How come it's taking awhile for devs to get development going? No AOSP Rom whatsoever unlike the g2.....

With locked bootloader and no 100% working custom recovery is pretty hard, don't you think

Bootloader isn't unlocked for most variants.
Sprint doesn't even have root yet
Once LG unlocks the bootloaders for all variants we'll be good to go.
The T-Mo shipped unlocked for some reason so that one has a few ROMs and a working TWRP, that's a start.

They aren't going to unlock it for all variants. There will be many variants where the carrier will not allow it, just like HTCDev does. You're dreaming if you expect VZW/AT&T variants will be unlockable via LG.
These type of threads just breed conflict, since you believe there is lack in development...why don’t you take up development and provide to the Community vice creating threads like this...
.
You might learn something and at the same time provide to the XDA Community.

Motorola has confirmed that RAZR will be launched with an unlock-able bootloader..does that mean that it would be easier to port ICS on defy too??or it has no benefit for us, the defy owners??
sadly no... no implication on our development unless our boot loader is unlocked. that means no custom kernel for us.
Just wanted to add that the GSM version, outside the US, will have an unlockable bootloader.
The CDMA/LTE version on Verizon will be locked.
I thought its just one version...capable of GSM+HSDPA+LTE or CDMA
Can you paste the source? Thanks
I NEED TO KNOW~~~
Not even a meaning.
You know why, because DefY is a old phone, like Milestone.
(I'm talking about the DefY non plus. plus maybe get a chance unlock, since it's new)
so if defy+ gets an unlocked bootloader, they can make it work on defy as well, right?? i am not very knowledgeable when it comes to bootloaders and custom kernels...also, does having a locked bootloader affect the chances of running CM9 (whenever it is released) on defy??
I was hoping a reverse would be true since our defy is old and hence can be unlocked wirhout much pressure from the operators.

Some kernel specific features may not work but CM9 most certainly will be supported.

That is not entirely correct.
It's just that Project Cheesecake (search for bootloader related stuff on Moto dev serveres) didn't bring up something useful.
All other attempts to attack the bootloader have been unsuccessful so far.
So samcripp has the support he needs if he asks for it, but AFAIK there are simply no new leads to go after.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

What is the reason for the lack of support for device developers LG g3

Bootloader is still locked so no chance CM will arrive shortly
Due to most variants having locked bootloaders. The devs are working on

1. Not the sort of question you ask here. Search.
2. As was said, locked bootloader.
3. Still fairly new device, give it time & wait.
Cheers.
Hey guys. I'm considering getting a VZ LG G4. I read that recently root has been achieved. Does this mean that development on custom roms is now possible and we will be getting some custom roms in the not so distant future? Let me know your thoughts!:fingers-crossed:
We are still stuck with locked bootloaders, so there's no custom recovery (at least for the majority of us). Until that happens, we'll be unlikely to see many.

Yep, that's why I said the majority of us.
With the locked bootloaders but with root is mobile hotspot possible? Based on precedents, what is the likelihood and eta of a bootloader unlock?

Yep, mobile tethering is possible. A few people mentioned it in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/themes-apps/root-list-root-apps-t3165134
Locked bootloader isn't always an issue. Safestrap or another workaround would be great as well
any progress made at all on development of unlock or bootstrap yet?
I saw some time ago we have some donation to unlock bootloader.. Why any developer disnt try to unlock the bootloader its unofficial way like g3 does.

I've got to agree - I bought mine from Value Basket, advertised as an EU version but the IMIE is for a Singapore carrier and because of that I can't unlock the bootloader, hence I'm stuck with a fantastic phone with good, but not brilliant firmware and no way to flash my favourite CFW's.

Easy there! That's not how things work around here. Also, it's not that developers wouldn't try. People worked on it and may still be working on a solution. Maybe, next time you buy a new phone, make sure you don't spend hundreds of dollars on a device you can't unlock or where it's uncertain whether it'll be unlockable or not. After all, you're a "flashaholic".
Shameful post(op)
Well thank to you sir for contributing and not asking for anything.

I feel your frustration, though (misguided), you need to read a bit about unlocking the bootloader for many of the G4 models.
You are not the only one that feels as you do. You certainly do not need to be rude about your frustration, furthermore blaming people on XDA is wrong. XDA users had nothing to do with locking the bootloader.
BTW you are correct there is a donation thread somewhere. Why not learn how to develop and be the one that could do what no other could:good:
There are enough rant threads already out there, no need to keep this afloat.
PS thanks for being a member of XDA and I look forward to your development
I tired to find way to unlock bootloader for H815P

Well if we all had a power to see in to the future.
I got my lg g4 h815t because there was a chance of the boot loader to be unlocked but now it is apparent it is not going to be....thank for draging me up this path by saying It may still happen......

No need to see into the future. You just need to think harder. LG is known for locking down devices. Why bother with the risk of ending up with a locked down device? Besides, I'm not dragging you anywhere. You just like the feeling of being the victim. Get a grip already!

Well see I know that lg lock some device's I have had a few lg device's g3,g4,gflex2 and now just made a MISSILE out of the g4 because sick of being told that there may be a unlocking available for the g4. I all so sick of people saying that the only root for g4 is root injection it would not work for me so now only got my gflex 2. So very soon I will look at the g4 again now knowing what I need to look for.
The way I see it with out boot loader unlocking there is no root for the g4........ok ranting over good night

Well the root works really well, though you have to be using L. Even xposed works with flash fire, so really its not a big deal. If they at least root M I will be even happier.
Of course unlocked bootloader would be ideal but I am happy with root.

Why do you assume I don't know about custom roms? I do know a lot and tried many of them on different devices. Some are great some are buggy.
Truth is LG rom is very stable and with root, exposed, launcher I can get it very close to pure android experience. So root is still very important.
Don't get me wrong, I still want an unlcoked bootloader.
Unlocked bootloader will extend the life of the device.

And biggest problem is not getting unlock after updating and who has unlocked they can't have 4g..... Totally crap No custom roms even my older redmi 2 has many custom roms and I can easily root it
ok so.. you are writing this post here cuz u want...?
They seem to work great on Sprint, given that's the intended carrier for this specific model.. yeah, no options for custom ROMs, but that only sucks for people that want to do that.

While unfortunate, it certainly doesn't make the phone suck. Would I like to be able to load a custom ROM? Yes, but I knew going in that was not likely to be possible.
