I'm sitting here with my Verizon HTC One on the "Software update ready to install" screen. I'm not sure if I should select "Install Later" or "Install Now". I guess my main question is, has there been any indication that someone will come up with a workable root solution for the M7 with the OTA KitKat update? I know there isn't one for Jellybean.
Sorry if this is a n00b question. If it has been asked and answered before, please point me in the direction of the thread. Thanks!
Edit: I see a couple of folks have asked about this in the Q&A forum (where I probably should have, heh). Mods, please delete.

If you are s-off dont take the OTA. you can get the firmware here and it would be like you took the OTA.

if you want root, it will cost you $25 for the license from Sunshine. I would do sunshine before taking the OTA because it might not work on the latest OTA.
if you dont care about root, just take the ota.

Ah, gotcha. I've read conflicting reports about Sunshine's success with the Verizon HTC One, so I wasn't sure if it was still a valid method. Thanks for the tip. I'll do that before the OTA update.

You should never have to pay for Rooting. Android is a better community than that. Setup bounties, but never force payment. My opinion.

Has anyone noticed HTC Clock and HTC Lockscreen updates in Google Play after the new OTA? If so, have you installed and had any issues? I'm reading the comments and some say HTC Clock update causes alarms to no longer work and HTC Lockscreen update causes reboot loop.

Just bit the bullet. Everything is working OK so far.
I was able to successfully S-off via SunShine, flash TWRP and root. Then, after making a complete backup, I accepted the OTA update. It didn't mess up any of those things.

People have been asking almost everyday for an unlock method in the Galaxy S4 forums for about 9 months now with no luck so unfortunately asking doesn't seem to get any better results
I don't know why but after I upgraded (OTA) to 4.4 my phone is now unlocked and S-Off. My contract was up a week earlier and I called regarding an unlock token but was told I needed to have a third party do it. Totally contrary to the Agreement the 4 majors had with the gov't in December over unlocking phones when contracts were up. So I'm just hanging out waiting for one of the resident masters to figure out a root.

If you're unlocked and s-off all you need to do is flash a recovery like TWRP and then flash a prerooted rom (most are pre rooted). It's the getting S-off part that many are still waiting to get figured out. You're free to flash away.

I'd be up for someone creating a general Q&A for this phone. It would have helped me quite a bit when I was just starting. I know enough to get one started but I'd feel better if I could get more experienced people contributing to it.

Ya, I think you can just flash a superuser.zip in recovery (you will need to flash a recovery first. Either TWRP or CWM...I prefer TWRP). It's been awhile, but I know it's not hard. There used to be a little tutorial in OP of the Rumrunner thread on how to gain root but I'm not sure if it's there anymore.

I didn't feel like browsing through a ton of pages on the rumrunner forum. And I'm posting this in the Q&A section as this is a question.
Has rumrunner been updated to work with the Verizon HTC One with OTA 4.4.2? I am aware that I probably should have rooted before I accepted the OTA 4.4.2 update, but if I knew that it'd be awhile before I was able to root, I would've rooted and installed a 4.4.2 stock ROM.
Thanks.

In the same vein, does anyone know if Firewater is supposed to work with the same version (4.4.2, Hboot 1.56)? I haven't had any luck, but I'm not sure if that's because of my set up or just because it's not supported.

it wont work, the temp root that firewater uses was patched int he 4.4.2 release.
for firewater to work we need an unlocked bootloader from HTC (which VZW asked nicely to remove)
Going to have to wait for another exploit to surface.

Yeah I've tried every thing and nothing works, I got my HTC One exchanged a couple of weeks ago because the one I had just shut off and fried itself, I got the new one with 4.3 not realizing that it was actually rootable and I ended up taking the 4.4.2 update since I figured it wouldnt matter, sucks I was wrong and now have to wait quite a while as well. shame that something is there but they are waiting almost 5 months to do anything with it, but what can you do?
What ticks me off the most is Verizon, every other carrier has no issues with rooting the HTC One, why does Verizon care? I'll just never get it, its our fault and we void the warranty and we know this, other carriers know this and dont care, why Verizon WHY?

you could do what I'm leaning forward to doing, just call verizon and say that you have a purple camera tint problem and its really annoying, they should send u a refurbished one free or charge. of course, you have to send your current one in but it's not like they check or anything so it's pretty much full proof. got many refurbished phones that way, but it was not to get 4.3 or any other "rootable" software.the phones actually had problems.

If you be on 98.18.94 do the OTA of the same name!
....98.30.1 do the OTA likewise.
More:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52716429&postcount=25
I was on 98.18.94 and updated to KK 182. I froze system apps and it refused to boot. Then i RSD'd to 98.30.1 and that gave me the KK 183. update. NOTHING on the phone changed. Bootloader still unlocked and everything. I believe they're pretty much identical and it doesnt matter which update you take.
I was kind in the same situation, I was on 98.18.94, but was rooted and couldn't take the OTA. Used House of Moto to go to 98.30.1 and then was able to take OTA. I still have the original KitKat OTA Blur_Version.98.18.94.XT907.Verizon.en.US.zip that I pulled before going to 98.30.1. Are you saying I should be using that version 182.46.10.xt907 instead of 183.46.10.xt907 since I originally had the 98.18.94? Any idea what the difference is between the 2 versions?

I no longer have a M. I did check the recoveries & they have different md5's.
There have been just too many borks associated with this neglect of name/build subtlety to ignore it.
Since I have the original OTA could I either down grade and apply the correct OTA or since I have an unlocked bootloader would I be able to reinstall the original without the down grade step?

Yes, I talked to our mutual friend about it a few days ago and was told the same thing. How stras1234 managed to acquire the FXZ so quickly is beyond me but truly amazing. Since the FXZ for KK was posted, I've updated my thread with instructions on how to use it. I'd just flash that and call it good. The whole 182 vs 183 nonsense is a red herring. There's no difference between the builds except the build number and signing keys. Personally if I still had a Moto phone I'd be sticking with the FXZ path regardless of what anyone says.

I dont now why..but i found bug with version 183..sometimes i got my phone cant turn on from lockscreen..and can only fix it using hard reboot (press vol up+vol down+power in the same time)..i hope with version 182 can be solved..and another question is after ota update my model number is XT905 NOT XT907 OR Razr M..dunno why
Sent from my XT907 using XDA Free mobile app
That's odd about XT905 (since neither the Electrify M, nor the Aussie Razr M got KitKat yet - they're both can be XT905 for some reason), but yes, you could try to flash again via RSD Lite for a cleaner system. It doesn't matter if it's 182 or 183 though, as it's the same version.
OT: But for the Electrify M which is XT901 an update is announced at Moto's site now.

It failed to install on 11/3 with a error code 409, but when I try to download it again by selecting "Check for new system updates" it says I have the latest update. I've rebooted a number of times and it shows up every time. From what little information I can find online, I have to reset my phone to factory then attempt to update again. Flash the custom firmware zip and restore the nandroid I posted of the update. Then wipe data for the app htcdm. Flash supersu.zip and you're done.

I'm not rooted.
Update: I decided to just to a factory reset. Thankfully it worked and I am at the latest firmware.
So I've tried letting this update run a couple times. Downloading for the third time as I write this. When it tries to install, it just reboots into TWRP recovery and does nothing. Then I restart the phone and basically start the process all over again. Any guidance on how to get this squared away?? I met one of the members here with a card who S-offed, unlocked, rooted, my phone which I'm thankful for. Just want to be stock rooted is all. Don't really do much with custom roms on this phone. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you need stock recovery to take an OTA.

Ok.. Thanks.. I'll have to check into that
Hello all,
I'll try and keep this short and sweet. I have a Verizon HTC 10. I recently used Sunshine to Unlock and S-off, and I have TWRP installed and I am rooted. Should I take the Verizon OTA that was apparently released today? (Security fix it claims, no additional bug fixes or anything.)
Will I lose my root if I do? Quite frankly it doesn't seem worth the hassle if that's the case...but I also don't want to have to keep delaying this OTA every day to get the message to go away...
Thoughts?
Thank you!

You will lose root, but it's super simple to just flash supersu zip again after you update.

Oh that's all? You're right that really isn't a big deal...I was just a little more worried something else would happen I guess lol.
About that I have a European version and was thinking of s off my phone but someone said the temp root does not in 1.90, can someone confirm it?

Ask in, or search, the sunshine thread. I seem to remember something about that, but can't confirm.

Just make sure you have the latest supersu on your storage and it won't be a problem.

Just so you know, there's a Verizon specific section for the HTC 10.
