[Q] Update Kernel only from newer oficial firmwares - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
as my D855 is on V10h-EUR (just released yesterday...), while I can see there are newer one (eg. V10j) I'm thinking (due to the eg. hissing sound issue, buzzing sound during calls while on GSM mode, lags.. I'm really tired of waiting, phone returned from warranty repair with confirmed repair while the issue is still present etc.) to take out only Kernel and flash it on current ROM. While our bootloaders are still locked out, is there some way how to take out Kernel only from newer versions and "update" it ? Or it's not possible at all due to the locked bootloader. Eg. even with tethered TWRP or using ? Normally LG Suite should debrick potential Kernel issue, or ?
I do not want to flash completely another ROM due to the potential impact on warranty (eg. not sure if the region "code" will come back after FW reflash) and re-installing everything from scratch.
Thanks for your ideas.

Btw, can someone provide me from latest "i" firmware all files :
/system/etc/mixer_paths*.xml (all 3 files)
/system/etc/media_profiles.xml
/system/etc/media_codecs.xml
...just wondering if this could fix hissing sound, or if LG has updated there something. I guess there was a temporary fix for LG G2 using mixer_paths.xml, but it's a guess only....

Just do a normal flash with latest v10j global version, it's almost the same as an ota update! No root needed, no warranty issues!

You probably mean flashing D85510I_00.kdz using LG Flash? Settings will be lost completely, right ? Thank you.

Doesn't matter, installed latest version as stated above using LG Flash 2014 (full wipe) and still getting the same issues....so either it's not SW issue or phone is broken and will not get fixed.

V10i kill the Batt. in my opinion if Yu will install a kdz u shoyld take the 10j it's So Good ..

[Q] lg p936 android 2.3.6 tele2 reboot

My phone is rebooting when I use the internet operator (tim) or wi-fi, it happens two or three times after each battery charge normally. Did you guys can guide me? I live in Brazil and bought the unit overseas and got interested in it have 4g lte network, hd screen. I tried to update the LG support Portugal but continued with the same problems, to access the internet or youtube or GPS (google maps) that is most often occurs when rebooting. Is it hardware problem, or is the firmware. I even saw some upgraded their lg optimus lte 93x for official ics rom, but were having problems similar to mine, but have not seen anyone with such a problem reporting system gingerbread. Please help me, this unit is not for sale in Brazil.
Are you completely stock for example no root no custom recovery like cwm or twrp? If you are it could point to a hardware problem. The latest gingerbread p936 ROM is the v10i released in January this year. It is available as a kdz file on the internet (just Google it). Use the kdz installer available under general on xda. Try installing it to see if your problems go away. Good luck.

Thanks for the help Swetnes, v10i kdz installed and my phone is working fine :good:.
I have a question and I am noob, if you can help me again. The thing is, I was wanting to put the official rom v20c lg P936 for it to work with ics now the problem is, if you later want to change it again to gingerbread, ics if not work well, I can do using official v10i kdz, using the same tools I used for this update, is back from ics for gingerbread only flashing kdz files?

You can install any kdz file with that installer you used to flash v10i. If you want to install cwm so you can install many custom ROMs go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044645
I hope this helps. Also make sure you are using the same kdz installer instead of the one in the guide if you have win 7/8.

P936 continues with random restart problems
Good morning, gentlemen.
My phone after install v10d kdz files, v10i, v20c (O2D and vodafone) continued to have random reboots, even worse when installed ics (v20c kdz) as well as random restart, still had to take the battery out and replace the handset to reconnect . Installed AnTuTu benchmark and checked on the issue of ram that my unit marked 768 mb of ram. I saw in the specs that the device actually has 1gb of ram in lg site. Is this is the cause of reboots? Took for technical assistance in Paraguay (where I bought the phone) has no technical assistance from lg and sale of the device in Brazil, I'm worried because technicians end up not take us too seriously. I explained to them that when used with frequency or internet connected the gps for some time and they will evaluate whether problem really. You have to post photo or check the device you in AnTuTu benchmark or other benchmark to see if my question makes sense?
thanks.

[Q] LG G3. First steps. Shutdown bug.

Hi all,
it has been a pair of weeks with this phone and i'm experiencing the shutdown bug described at:
LG G3 D855 shutsdown on its own
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/lg-g3-d855-shutsdown-t2803292
about 4 times during this time. Also, when unlocking the device, the display doesn't light up when it's knocked but it does when power button is pressed, (roughly 30 percent of tries).
It's not rooted and I haven't flashed any mods/scripts/themes: it's full stock.
I decided to buy it when I knew the bootloader was finally unlocked. I plan to root it and possibly flash other roms sometime but my main worries now are:
- be sure the hardware is working properly before it's too late to return it.
- keep the bootloader stack unlockable.
- don't void the warranty.
Is this a software only problem? Can I fix it with an update?
After reading quite a few posts on the referred thread, there's no a clear answer to that question in my opinion. It's said that it's a hw problem (no sources by the way):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57346459&postcount=1343
but it's also said that it's fixed with an update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54530196&postcount=679
(google translate: http://translate.google.com/transla...ehebt-plotzliche-abschaltung-des-smartphones/)
Is there any hardware revision of this device? Is there any way to get the manufacture date (or week)?
Is there any new-device-test procedure? Possibly by using the LG hidden menu? Or by testing each device capability? (is it that simple?)
Thanks for your help,

I would suggest going ahead and rooting and Bump'ng your device and installing a pre-rooted, updated custom rom afterwards. You are on software revision 10a, the first oke released and it was full of bugs like this. As far as I know, the shutdown bug has long since been fixed as there has been multiple updates since 10a.

Thanks for your fast response.
Am I voiding the warranty by doing this?
What if I do it and the shutdown problem persists (is hardware related)?
Thanks again,

I have a 16gb white 20e version, and the shutdown problem is still here when taking pictures with flash o using gps, so I think only possible solution is LG support or selling the phone.

Yes you are. But using the LG flashtool to return to,stock leaves no trace of root and they will take it back under warranty no problem.

HELP! T-Mobile G3 - Can't Upgrade to Lollipop Via OTA or LGMobile Support Tool

Hi everyone! I need some help or guidance here. I think I may know why this is happening but not sure . I'll explain in detail below:
Anyway, so the long awaited Lollipop was apparently released on April 7th for the T-Mobile LG G3. I've been waiting for it for a while just as many other probably have been. Well, none of the updates ever showed up on my phone via OTA or the LGMobile Support Tool.
The only thing I can think of as to why this MIGHT be happening to me (unless nobody else has been able to update yet because T-Mobile delayed the update) is because my IMEI has been reflashed to a Galaxy Note 2. However, I'm not sure that a different IMEI on my phone would prevent it from being updated since the firmware is obviously still a D851 LG firmware...
My phone is NOT rooted. It's all stock by the way.
Anyway, I guess what I need to know is:
1) Has everyone else with the T-Mobile Lg G3 been able to successfully update to Lollipop yet?
2) Will the different IMEI on my phone affect whether or not my phone is detectable as a D851 G3?
Thanks everyone in advance!
Bump. Anybody?
I'm really not sure that IMEI have any effect on the update center , have you tried to do a factory reset ?
another thing I can think of is just root your device and install a stable fast stock rom that uses LP on it ( like cloudy ).

Yeah I'm not sure it does either. I talked to a friend of mine that works at T-Mobile and he said a mismatched IMEI shouldn't make a difference. However, worst case scenario I'll have to manually flash it to Lollipo once the official ROM has been uploaded somewhere on the internet. I haven't tried to do a factory reset. Not positive on this but I think the IMEI is stored in memory that won't change whether it's factory reset or not especially since the original one was wiped and replaced.
I'll try to stick to the stock ROMs on this phone to avoid any issues with the custom stuff. Although, I was never able to successfully tether via WiFi on this phone. It works via USB cable. Still annoying hehe.

There is already a firmware on the forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
I don't know if you can do this guide though since you never rooted your phone, better if you ask there.

Thanks for the link. I don't think the OP has the D851 Lollipo version uploaded. I only saw it for D855. I guess I'll just wait until everyone else gets the official update and flash it manually. From what it sounds like people have been having issues minor issues with Lollipop anyway. Maybe that's why T-Mobile is delaying the OTA updates. Who knows

Not sure which firmware versions I can install on my G4

I wonder if someone nice can help me understand a little better re what version's of firmware I can install on my G4
My G4 is Model LG-H815 I noticed the box has TWN on it so it most likely came from Taiwan (I purchased it on ebay from Kogan) and I am in Australia on Telstra network.
Is mine classed as the international version then?
It came with V10b-TWN-XX installed on it.
After reading another thread I yesterday flashed it using version from Poland 10D H81510.kdz using the KDZ flash LG Flash Tool 2014 method
It is running fine on the above and doing that flash removed the Chinese keyboard and stuff so that was good.
I noticed after checking I am still vulnerable to the Stagefright issue so would like to find a newer rom that has this issue fixed if possible.
I am confused about all the versions of ROM's going around and was hoping someone could give me an overview of the various one and pros and cons against using them on my particular G4.
I dont mind doing a complete reinstall so keeping current data isn't important.
I would also like to root the rom (mainly so I can adjust the DPI) So some help on rooting the latest ROM would also be appreciated.
Thanks for your help.

I don't know for sure, but you could try cyanogenmod, it should have a working installerar that helps you (depends on if they made the installer for your devices)

If your model in the model report is H815, then you are safe to flash the unbranded European kdz. As I have said in other topics, as long as it's not H815T, or H815P or whatever, then it's fine to flash EU kdz on it.

So whats the latest version rom out at the moment I could use and how do I root after flashing it?
Many thanks for your help.

The latest version that I know of is the European Open 10E.
After you flash that one using the kdz flashing method, you can check around for the rooted 10e img and flash it using low effort root method.

OK all done - all working fine..
One small issue one of the apps I use "Netatmo" will no longer install "This item is not compatible with your system" error when trying to install from the G4 or via GooglePlay on PC..
Must be some sort of region thing perhaps?
And I get "Warning current version is not avalible for user ....." error on boot up.
Any idea how to get around that?
Thanks again.
AFAIK no way to get rid of that, but it doesn't affect any usability of the phone, so I just learn to ignore it.

Yes there is a way to get rid of it, as long as you have root. I don't know the specifics but I read it in one of the threads. Just search the error I'm sure you'll find it.

LG G3 d855 problems after flash

Hello. I have d855 android 5.0 . Wanted to install cm 13. and here are my steps:
1. Rooted my 5.0 , flashed TWRP, and flashed CM13 and gapps. There was a problems with dialer after flash, so i downgraded phone into 4.4.2 V10a (using .tot and .dll files) . .
2. Again tried to flash CM13, but process was aborted and phone bricked.
3. Flashed stock 4.4.2 again. Again no luck to write CM .
4. Flashed stock 5.0 v21a using lg flashtool. Again - if i want to flash CM - phone always bricked (error executing updater binary) . And now, even with stock 5.0 my phone data connection do not work (only wifi works)
Please help .... how to reflash my phone and get CM and back data connection??
Just tried flash 4.4.2 again. Flashed successfully, but still any data connection Tried update into 5.0 using phone software updater, but after few updaters it fails (invalid software package).
Today found, that data connection works perfectly if i set GSM/WCDMA . If LTE is selected, there are no data connection at all. Also, can't flash custom rom, phone always stuck at LG logo. Anybody can help so solve my problems?

I want to cite only the first point you described, because it's "abominable"!
Sorry for the harsh tones, but... the dialer issues obviously involved the Cyanogen rom, especially because you're using the first nightlies, often unstable.
Why you accused the official firmware (therefore no more existing since you replaced them) and decided to downgrade?
Then you've to known that important downgrades like Lollilop > KitKat may irreversibly corrupt system partitions like "efs", which make your device losing of IMEI code and mobile data!
Now the only thing you can do is updating your device by settings menu until you reach latest firmware (21A).
Since you've to manually confirm each updates (10A, 10E, 20A etc.), the process will take almost 1-2 hour.
When the update process in definitely completed, you can try to root device, install TWRP and flash latest CM13 nightly.
In case of other issues, try the quite stable CM 12.1, or the stock-based FulmicsRom.
If you continue to have troubles, do a CSE flash of 21A firmware and send your device to warranty.

Surely downgrading the entire firmware to the first release of KitKat broke the radio part of your device.
Probably if you downgraded to latest KitKat firmware (10h maybe, instead of 10a), LTE should works properly.
Have you encountered that connectivity issue even before flashing CM 13 (on official firmware)?

No, after flashing everything was fine. There is a way to reflash radio part without downgrading again ? Because when i spoted that data connection do not working, i downgraded firstly to 10a (no data connection), then i get 10h update - still no data connection. And after 10h update, my phone got another update, but showed that can't update because package is wrong of something. After that i flashed 21A what i have in my phone now.

Probably the mobile data issue was related to CM 13.
But when you downgraded to 10A, the radio part was really damaged.
As I said if you want to downgrade, always preger the "less old" firmware you need.
Like you, I downgraded in past to KitKat, but I never looked for 10A! I directly flashed 10H.
Sorry, but at this point I don't know what you have to do.
When you flashed 21A firmware, have you done a CSE flash instead of a normal one?
If not, do it.
If yes, you have to appeal to warranty without any problem, since your device has official firmware.
