the only issue i've had with the keyboard was the lag when typing. But I was able to resolve it by removing the numerical bar at the top of the keyboard and now it's pretty smooth.
As for lag trying to open the keyboard...haven't seen anyone with that problem.
Hmm odd it takes about 5 secs for it to open when I click text field
I've had similar issue when 2 languages installed.
I've got it randomly. A reboot brings it back to normal. Happened after the latest update for me. Sometimes I'll get whatsapp where keyboard won't open. Go back to contact list, then back to conversation and it works.
I have rebooted it works then it starts taking a while agian

I downloaded the ICS keyboard because I like to change the portrait size. Every time I restart the phone the samsung keyboard is the default. I changed this several times. Anyone else having this issue?
Can you disable the Samsung keyboard?

Same here. I'm using Swift Key and I have to re-enable it after I restart my phone as well. Thought it was just me.

The reverting back to default keyboard is a known bug. It happens specially when you restart the phone. We hope it will be resolved by the next OTA.

Just freeze the stock keyboard in titanum backup. (If your rooted)

hey everyone,
i've noticed that in some (most actually) apps, when in landscape mode and bringing up the keyboard (it happens on all keyboards ive tried: swiftkey, swiftkeyflow, kii, keymonk and samsung stock) instead of bringing up the keyboard and displaying the app you're in in whats left of the screen, the keyboard comes up with a white text input display, allowing you to see only the text you enter, without its context in the application you're in.
this can be troublesome in apps that combing typing and drawing, such as lecturenotes or any other natural handwriting note taking app you know.
has anyone found a way to overcome this issue?
try swype, my man
http://beta.swype.com/
I've tried all my writing apps and none of them do that. What app are you using? I have tried it with both the stock keyboard and the Hackers Keyboard.

getting the same effect with:
Samsung stock
swiftkey
swiftkey flow
kii
Keymonk
+ some two other keyboards I can't remember by name right now

I'm actually curious to know.if there is a way to avoid the white box appearing. It's the only reason why I prefer typing in portrait mode, I'd like to see where I'm typing.

Same here man,
why Samsung would force something like this on users is beyond me.
It renders many great apps unusable in landscape mode

Is anyone still thinking about this? I also find this quite annoying, also because it is different from app to app and also from Rom to Rom. I get the right results on most tw roms, but not on AOSP or CM10.1, where it differs from app to app. Changing dpi doesn't solve the issue.
I read that thumb keyboard has an option to suppress fullscreen windows, but I use swype.
I use the Note I, but this is not device-specific. No work-around?
Subscribed. Always wanted to know whether or not it can be fixed.

Actually on most aosp roms there's an option to disable full screen keyboard on landscape. However, I have never heard of this option on touchwiz roms, people keep suggesting keyboards but non of them work. I believe this requires modification in the root directory.

Bushako, thank you so much! I found it in the AOSP options and it worked greatly. Strange I never saw it.

Same here. Stock Unrooted after 4.1.2 OTA. No access to Google Now Menu. Flashes briefly then disappears. Tried to clear cache but won't clear. Tried to uninstall updates in application manger but hangs on uninstalling screen.
Click on the bar at the top to bring up your keyboard and now the menu will stay open.

Menu won't stay open whether keyboard present or not. Using Swiftkey.
Finally got the Google Search update to uninstall and the menu opens normally when not updated. Hmmm.

I have the same issue. Re-updated and menu flashes and disappears.
Add me to this list also. It's a bug in the new search update. It really sucks. Thankfully I don't need to use the menu/setting that much.
If I do I can get into it via settings.
Do a dummy search first, then try it....

Yep, this worked for me too. Now if I can just figure out why my battery life took a hit with the new update. Life will be good again.

Quick update. Still happening.
Workaround (based on previous posts and trials)
Open Google Now.
Type a space (or any placeholder text in the search bar.
Close the keyboard and retry the menu key. The menu should now pop up and float there.
The search bar seems to have to have something in it for menu to not instantly close again. I've put as little as just that space and it works.
Wonder how Google missed that?

I would hypothesize that this is a Samsung Twiz ROM issue, rather than a Google oops...Trying it on my PACMan 20.1 install I fail to get the bug.
Anyone in this thread so far not using a Sammy TWiz ROM?
Uninstall and re-install Google Search. Clear Google Talk data in App management. Reboot.
It'll work after that.
It may be me but, does anyone else have a tough time using the keyboard on this phone. It seems to me it doesnt respond well to the "key press" and I dont have fat fingers.
I just have issues with the autocorrect. Switched to stock Android keyboard and no more issues

I can't seem to get the handwriting to work. I take out the pen and switch to that when trying to write a response to a text message and it does nothing. I write the word and it doesn't translate it to text. It just sits there.
The handwriting aspect is bugged you need to uninstall the keyboard and reinstall it reboot device then it should work.

Is anyone else having issues with the native LG keyboard being glitchy? There are times it just quits being responsive for me. I had to switch to Swype for now. Let me know of your guys' experiences.

I think it was a fluke for me as it only happened once..but i was trying to fill out an online form and suddenly the kb freaked and touches registered everywhere. An L would type an E, etc. I rebooted and it resolved but I went ahead and d/l google kb to try it for a while.

Yeah. It'll just stop working. I'll back out of what I was typing and try again. Same thing. Since I starting using Swype, no problems. It's just the native keyboard that's the issue.

ya i used to be a huge fan of the keyboard when i first got the phone...but it seem the more they update, the more it get screw up went back to google keyboard...
After the last two updates, my keyboard has spiralled out of control.
Making it almost impossible to use.
It always picks the second word to what you type. And I usually hit each letter versus swyping.
And anytime I try to put a period after a word, it autocorrects to an acronym...
I love this keyboard because of appearance and the emoji shortcut. But all this glitchiness is getting so bad.
Has anyone else had the same issues? I'm wondering if it's my phone

It definitely is an issue with keyboard. No issue with google or swift keyboards
Switxhing to ART made the keyboard a lot snappier for me.
