I'm running Vision X rom and I just tried using SanDisk 32 and 64 GB cards and neither one is being recognized in the phone. Neither my music app (PlayerPro) not ES File Explorer sees the card when I insert it. I have tried formatting the card as FAT32, exFAT and NTFS. Still no luck.
Does any one has any suggestion?

Try this fix, it should work. (it worked for me)

Flash using twrp/cwm recovery.
Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I just tried it and still nothing :'(
I've tried all possible fixes including changing the ROM but still nothing. I'm beginning to think that the card slot itself might be faulty as I've never tried it before. Is it possible to check for that? If so, how? I've already tried two different cards and no luck.
i actually had the EXACT same issue recently. i had to wipe data cache and dalvik 4x, reflash, rewipe 3 more times, then reboot. worked for me. Im running tweaked on my N3. try this, let us know

Tried the above mentioned procedure and reflashed Vision X rom but still no luck. What brand card did you use? I'm using SanDisk Ultra (32 and 64).
I also flashed the zip that Misterjunky mentioned earlier but still the same :crying:
Edit:Just test the card in wife's S3 and it picked up the card instantly. So it is definitely not the card. Either my card read messed up or there is something else wrong.

I'm using a SanDisk ultra 64gb. I actually have my own thread on the topic. May be a slight coding error in rom. Let me guess. Only thing that reads and accesses card is recovery mode?

In setting it does not even see the SD card. It says 'insert SD".
Edit: I just flashed TWRP recovery and it has option for micro SD but when I try to mount it nothing happens either. So I'm leaning towards the fact that the card reader might be toast :'(

Yep, card works perfectly fine in Windows and under two different cameras (with adapter).
I just cleared everything again and flashed Gummy ASOP rom, still no SD card :'(. The last thing to do is to order a new microSD card and try it out but at this point I have little hope of it working.

Final test. Flash back to stock unrooted. Check to see if it reads then. Hopefully, at same time, you can restore 0x0 on Knox. Warranty return if it doesn't read

Some class 4 cards are not recognised. What class is yours?
i dont know...how do i find class f the card..its sandisk card that i bought..i m from india..also initially the card was working fine..after i made the partition this morning it stopped working...also card is mounting in clockwork mod recovery without any errors...so i guess theres no problem with the card..

No Luck For Me
I believe it may just be a hardware issue I am having. But maybe someone can point me out to something helpful.
I put the card in, it is not recognized, by either the phone, or by CWM
With the phone on, and in 'Settings' -> 'SD & Phone Storage', the card does not appear. I slowly pull the card out, and 'Mount SD' & 'Erase SD Card' both go from unavailable (greyed out), to full on available and White for a split second. After that nothing...
It does this with 3 different cards. an 8G Class 4, a 2G Class 10, and a 2G Class 4
I've contacted HTC about it, but who knows when they'll get back to me. Anyone here know of a solution?

It's as if the contacts inside the phone are screwed up. Like I said, when I pull the card out of the phone, while in the settings, it recognizes it on the way out for a split second.
I've been trying for the last half-hour to try to get it right to that point where it flashes the 'mount' to white... but I must just have goofy thumbs, because I can't quite get it...

For the life of me I can't get it to work. I have TWRP version 2.3.3.2, I just installed it straight from Goo Manager (as suggested on TWRP's website today). I have a 64gb Sandisk card, Class 10, exFAT (because I require to record LONG videos that go over the 4gb limit).
TWRP recovery can't see my external SD card, it won't mount it at all.

What gives?

SOLVED!! Just that fast! Thank GOD.
So here's what happened to me - I went to TWRP's website and THEY suggested on their site to install TWRP using Goo Manager because it was the "preferred" method. I obeyed. No dice. TWRP did install and I was able to successfully get the version that was right for my T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 phone, but the only thing that was wrong was that I could not mount my SD card in TWRP recovery.
Right on that same page on TWRP's site where they suggested to use Goo Manager, right on the same page, they had other options for installing TWRP, ODIN being one of them - and I loooove me some ODIN. So I went that route and decided to install TWRP through ODIN on top of the TWRP that I already had.
VOILA! ......as soon as I booted into TWRP I could see that my SD card was mounted PERFECTLY. exFAT, micro sdxc card, SanDisk, Class 10, no issue.
The fact that it's now mounted will permit me to test if I can make a backup straight to the card and restore from it, which is what I wanted to achieve this whole time.
For those that installed TWRP just fine and it SEEMS like it installed just fine and you ARE ABLE to make a successful backup to the internal SD card....that doesn't necessarily mean it was a good install especially if you can't mount your external SD card. Just install it again through ODIN and call it a day.
Cheers, my brethren.

for an exact solution, i formatted everything (phone, internal sd, external sd by following the "go pristine" procedure).
then put the new update zip files to re-install the rom, open the phone in CWM mod.
CWM saw the contents of the ext.sd and i started installing zip file.
CWM was saying that it is installing the zip, however it was doing nothing as there were no further progress of installation.
at that point i figured out that my phone and my new sdhc class 10 ext.sd card are not able to communicate in a healthy way.
card is working in laptop, but has trouble working in the phone. most probably card was corrupted at the first stage while i am buying iti from store.
so i am giving up this.
just fyi.

formatted again in "default" format and tried to re-install rom from ext.sd.
During first attempt, attached screen does not changed for 30 minutes, so i gave up again and force to shut down the phone by pressing down power button for 8 seconds.
I thought the phone will shut down only, but it restared in CWM mode. Then i gave another try and this time phone processed the zip file.
so far no new problems but let you know in case of one.
use that Rom RemICS 1.7

Ya its working i think when i plugged to pc or uninstalled twrp mamager it got fixed somehow my zips are back
I also went to mount section on twrp and checked mount system and that seemed to do the trick mount sd card was already checked maybe that was it
I am running a CM11 port on my 12.2 Tab Pro and I am unable to copy large items to my SD Card usin the stock file manager, or ES File Explorer. I have the SD KitKat Fixer installed but cut and paste operations still fail.
What else can I try?
Does it let you copy small items?
Yes it does.

It does, but larger items fail. Can this be sorted?

It sounds like a formatting error, or a damaged sd. I would try reformat card.

Agreed. KitKat permissions don't affect different file sizes, so it must be something else.
Folks often assume its the KK permissions issue whenever they encounter any SD issues. But in fact, a reformat will usually fix the issue.
Try to reformat by PC/computer, or I've seen folks have success with a 3rd party formatting app on the phone. Oddly, I've seen the native formatting app on some devices seems to be less successful than any of the other methods just mentioned.
EDIT: Forgot what forum section I was in, and started referring to my M8 phone. Last paragraph edited to make more sense.
Thanks for the info guys. This card works faultlessly when plugged into a laptop. Is it still possible that a reformat will work? Also, I assume ntfs is acceptable.

I believe you need a custom kernel with NTFS support for that, you could also try using Paragon, I'm only using exFat or ext4.

I've seen this type of stuff a lot, where the card works on other devices, but not on the Android device in question. So I'd say a reformat is still in order. I've only used exFAT or FAT32, either of which should work fine.

Does exFAT have file size limitation?

Apparently not, but even after I have formatted the card I am still getting failed actions.

Technically, yes. But its 16 EB (for which EB is 1000x GB). So in practical terms, no.

Odd. Try another ROM, or see if its a known issue on CM11?
Or try to format FAT32? Shouldn't make a difference, exFAT is pretty commonplace and compatible with devices these days. But its worth a try.
FAT32 support file sizes up to 4GB. Were you trying to move any files larger than that?

I just 3 files 2*6G, and 1*4.5G (ROM Backups) from my internal to my external SD w/o any issues using cm11. There might be some dead sectors on your SD, you could try skip them by using something like HDD Regenerator.

Just scanned my SD Card with HDD Regenerator, found no bad sectors. I then used diskpart to clean and create a new exfat partition on the card but still no luck. I am still unable to copy big files to the card.

Sorry. I've run out of ideas. Anyway, I just this this new NTFS mount tool for android, it might be good to try if it works for you.
Did anyone manage to solve this issue?, facing same problem with my S4 running CM11.
