[Q] Have you ever managed to get Background Defocus working? - Sony Xperia M

Well, Sony have the Background Defocus available in almost any Xperia device running at least Android 4.3 but unfortunately I never got it working in my Xperia M dual. However, as far as I searched, there's mixed results, some say Background Defocus works perfectly fine while others say it doesn't work at all.
So my question is, have you ever managed to get Background Defocus app working in Xperia M single/dual? If yes, where you got your app and how did you make it work? I'm asking that because I tried everything I could yesterday but the result was always "Couldn't defocus background"...

To tell you the truth, most of the time, Background Defocus doesn't work. But there was this one time that I got it working. You just have to set the camera correctly and the distance is also important.
I got the Background Defocus in Google Play Store.

Actually it never worked with me... I spent around 4 hours trying to get it working, took around 200 photos in different angles and distances, with different objects and in good light conditions and the app always gave me "Couldn't defocus background". I thought I could be missing something, so I opened this thread before giving up...
Other possibility I'm thinking now is that our camera software may be buggy, for example, my mother have a Lumia 620 and that phone have almost identical specs of Xperia M (the only difference obviously being the OS and the RAM amount -- I ever read somewhere that the camera modules from Xperia M and Lumia 620 may be identical, just in a different packaging) and the background defocus app from Lumia (Nokia Refocus I think) always works, so our camera module certainly is capable of doing that, but it just doesn't work
Another strange thing is that I also read complains from Xperia SP users which have a way better camera than Xperia M (Xperia SP has 8MP camera with Exmor RS for mobile) and they apparently can't get Background Defocus working too...

Working smoothly on my C2005
Got this here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2649143
NOTE: you need steady hand and good light condition

Well, I gave up, tested various versions of Background Defocus app and took around 800 pictures until now and it failed to defocus the background in all photos, no matter how good the light was or the distance between the camera and the object, 0% success rate here...

Remapping Camera Pixels? Camera Modding?

Hi everyone, recently i noticed that when recording video there is a white stuck pixel in the viewfinder that shows up on indoor or low light conditions...also shows on the camera ( i am not talking about the red or blue hot pixels that show up when you cover the lens completely) and the interesting thing is that when i snap a picture it wont show up but if i record a video its there, after some testing i found out that it dissapears if i enable image stabilizer witch is very strange..and it leads me to beleive that this can be fixed by software update, i have tested many Arcs and read many forums and it seems every single one has this to some extend, some worse some better but all do. Now i know that Droid X users had this problem a while ago and it was fixed with an software update, also i know that even some of the most expensive cameras have this as well and it is fixed by pixel remapping so my question is this: does anyone have any knowledge of modding the camera driver on the Arc and is it possible to somehow fix this? Other than contacting SE about the issue since this will take forever until they do anything about it (develop a software fix etc.)
Anyone? Any info about modding the camera will be helpfull. Few more things i found is that if i enable sport scenes the white blinking pixel is gone both on cam and video and will show again if i max the exposure...

[Q] Is there anyway to port Xperia Arc default camera apps to our PLAY?

As the Xperia Arc and Play has a lot of similarity in terms of the software, firmware version, is it possible to port the fantastic user friendly Arc defaults camera apps to PLAY?
Our PLAY camera is not worse than any other 5.1MP camera as I have tried it out few days. However, the UI is quite awkward...

Ofcourse it's possible. As you may have noticed we seem to have a shortage of developers for the xplay maybe when doomlord gets his play he MAY look into it
Thanks for your reply, I found PLAY is a bit unique from Arc and Neo. Not sure if it is a good thing. Fortunately it now updated with the HD video recording which make it more fun for the camera.

totaly agreed need to be ported only zhdzu can do it
May I know what or who is zhdzu?
I personally like the default camera app, and there are a few panorama apps in the market, I know they arn't as good as Sony's but whatever if you want a proper 360 view just record it.
What is so special about the Arc's camera anyway?

Its not very special, but its kind of bot fair as the Xperia series should all share the same camera apps that design by the Sony Ericsson. But as you can see, only Play is using the default camera apps that comes with the Android gingerbread...
Why Play does not deserve to get the better SE camera apps? Since it is the Playstation Phone Flagship of the company and its camera spec is fully compatible with the Arc's camera app.
Hi,
Does anybody knows if Doom is working on porting the ARC camera app to PLAY, I know he just got his newly Xperia PLAY, so I'm excited about what he will be able to create for ous phones.
Sorry for grave digging but has anyone made progress with this? I HATE the gingerbread camera app, it's quite unresponsive (compared to iPhones) and would love to try out one made by SE

Nobody knows anything?

Xperia Arc LT15i Photography Setup.

As I'm big photography fan, I use my Xperia Arc to take photos. Photos are very live and colors are very vivid, but I have some problems with camera, I have focus problems while taking video, when I press cam button it wont focus that minute it needs some time, about 10 secs to re-focus, as for Auto focus as for Face Detection in any scene mode. In additon I'm looking for BURST mode, because I managed to take photos of lightnings with my C905 and this phone has very slow camera, I'd ask to improve the driver somehow. And anyone would edit camera driver so we could change the iso and other options it would be great. Please suggest anything , maybe application or something. Thanks in advance.!
You may use this app, it's just like BestPic..
Pick Pic Camera
Arc or any android phone doesn't have camdrivers like that of C905.. If manual controls were possible, we would have seen it by now.
Check out this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flavionet.android.camera.pro . It's paid, but you can adjust ISO, custom exposure, save in PNG and some more. Don't know if some options work, but I tried it with longer exposure (10 secs, under very bad light) and while I got a black photo with stock camera, this got me something a bit better. But there is a lot of color loss with custom exposure (the pics turn out pinkish on the places where there's light).

Which application did you use eventually and you are able to take better looking photos?
I use Camera360 Ultimate - quite often, it takes full resolution photo, not HD or Full HD that's one of the reasons I use it.
you can also use lgcamera (not LG related). there is a thread in the app section
^^ +1 to that! Though I use it mainly for some custom video bitrate settings

Post a photo here taken from camera

Hi guyz,
Sony has packed some awesome features and hardware in this mid-range phone.
Post cool photo taken from Xperia M camera.
And if you like someone's photo then give him thanks by pressing thanks button!
Ok, mayby features are rich like for phone of that class but camera is ****ty.
It's oversatureted with blue color, not only on build in display.
And Focus/Auto Focus is worst in this phone than with any other i have. And the video recording is horiible, zero, ZERO details, video is blurr.
If we talk about camera in low class then Yes, its good.
If we talk about it in any term then its
I'll post an example of the oversaturated blue. My ceiling is painted white not blue. Even the LED lights up blue when I view it.

I agree, if a normal user who bought Xperia M and uses the stock camera app to take a picture, they are going to get a really bad picture... The AF isn't better until you use a third party camera app.I prefer ProCapture for that... But even then , low light picture are still bad..

Third Party Camera Apps for Z5C

The general consensus for this phone seems to be that it sports top-of-the-range photographic hardware but is sadly let down by poor software support and Sony's aggressive noise-reduction algorithms. As this is a software issue, it may be possible that enhanced image quality could be obtained using third party apps. So far I have noticed some differences between apps and thought we could maintain a list of some of the best here:
- Camera FV-5 Supports 23MP but seems a little unstable on the Z5C with FC issues on some camera features
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flavionet.android.camera.pro&hl=en_GB
- A Better Camera: 23MP support plus "DRO - Dynamic Range optimization"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.almalence.opencam
- HTC Camera: 23 MP support
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/htc-co...-camera-new-8-10-748210-android-apk-download/
- ICS+ 1.7: full resolution supported
https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&s...Ts4WT4m0RHMx-2a1Q&sig2=A-U3oWedOs0SxvoUmzIwHg
- Cyanogenmod camera: Third party supporting full resolution on Z5 Compact. Slightly buggy on our phones but shows that it can be done! *edit - not working on MM
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/cyanog...a-2-0-005-04864afef4-00-android-apk-download/
- Camera Super Pixel: Takes burst photos can combines them into higher than native resolutions composites. On the Z5C camera it can achieve 32MP rear camera and 20 MP front camera!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...9mp-camera-t3322562/post65509846#post65509846
Please post any apps you find with enhanced functionality over Xperia stock
Here is my test of the Super Pixel Camera - definite improvement over stock front camera, although still getting thrashed by Sony post-edits:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByO19bEKY9TKZ2tWSTY1SzV3M1k
(5MP Stock Xxperia camera on the right, 20MP Super Pixel Camera on the left)
Sorry about the horrible "selphy" photo but the difference was most noticeable on the rear camera!
looks good, but i cant install the app from the market.

The apk is attached in the Op of that thread.
BTW this app makes way better photos. But really only flattens the image, doesn't really get higher detail. I'll take it over my textured and fuzzy stock camera though!
Hi, I'm one of the developers of the app. New version is compatible with Sony Xperia Z5:
Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anforapps.camerasuperpixel
Thanks for all the feedback!
What's new:
0.9.2
Fixed autofocus issue (better focused rear camera pics)
Compatible with OnePlus 2
Compatible with Sony Xperia Z5
google play says "not supported"
Yeah same for me - sideloading the apk works fine but can't get it from the market on Z5C

Hi, thanks for testing. Not sure why it is not available on your devices, maybe some problem on Google Play.
I have attached is a screenshot of the Sony devices supported on my Google Play Developer Console, maybe some model is missing...

Thanks for the info. Some users reported that "Camera Super Pixel" app does not start correctly after the Android 6.0 update on Sony Xperia Z5. We are working to find the problem as soon as possible.

Balls, cheers for the heads up - I'll change the OP
I'm currently playing with open camera with API 2.0. So far it works but i haven't really compared to stock yet. I have noticed the camera button, the first press for focus causes a never ending focus loop... But tapping the screen works fine.
I had used "A Better Camera" with my previous phone for a while. It can perform "Dynamic Range Optimization" automatically after each photo is taken. The night mode is pretty good as well.
Ofcourse the issue is that Sony has not provided a FULL camera2 api implementation so you are limited. I sometimes still use ABC, when I'm taking a still, however it is quite slow compared to the native app with just starting and taking photos.
I use Cameringo+. I guess it was the best I've used with Z1 Compact and it kinda stayed with me. Truth is that the Z5 Compact camera is much much better. So I don't think I need live filters anymore.

So Is there way to remove the blocking of full camera resolution on z5c for 3th party apps?
