Motorola has confirmed that RAZR will be launched with an unlock-able bootloader..does that mean that it would be easier to port ICS on defy too??or it has no benefit for us, the defy owners??
sadly no... no implication on our development unless our boot loader is unlocked. that means no custom kernel for us.
Just wanted to add that the GSM version, outside the US, will have an unlockable bootloader.
The CDMA/LTE version on Verizon will be locked.
I thought its just one version...capable of GSM+HSDPA+LTE or CDMA
Can you paste the source? Thanks
I NEED TO KNOW~~~
Not even a meaning.
You know why, because DefY is a old phone, like Milestone.
(I'm talking about the DefY non plus. plus maybe get a chance unlock, since it's new)
so if defy+ gets an unlocked bootloader, they can make it work on defy as well, right?? i am not very knowledgeable when it comes to bootloaders and custom kernels...also, does having a locked bootloader affect the chances of running CM9 (whenever it is released) on defy??
I was hoping a reverse would be true since our defy is old and hence can be unlocked wirhout much pressure from the operators.

Some kernel specific features may not work but CM9 most certainly will be supported.

That is not entirely correct.
It's just that Project Cheesecake (search for bootloader related stuff on Moto dev serveres) didn't bring up something useful.
All other attempts to attack the bootloader have been unsuccessful so far.
So samcripp has the support he needs if he asks for it, but AFAIK there are simply no new leads to go after.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Untill we have a .kdz file in our hands we can't say anything for sure. Most probably (and I hope) the firmware shown in the video is only a beta because too many features are missed :crying: we saw how LG is used to manage the updates with the G2, so first of all rolled out a "beta" version in some asian countries, without some features (ART for example)..Then, some weeks later rolled out the final version of the firmware. Anyway we are very close :fingers-crossed:

Thank's very much for the useful details don't worry if you can't share the rom, personally I am not obsessed with having always the latest beta..I suppose that when it's done, LG will start the roll out, and then, here on xda, works will start Only if it's not a problem and if it's possible for you, would be appreciated if you can keep the community informed on what it's added and what it's removed between the various betas, so we can passionately follow LG's progress..if you want to create a discussion, for example, the community would be happy.
Anyway..I think that ART is foundamental for the future, so it's a great news that it's here! :victory:
knock on is a pity, so even knock code would not be there..but it's not as "foundamental" as ART for example, because I think that some talented developer would integrate at least knock on in the kernel (@ak for example, I was thinking to you LOL). The "major" problem would be the knock off, because I suppose that, if the phone doesn't have the knock on, the launcher wouldn't support the gesture to double tap to sleep.
Now it remains to see the other features that LG usually bakes in the roms, as slide aside, Guest mode (it would be REALLY REALLY REALLY useful, at least for me)..hope in good things to come :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

Could you be more specific? Because I can't fully understand the problem I mean.. (correct me if I am wrong):
-We start from an optimus g, with lg bootloader (for the noobs that read, it can be unlocked with freegee)
-if you put the nexus 4 bootloader ( I suppose following something similar to this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2099784 changing the bootloader partition) I think that the phone will load properly only kernels meant for the nexus 4 (and not even all the kernels for nexus 4, according to the OP of the guide), but I'm not sure because I've never changed the bootloader..Supposing that correctly manages even the optimus g kernels (and it's possible), I suppose that the problem now is the recovery, because nobody created a recovery working with kitkat roms from optimus G. For anybody, that doesn't have almost anything for now to work on..it's almost impossible to create it, IMHO..I think we have only to wait for LG's relases, sorry

I think it's necessary because with a new .kdz rom and new android version, usually even the bootloader is replaced by LG with a new version..so the old method at 99% won't work. Of course is worth a try..but I think that loading trough nexus 4 bootloader is the only option to try..even because probably the jelly bean bootloader wouldn't be compatible with kitkat roms..
We only have to wait for a kdz, nothing else..only few weeks and here we go, hoping that someone would be able to unlock (as fast as possible) the kitkat bootloader..

Bootloader isn't unlocked for most variants.
Sprint doesn't even have root yet
Once LG unlocks the bootloaders for all variants we'll be good to go.
The T-Mo shipped unlocked for some reason so that one has a few ROMs and a working TWRP, that's a start.

They aren't going to unlock it for all variants. There will be many variants where the carrier will not allow it, just like HTCDev does. You're dreaming if you expect VZW/AT&T variants will be unlockable via LG.
These type of threads just breed conflict, since you believe there is lack in development...why don’t you take up development and provide to the Community vice creating threads like this...
.
You might learn something and at the same time provide to the XDA Community.

The bootloader is only unlockable to a very few select H815 variant users. Only a specific region or two can unlock their bootloaders, as such, not many devs have been able to work on any ROM's.

Would you please clarify ... I have an H815, bootloader unlocked and rooted. Are you saying that there is a CM for the LG G4 to replace the stock G4 ROM, L5.1 ? Cyanogen don't list H815, nor have I seen any other deodexed lean ROM elsewhere. Thanks in advance.
There is no cm yet. For this, you need devs and root and an unlocked bootloader helps. As all American variants are not unlockable and not rootable in a safe manner, devs would need to get a European h815. The phone has been out for three weeks now, so there was no time for anything like customizing stock or even a whole custom rom. This will take some time and it is not guaranteed to happen at all.

I unlocked my H815 back in May. Quite simple. Key points: a visit to LG support site. There you can make your way to the Developer section and register to receive the bootloader unlock code. LG will try three times to dissuade you but will in the end email you the code. It remains valid for a couple of days and once done the process is "irreversible". Your G4 will always show bootloader ulocked (on the boot screen). In my view that's a good thing and shows that the owner cares. LG say they have listened to customers (a dig at Sammy and i-Sheep) and have started to roll out the unlock code globally. Yours may be listed already, if not it soon will be. It's been a month now so register / monitor the site.
I'll probably still waiting for a dev to produce a lean deodexed ROM for quite a while yet!

The next problem is: driver sources.

No I was completely calm and thought maybe they really don't know.^^ Because when someone seems to wait days and weeks on this he obviously has time and it would be quicker to learn to do it himself.

CM needs to be built from source and no dev that can build one has the H815. Google build cm from source and maybe you or anybody that owns the H815 with patience can build one. Start a new dev thread for help to get one built once you get started.
