[Q] Trying to install firmware, but Odin failed and now phone won't boot - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I was trying to install the latest firmware on my son's M919 via Odin 3.09. I downloaded M919UVUFNB4_M919TMBFNB4_TMB from SAMMOBILE and went to Odin to install. The installation failed. The error said Fail (auth). Now when the phone boots, it goes to a screen that says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again." I downloaded both versions of Kies, but neither one can see the phone in Firmware emergency recovery. I can still get into Download mode, but have been unable to successfully flash any stock firmware. I notice on the screen that the phone says SYSTEM STATUS: Official and WRITE PROTECTION: Enable. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It is possible that the file you downloaded from sammobile did not finish correctly and is corrupt. Try redownloading it and try it again. I dont think it will make any difference but I usually will use odin 3.07.

I have downloaded files a couple of times. Even downloaded the file from the post in the General section of this forum. Used 3.09 and 3.07, all with the same results. I am using Windows 8 if that makes a difference. May try it on Windows 7 when I get a chance.

I used to have that a problem with my desktop that has windows 8. Recently I have been using my windows 7 laptop. There are different drivers needed when you are in download mode, plug it in when the phone is in download mode and let it search and find the drivers. You might even want to reinstall the samsung mobile drivers. I would also recommend to use the usb cable that came with the device. Best of luck.

It finds the drivers. I have done this on my Note 8.0 without issue. Not sure why this phone is giving me such grief.

The phone does show up in Odin in the com box correct? Even so I would still just do it on a Windows 7 computer.

Uninstall kies and try again. You can also try different USB ports

Had you previously been using the modem/baseband from a firmware that you weren't officially on? i.e. NB4 modem/baseband on either MDL or MK2 bootloader? If so, revert just the modem to your bootloader version and then attempt the Odin flash again.

Honestly, I am not sure which version he was on. I had assumed the latest or at least 4.3. How would I install just the modem?

Yes, Odin sees that there is a device on the COM port.

Success. Windows 7, 4.4.2, and Odin 1.85. Flashed without issue. Thanks everyone.

[Q] T-Mobile S4 & Odin

Well, I sure hope I didn't jack up my new phone for good.
I was using odin to get OUDHS CWM-Based Recovery 1.0.3.3 working.
I booted the phone into download mode, then connected and waited for my phone to be recognized. I selected the correct tar and hit start.
It failed on the first write section, and I couldn't get it to continue so i turned my phone off and tried to boot into download mode again. Now no matter what I do it gives me the "firmware upgrade failed" message and tells me to connect to Kies, but Kies will not detect my device.
Any ideas?
For reference I was following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2260031 to the letter.
I will continue to work on this for awhile.

If you can still get into download mode try using odin to flash a complete firmware made for your specific device and obtained from sammobile.com

If I were you I would forget about KIES and uninstall it along with any other samsung applications and drivers
you have on your computer, then reboot your computer and download only the Samsung USB Drivers.
Once you have the latest samsung usb drivers install it and restart your computer.
That way you will have a clean start, and if the screen of your phone displays
anything at all, especially if it displays something about kies then that proves that
your phone will go into download mode if it's done properly.
Press the volume down, home and the power button at the same time until the phone vibrates
and then let go of the power button first before letting go of the other two buttons.
Before you do any of this, you need to download the stock Samsung Jellybean
v4.2.2 M919 MDL Touchwiz Odin flash firmware.
Here is the link to download it: http://k0nane.info/rom/M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_TMB.zip
Here is the latest Samsung USB Drivers download: http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/c...ng_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.5.14.0.exe
Well did finally get Kies to pick up the phone but it just gets stuck on connecting. How is anyone supposed to do a firmware recovery if the phone cant be connected to?
I will try what you said and uninstall and only install the usb drivers.
And to answer your question I can't get into download mode, it just skips right to the Firmware upgrade error.
Although in the top left of the screen I see this:
ODIN MODE
Product Name: SGH-M919
Current Binary: Custom
System Status: Official
CSB-OEM_CONFIG_LSB: 0x30
Write Protection: Enable
Does that mean anything?

Then do it the old fashion way, pull the battery out of the phone
and while pressing the volume down/home/power buttons put
the battery back in and see if that gets it into download mode.
(I hope your phone is a Tmobile M919 and not the international version or a variant like the M919V).

Yes, it's is the T-Mobile version. It has the case branding and everything. I got it straight from them.
Ah, that did it! I'm now back in download mode. Thank you.
I'm downloading the stock firmware, it will take about an hour. Should I attempt to flash the OUDHS recovery again, or wait and just flash the stock JB firmware?

You are downloading the STOCK JB firmware now....
After your phone is up and running reboot into download mode and you will need to Odin flash the OUDHS recovery TAR file: http://d-h.st/jTk
Once that's flashed you will need to go into OUDHS recovery and flash this superuser.zip file: http://www.shabbypenguin.com/Android/Scripts/Nexus-Files/Root/Superuser-1.0.1.1.zip
After flashing the superuser.zip reboot the phone.
Just to play it safe, after you reboot the phone reboot it again in recovery and flash this:http://batakang.com/ftp/SGH-M919/ROOT_M919UVUAMDL.zip
This will setup your kernel to be 100% un-restricted so there will be no chance that you will loose root access.
NOTE: If you want to keep your phone STOCK then after odin flashing the JB stock firmware don't do anything else.
Good luck!
Thank you for the help. One question though, Do i continue to use the PDA button on odin for the JB flash like I was instructed for the other thing or do I use the phone button?
FWIW home button is not needed on the S4 to enter recovery or download mode. I love it Just hold down one of the volume buttons as its booting and voila

[Q] Need help urgently

Hey folks,
I have a note 2 gt-n7100 running ditto note 3 rom. I decided to go back to official rom so I plugged into kies and tried to do the firmware change via the tools and entering my serial number etc. The update failed for whatever reason and it said to try emergency recovery. I tried that and still failed. The worst thing now is that my phone does not boot up or go into recovery. Only works in odin mode. I had a rom which I tried to flash via odin but even odin keeps failing. I need help badly.
Thanks

[SOLVED] Failed to Root SM-N900T with factory 4.4.2 Kit Kat Firmware

Last week I purchased a new T-Mobile Note 3 with 4.4.2 installed from factory. The Build Number is KOT49H.N900TUVUCNB4, I tried to root the phone using all the available CF-Root methods that I was able to find, I tried with the CF-Auto-Root-hltetmo-hltetmo-smn900t.tar.md5 file and with the CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.tar.md5 file, I used all the possible versions of Odin 3.09, 3.07, 1.83 and 1.85. I will start the flashing process (I've done this more than 100 times) but it will stop after 3 bars (checked the attached file). Then I tried Odin the full Stock T-Mobile ROM N900TUVUCNB4_N900TTMBCNB4_N900TUVUCNB4_HOME.tar.md5 file same situation, it will flash Boot.img and Recovery.img but when it will start flashing system.img.ext4 it will fail with Write error.
If I try to start the phone I will get the following message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again", I tried with Kies but the device was never recognized.
Right now I am stuck with this message, what can I do?, thanks

Please help !!!! , I am stuck on the boot screen "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again", I cannot do anything else, I've tried almost all the suggestion on all forums nothing work, thanks
You have to install the 4.4.2 rom again via Odin to get it back working
Fixed the problem, I was running Odin from a Windows XP Virtual Machine in VMware Fusion within Mac OS X, that was the problem, I just did it from a standard PC running Windows 7 and everything is fine now

You can use Heimdall for OSX.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265
ok then forget root here is the link to twrp-custom recovery for our device flash this with odin then boot into recovery like normal volume up + home +power you will see the twrp menus now since ur phone is not booting if i read correctly then just wipe everything except internal storage and external sd once everything has been wiped you can flash the rom of your choice. if you ever want to go back to stock just reflash the nb4 image with odin but after the flash go into stock recovery and do a factory reset. note though im sure u know since dealing with root this will trip knox to 0x1
if i have helped please hit the thanks button. if you have any other issues let me know and i will do what i can to help

Help! No wifi after n5110 kitkat update

Help! I just updated the firmware on my GT-N5110 to US Cellular South 4.4.2 (from 4.2.2), both downloaded from SamMobile. I used Mobile Olin to do the update, and everything seems to work, except I can't turn on the WIFI - the software switch simply won't turn on. I even wiped the data and restored to factory settings, but still no WIFI.
I had made a backup copy of my 4.2.2 install which is on my ext storage, but I lost root, and my ROM manager install, so I'm unable to restore the backup, and booting to stock system recovery doesn't recognize my backup.
I installed Kies on my Win7 laptop, but the laptop doesn't seem to recognize the tablet when I plug it in, so it doesn't seem that I can use Olin 3.07 to re-flash 4.2.2.
So, I need some help,
Thanks in advance!

Mobile odin doesn't flash the new bootloader which is required for wifi to work on the new 4.4.2 roms. You can either flash the new bootloader through Odin for PC, or flash Civato's custom kernel which fixed wifi without needing to flash the new bootloader. Check Civ's thread in the dev section.

Sounds like he can't flash because no root or custom recovery. Can't Odin because no root and PC won't recognize the device.
I would wonder why the PC can't recognize the device and work on fixing that. Did you try uninstalling/re-installing the PC driver, different USB ports, different PC, etc? You don't need Kies installed for Odin to work as long as the PC has proper drivers and recognizes the device.
Thanks for the replies and feedback. Is there a thread that explains how to install Windows drivers without using Kies?

Strange, root shouldn't be required to flash with PC Odin. Like you said, he just needs the correct windows USB drivers and to put the device in download mode.

Just Google "Samsung USB drivers" and you should be able to find the file. Once you do, download it and install on your PC. Then put your device in download mode, start Odin, connect the device to your PC via USB and try to flash again.
I have the same problem, after 4.4.2 OTA update, wifi is not working.

NOTE II SERIES OF ISSUES - stuck on bootloader/unrooted/stock firmware - odin fails

hi,
my galaxy note 2, running on original firmware is stuck on bootloader. When I tried to put in recovery it shows :- Failed to mount system no such directory issue. I tried to use ODIN to root it but usb debugging was never activated. I'm stuck. What to do? Please help.
You do not need USB debugging to root via Odin.
I suggest starting over by first flashing a stock rom from sammobile.com using Odin.

Are you talking about recovery or 'download mode'. You need to be in download mode not recovery to use Odin from Windows.
Make sure you have the right version of Odin.
Just make sure you have the samsung phone drivers installed AND if you can avoid it don't install KEIS if you're going to use ODIN.
This causes problems.
It should come up in device manager.
Run Odin as administrator.
It shouldn't matter if USB debugging is activated or not.
If you're going to flash fresh firmware.
Just make sure if you're upgrading to stock (TW) Android 4.3 or above you don't downgrade back to 4.2.2
Make sure you read instructions on how to flash with ODIN.
Choose the firmware file in the wrong tab and you have a bricked device.
After flashing new firmware (if that's what needs doing) then flash custom recovery. Don't forget to wipe the right areas.
Wow I haven't done this for like 2 years it seems and I'm operating off memory.
Theres some nuggets of advice.
Good Luck

hey, this error!
Since it is stopping after the sboot file, it could be that the rom has an older bootloader than the bootloader on the phone or the rom is not made for the phone.
You're using the original Samsung USB cable to flash?
