Is there a problem with using Softcard/Isis Wallet on a rooted phone since they changed their name to Softcard? I never tried it under the Isis Wallet name so I don't know if it worked then or not. I am unable to run Softcard now because it detects that I am rooted. I have Xposed Framework. I have tried Root Cloak and Isis Root Bypass. Neither one seems to work. Any ideas?

I have tried to side load the apk, and used root cloaker but it won't open. I have the apk from my D850 and all of the files but it refuses to work on my F460. We may need a way to show the app a fake model number that's supported to get it working. If you find a work around let me know.
Rooted Phone wont work with Softcard
I have the same problem... It worked with ISIS but not softcard... Crazy

Things you will need:
1) rooted phone
2) root explorer app (paid)
3) sqlite editor (paid - root explorer will direct you to it)
*** Now that cm9 is available I wanted to update this posting to let you know that these instructions are for stock gingerbread as well as the custom gingerbread roms. Cm9 has this option natively and you won't need to do this on cm9. Just want to save anyone from having problems with cm9. Now if your on gingerbread, go for it. ***
Now go to this directory with root explorer:
/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
(You will have an option to open it with the internal viewer or SQLite editor, choose SQLite editor)
Select secure
Now locate tether_entitlement_check_state and change the value to 0 then save and reboot.
Now you can use the built in tethering without the pop-up saying that you don't have a tethering plan.
I hope this helps you guys out.
Disclaimer: As chrisd1a1 pointed out doing this is at your own risk as far as breaking your terms of service with at&t. I do not know if at&t can detect this or what the result will be if they do. I'm just throwing this out there as another option.

Big fat thanks, dude!
Yeah it does work great. But I'm not sure if at&t can see it being used. I've used it on and off for about a month and had no problems with them. Glad it worked for you!

This is exactly why I'm using the ClockWorkMod app. I've already been kicked off my unlimited data plan once for "unauthorized tethering" and it was hell getting back on the plan. The loophole to do so is no longer available, so I really don't want to get kicked again.
I'll have to wait and see how it works out for others. But good job on showing us the way to enable it. Thumbs up!
If I'm not mistaken, the tether_entitlement_check_state will not be available in the database until first attempt enabling tethering.
interesting thread. moved to DEV as this could be handy for future development.
the only disclaimer I'll put in is that it's at your own risk if you break any terms of service from your carrier....

I've done this with my phone I only use the tethering maybe once a month and only for a short time. I do not know the effects of this with at&t but I figured I'd throw it out there as another option. Also I'm updating the op to state that.

I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't be able to detect it. It works the same way as it does on any other Android device.

I got it working on my one x in the UK using the following patched APK-
http://www.modaco.com/topic/354635-region-device-root-patched-google-wallet-apk-11-r63-v12/
INstructions are also in the link but just copy the file to system/app directory and change perms. Reboot and you are in.
C
Aye got it working, well showing as having $10 on. Not tried to use it yet, does it ask you for a pin when you tap one of the readers? Or does it just work like the contactless credit cards? I hope it doesn't as for a pin as that would get annoying!!
I haven't tried to use it either, if it is like my contactless cards it will ask for a pin the first time you use it and from then on only ask for a pin if it is over a certain amount (15 I think).
I hope it's the same with this too....
what program should i use to open apk file
I used root explorer to copy it to system/app folder and then change the perms to rw-r-r and then reboot. It will be there when it has rebooted
i just put mine on dropbox and install it from there
So how to I get the free $10 and how can I top up with my Barclays debit card

You can't top up without a card that supports AVS in the US (IE, a US bank account/card)
How can i change permission? I assume its for the the /app folder ?
I moved it into the system/app folder with ES File explorer, BUT BEFORE DOING THAT.
Went into settings and selected Root Explorer at the bottom of the list.
You can't install it as it fails, you just need to move it into that folder and it works
So anyone in the UK can't use this to pay for goods? Is this correct

Anyone in the US on AT&T try using their One X to buy something?
In the modaco thread a guy said that AT&T was blocking the data to wallet servers because he was unable to check his balance through the app on mobile data but worked on WiFi.
Well mine seems to be working fine on mobile data. Can check balance just fine but I haven't gone out to try using yet.

Interesting that you can get balance information on mobile and I can't. I actually can if I use VPN. What data plan are you on? I'm on a unlimited iPhone account's sim.
I haven't tested the phone for an actual purchase yet, but there's no reason to think it won't work; you don't need a data connection on the phone to use NFC payments; I've used the Nexus S without a SIM card to buy things at 7-11 without problem.
Be sure to post back if it works for you; I'll do the same if I get out and about today.

I am actually able to get my balance on mobile data, no errors. I'm on the "DataPro 3GB for Smartphone 4G LTE" plan. Your data plan could be the reason why.
Good point about NFC not needing data.
Also, I had a Galaxy Nexus with Verizon the last time I used Google Wallet and had over $25 left on the Google Prepaid Card, but on the One X it only shows the *new* free $10.00 in my balance as if it was a new card. It must not be the same card for some reason...
EDIT: According to this I guess I have to call and transfer the balance from the old card to the new card.

I have seen many posts regarding the tethering and hotspot on T-mobile, as it is only available on the data plans that are not unlimited. T-mobile blocks most tethering and hotspot apps but there are some ways to get around this. Most ways to avoid purchasing the tethering plan require root. However, this one does not. After a lot of searching I finally found a solution. The only con of this is that it does not support hotspot, only USB tethering. It is compatible with Mac OS, Windows OS, and Ubuntu OS. I am still searching for an update that will allow this to work with Chrome OS as I just purchased a Google Chromebook. This is a great feature while you are on the go, or do not have an internet connection at home.
The first step to the process is to download the Android app from the google Play Store. It is called ClockworkMod Tether. The app is free for 14 days. Once the 14 days is up, you will be able to purchase the full edition for $4.99. The upgrade is in app only, so you must download the free version first. Why wouldn't you anyways?
Once you have downloaded the app, as you will notice when you open it, you will need to download the app for your computer. It will ask you to open the app on your computer to get started. There is an app as well as a driver that is needed for this. In order to get the driver, you will need to visit clockworkmod.com. You can visit the site from your computer or your phone, which is convenient if you don't already have internet access. You will then need to click tether drivers at the top of the screen. It will take you to a list of makes of phones such as Motorola, Samsung, etc. Obviously, being the Samsung Galaxy s III, you are going to click the samsung drivers link. After it is downloaded, if you are using your computer, simply open the file and install it. If you have downloaded it to your SIII, you will need to connect your phone to your computer, find the file in the folder clockworkmod, and install it.
After everything is installed, you can open the app in your phone and turn on the tethering. After you have done this, open the program (which should also be installes from the clockworkmod folder) and click start. It will configure and it should say connected after a few seconds. Then, open your browser and you should be online!
I just discovered this and so far it is working GREAT! I got booted off once, not really sure what happened. But I turned off the tethering through the app first, then through the computer and restarted it all again and all is good. Hope this helps everyone looking for the answer! I will post again when I discover a way to use hotspot for free with no root.

I was wondering if I were to delete the att apps (att hotspots, att nav. etc.) Would that cause any unwanted side effects?
Sent from my LT28at using XDA Free mobile app
Dont know what you mean by delete? If you mean disable? No, it will not hurt to disable those apps. Those are on just about every att phone. There are lists every where showing you what apps you can disable. Just goole em and you will see. If your rooted. There is a very good app called systemCleanup that will tell what apps are safe. Either way you choose. Both are good options. Search or systemCleanup.

Just disable those apps if You are not sure. Mostly these apps will show "problems if uninstalled" as they are installed via Your update directly, but don't cause any issues if uninstalled. You can always experiment by taking backup of the app, then uninstall it. If nothing is wrong, then fine, else You can restore them.
Disabling them caused no issues but what I am really trying to do I get control of my hotspot/tethering without the need of an app like foxfi when I try to turn them on, please contact att, but since my phone is unlocked and I am not with att there is nothing they can do.
Sent from my LT28at using XDA Free mobile app
Yes, if your trying to use the hotspot in settings thats going to happen. That is tied in directly to your phone. Which is a att phone. You are essentially running a att rom. The only other way that I would know of. Would be to use a different carrier rom. But then you open up to other issues that would not be good. Just stick with foxfi. Be happy it works. For alot of us. It no longer does.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T217A using XDA Free mobile app
I figured that was the case, anyway, I really like the foxfi app because it hides your tethering usage from your carrier

I had a galaxy s3 a while ago also rooted where i had used pdanet+ to create a hotspot without paying an arm and a leg to my carrier for the option. It had worked. Now that i have the g4 i want to do the same. when i try to use any app that says root wifi hotspot or whatever, they dont actually ask for root access nor do they work as intended. I was wondering if there was any other apps out there (for free this is the point) that i could use... Or if theres a method im neglecting to use to get this working.
