How to set display always on - Moto 360

Download "Swipify" from Play store and install (it is an app launcher that I like better than Wear Mini Launcher).
Swipe it and select "Quick Settings"
Click the first circle, and it will say "Display Always On". Press it again to set to default [emoji106]
Gonna charge tonight and play with it tomorrow. Better bring the battery charger to work, lol

It's nice to have the option to do this, but I was getting a low battery alert about 4 hours in!
-And I had the screen pretty dim...

Sweet, just downloaded it! Pretty cool app all around actually. This is especially great for showing off your watch in public. Thanks!

Do any other apps do this? I had to uninstall it because it was so buggy (left always on even when disabled from their settings, lots of force stops, app unresponsive in their swipe mode, had to uninstall to exit)
(or does anyone know how easy this is to do via the sdk, ill write a little app as I really want thus functionality for parties)

moto
is there any other appa?

You can set for 30 seconds ...using watch maker app...with it and ambient mode on, ..the watch would mostly be on but not cause as much drain as on being always on

That settles it then- I'm getting Watch Maker, lol. Don't need 30 seconds on, but I'd love more than 3!

Ticker

Is it possible to completely uninstall the ticker?
Also, would it be possible to build a Rom without the ticker being included?
Looking for ways to save battery... thanks.

I dont think the ticker would use up much battery, i think the both add up to 1 4in display, and those have good battery life. How long are you getting on a charge?
Sent from my Gewgle fone using XDA App
The ticker is built into everything you do... I can hide the main screen, and everything else for that matter..... But it'll really do no good
Sent from my SCH-I400 using xda premium
Ok, just wondering. I turned every feed off and stopped all ticker-related running services & went from around 280 running ram to 210 - 220 on Task Manager.
So I thought it might be worth a look...
I'm on ec07/ ec07 clean and am getting between 14 - 20 hours from a full charge, depending on my usage... some days it's crazy... thank goodness for smart phones.
I'm usually a pretty heavy user though: Facebook, XDA, Gmail, weather, only 1 Fancy Widget (clock: 4 X 2 size), checking Calendar all the time, on the phone a lot, send lots of texts, listen to music from Music Player through Blue Tooth headset, in/ out of the market a lot, switch launchers a lot...

You're not going to squeeze more than 20 hours out of this bad boy without just leaving it sit all day...
Turn off mobile data when you don't need it. This will double the time between charges at least.

Thats your problem right there. All of these use data heavily. turn data off when not in use.
Turn off bluetooth, turn off wifi, turn off data... turn down screen brightness. and limit your use. that's the best way. as long as your phone is in use the cpu will be under load and will be using power. Same as the screen. No way to prevent energy use that way. Ram doesn't have much to do with it other than the auto syncing apps like facebook, gmail, etc. which will be running even when your phone is idling.
I didn't think it was a problem.
I thought 20+ hours with everything running was good.
I know that turning mobile data off will make it last longer, but I'm not interested in doing that cuz I want to stay connected.
I'm happy with the phone, battery & everything else, but was just trying to squeeze the max life out of it.
To me now, the ticker us basically just extra notifications anyways, so that's why I was asking about it.

So, basically, stop using it for what it was intended?... I'll deal with short battery life rather than do that... I auto-download podcasts, keep up with the socials, and make the occasional phone call... Sure my battery life is horrible, but I'm getting the most out of my device.
And 20 hours is excellent for a smart phone... Just recharge every night.

If you get 20+ hours with all of you say you do, then you are doing something right. If i am on myphone, messing with stuff, changing things, playing, texting, emails, etc my phone is lucky to last half a day, but it is expected as a phone such as ours will use a lot of power by the screen, processer, etc.
I don't quite understand what you are trying to do? get even better battery life, or simply remove the icons from the ticker?
I suppose removing the icons, which i am sure trailblazer can do, as he said, will help save power in the sense of the pixels not illuminating. Our amoled screens use very little power when displaying a black screen by basically turning off each individual pixel, but like he said, the application will still be running in the background, so it is a little pointless. And, lastly, in order to completly remove the ticker we would need to build a rom from source to not include the ticker.

tips how to make battery better?

thanks
1. Turn off ambient mode
2. Set brightness to 1
3. Limit screen on time by disabling notifications on apps you don't really need to view from the watch, and always covering the display to turn off manually when you are done looking at it.

Use a watch face that doesn't have a second hand.

1. Don't use a watch face that didn't come from motorola pre installed. Wait for google to open it up to developers. Right now the way the watch faces work is through apps and that uses more battery.
2. Ambient off
3. Turn off any crazy notifications you get on your phone that you dont care about like twitter

I concur! Installed custom watch with no "seconds hand", ambient mode is ON, 8am to 10pm drains to 30-35%! Standard Minimal watch face with the same options = 10% at the end of day.

haven't tried it...doesnt seem too convincing to me.
Try downloading mini wear launcher. If you swipe left to right twice you can dim the screen to super dim. I use it when i'm in the office so i dont have a super bright screen for no reason.
The only thing that's made a noticeable difference for me has been turning off ambient mode. For the last week I've been wearing the watch for about 17 hours / day. At the end of the day I usually have 25 - 40% left in the tank. Today I decided to try it with ambient mode on. I'm 10 hours in and I'm already at 38%. So it makes a big difference to me. That's still not bad since I'm averaging 6% / hour so I could potentially make it last my normal 17 hours. But it's a bit too close.
Also, I know I can drop it on the charger for 10 minutes and I'll pick up another 10 - 15% or 2 hours of ambient or 3 - 4 of non-ambient time.

I've tried that super dim mode. It seems to be pretty good indoors, but I can't see ANYTHING outside. I wish the auto-brightness was able to use it though so I don't have to manually switch it.
With ambient off, how accurate the watch screen will wake up when you bring your wrist up see the screen?

Autobrightness does use the super dim mode for me. If I'm indoors and there's not a lot of lighting changing the brightness to 1 will usually make my screen brighter.
Even if you use a face with a second hand in facer, just delete the second hand layer and all is good

App that keeps ambient mode always on?

So I found this one app " Swipify" that lets me keep the watch face on full time. I like it but it drains the battery a bit faster then I would like. Also when charging the watch the round charge progress bar does not advance so I have no idea how charged it is until I take it off the dock. So I un-installed it. I am looking for an app that will let me keep the watch in the dimmed "Ambient mode" full time and then when I lift the watch to look at it, have it to the full watch face mode until I set my arm back down.
Anyone make such a add-on app by chance? :fingers-crossed:
Or should I start learning how to code apps?
Any chance they (moto) will update with such features?
Thanks,
-DK
I'm not sure if such an app exists, but I'm just about 100% sure that Motorola will never add this feature. The current 5.1.1 software version was significantly delayed because they were trying to optimize battery life. I think it's a combination of a small battery and an old, power hungry processor that is the main problem.
I find that since upgrading to 5.1.1 I can go the entire day on one charge in ambient mode but I have to leave the watch sitting flat in order to test it. But by the end of the day I still have 25-25% charge left with it running the entire day in Ambient mode as long as I do not get to many notifications during the day which of course I can control those with no problem.

Huh? What's the point of having a watch if the only way you can get it to work is to lie it on the desk and not touch it, oh and to disable notifications, aka the only thing that makes the "watch" something more than juts a watch?

That is why I am looking for an App similar to Swipify to keep the ambient mode on full time. And I only let it lie flat for a day to test the battery life and it makes it through the day with the screen on full time in ambient mode. So I know the watch is capable of doing what I would want it to use it for.
And I said "as long as I don't get too many notifications", I never said I disabled notifications. I still have those on.

Gocha. No need to be defensive, sorry for the misunderstanding.
Still seems like you'd always be on the hairy edge of running out of battery in a real-world scenario. Hell, I'm ambient mode off but tilt-to-wake on, and some long days I barely make it to the end of the day. Never had luck with even the fake ambient mode the Moto provides.

All good, sorry to come off as defensive. :good::highfive:
Been using it with tilt-to-wake turned off and I am finding that by the end of the day I still have plenty of juice left.
With Ambient on and tilt-to wake off I find I have about 35-40% left at the end of a 7am - 11pm day. That is with receiving some email and text notifications (maybe 15-20) during the day.
I know everyone has different uses and ideas of how to use their Moto 360 so everyone's setting are going to be different, but what I am after is a always on "dimmed" or "ambient" mode with the option to turn on tilt to wake so I could test the battery life both ways. I would also like to use my 360 for home automation control and I I know with "Autowear" it is possible but from the little testing I have done so far it would kill my battery way to fast so perhaps on a future SW that will be something I will be doing.
Pausing and starting Netflix or HBOgo or Plex from my 360 is working pretty good for me as a start.
Think I will try and contact the owner of the Swipify app and see what he can do for me......
With the latest update LCA44B, when ambient is on and tilt is off, the screen will stay on all the time. However with ambient on and tilt on, it is same as previous behavior, screen will turn off when you put your arm by your side.

Some newbie questions

Hi All,
Great forum, used it a lot with several devices.
So, I just got my Huawei watch and it is great!!
I do have some questions and tips that it will be great if you could help me with and I couldn't find answers to (sorry if its too long...)
1. Charging - what is the best way to charge it in order keep the battery life? like everyday few mins? everyday to full charge? let it drop until X%?
2. Always on option - is there an option to make it sleep at night? like I like this option very much, but as I don't sleep with it, I think it is better that the screen will be off at night.
in addition, do it harm the screen if always on working all the time?
3. Reset - do you reset the devise occasionally? like in purpose. I mean, on my Samsung S6 i know that once in a while I need to reset it to get a better performance.
3. Steps tracking - I was with the blue moon face and noticed that the steps showed is updated after few seconds, meaning that let's say I walked 50 steps, I stop, look at the watch, see the old steps count and after 2-3 seconds it is "jumped" and updated to the new count. in addition, if I stop, wait this few seconds and look at the watch, the count is ok - is this normal?
4. fitness app - which app to use with it that will sync the best with my phone? I installed Google fit and its not doing the job good. it looks like it count steps from the phone and not the watch, or mixed it together, In addition the distance and calories count is way not true, like it show the distance far low then the true (I updated my height and weight, over the app and on the watch) and the calories far more then it is.
In addition I installed the Huawei wear app and it looks much more accurate, showing the steps as the watch, and separate it to walking and steps, distance is accurate and calories as well. but the app doesn't look so good and looks like it missed a lot of other option.
In addition, I don't understand why the Huawei app on the watch is not showing distance but just steps count.
So, which app do you use? I basically want a nice app that will show my daily usage and if can, that will sync with the heart rate measure that i can take from time to time.
Can I sync it to S-Health that I have? or please recommend for another app.
5. Is there any nice watch face that shows not only the steps count but the distance as well?
6. Any other general recommendations?
I think that's it for now
Thank you very much for your help.

Although the screen should not be harmed if always on is working all the time, at night you can use theater mode to turn your screen off without powering down the watch. The easiest method of going into theater mode is by quickly double pressing the button on the watch. You can also go into the pulldown menu from the main watchface and swipe over to theater mode to do the same thing. This can save some watch battery if you have the watch off the charger all night or if the battery is getting low during the day and you want to squeeze a few more hours out. It is meant for if you're in the movies and don't want the light from the watch screen to distract you or others from the movie. To exit theater mode and turn the screen back on, just single press the button on the watch.
Btw your post may be removed since we aren't supposed to post questions here in the general forum. There is a Q&A forum however where any questions can be asked about the Huawei watch. http://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-watch/general/notice-post-questions-t3367506/page1
Enjoy your watch!

From my experience, it is ok to factory reset your device once every two months or when you feel it has become quite sluggish although you mustn't expect the performance results to be visible right away after the reset. After the reset, all the applications from your phone will be resynced and the Google Play Services will begin to re-download its updates thus resulting in bad battery life and perfomance for that day until it settles down.
Great.
Thanks for helping.
I always charge the watch to 100% and wait until it goes below 10% to charge it.
When I take the watch off my hand I also shut it down and power it on again when I put it on. This gives me about 3 days of using the watch without charging.

If you put your watch on a desk the display will completely turn off after about 10 minutes, even if you chose always on.
If there is no movement detected for a certain period of time, the display will switch off. This can sometimes also happen if you are in a very steady position. My watch turns occasionally off while I'm playing Playstation and holding the controller in the same position.

I noticed that but as inconsistent.
Sometimes it did it exactly as you describe and sometime not. left it on the desk, half an hour and still always on worked.
I don't know the exact algorithm behind it, but I'm pretty confident that the display will switch off sooner or later. I always put my watch on my desk at night and every morning the display is pitch black.

Huawei Fan just got my Mate 20

I just got my mate 20 comeing from a mate 9 and there are a few niggly bugs to iron out.
1. screen brightness keeps reverting to auto
2. notification sound for apps like ebay and amzon not working (i think this was an oreo issue and now a pie issue. could even be app devlopers not optimising apps yet)
3. no random wallpaper option for this phone. dont want to use a third party app.
4. not easy to set custom sound options for individual apps
will list more as i find them
Anyone found any others?
The widgets were frozen once. I needed to change the screen resolution to bring it back to life.
Favorites contacts eratic when sorting, sort will not always stick, but it was the same with previous EMUI on my Mate 9.
For the auto brightness I think AI and energie saver do that on purpose. Got the same.
I got random wallpaper on lock screen.
Really, I love this phone!

I'm finding that my accessibility services keep getting turned off. I turn on services like Lastpass Autofill and Greenify automated hibernation, but they turn themselves off sometime later for no reason.
For the auto brightness reset issue, it always happen to me after a software update, but not at random
I'm also trying to play Drastic DS Emulator with Google Drive cloud sync to backup my saves, but the sync function is broken on this phone. It says nothing needs to be synced, when I upload it sends a 0 Byte file to my drive. EDIT: I think I fixed the problem, my WiFi was too slow. After deleting the data on Drive and reuploading the save file it worked
4 notification option is a lot harder to set due to Android9. My Note9 on Android9 is quite similar.

You can fix the brightness issue with adb removing the power genius application, this also fixed the auto dimming in manual mode. It also fixed an issue with background colour being a little gradient on a few apps.

Non root, the only thing that's missing is the software usage in battery usage, the hardware usage is there. But you can see the app usage from the app settings.
I have noticed that the phone stays in optimised performance, I was having a issue with background on Huawei video and YouTube where after playing a video it was gradiented shades of the colour, this is fixed now. Also Google photos used to take a second to load in but now they load straight up.
I get about 8.5 to 9 hr screen on time that was with YouTube and Facebook which drains the battery a bit.
It's always possible to restore the genie app with a hard reset. The power genie is a supposed to help battery but is more annoying than anything though.

I also noticed small bug in the short weekend I had the device: I have the option to turn on the screen at each notification (because of the pretty small notification LED). On 2 occasions I had the screen turn on with a notification, then turn off briefly and turn back on with a black background and just the digital clock. I have the screensaver deactivated and pressing the unlock button fixes the bug.
I have issues with continuously disconnecting my Xiaomi Amazfit Bip smartwatch. I had LG G6 and never had this kind of issue. I tried to set Auto-launch , Secondary-launch and Run in background options for Mi Fit app on but to no avail. This makes my smartwatch half useless.

I just received my Mate 20 Lite and I'm having the same problem with my Samsung Gear S3 randomly disconnecting from the phone - which is annoying for so many reasons, not least because I am used to the watch unlocking my Galaxy S7.
I'm guessing that the BT is simply timing out to save battery but is there anyone who can confirm this and also is there a way to fix it?
