Verizon G3 and Mobile Hotspot issue with Windows 8.1 - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So here is my problem and I hope someone can shed some light.
When I turn on the hotspot feature on my G3, my LG Gpad sees it no problem as well as other devices that I have. However, my windows 8.1 computer doesn't see it. My daughter has an iPhone 5s and when she turns her hotspot on my computer sees it and I can connect.
My computer is the Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 11S
The question is, is it the G3, Windows 8.1 or the Lenovo that is causing the problem?

Go into the hotspot settings and make sure you are using channel 1-11. My guess is you are using a higher 5GHz channel, and your Windows 8.1 computer is 2.4GHz only.
EDIT: I looked at your laptop specs, and it is indeed 2.4GHz only.

Thanks for responding... Did what you suggested, changed to 2.4 with channel set to auto, it can now see my hotspot. However, it has a hard time connecting and when it does, it's limited.
Any thoughts?

Settings>more>mobile hotspot>setup. Scroll to frequency and press window.. Choice of 2.4 or 5 ghz

Thanks, figured that part out and changed it, now it finds my hotspot but has a hard time connecting. When it does, is limited connectivity.

Does your phone say that your laptop connected, or does it sit at 0 devices connected? On your laptop, go to the network connections page and view the IP address you're getting. Is it a 169 address?

Can't Connect to Wifi

Hey all,
I searched but couldnt find the same issue for the touch pro 2/ tilt 2, not sure if anyone has any ideas.
So every time I try to connect to ANY wifi, my phone goes through the attempting connect phase and drops the connection then says the connection is unavailable, refreshs the networks and shows the same connection is available.
Does anyone on have any ideas?
Thanks,
JC

[Q] [SOLVED] Wifi tether will not connect windows 7 x64 with atheros

Any one else having issues connecting to atheros wifi on windows 7 x64?
wifi is set to allow ad-hoc
changed ssid
created password
tested on di18 stock dk28 stock viperrom nebula supernova
even stood on my head with left eye closed and a finger in my bum chanting "please work damn it"
using wifi tether for root users from market and barnacle
I got epic on day one and even the sprint app will not connect
I have no hair left to pull out
and google laughs at me when I search for this now
open to any ideas that dont involve spending money
TIA for any help!
*bangs head on wall*
EDIT: drivers are also up to date
EDIT2: Using ATHEROS AR5B91 I am also able to create ad-hoc on laptop connect phone to it and bridge connection to get better range from home wifi.
EDIT3: Sorry to keep editing but I have decided to use viperrom as my daily driver if that helps anyone help me.

have you tried the new Wifi Tether w/ Infustructure mode, v3.0 it works great I am running midnightv2.4 ext4 with no issues. I have a acer win7 x64 lap and it connects, also a IBM L412 connects just fine.

I think your win7 x64 box needs to have a wifi card that supports 802.11n wifi. I have an Intel 5300 card in my system (also win7 x64, current drivers fron Intel's site) and can only connect to my Epic's network when I enable the 802.11n Mode in the network card's properties. Only issue I have is slow, sometime disconnected, VPN sessions, but non-VPN traffic works great.

you are correct, I believe the android tether from the market will broadcast in "n" ad-hoc mode, the wifi w/ Infrastructure will broadcast in "g" mode.
I just wanted to make sure and connected and yes it was broadcasting in "g" mode.
Did you create key code and is that 13 characters vs 10 conventional.

Card has b/g/n support (router is broadcasting in n) I can use my laptop to extend the range of my wifi to phone. Create ad-hoc on lappy, connect with phone, bridge connection works fine like that but thats not wifi tether.

Yes using 13 char code changing ssid and pass was the first thing I did. I even turned off my home wifi and made the phone tether settings (ssid and pass) to same as home network. Laptop tried to connect with stored info but timed out, cleared stored info on lappy and reconnected manually still timed out.

Tab Pro 8.4 connects to wifi on 2.4 and not 5, any way to get it to use 5?

I have a Netgear Knighthawk router and the main network is one name that utilizes both 2.4 and 5 and as long as the connecting device supports it, it should connect on that band.
My Nexus 5 and wife's S4 which are right next to my Tab are connected on the 5 band.
Any ideas on how I can force the Tab Pro to connect mm on 5?
Thanks
I can't remember in detail but I had mine connected to 5ghz but switched to 2.4 a while back.
If your tab can't see the network or is having a prob connecting to it, then enable broadcast if its disabled

Try changing the 5GHz channel your router is using.

I would really like to keep it as one network, I have had it like this since I set it up and have had zero issues. All AC devices connect to 5 and N to 2.4, this is the first time it may be an issue but my wife's S4 connects to 5 with no issues currently.

It seems your tab pro might be defective and not able to connect to 802.11ac, it can only connect to 802.11n which on your routher is running on 2.4GHz.
I had an issue with wifi one, for some reason it wasn't connecting right after some investigations. I enabled ssid broadcast and it worked again. I'm figuri g it was the rom being glitchy.
So try enabling broadcast if its disabled and see it that works

Tested out my Tab by connecting to my guest 5ghz network and tab connected fine. My router let's you combine the main network 2.4 and 5 into one name but guest network must be two separate names for the 2.4 and 5.

Are you sure that your guest network 5Ghz is running with 802.11ac and not A/N mode?
There are some incompatibility with tab pro and some routers.
I'm using tp-link wdr4600, 2.4ghz and 5ghz works fine. A friend, using different router, has the same problem as you, and sometimes the connection drops.

Have you loaded a ROM other than USA? I'll look for the link, or search for posts by me, but i had a similar problem with an S4, and it turned out to be some countries outside US use different frequencies that keep it from connecting at 5ghz. Just needed to change a couple of settings in some files and all was good, or load a USA ROM.
Sent from my SM-T320 using Tapatalk
I haven't loaded any ROMS, running stock version that came with Tab from my US Best Buy purchase and I also did the OTA update.
I haven't checked if my Tab is running on N or AC when connected to my guest 5ghz network, I will have to check that soon. I will also need to find someone who has an AC network and a different router so I can test it out there, but I have a feeling this may be a little difficult for me to do.
Edit: So I checked my router and the 5GHz guest network is automatically set for a/n/ac and there is no option to change it. When viewing my Tab on the connected devices screen I cannot tell if it's connected as n or ac, how can I find this out? Any way to find this out via the Tab?

you can get a app called "network signal info" and install on your tab and other phones. in the app it can tell you what frequency you are connected at.

Tried that app out but all I could see on the statistics was that I was connected to the 5.something Ghz band, this was while I was on my guest 5Ghz specific wifi. I did not see anything about being "N" or "AC". Maybe I am not fully understanding this, but I thought AC was always in the 5Ghz band, is that not correct?

Nexus 5X does not detect home WiFi

Hi
I recently bought my new Nexus 5X, but apparently it does not detect my home WiFi. I tried connecting to my WiFi using Connectify or a hotspot from other mobile; which it detects, but says 'Connected, no internet'. I am able to connect other devices to my home WiFi. I tried doing a factory reset even though its a new phone, put it on airplane mode and back and tried restarting it, but nothing worked. Funny it's able to detect other WiFi's in the building but not mine! Please help!
Try to set your router up to chose lower channels on 5ghz
Skickat från min E5823 via Tapatalk
I disconnected one of my devices connected to Home Wifi and nexus automatically detected it. Sorted!
Thanks @ dondavis007. My router frequency band was 2.4GHz and it had auto channel config(channel number was 13 when I checked). When I fixed it to be 1, my nexus detected the router. Don't know the side effects though!

You must not have the international version as to why It can't pick up CH13.
Only downside to this is if everyone else nearby you is using CH1 you will experience slow wifi due to the channel being crowded, download a wifi analyzing app to your phone or computer and you will be able to see the best CH to use.

WiFi tethering

I might not be in the right area so if someone can point me to it I would appreciate it.
I remember a few years ago my phone the EVO I hadn't root it yet but I wanted to use my phone as a hotspot (at the time I didn't have that feature included in my plan) so j searched the internet and was able to find FoxFi wifi tethering which allowed me to use my mobile data as a hotspot.
I'm faced with that issue now on my Note 10+ and I'm looking for something similar to that so I can use my mobile data as a hotspot for my fire stick. Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried the FoxFi and pdanet in the app store but it doesn't seem to be working

So, for WiFi Direct Hotspot, make sure you have PDANet installed on your computer and right click on the the icon in the system tray and click "Connect to WiFi (your devices name)" and click the WPS button on your phone and you'll be connected in a few seconds. As fas as a device like a smart TV or Fire Stick, at the very top of PDANet on your phone it will say Name: DIRECT-xx-SM-N975U (or something to that effect as it WILL change every time you toggle it on and off) and Password: (upper, lower and numbers) and manually type that into the devices network settings that you are attempting to connect to and it will connect no problem. It's a bit of a pain that you have to redo it every time you toggle it, but, hey, it's free Hotspot. The BT mode on a PC is the same as above except you right click "Connect Bluetooth" and it's noticeably slower but it still functions and USB tether works the fastest in my usage on a PC. Keep in mind that if you don't have the paid version, it will cut you off after about 500MB of throughput and then you have to reconnect. I use my 100GB of Sprint allotted tether for my Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc... and PDANet for my PC gaming needs and it works just fine. Let me know if this helps or you hit any roadblocks!

Here you can see my data usage which reflects to PDANet and my actual tethering usage that Sprint can see. Also, that my phone is currently connected to both my laptop and my desktop and showing my data usage as reported to Android.

Probably bc it's a PS4 and not an Xbox seriously, though, change just the port to 8080. If anything else, if you have a PC with WiFi you can always try WiFi sharing in Windows 10. Lmk what other pieces of equipment you have. I'm generally pretty good at figuring out a solution to this kind of thing.
