May be a dumb question, but any concerned with screen burn-in from charging? Under normal use the screen isn't lit up long enough, but while charging the screen stays lit (dimmed, yes but still lit) and with a static blue ring around the edge. Just seems odd that some kind of daydream mode isn't employed.

The screen is LCD not OLED so burn in isn't an issue.
I had it on the charger for about 2 hours last night and can clearly see the ring and the "moto" and "100%" text, especially on the gray background of the settings menu.

That's my concern. I thought that LCD wasn't impervious just because it wasn't OLED and it is still susceptible to damage.
You can turn the screen off while charging if you just press the button (which is on top while charging).

Strange when I charged yesterday the screen did turn off. It is charging now and the button on top just dims.

I honestly can't figure this thing out, lol
It would appear that the last update keeps the screen on (although dim) while charging. Another change is that putting a turned off watch in the charger turns it on.
Well that solves my question. First charge was off, 2nd and current 3rd charge is staying dim. Thanks!
If you want it off when you charge, go into "Settings-->About" and tap on build number, repeatedly until it displays "You are now a developer". Then go back to "Settings-->Developer Options" and the first option is "Stay awake when charging". You can touch it to toggle between enabled and disabled.

just a heads up (for me anyway) - I wanted to have it ON when charging, so i did the dev mode option. Then i wanted to turn it off, and it seems disabling the option in dev options wont turn it off lol
early release wonkiness i assume

Once we get root we'll be able to change this option in the build.prop file:
Code:
ro.ambient.force_when_docked=true
To turn off the screen while charging:
1. Open the Android Wear app
2. Turn on "Always On" (if it's not already)
3. Wait for the screen on the watch to dim
4. Uncheck "Always On" in the Android App
The screen will turn off until it's taken off the charger, screen is tapped, or button is pushed.

This worked for the LG G Watch as well. But you have to substitute "always on" with "ambient screen" with the update to 4.4w1.

Whoops. Forgot about the verbage difference in the Moto360.
Found this on reddit, looks like it answers my question. Curious to see if they had the screen left fully lit while charging.
http://www.reddit.com/r/moto360/comments/2gir11/charging_screen_image_burnin/
Tasker task I create to toggle the screen off automatically.
I've had it since Monday. Charging every night (~8 hours). Developer mode on, but no settings changed. No burn in. I think it's a defect.

I have a routine to plug in the phone when it's off into the chrager to speed up the chrage time and take a nap :silly:
Now, since the official jelly bean update that I jut recieved, I noticed that the phone stays on after I turn it off and plug it into AC.
It stays on all the charge time until I wake up to see that the phone wasn't turned off. It stays at the same state I 'turned if off' before the chraging.
That's weired because on ICS it didn't happend.
Seems that when you plug the chrager in after the screen turned black (after the shutdown routine of course) it stops shutting down and stay awake like nothing happend.
This thing doesn't happen if I plug the charger in after the phone is "off" for at least 1 minute. But if I plug it in earlier it stays on without a notice.
Anyone noticed this issue? It's annoying. I can't trust my phone to be powered off anymore
P.S: I don't use "Fast boot" option in battery settings menu.
Really? I'm the only one that have this issue? Cause I already unlocked my bootloader, installed custom rom after a full wipe and the issue still present. Please, can someone check if he has the same issue as mine?

Nah dude, not the only one. By "turn off", I assume you mean the screen not shutting down the whole phone.
Easy solution: go to Settings > Power and there should be an option that says something along the lines of "never dim screen when charging." You can de-select this. There is also an option that says dim screen after x mins - you might like to put this on 1 or 2 mins if it isn't already.

Silly me. Didn't notice that option got ticked. Thanks! :good:
1. Go into About found under Settings, click "Build number" 5 times to enable developer mode.
2. Now swipe back into Settings main menu and select Developer Options.
3. Enable Stay awake when charging.
Beware, this doesn't appear to be reversible. Turned it off, screen stays on when charging. Reset the watch, screen stays on. Makes charging much slower.
EDIT: Actually appears to be part of an update, will always stay dimly lit now.

Just found that out myself as well. It's tough when a device is so limited. Not much info out there yet
Wait, its supposed to go off when charging? The damn thing stayed on all night last night for me (first night with it). I thought it was a feature. I took it off several times and it stayed on, even when I pressed the power button. I'd really prefer it not stay on.
I enabled dev options and its not set to stay on. Weird. I'll check again tonight. When i first opened it and did the initial charge it did turn off but I thought maybe since the ambient light sensor saw it was night time it stayed on but goes off during the day. Weird.

I've noticed there's different modes of dim too. Sometimes it's very dim, and at other times it's somewhat dim. Really strange. I turned the watch off and put it on the charger. It automatically turned off, but stayed in a very dim mode compared to how it was when I just put it on the charger without turning it on. I am slightly worried about burn in rather than charging slower. Since I'll be charging overnight.
I wish there was a way to turn it off or at least turn down the brightness, I like my room completely dark.
It is my understanding that the display is supposed to dim, but never shutoff when ambient mode is selected. Is this true? if so, since mine does shutoff, could the fact that I have a screen protector be impacting this?

No it will still shut off after a certain amount of time. It's normal from what I heard.

Also, if you want to turn it off....
There is an Ambient setting in the Android Wear application on your phone/tablet.
If you wait for the watch to dim, and then uncheck the Ambient setting box the screen will turn off.
Good luck!
It has to do with orientation and motion. It dims most of the time but is able to turn off if not in use or held down at your side.

Thanks all. All the reviews online indicate that when ambient screen is enabled, the face would never shutoff, but enter a dimmed state. This clears it up. so the only difference between ambient and ambient mode off is that it would shutoff immedietely instead of entering a dimmed state prior to fully shutting off?

Basically. Ambient mode is on and dimmed quite a bit. Not always. Just a lot.
Ambient mode off basically dims the screen briefly before turning it off completely.
While ambient mode off seems like it would be bad, it's not. The gesture to turn it on is pretty sensitive and responsive. Also, you can just touch the screen or the button to turn it on as well.
?
Anyone know if you can turn off the gesture motion and only turn it on by pushing button. I believe this would save a ton of battery.
Just driving into work this morning the screen turned on 20+ times on a 45min commute.

Yeah just about everyone wants that feature so I would expect it to be included in a future update sometime, it's mentioned on basically every page of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-360/general/battery-life-discussion-t2806528
So i don't know if this is because I just got a replacement device, but I put it on the charger and it's turning the screen off itself without going into the settings. I don't know if this is because it's saying "charge your battery" to update, but I'm not doing anything with ambient settings

Mine came with the new update already on it and did the same thing. Search for how to enable developer mode and there is a toggle there to turn it on or off.
I'm all updated, but the option in developer mode doesn't work for me. I have to manually turn it off in Wear App every night.

Same here.
I would reset your watch and resync it with your phone again. Give that a try.
Yeah, it's gone now have to do the settings again. Fyi, I was happy about this not mad. It must have been asking for the update that made it do this
It appears that enabling developer options somehow disables the screen off while charging option. The strange thing is that although the developer option menu has a toggle for this, it actually does not work.
With the latest S/W rev (4.4W.1) I can turn the screen off in the charger the same way I turn it off on my wrist - placing my palm on the screen momentarily turns it off. (This is with developer options enabled but no changes to the settings.)
Easy Peasy!
Edit: And apparently the result of S/W not operating as designed. My 360 dropped the connection to my phone recently so I restarted it. Since then the screen remains on during charging regardless of what I do.
Can't find another question like this one... so here goes:
Just got a Moto 360 for 149.99 USD and its great so far.
Did that force update to 5.1.1, this one worked for me: https://www.reddit.com/r/moto360/comments/3ahj1l/a_surefire_way_to_force_the_511_update/
Now I look into turning off the screen when its charging, only to run into a very strange issue...
In the developer options, which you can enable using 10 taps on the build number in about, there are two options:
1) stay awake while charging
2) burn-in protection
Burn-in protection will NOT save the check when your restart, so in essence, is useless.
However I found that using stay awake while charging DOES indeed turn off the screen, but here's the catch: you have to set it to ENABLED.
Don't believe I have ever seen a setting on android that required it to be on, to be off...
But hey, it does work, on mine at least.
Also the whole "just hit the button to make the screen go off" ONLY works in Theater Mode! And I personally dont like pushing a button to check the time.
If Theater Mode is off, it will just brighten the screen for around 2 seconds, then dim again.
Here's my question, what does that burn-in protection do anyways? Just pixel shift over time? Why can't it be enabled?
Hope this helps some people!
that setting does nothing for me
the screen stays awake regardless of ENABLED or DISABLED
funny how motorola hasn't fixed this yet
just put watch in "Theater mode" before charging
and it would switch the screen off on charger too

It started on mine, in the dock. Every few minutes everything on the display jumps in size from small to large and vice visa
The staying awake feature is backwards. Crazy
Sent by entanglement.
I restarted mine after setting to enabled, also ambient / theater mode are both off.

Yeah, no. My screen turns off for 10 seconds then just becomes dim black with backlight again.
Is there no damn working solution?!
