aren't all copied. Same goes for APK.
Windows Explorer also can't see some of the thumbnails on camera folder and reports them corrupt but they look and open just fine on phone.
Anyone else has these issues and possible solution?
I don't accept managing media files via adb comments or anything similar.
THanks
does MTP transfer any files at all? or will it only transfer some?
MTP can be finicky sometimes....issues i've had before preventing me from transferring properly include a slightly dirty microUSB port on the phone, where wiggling the connection loses the MTP connection while transferring; drivers not installed correctly; sometimes just rebooting both phone and PC does the trick.
If it fails while transferring a large batch of files, try moving them in small groups, like 20 at a time and see if they all make it then.
PC or MAC? (or linux?)
yeah, it transfers the files but not all of them from one directory for some reason. Sometimes ot didn't trasnfered batches of 2-3 files at the same time which is insane.
Then about an hour ago i reead on some forum that guy recommends backing up files with ADB and deleting problematic directory and than copying files back to it.
I just did that and it works as it supposed to.
Transfers all filess to/from device.
What a strange issue.
GSM GNex/Windiws7 x64
I can confirm this issue. I have it from time to time as well and it seems rebooting my phone does the trick. Sometimes, I just cannot send my titaniumbackup folder from my pc to the phone, where I would get an error saying it cannot be sent or it hasn't been sent.
I'd like to know what's causing this. Is mtp not reliable?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
MTP on the Galaxy Nexus/ICS is controlled by the MediaStore, and this can cause trouble.
General fix for this should be similar to what I outlined here.
Thanks for the tip man, i formatted my internal storage and recreated all folders again and it works as intended now.
I did this before you posted this solution.
I'll try it if i ever get this issue again (hopefully not)
Anyone seen this before? I plugged the N7 into my Win7 computer and when I go to Windows explorer it does not show all of the folders in the sdcard partition. The main problem was I wanted to copy some TB backups over from my GNex to get saved games and such moved over. There was an empty folder named TitaniumBackup on the N7, in windows explorer it shows up as a blank document icon, but when I attempt to go ahead and copy my system knew it was a folder but it couldn't write to/overwrite it.
My GNex does not have this kind of problem, all the folders in the sdcard partition show properly. I tried a reboot of my system as I've seen weirdness before with the MTP protocol and windows not updating its display (like it's caching what it's reading) and that would fix it, but not this time so I don't think that's the issue. I'm wondering if this might be a "fix permissions" kind of issue or something? The permissions look the same as my GNex though looking in Root Explorer.

Well, I'd start with making sure you have the drivers.
http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html I could see and write to mine on linux and win 7; of course, only used the drivers on win 7.
Have you tried this SDrescan? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bero.sdrescan&hl=en
Any problems I've had of files/folders not showing up on both my GN/N7 have been fixed by running that first.
Ok guys looks like the problem is fixed. I think part of the problem was my faulty not updating or gps locking first device. The replacement looked like it was going to do the same thing, but now that it's rooted AND rebooted (and rebooted my desktop) all of the folders that should be are showing up. At this point I'm not sure if it was a fault with the first tablet, or the first tablet needed to be rebooted (pretty sure I did that a couple times though) or what.
edit: actually now I realized something weird, in Device Manger windows shows the Android Composite ADB Interface device as under the heading "Samsung Phone" (roughly the right wording) even though it's my Nexus 7 that is plugged in.
Hello,
I am unable to rename folders or copy contents of my Nexus from one folder to another and I usually end up with an error like your nexus is disconnected etc, however, Copying from PC to Nexus works fine.
Could i be due to Nokia cable ?
Or are there any settings involved ?
I know the internal memory is in used while on USB mode but is there a way to overcome it ?
I ran into the same issue. But even after disconnecting the N7 and renaming the folder on the device when I reconnected the PC still displayed the old name. It took a while before the new name showed up.

I unlocked my device and now I think i have very less of an issue
This use to happen to me a lot when ever I wanted to copy large game data files a window would always pop up saying device is disconnected or not mounted something like that this is what I did though I when and changed USB settings to mtp then I went to developers settings and clicked on the USB debugging then I went to display and brightness and turned on the screen timeout to 30 minutes and every time I copy a file I make sure my nexus 7 is with the screen on and it has been working for me without a problem...idk why though you have to have the screen on though
When I connect my G3 to a windows PC, it gives me the option of allowing the internal storage and sd-card folders to automatically open when I connect. I can't find my phone at all on the new Mac Pro I purchased. I have already installed the drivers but still cannot find the phone listed anywhere or find the folders on the phone. Any help would be appreciated.

You need to install "Android File Transfer"
https://www.android.com/filetransfer/
^ Yep. Android File Transfer is the way to go.
**However, I've discovered that I have to make sure the screen on my G3 is turned on before plugging the phone in and allowing Android File Transfer to automatically open. If I plug the phone in with the screen off, Android File Transfer tries to open but then freezes the entire computer until I hard-power it down.
It's a very strange issue that I never experienced with any of my Nexus devices but I always run into with the G3, for some reason. I don't imagine it's a widespread issue. Likely something corrupt in my computer's OS or my phone's OS. I've been too lazy to look more into it now that I've discovered a workaround.

Yes I had the same issue. Thought there was no way around it so I kept on transferring stuff via sdcard. Thanks a lot!
Hello all, I've had this phone for a little over a month now and it never lets me do anything with the files from my work PC. It was giving me the issue on my laptop at home as well, but when I plugged it into the high speed USB port it worked, I can transfer files just fine. I have all of the drivers downloaded. I can see all the files, just can't put anything on my phone or delete anything from it. It says "filename could not be deleted. You do not have permission to delete this item".

Is your work PC something you have complete control over, or does your IT department lock it down? As an administrator, I can lock down USB devices on my network to prevent file copying, moving, deletion, etc. as a security measure. Is it possible your IT department did that?

It's very possible, yes. I didn't even consider that as an option because I do have certain admin privileges on my computer. I'm able to download things and make certain changes, whereas other people cannot. They can't even update their Skype without an admin pw. It's just annoying to have to do this stuff at home because my laptop is finicky and doesn't always work.
