The title says it all. I have read it has the hardware to support it but no its not enabled... I wanted to see if I could get some confirmation one way or another. If I don't get a response I will attempt to let the tmo people drag my bike into the store to try the sensors.

short answer is a protocol that allows devices to communicate. Many newer phones have it and almost all modern fitness logging tools support it.
Hardware: Yes.
Functionality turned on: No.

Still doesn't allow payments via "tapping your phone" with NFC. Just lets you send money to people who have a email address and a bank account linked to it, it's basically PayPal.

How bout you take out your debit card or cash and pay like a normal person. I would never trust my bank info to a cell phone app.

Anyone that buys something off of the play store already puts that info on their phone to be fair.

That solves it. I've never bought anything from the store to be honest. Well I did have to enter it in when I bought my nexus 4 last year. BTW I wasn't trying to be harsh. I've just seen threads with frustrated people asking why g wallet doesn't work on their device. Even when I had it on my gnex i used it a few times. When I had it on my n 4 I never used it. I think I tried at at almost every place to see if I could get used to it. Most retailers don't even have that activated at their pos system. I found it faster to pull out my card.

I'm holding out hope that this will make nfc work any skeptics go read latest info for Google wallet in play store all you haters and paranoid im not putting my credit card on internet lol
You sound like my dad
That's what credit cards are for purchasing things and not being liable of you didn't make transaction lol.
Sorry for being optimistic.
We will know more by end of week
Read this and tell me what you get from it. Maybe our device won't be one of them but what I read and posted earlier today said all phones android 2.3 and higher.
I just dont see why they would do this just so we can send money to people in gmail ? And it says nfc
Nfc would have nothing to do with sending money to people threw email.
Who knows just something I'll keep my eye on ans thought you all might want to also. No one is forcing you to use it

Well there's a reason they don't let you use it if you're rooted. Security issues.

After reading a few posts I went to the store to check out some more info and it let me install. This wasn't the case this morning, I just did a clean Rom flash and looked for ****s and giggles and at that time it said not compatible.
I'm at home, so won't be able to test much in store till tomorrow.

Yea after running threw the app I see nothing about nfc.
Here's hoping a secure SIM will open up nfc. Not gonna hold my breath...

Just got excited when I saw it worked on my phone I thought it had to do with me running the new at&t leaked rom. But like others said don't see tap to pay anywhere like my brothers htc one sprint

Hmm the app installs fine on mine per the article link above. Went to Play Store directly without some mod app. Haven't tried to use it to pay. Oh the article said NFC payment still requires a supported phone to do so. Not sure about the One.

I think it's been mentioned our phone doesn't have a secure element. Wed have to go with a secure Sim card and who knows if that'll work other than with isis payment systems.

This new wallet is not the NFC payment version. It is basically to get access to send/receive money via Google Wallet

Not entirely true. It includes the NFC payment part, it's just not available for our phones.

And any ideas welcome the more brainstorming the better

Hey, guys. I just received my M8 today. Love it. I unlocked the bootloader (AT&T) and rooted it. The only thing I'm missing is tether. I don't have a tether plan. After freezing the tether check process with Titanium Backup, I have tried Estrong and a wifi tether widget. Nothing seems to make it work. Toggling it on in the settings just causes nothing to happen (it never even switches to on).
As it stands, I can't get it to work. Anyone know of a fix? Seems like last year we had to flash a modified apk on the M7.
Thanks!
I had tethering on my plan and paid the extra $$ per month. Recently, I changed my plan to the new family share 10gb. Saved me about $40/mo and tethering is included, along with unlimited talk and text. Maybe that might be another option...

Ahhhhh.....sorry. Wish I had some more ideas to help.
Yah, it seems like modified apk is the way to go. I was looking into this last week, but it turns out that the system partition is still locked on Verizon even though we have root. Are you able to modify system files on other variants of the m8?

You can through recovery - you can copy the file over or make a symbolic link into a modifiable partition
I can test it, what should be modified to enable tethering?

Hmm... Good to know. I don't have anything yet, but maybe Thursday or this weekend. I've got a ton of schoolwork due on Wednesday.
Btw, can you run the tethering app and get a logcat from it? Thx

Could you please post the proper file name and vendor name. I tried several that have parts of the name you posted BUT they did not work on the T-Mobile HTC ONE M8.
Thanks in advance.

Not sure why HTC didn't add such functionality, but this device still certainly has more to come.

Hi,
Has HTC said anything about how much it costs for them to replace the m8's battery?
I have no intention of doing this myself, but I'd like to know that my phone can last longer that 2 years.
What about for the m7? I can't find anything about a battery replacement service online nor the cost.
If it's $99 I can accept it, but anything more would not make much financial sense.
Apple charges $79, for what it's worth.
You could use your phone to call HTC and ask.

I trust XDA and people who have gone through the actual process more than HTC (or any other reps) b/c they usually can't answer my question, no matter how simple.

Not to poke holes in your logic but this phone hasn't been out long enough for anyone to have gone through the process of paying to replace their battery...

My old HTC One S still holds a charge. It's an original launch day device from tmobile, with the original battery.
My dad was using it and would get almost a week on a battery.
He's using my m7 now.
So I wouldn't really worry about it that much.

+1 What he says
There are no listing at the moment as the product is so new. Plus the phone is sealed so the normal outlets other than HTC are unlikely to stock as it is classed as a service item - in other words, for the majority it would involve a return to store. (As you say - 'I have no intention of doing this myself',')
Remember if someone has had problems this early on with the battery, they would have gone for a replacement phone (I know I would have!)
- No doubt at some point somebody will release one. but for now, your best port of call is HTC direct
Like he said^^^^^^^^^^^^
