Ive just picked up one of these tablets and managed to root it and install custom revcovery.
To be honest I think there are zero custom ROM for this device and the supposed Lollipop ROM on those spam sites are bound to be a load of virus. I have seem three or four such 3 part download sites all of which are hidden behind a survey. All the comments on the sites are exactly the same but are posted by different people depending what site you look at which indicates they can't be trusted.
I have tweeted Lenovo to see if they plan a Lollipop update but no reply yet.
I think we need to either need to learn how to port or find a dev that can do it

Really nice to see your response, would you be kind enough to inbox me with your custom recovery. I really need to even get the stock rom to reflash if you could help. Thanks so much for replying and if we can get someone interested in porting to LP i would happy to contribute.

There isn't a Lollipop ROM yet for A7600f. It is possible to root and get custom recovery installed but as far as I can tell there is no official lollipop update or custom ROM development at all
Legit?

I checked the link and it is for the S8 smartphone which also as model number A7600. If you have that smartphone you test it at your own risk but if you are talking about a rom for A7600F tablet it won't be compatible.
As Lenovo don't seem to be official updating the A7600F tablet im guessing we need a custom rom. Unfortunately I don't think it's that popular a tablet so won't pull in developers and regrettably I'm not skilled enough to even know where to start.

I received the s8 a7600 with android 5.0 - it looks like that OS is just installed by seller, with multiple application that are a huge adware/spam generators. I tried to remove all (root/remove apps), but it destroys a little the functionality (dialer has opacity - not so easy to find what is going on, camera not working at all). But generally works. If anyone has skills - I am sure it can be easy fixed (for example install 3rdparty dialer - but that one from lenovo is pretty fine). But I think I will update phone with stock ROM, but I need to find how to do that safely and be sure I can back to the actual software...

A bit of a necro here ...
Yep, it is a long-winded guide. I wrote everything as best I could just in case.
I'd be surprised if more than 5 people are still looking to root this device. But for those folks, I updated the guide tonight.
I hadn't used the tablet much until this past week, my phone was doing better and I was only using the tablet for streaming videos as a portable TV. However my phone died and I finally got around to re-rooting the tablet (I has lost root after applying an OTA update about a year ago).
And no, there are not any custom ROMs ... no Lollipop ... no Marshmallow ... never Nougat ... for this tablet. This guide is PURELY for getting root on 4.4.
That said, here is the short version ... this MAY work on a never-rooted A10 A7600F ... it may only work to REFRESH the root. I have no good way of knowing as there isn't a chance in hell I'm going to revert everything to stock to find out
Glad to know at least 10 people got help from the guide.
UPDATE 9/22/2016:
Revised Steps are simple:
* Download Kingo Root (not King Root, that failed) APK version for Android.
* Run Kingo Root.
* If it fails, reboot, and try again (mine failed the first time)
* Assuming Kingo Root worked the second time (if not, see the original detailed steps below) ... DON'T REBOOT yet (when I did this, the root disappeared, so I had to run Kingo Root a 3rd time)
* Install a Root Checker and verify root access
* Install (first time) or uninstall and re-install (updating is fine if yours was out of date) SuperSU by Chainfire (other SuperSU may or may not work, Chainfire worked for me)
REBOOT
* Re-run Root Checker to verify root access (don't run Kingo Root before this) ... it should be using SuperSU to grant root, NOT Kingo
* If rooted, uninstall Kingo Root
* REBOOT
* Re-run Root Checker to make sure SuperSU continued to work after removing Kingo Root.

There are multiple "A7600" devices out there. This is specifically for the A7600F, aka the A10. Different device, ROMs not compatible with other A7600 devices. Lenovo can burn in hell both for their lack of updates as well as their naming conventions.
Hi all,
I have ported a CM13 ROM to this device to bring us to Android 6.0.1. if anyone is interested I will start a thread for and provide instructions and a link later today.

Hi all,
Just got my new Note 4. Have not taken any OTA updates so I am on 4.4.4 Android.
Whats next to root, debloat, and install a custom rom? Who's got the best minimalist type rom out right now? From what I've read it doesn't seem like there is much out there for 5.0 - just didn't know what the process was for this earlier version still, and how to make the update nag screen go away, or if there were any distinct advantages/disadvantages to upgrading.
Do you have the retail or developer edition?
Currently the retail edition only has temporary root which goes away after reboot. The devs are currently working on permanent root.
The developer edition has permanent root and has the ability to have custom Roms
I bought a retail version from the Verizon store, I didn't know there were differences actually? This makes me kind of sad now.
No known root method even for the older un OTA updated setup? Thats very unfortunate...
There is is a root method for the 4.4.4 kitkat. It's just temporary at the moment.
Like I mentioned, the developers are working on making it permanent right now.

Hi everyone, hope you're having an amazing day!
I was wondering if there is a root available for the SM-N910V running 5.0.1. I've looked on google, and there are lots of yes, and no answers. Could someone help clear this up for me?
Thanks!
There is not a root available for the retail edition of the Verizon note 4 on 5.0.1.

Dont search for root, root method is already there for developers edition, so the fact that ROOT IS ALREADY THERE is 100% true.
What you need to search for is either "unlock bootloader" or "rooted firmware" or "rooted kernel" or something else.
Not much so far.
Just make sure when u search google, click search tools and select more recent results. That way u dont end up finding most popular pages that are many many months old.

Actually, requesting root for 5.0.1 in this forum is quite appropriate and very different from unlocked bootloaders, rooted firmware or rooted kernel. In fact, installing a new kernel or rom usually requires an unlocked bootloader and getting that done usually requires a root method first so there's some chance of writing a new recovery. With root, methods such as what is now known as SafeStrap (the result of a technique discovered by Birdman, matured by myself and then claimed by another person who's made a habit of claiming others' work as his own) can allow for quite a bit of customization, but typically not so much as a new kernel, let alone different ROMs.
Right now, the state of the Note 4 is that only the Dev Edition (DE) has much of anything going on. You'll find all sorts of frustrating and unclear information about KingRoot, but it's of almost no use unless you think you can abuse it to search for a more complete and permanent root method, but if you knew how to do such a thing, I doubt you'd be here asking for root If you see ROMs or anything else advanced in this forum that doesn't specify it's only for the DE, assume it is.
I've been around since the days of CupCake (and built WiMo roms previously, along with some of the earliest ROMs and rooting) and based on experience, I'd say that the only chance left seeing root on the retail Note 4 is if another root method (new as of today/2015-12-28) is discovered elsewhere that applies to 5.x/5.0.1 OR the Note 4 sees another OTA and we get really lucky (unlikely).
exactly why am returning it and getting S5. But even with S5 its unclear if towelroot will work or not.
I assume it will if S5 was not updated to 5.0+ but runs older 4.4.4. Is this correct assumption ?
Thanks for informative reply.

Yes but I would do some reading in the Verizon s5 forum because there is a build cutoff for root on the s5. If you're getting a new s5 from Verizon the chances are low you will get one without the latest build at this point

Whatever you do don't take any OTA updates, some are forced so get it rooted asap and then use the pre-rooted lollipop images
I have a nexus 7 (2013) that was bought in 2015. It shipped with 5.0.2 Lollipop. I need to downgrade to Kitkat, and I know what you'll say, either to use nexus root toolkit, or to flash the factory image. Both get me stuck on the google splash screen, does anyone know how to downgrade it? Thanks

Yes, but... the 2015 N7 also shipped with eMMC v5.0 vs v4.5 earlier. The new version requires a kernel update and to use Kitkat you need a custom kernel - perhaps ElementalX?
Thank you, I will try elemental x or franco :cyclops:
Ok, elementalx didn't work, I'm going to try to patch the kernel myself, would anyone like to help?
Okay, so far the progress is not so well, does anyone have a patched kernel for it, or at least know how to apply a .patch file to a kernel.

All you have to do is to change one digit in /drivers/mmc/core/mmc.c
Code:
[U]from[/U]
if (card->ext_csd.rev > 6) {
[U]to[/U]
if (card->ext_csd.rev > 7) {
and follow eg this guide https://source.android.com/source/building-kernels.html
Okay I will try that, thanks
When I start cloning with git it fails, my Internet isn't good enough, is anyone else having this problem?
You're a power user. Can the Huawei Mate 9 Pro keep up? Rate this thread to express how "healthy" the development scene is for the Huawei Mate 9 Pro. A higher rating indicates available root methods, kernels, and custom ROMs.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
This is a weak spot as it's no well known worldwide. Dev's are not too many and custom ROMs or even Official Updates are missing.
Official updates are excellent and fast since android 8 dropped. I usually get security updates the same month they are for. But it's true, no real custom rom development as of yet. Hopefully we get better sw once Project Treble compatible roms are available.
The Phone is good enough. Nothing spectacular. When I got the root sorted by using the Krom root, the phone is stable. I have high hopes and expectations for the resurrection remix ROM via the openkirin project, in my opinion the best ROM out there.

Assuming you have unlocked the bootloader.
You can download Krom from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9-pro/development/kangvip-rom-b354-mate-9-pro-links-t3790605
When you unzip the rom files, you will find Run.bat Run that file and when it's time to install, you get to the install menu, you select option 2 instead of option 1. Your phone will then be rooted and reboot. Enjoy.

Thank you very much for the support. I am still searching for the best way to get root to bypass safetynet. It seems like magisk root is best way to do so. Well I guess I will not be able to root after all since I don't have the bootloader code. I contacted Huawei support, they do not promise anything but there is still a tiny hope.
I know there is options like DC unlocker etc but I didn't get / read any confirmation about that anyone have successfully rooted their mate 9 pro [No EXTERNAL SD double sim version (LON-L29)] with a DC given code.
In this point I don't know what to do. Even if if I somehow manage to get the bootloader code I still need to find proper magisk root method. Mate 9 pro has no good community unfortunately.
I know my next phone is gonna be root friendly device like One Plus 6 or Google phone etc.
I hate not having full control of my own device.

I'm with you on this one.
Owning this device has taught me a few life long lessons:
1. Buy a popular phone, more spare parts, cheaper repair
2. Buy a popular phone, more community support and custom ROMs
3. Buy a popular phone, cheaper, especially second hand, which I personally prefer
4. Buy a popular phone, got an issue? Someone else already solved it
5. ???
6. Profit
