Dual boot Instructions(will be updated)
4. "I want to setup dual booting."
A. There are four situations:-
1) Sammy rom now. Want to use aosp as secondary.
2) Sammy rom now. Want to use aosp as primary.
3) Aosp rom now. Want to use sammy as secondary.
4) Aosp rom now. Want to use sammy as primary.
Prerequisites for any setup is
a) Flash latest Shift kernel.
b) Flash latest Extended PhilZ Touch recovery from the OP
c) Atleast 90% battery left.
d) 3 GB free on internal SD.
e) Some spare time
1)Start out with a full wipe of everything including internal sdcard
i) Reboot into recovery
ii) Select "Run Aroma Dual Boot Tool" in Advaced Menu, create system.img of at least 1 GB for Secondary ROM and then exit tool as suggested. Now flash Primary ROM, flash shift kernel. Boot the primary ROM(again TW must be PRIMARY). Reboot to recovery and when boot menu is presented
iii) Reboot into secondary recovery (red on screen navigation buttons)
iv) Flash 2nd ROM
v) Flash Shift kernel again
vi)Choose booting ROM with AROMA boot menu on initial startup
2) Present sammy, setup aosp as primary:-
i) Reboot into recovery
ii) Nandroid backup your current sammy ROM
iii) Select "Run Aroma Dual Boot Tool" in Advaced Menu, create system.img for Samsung stock/stock based ROM and then close it
iv) Reboot into secondary recovery (red on screen navigation buttons)
v) Nandroid restore your sammy ROM as 2nd ROM
vi) Flash Shift kernel again
vii) Reboot into primary recovery
viii) Flash aosp ROM as 1st ROM
ix) Flash Shift kernel again
3) Present aosp, setup sammy as secondary:-
Same as (1), instead of flashing aosp to second, flash sammy to second.
4) Present aosp, setup sammy as primary:-
Same as (2), instead of flashing aosp to first ROM, flash sammy.
NOTE:
-To dual boot Two Aosp or Two Sammy roms, just follow (1) or (2) (depending on which one of them you want as primary/secondary), just flash Sammy instead of aosp or aosp instead of sammy.
5. "What things should I be taking care off while dealing with dual booting?"
A. - Make sure where you are: in primary or secondary recovery.
6. "How to boot into primary rom?"
A. AROMA based boot menu will help you on every boot.
7. "How to boot into secondary rom?"
A. AROMA based boot menu will help you on every boot.
8. "Is kernel partition shared?"
A. Yes. Same kernel boots both roms

FYI this will only work on fully deknoxed tw roms!!! Which right now is my stock NE2 1.2.
If the rom you are using does not want to work there are a few steps you can do (suggest you do this to the zip before flashing)
Remove any apps that say knox (although I am pretty sure all custom versions have this done already)
DO NOT EDIT MY STOCK 1.2!!!
These are the steps I used to get Classic Priest Punch working
/system/app
delete universalmdmclient.apk
/system/priv-app remove klmsagent.apk
/system/lib
remove libknox_encryption.so
/system
delete container (leave containers or add if not there)
then in build.prop
change ro.config.knox=v30 to =0
ro.config.dha_empty_max_knox=0

Downloading now. Thanks

Nice work.... will give this a go!
Thanks,

Do I need the latest philz to flash this or just when using dual boot ?
I am on the stock ne2. I can't get past my lock screen. It just freezes, then turns completely black requiring a battery pull.

Should be only for dual boot. I did not test this as mentioned. @jlmancuso has been doing all that

That is my problem... I cannot even get to that page. When I click on the download link to get to the page you are referring to, it takes me back to latest posts within XDA app. I would need the URL to the download page.

Ok time to back up and try this on chaz classic.

I tried this on Rwilcos stock rom and I was stopped at the Note 2 screen. Just an FYI.

Hey this will not run on chazs or rwilcos roms. Knox is giving this kernel major problems. Every last bit of knox files must be removed from the rom or this kernel wont boot. Hope to have a knox friendly version very soon. Also for aosp roms they must be cm based.

Well it flashes and booted the first time. Then all go nut with constant reboot. Thanks for letting me know. If there are files I can manually remove to use this please let me know. I'm on Chaz Classic stock.
Observation: I don't see option to change voltage, only overclock when it was running.

I cannot get past the note 2 screen with your stock ne2 rom if I flash the kernel any suggestions?

Haven't try that yet but there is another permanent (almost) workaround that problem.
If you can't install apps to sd just flash stock kernel with mobile odin boot to system and flash kernel with custom recovery via mobile odin as well.
You will be able to move apps to sd and install apps to sd till next flash.
Edit: Just successfully downloaded wheres my water. No problems.
Moved couple of apps to sd - no problems.
As usual you can only move apps that have "move to sd" buttom active and not grayed out.
VERY NICE! Thanks Agat and Chris41g.
One question. I read on another post that Chris had said that we could not flash modems. But wasn't sure if he was talking about your last FF18 kernel or something else.
Will this kernel allow flashing modems? I mean it should shouldn't it.
Great work Agat & Chris!!
Thank you!

Not a problem anymore, but thought I'd say.... Flashed with Mobile Odin. Started right back up. Updated Profile and PRL, then got stuck on boot animation; roadrunner on Goodness. Did usual to get into your new recovery, reboot system, very fast startup. No problem for me and running great since, like I said, just feedback. Thanks a ton to you and Chris; everyday, a new phone.

[RANDOM BOOT ANIMATION] [1080P] Lots of Boot Animation Downloads & ROM TOOLBOX

[RANDOM BOOT ANIMATION] [1080P] Lots of Boot Animation Downloads & ROM TOOLBOX
This thread will show you how to do a couple things.
a) Install a custom boot animation.
b) Randomize your boot animation so each time you reboot, you get a different boot animation (only available with pro version of the app I use).
I'll be updating the thread every few days with new animations until I get a pretty good library. If I'm really super motivated, I might accept boot animation requests. Otherwise, all you need is the boot animation factory linked at the bottom of this thread.
REQUIREMENTS:
-You need to be rooted.
-You need an unlocked bootloader (only if AT&T or Verizon).
-You need a kernel that supports custom boot animation (Faux, Ktoonsez, any AOSP kernel - I'm currently using SlimBean 5.6).
-You *might need to have an AOSP ROM. I have not tried stock rooted TouchWiz yet.
Okay, here's how you do custom boot animations!!!
1) Install ROM Toolbox Lite (consider upgrading to the pro version).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wyLDEsImNvbS5qcnVtbXkubGliZXJ0eS50b29sYm94Il0.
*Note, there are other ways to install boot animations, but those methods are not supported in this thread.
2) Copy the boot animation file(s) to your internal or external SD card. It doesn't matter which. Nor does it matter what folder you put them into.
3) Open ROM Toolbox Lite:
4) Close out of the disclaimer:
5) From the main menu, just swipe your finger to scroll to the right:
6) Now you're at the Interface tab. Click on Boot Animations:
7) You can click on "later" to not upgrade. But I do recommend upgrading. This is a VERY cool app:
8) Click "OK" to the disclaimer:
9) From the "Server" tab, you can download boot animations. But you don't want to, because none of them are 1080x1920 and will look "small" on your screen:
10) Instead, swipe to the right so you an view the "Randomize" tab. Read the info if you like:
11) Now swipe to the left to the "Local" tab. And navigate to the folder where you stored your boot animations that you have downloaded from this thread:
INSTALLING A SINGLE BOOT ANIMATION FROM THE FREE VERSION OF ROM TOOLBOX:
1) Single-click on any boot animation you see in this folder:
2) Click on "Install".
3) Reboot phone and on the first (OR SECOND) reboot, you should see your boot animation and it should fill the 1080x1920 screen.
INSTALLING RANDOM BOOT ANIMATIONS IF YOU UPGRADED TO THE PRO VERSION OF ROM TOOLBOX:
1) At the "Randomize" tab, move the sider to the "On" position (top right of screen):
2) Swipe left to the "Local" tab:
3) Single-click a boot animation and select the "Add to randomizer" option (repeat for each boot animation you want):
4) If you're on the free version of ROM Toolbox, you'll be prompted to upgrade. Select either "Unlock boot randomizer" or "ROM Toolbox Pro". The Pro version is more expensive, but it unlocks every option the app has. And there are lots of cool options. Choice is up to you:
5) Since I already paid for the pro version, I installed that:
6) Now click on "open":
7) Go through the steps again and grant Root Permissions when prompted (your Superuser request may be different looking than mine):
8) Ignore the disclaimer:
9) When you finish adding boot animations to the randomizer, your "Randomize" tab will look similar to this. Now you're ready to reboot over and over and over and enjoy all your new boot animations!
Thank you to JaeKar99 for creating or sourcing all the boot animations that I modified to work in 1080x1920 resolution for our Galaxy S4 phones.

I think I mentioned in the OP that you have to reboot a couple times before the new animations start to come up.
Also, you need to make sure that ROM Toolbox has been assigned root authentication privs.
If that still doesn't work, then use ROM Toolbox to manually install ONE boot animation, just to ensure it's functioning properly.
You can do that by going to the randomize tab, then click once on any boot animation in that section, then select "Set as next".
Then reboot and test. For me, it takes two reboots before it takes effect.

Not working for you?
Finally found the solution in a thread by anbech, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897969
Use the CWM_CustomBootanimation_421_Enable.zip. It's for the S3, but works fine on the S4.
Just because the kernel supports it doesn't mean the system does. This flashes the file "bootanimation" to the /system/bin folder. That file is already there, so I made a copy of the existing one before overwriting it with this (just in case).
I'm not using ROM Toolbox, I just copy my animation (bootanimation.zip) to the /system/media folder since I don't change it often, but it should work.
The link above also has a good tutorial on making boot animations.
By the way, I'm using agat's kernel.

I've been trying to figure out how to change from the wicked boot animation and I believe you're correct. On TouchWiz ROM's your bootanimation must be in that format. I am trying to find the nexus boot animation in that format with no luck...if anyone knows where I can find it that would be helpful.

I know wicked rom has the international boot animations in the qmg format and that worked for me.

WARNING: FLASHES RECOVERY W/O ACCESS TO INTERNAL STORAGE! REPACK ROM WITH ANOTHER RECOVERY (boot.img) FIRST!
First xD. About to load with OKJ and blasphemy but I ran without and it's pretty awesome. Only thing is the recovery implemented in this rom because it doesn't have access to internal storage. I repacked the rom with hazedabeast's recovery (in his Revolt build) before flashing and that has worked much better for me...

Open the illusion rom with 7zip and another rom (with a working recovery) in 7zip then copy the boot.img from the 2nd rom into Illusion.
Tested with Blasphemy, OKJ and Crossbreeder. Upon boot the Android keyboard fc's. I'm positive it's the gapps package i used (mignight gapps) so just use a 3rd party keyboard if you like Midnight gapps.

If you've already flashed and are stuck with that recovery just boot back into Illusion and use mobile odin to flash the stock el26cwm from rwilco.

I used TWRP to flash it. I only placed the revolt recovery into Illusion just in case twrp didn't re-inject upon resetting. Try TWRP and wipe EVERYTHING including the dalvik cache.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the kernel should be independent of the recovery. If the kernel you wish to flash just happens to include a custom recovery then sure.

Thanks droidmaster! I'm running 1400/50 -50v across the board pegasusq/cfq @ 182dpi with blasphemy kernel, Operation Killjoy Tweaks, and Crossbreeder. I don't have service so I can't test data and gps but everything is flawless. Includes sms middleware patches for Voice+!
If you get the AOSP keyboard process has stopped working just find the aosp keyboard online and install that...

All other phones are like that except ours, the recovery is packed in the kernel in our devices. So in theory, if I flash a different kernel, then I should get a working recovery. So if I'm correct, your recovery should be working now
Doesn't TWRP have an option to inject recovery after install?
Yes, but its built only for 4.2.x, so no matter what you do, it won't boot. So its best to flash with twrp but don't inject.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Do the newer versions of twrp work with this phone? I'm using 2.6.1 on my nexus with 4.3 Roms.
Well some one has to make it first so it boots with a 4.3 ROM. So yes it does, but just use the built in recovery for now.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I didn't have any problems coming from cm 10.1.3
Wiped system
Installed illusion
Installed blasphemy final 4.3
Installed comadose
Installed gapps
???
Profit
Blasphemy final 4.3 didn't connect to data at all. Couldn't hang up phone calls. Hardware home key wouldn't work.
Blasphemy 4.2 says it connects to data but it doesnt work.
Will say the Gps locked very quickly and was right on. Is cm going to have an account set up similar to Google?

Q: Will this work on my <insert carrier> Galaxy S III?
A: Yes for GSM (T-Mobile, AT&T, Bell, Rogers, etc) it will, but you must flash the proper modem for your model!
Q: What happened to the developer options?!?!?!
A: Settings->More->About device->Smash 'Build number' until it pops up!
Q: Why is WiFi broken?
A: Flash the insecure kernel, or do a FULL WIPE next time!
Q: Why did you name this ROM "Sultan"?
A: Because it's going to be Sultan-like once it starts evolving.

Yeah you should use the computer instead. It's 653 MB. Tapatalk knows how to mess things up! lol

Using the thanks button is always recommended, and preferred over saying it.

I actually quit using Tapatalk a few months back just because of that. I'm on the XDA Premium HD app.
I can't wait to test drive this puppy out though. CM hasn't really panned or for me in 4.3/4.4. I just came back to TW 4.1 for stability & reliability.

Yeah, more people need to make forum apps. Tapatalk is just.... wow. The XDA app is better but it still has it's own shortcomings.
Anyway, this ROM definitely is going to go through a bunch of changes. An Aroma installer will be added later, since it's a pain to make them. I can't wait till more mods are made by various people like loserskater and enewman17. They're awesome at that! Expect a whole lot more in the next coming months/weeks! TW 4.3 has a long way to go!
Downloading this right now! I'll report back tomorrow
